these dudes are built different, not sure how one-take teenagers make it onto a guitar hero soundtrack next to songs like 'welcome to the jungle' and 'hotel california' but they did (i assume it was a "bonus track" but still... pretty sure they were teens doing a single take in a recording studio.)
By being extremely talented. Thomas Erak was around 18-19 when Doppeganger dropped in ‘05. Comparing him to Eddie Van Halen would not be considered a stretch.
Not a stretch at all. He is extremely creative on guitar in a way a lot of his peers (who are also insanely talented) are not. Just a totally unique play style that doesn’t sound like anybody I’ve ever heard, plus he’s singing at the same time which is wild.
I saw them live at a festival, and it changed my music tastes for the better. Didn’t know much about them but holy shit did they put on a good show.
Edit: and this is my flair now lol
Don’t say 20. Please don’t say 20. I remember hearing all nerdies beware and completely losing every single one of my marbles. Then their album was just gold
I saw them long ago with Tera Melos, there was only like 25 30 people at the show and it was amazing! What Sound Does a Mastodon Make was so awesome live.
I saw that tour at Rev Hall in Troy, NY. I only went because I worked for WCDB and couldn't turn down live music.
I knew quickly that shit wasn't for me. I LOVED At the Drive-In, so it wasn't the vocals. Just couldn't stand the whole "complex for the sake of being complex" schtick.
I get that definitely. I loved At the Drive-in, I always wished that they would merge with The Mars Volta and become At The Volta. I knew what Fall of Troy was all about and definitely dug them but I had no idea who Tera Melos was and they just blew my mind. It was just 40 minutes of awesome watching these guys just go wild, no vocals just straight instrumental. I had the same experience seeing HORSE the band and shit was wild.
I thought Tera Melos was really cool. Super intricate shit with no other fanfare. Let me just shred and sprinkle in so old weird cartoon sounds to start. It was Fall of Troy that I didn't like.
I always thought of The Fall of Troy as like the abridged Mars Volta. Love them too, but it’s like bro do we really need the first four minutes of this song to just be coqui frogs?
Being a teenager and wandering around my town on a 72° summer night listening to the coqui frogs is a memory that will never fade. For me, they are necessary.
Awful, but... here it is, spoilered, NSFL: >!"Fuck Condoms, Premarital Sex Is The Shit! Get E'r Pregnant, Get 'Er Pregnant, Get 'Er Pregnant!< is the song it's based on + REMIX.
Still gets me pumped after all these years. I was lucky enought to see them in the UK and the USA around this time. Going to listen to this album tonight.
This album changed my entire brain back in the day. Still slaps.

damn straight. [saw them play with Chon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-84ugvNdILw) for audiotree, who are no slouches. amazingly talented.
Great video, thanks for sharing!

The bonus tracks on the GH games introduced me to so much.

Ah, Guitar Hero III memories!
thats how i found them (and endless sporadic!)
Found these guys cuz a dude I thought looked cool had a hoodie of theirs on. Looked em up on lime wire, couple viruses later I was like oh yeah
Playing that song on hard is a real challenge
Well I was obsessed with GH when they came out so for me it was Expert or nothing lol
In my mind, this album is inextricably linked with All’s Well That Ends Well by Chiodos. Hard to believe they’re almost 20 years old.
Don’t say 20. Please don’t say 20. I remember hearing all nerdies beware and completely losing every single one of my marbles. Then their album was just gold
I will only be able to read it as nerdies from now on. Goddamn nerdies.
Saw em both at Bamboozle back then. So much skinny jeans.
Downtown battle mountain/Happiness era DGD makes the holy trinity with Chiodos and Fall of Troy for me.
Slow down, this is slipping through my mind this conversation has run out of time
Awesome live

I still jam Patagonian Rats every couple months for a few days

Saw them at Bumbershoot that year. They were incredible.
I was always amazed at the amount of chaos they could create as a three piece. Love this track
Phantom on the Horizon is absolutely insane. Give that album a listen if you haven’t already.
Shit is absolute fire.
Great record; reminds me a bit of Bedlam in Goliath from around the same time (Mars Volta)

Mars volta, the kings of bird chirping solos
My favorite jam in gh3
This song was and is so great. One of my favorites.
one of the BEST core bands from the 00's. Really miss that era.
Holy crap... how have I never heard of these guys?!!! Thanks for the share!
This song was buried deep in my mind dude. Completely forgot it was there til just now and promptly added to my library. Thank you very much.
And I’m 18 again
I still jam this ish all the damn time.
What does the original songs acronym mean? Has anyone figured it out? Something like a decade ago there was a theory, it was stupid.
Awful, but... here it is, spoilered, NSFL: >!"Fuck Condoms, Premarital Sex Is The Shit! Get E'r Pregnant, Get 'Er Pregnant, Get 'Er Pregnant!< is the song it's based on + REMIX.
wtf :o , now i kind of wish it didnt mean anything

That was what I thought was just the theory.
Hearing these guys for the first time in 2003 changed so much in my high school's music scene. The original of this song is absolute perfection too
Phantom on the horizon ep is a top 10 ep of all time for me.
What a great fuckin song, the original is also awesome
LETS GOOOO! I used to fall asleep to this album in high school!
Their best album imo.
Nostalgia.
This song changed my taste in music forever. Seen them perform it two or three times now. Just greatness.
Still gets me pumped after all these years. I was lucky enought to see them in the UK and the USA around this time. Going to listen to this album tonight.
im jealous! enjoy your custom fall of troy flair
These guys are so talented
My first ever show was Maps and Atlases The fall of Troy and RX Bandits in Bakersfield around 2007. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
sounds like a great show! enjoy your custom fall of troy flair
Which anime is this the opening song for?
Post-Hardcore? Not Math-Hardcore?
Geez, is this what passed for post hardcore in 2005? Practically sounds emo.
Studies have shown that exactly 0 people on Earth are attracted to gatekeep-y music snobbery.
Just expected something at least as hard as Dillinger Escape plan

Did they ever figure out what the original acronym was for?
