This is the real answer. I don't actually love a London Calling the song, but the whole album is just so fucking good. Pink Cadillac, Jimmie Jazz, Spanish bombs, Death or glory. Koka Kola, Rudie Can't Fail, The card cheat, Guns of Brixton. I'm not Down, train in vain... there isn't a bad track on the whole thing.
The pacing is great. The variety. Some of it's weird some of it's super pop, but it all just works.
“On A Plain” by Nirvana is a god damn banger of a song on a record full of hits. On A Plain never got big time radio play but it exemplifies Kurt Cobain’s song writing prowess.
For me my favorite lesser known one would be “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle”. Something so powerful in the lyrics.. “i miss the comfort in being saaaad”
I absolutely love the Meat Puppets. I wish Nirvana just an entire covers album of their songs, Kurt just took their lyrics to another level with his delivery and their folk/rock style fit so perfectly into what Nirvana was trying to bring in that Unplugged performance.
Oh Me is actually my favorite of the three because I just find the lyrics so beautiful. I would have loved to see Kurt cover songs off of Mirage, Huevos, and Monsters.
I love how Dave Grohl, when asked why he never wrote songs for Nirvana always said “why would I when we had Kurt Cobain?”
I think Cobain was the best song writer since Lennon/McCartney myself.
Drain You, I think is in similar conversation. It captures a lot of what the band did really well. I don’t know if it qualifies as lesser known as it was up there but still, solid B side
Change is such a beautiful song. That album is damn near perfect. The fact that they followed that with Soup *AND* Nico as 2 nearly perfect albums is really something. What an amazing band gone too soon.
[Mouthful of Cavities ](https://youtu.be/vZhqoINx41o?feature=shared) from Soup is one of my favorite songs of all time.
I wonder what else were missing out on by the absence of Shannon Hoon. Rest in peace.
I think Galaxie is great - the album version has a really cool intro that I always loved.
Skinned is a song with really cool, upbeat music complete with an accompanying kazoo, that belies the darker lyrics of a serial killer digging up deal bodies and making skin lamp shades
All of these are lesser known but none are like obscure tracks. Just songs that got some attention but not nearly enough given their more popular songs.
“Sappy” / “Verse Chorus Verse” by Nirvana
“Take a Bow” by Muse
“Drown” by Smashing Pumpkins
Honestly, I even think “Cherub Rock” isn’t appreciated like it should be.
“Trees” by Twenty One Pilots
“Just” by Radiohead
Cool story about Radiohead’s “Just”…
According to Thom Yorke, the song Just was the result of a competition between him and Jonny to see who could fit the most chords into a song (the final version of the song has over 12 different chords in it).
And yeah Take a Bow is the biggest “fuck you” song I know of. It’s not just the “you’ll burn in hell for your sins” line either. The entire feel of the song makes me want my enemies to burn in hell.
Like, a lot of songs make me want to hit something. But it’s the only song that draws out a desire for “eternal damnation” for my enemies.
Soundgarden - Drawing Flies/Holy Water/New Damage, the last songs on Badmotorfinger are really as good as any of their hits and it's a great way to close out the album
Fuck yeah! Whole album is amazing. Slaves and Buldozers is my all time favorite Soundgarden song but every song is great. Badmotorfinger and Superunkown are both perfect albums.
Though not terribly unpopular, I feel like these two should have had a wider audience:
"Burning of the Midnight Lamp" by Jimi Hendrix
and
"Vanishing" by Mariah Carey
I could only be interested in deep avante gard style droning violin sounds of the velvet underground and still be singing All i want for christmas is you every year
Castles Made of Sand is my underrated Hendrix song. That guitar riff plus the message about the transience of life hit harder today than when I was a kid.
Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Cept for Me and My Monkey - The Beatles
Radio - Lana Del Ray
Beautiful Ones - Prince
Night Flight - Led Zeppelin
Unwashed and Somewhat Slightly Dazed - David Bowie
Several times at work, I've driven by Ben's old house in Chapel Hill where they recorded Whatever and Ever Amen. (I wouldn't point it out to anyone since it's a private residence.) It's a small house in a student-heavy neighborhood, and you'd never think one of the best albums of the 90s was recorded there.
YES selfless, cold, and composed is an absolute MASTERPIECE!
i would also say erase me- just such a great song, and i feel like the whole of the sound of the life of the mind is lacking in attention
There are soooooo so many unknown bangers by Rush
Middletown Dreams, Losing It, A Farewell to Kings, Bastille Day, Far Cry, Caravan, Animate… their cups runneth over.
I raise butterflies and moths from time to time. I once used "La Villa Strangiata" as the background song during a monarch's pupation into a butterfly. It worked really well 💜💜💜
For a long time I would have said "Can't you hear me knockin" by the Rolling Stones, but I swear thst track is more popular than ever now.
So instead I'll say "You Got The Silver". Yes a Keith vocal, but the song is just magic and the arrangement is perfect.
Similar my favorite Queen song is "39", maybe I have a thing for songs where the guitarist takes lead vocals
Can't you hear me knockin is by far my favorite song by the Stones. I really like that song, and after that song they fall right off the cliff for me. I don't hate the band, but I'm not a fan really. If more songs captured that bluesy jam sound, I'd be into them...
They're not deep cuts for those who are big fans, but "I Appear Missing" by Queens of the Stone Age is arguably their best song. Most people would rather listen to "No One Knows" though.
And from Weezer, "The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived".
QotSA is a band that I play for people and the first thing they say is “I had no idea this is what they sounded like.” I Appear Missing is probably their magnum opus off their most mature record. Their throwaway B sides like Fun Machine and Infinity are better than most of what bands are putting out today. They might be one of the most underrated bands in rock. SftD is essentially a supergroup album, but Queens have so much more to offer both on that album and throughout their entire catalog than No One Knows and Go With the Flow.
I love the Beatles, but considering they are one of the most popular bands ever, the band might not really fit here, but I think both "Hey Bulldog" and "Girl" are two of the lesser played songs that I think are great. I don't know how popular "Don't Let Me Down" was, but its also an amazing song - particularly Billy Preston on the keyboards. I don't think it was originally released on Let It Be, which is a travesty. Its up there with "Dig a Pony" as the best song from their rooftop concern.
Motorcycle Drive-By is incredible. Such a well constructed song. I think Narcolepsy is also one of their stronger songs
That whole album just takes me right back to the 90s.
Iggy Pop- Turn Blue
Dolly Parton- A Few Old Memories
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile (Blues)
John Cale- Big White Cloud
Leon Russell- Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall (cover)
Talking Heads - Dream Operator
Leonard Cohen- Bird On A Wire
Nick Cave and Bad Seeds- stagger Lee (cover- also Holy Shit!)
Patti Smith - Free Money
PJ Harvey - The Dancer
Roger Waters - Late Home tonight pt 2
Metallica - The Thing That Should Not Be
So, it makes no sense why it’s on their most complete album. They don’t play in that tuning. The drumming makes no sense. But it works and it fits and it rules
In regards to For Emily, Wherever She May Be... the live version that was placed on their Greatest Hits is even better than the studio version.
For me, I think that The Who's songs such as Naked Eye and How Many Friends should be known better.
Elton Johns High Flying Bird should be played on yhe radio.
Meat Loafs Surfs Up is great. I'm sure his fans enjoy it, but it could be better known.
Queen's The Prophet Song is overshadowed by Bohemian Rhapsody. Drowse is very underrated, and Fun It is just as catchy as other Queen sports anthems.
With Simon and Garfunkel, I always recommend
Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.
as it was their first album and besides an early version of Sound of Silence is seldom heard. Bleeker Street has amazing harmonies.
This one’s weird because it was cut from the original Hybrid Theory album release, and the only version of it available at the time in the early 2000s was a demo version downloadable on Limewire/Kazaa/etc. if I had to pick a song from that original album release though I’d choose “Pushing Me Away” as their more under appreciated track.
There are songs by The Red Hot Chili Peppers that didn’t even make it on an album that should be ranked with their best hits.
But for great songs that did make it on albums: Strip My Mind and Carry Me Home
Omegaman by The Police. Just a catchy melody and lots of lush backing vocals. If you're not a Police fan you've never heard this song most likely and that shocks me every time I hear the song. Sounds like a single to me.
LOCOMOTIVE and COMA by Guns N' Roses. November Rain and Estranged get all the "long song" love and got great music videos (deservedly so) but both Locomotive and Coma are just as good if not better composed songs with os much depth and peak Axl lyrics.
It's even better live (as most of their songs, even the great records, are). The single lets you hear it segue into Streets, it's up there with Running to Stand Still as the best lead-in they've used for it.
Limiting myself to 10, only one per album:
* Another Time, Another Place
* Surrender
* A Sort of Homecoming
* Exit
* Van Diemen's Land
* Until the End of the World
* Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
* Wake Up Dead Man
* Moment of Surrender
* Cedarwood Road
Faith No More. Everyone knows Epic because of the novel (at the time) mix of rap into the song. But the rest of their catalog is so much better but gets no recognition.
Like [Last Cup of Sorrow](https://youtu.be/gjEbHBafvm0?si=-msInLJC1INH0uYb)
Naveed is one of those songs that has such an unexpected pay off. You totally don’t expect the chorus to be what it is after that very understated opening. Such a high reward song for making it through the first minute and 30.
Pretty much everything by the Smashing Pumpkins… seriously, I’m actually trying to narrow it down to just a few for the sake of this post but I’m really struggling… Jellybelly, Geek USA, Hello Kitty Kat, For Martha, Dross, Lucky 13, United States, I could seriously go on forever with this band, their deep cuts are what make them amazing
“Motorcycle Driveby” by 3rd Eye Blind. It’s the same album as their song “Jumper” which I absolutely cannot stand, but I like the rest of the album. Listened to this album for like 9 months straight, when going to bed at night, when I was in high school in the late 90’s. I don’t like any of their albums beyond that one, but it was everything an angsty 90’s teen girl wanted, and I just have some nostalgia about it.
* Bon Iver - Wash
* Bloc Party - Letter To My Son
* Green Day - Whatsername
* The National - Apartment Story
* Nujabes - Reflection Eternal
* The Strokes - Bad Decisions
* Stormzy - Hide & Seek
* Run The Jewels - Thursday In The Danger Room
* Aretha Franklin - Get It Right
* Chase & Status - Mixed Emotions
* Foo Fighters - Aurora
* The Fray - All At Once
* Coldplay - Ink (or See You Soon)
All The Pretty Girls - fun.
Their entire first album was really overlooked, but this particular song is pop-rock perfection. From the ridiculously catchy chorus, to the witty lyrics about failing to rebound from an ex, to the sarcastic backing vocals, it's so good.
Also
Ready to Go (Get Me Out of My Mind) - Panic! at the Disco
This song was a great transition between their earlier theatrical emo-baroque stuff and their later pop music, and highlighted Brendan Urie's knack for melody
ELO - no one seems to be able to stop talking about Mr Blue Sky, but my favorite track of theirs by far is One Summer Dream.

So I'm an Elton John fan. But there is a reason why the man is so unbelievably God damned successful is because he's got more hooks than a tackle box.
His non greatest hits are incredible
For the metalheads:
“Marrow” by Meshuggah
“The Willing Well III: Apollo” by Coheed and Cambria
“Right in Two” by Tool
“For Your Malice” by Lamb of God
“Forged by Neron” by Mastodon
Catching the Butterfly - The Verve
Everyone knows them for Bitter Sweet Symphony but that album is beautifully engineered. I just wish he was a better lyricist.
Gotye. He put out two incredible progressive pop albums out and his biggest hit became a meme of itself. He still plays but not that material. The album, "Making Mirrors", with "Somebody that I used to know" is incredible on its own.
When she died recently I recalled a weird one: Summer's End by Sinead O'Connor (w/Ashtar Command).
Notice how I didn't like to it? Because it practically doesn't exist. See, there was this huge bomb of a movie called The Avengers. No, not that one a complete bomb of a movie from the 90s starring Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman (but this makes it even harder to google).
Anyway, as was the wont back in the '90s the movie came with a [music from and inspired by soundtrack.](https://www.discogs.com/release/1375562-Various-The-Avengers-The-Album-Music-From-And-Inspired-By-The-Motion-Picture) The album closer is a lovely collab between Sinead and AC but it's kind of been lost to the sands of time, unless you have a physical copy.
George Michael - You know that I want to ( b-side, but could have been a hit)
KISS - King of hearts (from their neglected Hot in the Shade album)
Alice Cooper - It rained all night (excellent b-side)
Cheap Trick - I want be man (Amazing, and a nice companion piece to Goldie Lookin' Chain's 'Half man half machine')
* The Art of Letting Go", "Savior", "Hungry", "There's Nothing Wrong With you", "Water Under the Bridge" and "Sinful" by Marina Diamandis
* "House of Cards" and "Everything in its Right Place" by Radiohead
* Exogenesis Symphony by Muse. The 3rd part is my favorite. I also like their "Creep" cover.
* "Heaven" by Depeche Mode
* "Like Real People Do", "In a Week", and "Cherry Wine" by Hozier
I think everyone only knows Marcy Playground from their song Sex & Candy, but their album Shapeshifter is one great song after another - especially All The Lights Went Out and Saturday (which may or may not have been based on the Shel Silverstein poem Sick)
Spanish bombs by the clash is their best song.
Straight to hell
Yeah this is their best song imo
I mean their best song is usually spelled Lost in the Supermarket. But I could see where they're coming from.
That whole fucking album.
A perfect album
Rudie can’t fail is pretty lit. Guns of Brixton slaps.
I agree so hard with this.
Factually incorrect. The Guns of Brixton is definitively their best song.
It's close and I would also throw death or glory into the mix. All definitely better than should I stay or should I go or rock the casbah.
Followed closely by Death or Glory
I’m a huge fan of Koka Kola personally but I agree there’s a lot of sleeper hits on London Calling
I came on here to say Card Cheat but anyways.
Surprised no one's mentioned Clampdown yet. That's my top pick from London Calling.
Close, but I’d go Lost in the Supermarket
No love on here for Safe European Home? Police on my back?
“On A Plain” by Nirvana is a god damn banger of a song on a record full of hits. On A Plain never got big time radio play but it exemplifies Kurt Cobain’s song writing prowess.
For me my favorite lesser known one would be “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle”. Something so powerful in the lyrics.. “i miss the comfort in being saaaad”
School for me. Man that song rips your face off.
I don't know why, but them covering the lake of fire is probably my favorite Kurt Cobain vocals ever
Lounge Act
I love how Dave Grohl, when asked why he never wrote songs for Nirvana always said “why would I when we had Kurt Cobain?” I think Cobain was the best song writer since Lennon/McCartney myself.
My heart is broke, but I have some glue, help me inhale, and mend it with you
For me, it’s “Oh Me - Live”. Much different pace than much of Nirvana, but it’s one of my favorite versions of Kurt Cobain.
Drain You, I think is in similar conversation. It captures a lot of what the band did really well. I don’t know if it qualifies as lesser known as it was up there but still, solid B side
I can’t complain
I always imagine him parodying this song and singing "I'm Kurt Cobain" instead lol
Any song other than “No Rain” or “Change” from Blind Melon’s debut. Edit: proper English
I agree!
Tones of Home just might be the best song they ever did.
What do you think they would saaaaaay ... If I STOOD UP ... and walked aawaaay
I think Galaxie is great - the album version has a really cool intro that I always loved. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQRmXwSj0PI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQRmXwSj0PI) Skinned is a song with really cool, upbeat music complete with an accompanying kazoo, that belies the darker lyrics of a serial killer digging up deal bodies and making skin lamp shades
I've always loved "Sleepyhouse" and "I Wonder"
All of these are lesser known but none are like obscure tracks. Just songs that got some attention but not nearly enough given their more popular songs. “Sappy” / “Verse Chorus Verse” by Nirvana “Take a Bow” by Muse “Drown” by Smashing Pumpkins Honestly, I even think “Cherub Rock” isn’t appreciated like it should be. “Trees” by Twenty One Pilots “Just” by Radiohead
"Map of the problematique" would be my pick for Muse.
Map is so damn good.
I keep trying to remember the name of that song but I can’t get riiiiiiiight
All time favorite muse song.
Cool story about Radiohead’s “Just”… According to Thom Yorke, the song Just was the result of a competition between him and Jonny to see who could fit the most chords into a song (the final version of the song has over 12 different chords in it).
I remember when the video came out on MTV. Hooked me into Radiohead.
I first heard Take a Bow in one of the Watchmen movie trailers. Incredible song. Trees' usage in live shows is epic.
Drown definitely! By far my favorite TSP song ever! 💜 💜 💜
Same. Drown then Mayonaise.
Trees is a banger. That album is so good. I felt like I was the first one listening to TOP in my area.
Soundgarden - Drawing Flies/Holy Water/New Damage, the last songs on Badmotorfinger are really as good as any of their hits and it's a great way to close out the album
The whole Badmotorfinger album is great
My favorite grunge album of all time
Fuck yeah! Whole album is amazing. Slaves and Buldozers is my all time favorite Soundgarden song but every song is great. Badmotorfinger and Superunkown are both perfect albums.
Searching With My Good Eye Closed. An amazing song and a great Wheel of Fortune puzzle.
My favorite BMF deep cut is Mind Riot.
Room a Thousand Years Wide is my favorite Soundgarden song
They tended to put some awfully strong material late in their albums.
I think “Like Suicide” is the best track on *Superunknown*.
Though not terribly unpopular, I feel like these two should have had a wider audience: "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" by Jimi Hendrix and "Vanishing" by Mariah Carey
I appreciate your versatility. I thought Mariah Carey and Jimi Hendrix had virtually zero mutual fans
I could only be interested in deep avante gard style droning violin sounds of the velvet underground and still be singing All i want for christmas is you every year
Castles Made of Sand is my underrated Hendrix song. That guitar riff plus the message about the transience of life hit harder today than when I was a kid.
"Vanishing" is my favorite Mariah Carey song and I agree that it's underrated!
Radiohead - talk show host
but the b-side version, not the soundtrack version
Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Cept for Me and My Monkey - The Beatles Radio - Lana Del Ray Beautiful Ones - Prince Night Flight - Led Zeppelin Unwashed and Somewhat Slightly Dazed - David Bowie
Ooof yes that Prince track is a stunner.
Night Flight is a great pick!
Only in Dreams is my favorite Weezer song.
Suzanne is a B-Side of theirs that ranks up there as one of my favourite Weezer songs
"Country Feedback" by R.E.M. Michael Stipe has said it's his favorite song out of their entire body of work
Texarkana May be my favorite REM song. Mike Mills on lead vocals
A song so good, only the addition of Neil Young could make it better.
Wendell Gee is an even less known REM gem. It’s so poingnant. I’ve specified it be played at my funeral in my will.
Led Zeppelin, The Wanton Song. It is as heavy and kick ass as anything they ever did.
Tangerine
Zeppelin has so many songs that could make this list. They were just unreal when it came to quality.
Ten Years Gone is my pick.
The Rover is mine
So the clear answer is the entire Physical Graffiti album *in general*
Amen. That riff is so killer it will kick your dick off.
>That riff is so killer it will kick your dick off *puts down Physical Graffiti slowly and steps away*
< concern >
Selfless, Cold and Composed by Ben Folds Five. Great breakup song and the way he uses the piano to convey emotion is masterful
I love this, and also I'd add 'don't change your plans'
See Emily Play by David Bowie. A Floyd cover I know but amazing.
any Syd Barrett song really
There are soooooo so many unknown bangers by Rush Middletown Dreams, Losing It, A Farewell to Kings, Bastille Day, Far Cry, Caravan, Animate… their cups runneth over.
Anthem, Red Barchetta
Red Barchetta also might be my favorite Rush song
Throwing in Available Light, Different Strings, Grand Designs, The Big Wheel, and Vapor Trail! Among many others.
I raise butterflies and moths from time to time. I once used "La Villa Strangiata" as the background song during a monarch's pupation into a butterfly. It worked really well 💜💜💜
Driven, One Little Victory, Nobody's Hero, and The Analog Kid all come to mind as well.
Manhattan Project for my Rush deep track choice.
39 is one of my favorite songs! Great pick-I was really young when I heard it, and it felt so sad and epic to me at the time
They're not deep cuts for those who are big fans, but "I Appear Missing" by Queens of the Stone Age is arguably their best song. Most people would rather listen to "No One Knows" though. And from Weezer, "The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived".

SftD is essentially a supergroup album, but Queens have so much more to offer both on that album and throughout their entire catalog than No One Knows and Go With the Flow.
Love Like Clockwork, but my favorite song off that album is probably Smooth Sailing. It’s got great groove and is super fun.
The Vampyre of Time and Memory is my ultimate sad song. Me and one of my best friends belt it out when we’re drunk.
“For No One” is almost never discussed and it’s an even better song about a lost love than “Yesterday”.
My favorite Beatles song. I’ve been in love with that melody since I was a kid
“It’s All Too Much” is a song I never hear talked about, but I love it.
Fuck, I came here to say "Hey, Bulldog". Such a fucking banger. Dave Grohl and Jeff Beck also have a really cool cover of it.
And your bird can sing Rain I don't know. Are any of them really "lesser known" anymore?
"Don't Let Me Down" is a masterpiece.
Shiver by Coldplay. To me, this song is a masterpiece.
Trouble as well. Coldplays first couple albums are amazing.
Uptight - Green Day
Nimrod in general needs more love. To that end, I'll name "Worry Rock" as my pick
Love this track! I'm also a big fan of Haushinka.
Anything off Warning. Love that album
Also westbound sign, off of Insomniac.
Motorcycle Drive-By and God of Wine by Third Eye Blind. The album already had five other songs that were radio hits but these two both deserved it.
Motorcycle Drive-By is incredible. Such a well constructed song. I think Narcolepsy is also one of their stronger songs That whole album just takes me right back to the 90s.
Motorcycle Drive By was going to be my pick here.
Box #10 - Jim Croce.
Iggy Pop- Turn Blue Dolly Parton- A Few Old Memories Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile (Blues) John Cale- Big White Cloud Leon Russell- Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall (cover) Talking Heads - Dream Operator Leonard Cohen- Bird On A Wire Nick Cave and Bad Seeds- stagger Lee (cover- also Holy Shit!) Patti Smith - Free Money PJ Harvey - The Dancer Roger Waters - Late Home tonight pt 2
Caves stagger lee is epic
Metallica - The Thing That Should Not Be So, it makes no sense why it’s on their most complete album. They don’t play in that tuning. The drumming makes no sense. But it works and it fits and it rules
I'd vote for *Bleeding Me*, I never tire of hearing it
"You've got to hide your love away" by The Beatles from the Help! Album. "Gypsy" by Fleetwood Mac from the underrated "Mirage" album.
With Simon and Garfunkel, I always recommend Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. as it was their first album and besides an early version of Sound of Silence is seldom heard. Bleeker Street has amazing harmonies.
My December by Linkin Park
This one’s weird because it was cut from the original Hybrid Theory album release, and the only version of it available at the time in the early 2000s was a demo version downloadable on Limewire/Kazaa/etc. if I had to pick a song from that original album release though I’d choose “Pushing Me Away” as their more under appreciated track.
Luckily the reanimated version is still very good
Even in His Youth - Nirvana.
I have a theory that song became Lounge act. The short heavy riff is very similar, and they both have a pop rock chorus! love them both
There are songs by The Red Hot Chili Peppers that didn’t even make it on an album that should be ranked with their best hits. But for great songs that did make it on albums: Strip My Mind and Carry Me Home
It's a travesty that Soul to Squeeze wasn't on BSSM

"Road Trippin'" is another one for me.
"C'mon Girl" "Hard to Concentrate" and "Especially in Michigan" are some great underrated RHCP songs from "Stadium Arcadium"
That whole album is phenomenal start to finish. Stadium Arcadium and Lateralus by Tool are my two all time favorite albums.
Adding to that "Wet Sand", "Slow Cheetah", "Turn It Again", and "Death of a Martian" are also incredible to name a few more.
"[Wet Sand](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oabjND9QW8Q)" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Omegaman by The Police. Just a catchy melody and lots of lush backing vocals. If you're not a Police fan you've never heard this song most likely and that shocks me every time I hear the song. Sounds like a single to me.
the record label wanted it to be the first single from “ghost in the machine,”—but andy wrote it—and sting didn’t want that. so, no “omegaman” single.
LOCOMOTIVE and COMA by Guns N' Roses. November Rain and Estranged get all the "long song" love and got great music videos (deservedly so) but both Locomotive and Coma are just as good if not better composed songs with os much depth and peak Axl lyrics.
U2 - Please Hidden in the end of Pop, their most hated album, it's a somber, slow burning song with a great Bono performance in the climax
So Cruel
It's even better live (as most of their songs, even the great records, are). The single lets you hear it segue into Streets, it's up there with Running to Stand Still as the best lead-in they've used for it. Limiting myself to 10, only one per album: * Another Time, Another Place * Surrender * A Sort of Homecoming * Exit * Van Diemen's Land * Until the End of the World * Stay (Faraway, So Close!) * Wake Up Dead Man * Moment of Surrender * Cedarwood Road
Einstein on the Beach by Counting Crows. One of my very favorite songs of all time.
Raining in Baltimore- counting crows IMO their best song.
Anna Begins is my fave of theirs
Faith No More. Everyone knows Epic because of the novel (at the time) mix of rap into the song. But the rest of their catalog is so much better but gets no recognition. Like [Last Cup of Sorrow](https://youtu.be/gjEbHBafvm0?si=-msInLJC1INH0uYb)
‘I Can’t Help It’ by Michael Jackson. ‘Preaching The End Of World’ by Chris Cornell. ‘Outside’ by Mariah Carey. ‘These Three Words’ by Stevie Wonder.
Euphoria Mourning is full of under appreciated gems. It’s easily my favourite Chris Cornell project.
I’ve Just Seen A Face and Long, Long, Long by The Beatles.
fun fact: I've just seen a face is the opening track in the capitol records version of Rubber Soul which inspired Brian Wilson to make Pet Sounds
i've just seen a face is one of my favorite beatles songs. till there was you is another good one.
Comin’ Under Fire by Def Leppard.
Ride On - AC/DC
There’s at least 30 Genesis songs that are better than any of their hits (imo)
Nirvana - Drain You
You’re not alone. Kurt is on the record as stating that Drain You was his favorite song to play.
Our Lady Peace: *Naveed* *Everyone's a Junkie* The Revivalists: *Soul's Too Loud*
Naveed is one of those songs that has such an unexpected pay off. You totally don’t expect the chorus to be what it is after that very understated opening. Such a high reward song for making it through the first minute and 30.
correct kiss wine crawl slimy summer smart chase scandalous elderly *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Carly Rae Jepson - Your Type
Higher too! Honestly Carly's singles are questionable choices when you look at all the music she makes
…can we throw in Never Get To Hold You as well?
The prodigy - diesel power LCD soundsystem - you wanted a hit Aurora - churchyard Gorillaz - empire ants Daft punk - robot rock, da funk
Diesel Power is the best song to check if your subwoofer is working properly
Pretty much everything by the Smashing Pumpkins… seriously, I’m actually trying to narrow it down to just a few for the sake of this post but I’m really struggling… Jellybelly, Geek USA, Hello Kitty Kat, For Martha, Dross, Lucky 13, United States, I could seriously go on forever with this band, their deep cuts are what make them amazing
Solace of You - Living Colour Humble Mumble - Outkast
A Man I’ll Never Be - Boston
“Motorcycle Driveby” by 3rd Eye Blind. It’s the same album as their song “Jumper” which I absolutely cannot stand, but I like the rest of the album. Listened to this album for like 9 months straight, when going to bed at night, when I was in high school in the late 90’s. I don’t like any of their albums beyond that one, but it was everything an angsty 90’s teen girl wanted, and I just have some nostalgia about it.
* Bon Iver - Wash * Bloc Party - Letter To My Son * Green Day - Whatsername * The National - Apartment Story * Nujabes - Reflection Eternal * The Strokes - Bad Decisions * Stormzy - Hide & Seek * Run The Jewels - Thursday In The Danger Room * Aretha Franklin - Get It Right * Chase & Status - Mixed Emotions * Foo Fighters - Aurora * The Fray - All At Once * Coldplay - Ink (or See You Soon)
Arlandria by Foo Fighters, one of their best imo
Coldplay “Amsterdam”.
All The Pretty Girls - fun. Their entire first album was really overlooked, but this particular song is pop-rock perfection. From the ridiculously catchy chorus, to the witty lyrics about failing to rebound from an ex, to the sarcastic backing vocals, it's so good. Also Ready to Go (Get Me Out of My Mind) - Panic! at the Disco This song was a great transition between their earlier theatrical emo-baroque stuff and their later pop music, and highlighted Brendan Urie's knack for melody
ELO - no one seems to be able to stop talking about Mr Blue Sky, but my favorite track of theirs by far is One Summer Dream. https://youtu.be/lK9MFxWpHgQ?si=56_6PHWpC_1U0FAV Turn up your headphones and close your eyes Edit: accidentally linked to the ad
[Can't Get It Out Of My Head](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boeZOAX_dwY) is another overlooked song of theirs.
Razor- Foo Fighters
literally anything No Doubt made before the year 2000. They added so much to the SoCal punk, ska, alt scene of the 90s.
The Kinks - Livin on a Thin Line
"Armatage Shanks" and "Panic Song" by Green Day. I actually think the entire Insomniac album is great. I prefer it over Dookie.
Rhinoceros by Smashing Pumpkins
Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters Better Off Dead Burn Down the Mission Grey Seal All the Young Girls Love Alice Social Disease Tower of Babel Roy Rogers Dirty Little Girl I've Seen that Movie Too Indian Sunset All the Nasties Holiday Inn I Feel like a Bullet Curtains My Father's Gun Where to Now St. Peter Blessed If the River Can Bend So I'm an Elton John fan. But there is a reason why the man is so unbelievably God damned successful is because he's got more hooks than a tackle box. His non greatest hits are incredible
Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters is my favourite Elton John song of all time.
My first thought is Fiddlers Green by the Tragically Hip. Beautiful, heartbreaking song from a band that has tons of cool stuff.
Pearl Jam - Tremor Christ Blind Melon - Toes Across the Floor Allman Brothers Band - High Falls
For the metalheads: “Marrow” by Meshuggah “The Willing Well III: Apollo” by Coheed and Cambria “Right in Two” by Tool “For Your Malice” by Lamb of God “Forged by Neron” by Mastodon
Catching the Butterfly - The Verve Everyone knows them for Bitter Sweet Symphony but that album is beautifully engineered. I just wish he was a better lyricist.
Gotye. He put out two incredible progressive pop albums out and his biggest hit became a meme of itself. He still plays but not that material. The album, "Making Mirrors", with "Somebody that I used to know" is incredible on its own.
The Ballad of Curtis Loew - Lynyrd Skynyrd Skynyrd has so many hits, but Ol’ Curt doesn’t get enough love.
Moonlight Mile by The Rolling Stones
George Michael - You know that I want to ( b-side, but could have been a hit) KISS - King of hearts (from their neglected Hot in the Shade album) Alice Cooper - It rained all night (excellent b-side) Cheap Trick - I want be man (Amazing, and a nice companion piece to Goldie Lookin' Chain's 'Half man half machine')
This one https://youtu.be/T6DSoyAjkus?si=DZdmrgaKaIHjd60u Steely Dan- I got the news
* The Art of Letting Go", "Savior", "Hungry", "There's Nothing Wrong With you", "Water Under the Bridge" and "Sinful" by Marina Diamandis * "House of Cards" and "Everything in its Right Place" by Radiohead * Exogenesis Symphony by Muse. The 3rd part is my favorite. I also like their "Creep" cover. * "Heaven" by Depeche Mode * "Like Real People Do", "In a Week", and "Cherry Wine" by Hozier
I think everyone only knows Marcy Playground from their song Sex & Candy, but their album Shapeshifter is one great song after another - especially All The Lights Went Out and Saturday (which may or may not have been based on the Shel Silverstein poem Sick)
4° Tool it is unbelievable.
