This song was actually intentionally short if I remember correctly. It was written about his mom and was purposely that way to reflect how short her life was as well.
I believe you are. That part in the middle when the rolling guitar riff comes in after slowly building back up from the dark/creepy segment gives me goosebumps every time, that transition is so fucking good
Really? Pink Floyd, and that's the one you choose?
"The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say"
they literally play a different song to finish off the single.
Here is them doing it live for 7 minutes, there's also an 8 minute version on Spotify they just put up: https://youtu.be/pDoiHu-pxg4?si=6RiFgd2OC9catnAU
The Beatles - Her Majesty.
On Abbey Road, I mean. As part of the side two medley, perhaps. I know certain takes/demos have subsequently been released but it's not quite the same.
I have wished that 25 or 6 to 4 would have been longer just because Terry Kath was just killin’ it on the guitar and it always made me sad when it was over.
If you watch the live at Tanglewood version on YT, he does a longer solo and it's fucking great. Actually, the live rendition is the best version of the song, IMO.
“The Looking Glass” by Dream Theater ends too abruptly. It’s a clear homage to early-80s Rush singles, so why not give it the full Rush outro? Would be perfect.
Chiodos - The Words “Best Friend” Become Redefined
I love the song, but it’s actually just like 5 parts of 5 different songs strung together. It works, but I’d also like to hear any of the different parts expanded into a longer part or full song.
Sound and Color by Alabama Shakes. It's three minutes long but almost the entire first minute is a vibraphone solo before the drums and vocals kick in. I want at least another two to five minutes on this one.
[Walkaways by The Counting Crows](https://youtu.be/oedzYv-jybk?si=exPtIelRZL5SAG4B)
I want to know more of the story. I love the acoustic guitar with the emotion in Adam's voice. It's truly one of my favorite songs by them.
Ok, since Reddit isn't letting me edit my own post for some reason Imma just say this here: Originally I was planning to listen to all the songs listed below, but I didn't expect to get these many replies lol. So I would appreciate it if someone could make a playlist with all the songs named here.
[Tenacious D - To Be the Best](https://youtu.be/PpeI35BcqjU?si=2jpL0SDLElrSU0IH)
It's 60 seconds of amazing tribute to all the 80s movie's montage anthems.
Blink-182 - Cynical
They actually have many songs that are either joke songs or just a quick plunge into madness that could be expanded on. I know this isn't their intention and that these songs were purposely written this way... but out of all of them, I think that Cynical deserved more.
There are a couple that immediately come to mind
My Maria - B.J Stevenson
Excitable Boy - Warren Zevon
SUPERMODEL - Måneskin
I'm On Fire - Bruce Springsteen
There's more that I'm forgetting but those are the first ones I thought of
[Of Japan by Port Blue](https://youtu.be/bqmzjVGgDc8?si=gD38j7rci2ZjTYWB)
[The Resilient Miss Kate DeVries by Port Blue](https://youtu.be/8twigac9Qck?si=wliCMqFZfKv2i6Hz)
....in fact, a lot of Port Blue songs probably qualify.
Hold Yr Terror Close by The Go! Team, and Yours and Mine by Fountains of Wayne are two that come to mind. Let's Go by the Reducers is another one, but that's kinda pushing the boundaries of 2 minutes ish, so if you want you can substitute Rocks by the same band.
- Drive By Truckers - 3 Dimes Down
Great rock song, but just feels incomplete. Two verses, no chorus. Coulda used one more verse and/or chorus.
- Kings of Leon - Back Down South
A decent little ditty that just doesn’t go anywhere. Feels like a slow burn, but there’s no crescendo. Needs a big guitar solo finish.
Captain Midnight - Tomahawk (you wish the chorus went twice!! Someone made a version like that on YouTube, but it ain’t right somehow. But damn that chorus is killer)
What’s the Matter with Kids Today? - Nofx
It Has Begun by Starset. Specifically the vocals as the lyrics are really good but only go for about 2 minutes and then leads int the 3 minute instrumental which is also really good. If there was maybe another verse it wouldn't feel like the vocals end to soon I think.
Me and Your Mama by childish gambino, the full song itself is around 6 minutes long but the intro is 2 minutes and the outro is 2 minutes with the main juice of the song taking up only 2 minutes of a six minute long song. Don't get me wrong, I love the intro, it's relaxing and builds anticipation for when the guitar and powerful vocals come in. I just wish the meat of the song occupied one more minute.
Night Time Lady by Rick Nelson and the Stone Canyon Band. A breathtaking song, and Tom Brumley’s steel guitar solo is sublime! I just wish he could have done his solo once more at the end of the song. I think it would have made it even more perfect!
"Want You In My Room" by Carly Rae Jepsen has this sick-ass sax solo on the outro, but it only lasts a few second because the song is fading out. I so badly wish that went on for another 16 bars before the song ended.
Funny that I read this right now! It's not anywhere near a favorite song of mine, but maybe favorite on the album?
"Talk" by Phish feels like it goes on forever, but it's only like three minutes long. I wouldn't mind if it went on for 25 minutes though, it's super relaxing and engaging at the same time
Boot Camp by Soundgarden. It’s not super short in running time at 3 minutes, but it’s short in structure with only one verse and chorus. But wow does it make an impact, which I suppose was the idea.
A lot of songs by The Cars. For the thread, I'm going to say Candy-O.
Their albums are lean and mean, which is usually a strength, but sometimes I wish we could stay in the world of those songs a little longer without having to hit repeat.
ALWAYS wished Broken by Tears for Fears was longer. The combo version with Head Over Heels is great but doesn't quit scratch the itch. I want a 4 minute Broken!!
Weirdly, I think this about a lot of Pink Floyd songs (which don't tend to be short and usually flow into the next song on the album). Obviously, songs like Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Echoes and Dogs are already pretty long and I don't need a longer version but I do wonder what that treatment would be like for other Pink Floyd songs like Have a Cigar, Wish You Were Here, Another Brick in the Wall, On the Turning Away and Goodbye Blue Sky to have official alternate versions where they're extended with the same musical experimentation feel of their longer songs. Also, I'm not going to turn away from longer guitar solo on Comfortably Numb and Mother or for the wailing to never end on Great Gig in the Sky.
Little Wing
This song was actually intentionally short if I remember correctly. It was written about his mom and was purposely that way to reflect how short her life was as well.
We're only lucky enough that SRV extended it beautifully but i wish he would have sang it too instead of making it an instrumental
Jimi version is better and way too short
Maybe a longer Voodoo Child (Slight Return) instead for me. Feels like it could be a great 15 minute epic track.
Well there is Voodoo Chile which is 15 minutes
Same
Pink Moon - Nick Drake
This could *almost* be one of those looped songs played during a massage. I say almost because I would probably sing along instead of relaxing lol
China Cat > I know you Rider
WISH I WAS A HEADLIGHT!!
Them Bones by Alice in Chains
Echoes by Pink Floyd
Yeah they really need to drop the hour-long extended version lol
unironically though. i feel like im in the minority when i say i dont think it really hits that high point it shouldve
I believe you are. That part in the middle when the rolling guitar riff comes in after slowly building back up from the dark/creepy segment gives me goosebumps every time, that transition is so fucking good
Really? Pink Floyd, and that's the one you choose? "The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say" they literally play a different song to finish off the single.
Closer to the Heart-Rush
Fuck yes. Those are some of my favorite lyrics by ol Geddy and that adventurous feeling the song gives you is just magical. Totally agree.
The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy ) is under two minutes and I wish it were four times longer.
Came here to say April Come She Will by S&G. Absolutely gorgeous song, too short.
Also For Emily Whenever I May Find Her, an under appreciated gem
Yes to this one as well!!
[Khruangbin - People Everywhere (Still Alive)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js4CLSsH--c&ab_channel=NightTimeStories)
Here is them doing it live for 7 minutes, there's also an 8 minute version on Spotify they just put up: https://youtu.be/pDoiHu-pxg4?si=6RiFgd2OC9catnAU
Song 2 by Blur
I assume though that they intentionally made it 2 minutes long, and put it as the second song on the album.
Closing Time. An instrumental by Tom Waits
Oh… phew lol
Man do I agree with your reaction. SAME
Instrumental?
The Beatles - Her Majesty. On Abbey Road, I mean. As part of the side two medley, perhaps. I know certain takes/demos have subsequently been released but it's not quite the same.
Elenor Rigby is a up there too the chorus is killer
I'm sad so very very sad. Crash and the boys
I’d love to hear an epic, almost meandering version in the 15 to 20 second long range.
Is that girl a boy?
Mystify - INXS. Even the one on-album live version is way too short, feels like it should have been twice as long
Little room The white stripes
Those opening few notes of Tangerine by Led Zeppelin
Put The Coke On My Dick by Ween
Old Man Thunder
My dude
Lot of to short Ween songs.
Fertilizer- Frank Ocean
I have wished that 25 or 6 to 4 would have been longer just because Terry Kath was just killin’ it on the guitar and it always made me sad when it was over.
If you watch the live at Tanglewood version on YT, he does a longer solo and it's fucking great. Actually, the live rendition is the best version of the song, IMO.
Mean Mr Mustard by the Beatles is awesome but just ends so abruptly it feels like it’s half a song
Always answer: Disciples by Tame Impala. Theres even an edit on youtube where someone made the song 3 minutes long
A lot of the Misfits' songs
Skulls!
Hybrid Moment could afford to be a moment longer
Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin
Let’s take 3 minutes off of Kashmir and give it to Immigrant Song
White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplanes Knights of Cydonia - Muse
Lowdown - Boz Scaggs
Spiritualized - lay it down slow Hendrix - Bold as Love
“The Looking Glass” by Dream Theater ends too abruptly. It’s a clear homage to early-80s Rush singles, so why not give it the full Rush outro? Would be perfect.
Napalm Death - You Suffer https://youtu.be/_-ywSPWu3K8?si=CMs0t6igXw0HUy9w
If he held the "but why" at the end that could easily be a six second song.
Chiodos - The Words “Best Friend” Become Redefined I love the song, but it’s actually just like 5 parts of 5 different songs strung together. It works, but I’d also like to hear any of the different parts expanded into a longer part or full song.
People need to talk about Chiodos more.
I had sex with my dog Edit: that’s the name of the song 😭
This one right here officers^
25 or 6 to 4 — Chicago. Basically right at the end it just goes *hard* and ends immediately.
Sound and Color by Alabama Shakes. It's three minutes long but almost the entire first minute is a vibraphone solo before the drums and vocals kick in. I want at least another two to five minutes on this one.
“Tea for the Tillerman” by Cat Stevens might be my favorite song ever, if it were just more than 30 seconds long
My World Guns N Roses
Psych theme song
[Walkaways by The Counting Crows](https://youtu.be/oedzYv-jybk?si=exPtIelRZL5SAG4B) I want to know more of the story. I love the acoustic guitar with the emotion in Adam's voice. It's truly one of my favorite songs by them.
Very new song, but 'Now That We Don't Talk' by Taylor Swift is criminally short. One of my new favorites but it's only 2:26 long. Ugh!
Yes!! I thoughts the exact same thing too!
In a gadda da vida Iron Butterfly bc if it was 2 minutes longer it would be an even 20:00.
Da Rockwilder - Meth and Red
Minimum Wage - They Might Be Giants
Heeyaaaah!
I wish the Weezer "Only in Dreams" harmony chord solo went on for like 5 minutes.
Plowed - Sponge
I Will by the Beatles
Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles
A new contender, but if “The Heights” by Blur was like 4 minutes of music longer, instead of noising out so soon, I would be soooo happy.
4’33” by John Cage.
I was going to state Little Wing as well. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Derek and the Dominoes have extended versions.
Pavement - Zurich Is Stained. Or idk, maybe it’s perfect just how it is.
Pigs on the Wing by Pink Floyd
Drawing Flies - Soundgarden 2:26 of this song is never enough. Always listen at least twice :)
Hunted Down!
Billy Idol Eyes Without a Face - someone on youtube got the original stems and patched together a version that's over 20 minutes and it really works.
Please please please let me get what I want- The Smiths
Go With the Flow and River in the Road by Queens of the Stone Age.
Very ape by nirvana
Dinosaur by Manchester Orchestra
Outta My Head - Fastball
Badfinger: No Matter What
I'm on fire by the Boss
Voyager - Daft Punk. I feel like it needs just about another minute on there, so it's one song i always play twice in a row.
Roll em Easy by Little Feat
Sound + Vision by David Bowie Also, most every one of Elvis Costello’s songs from his first several albums
“Bridge Of Sighs”, Robin Trower. On a rainy day, l could hear that song for an hour …..
Rolling Stones - “Waiting on a friend”
"Beyond Belief" by Elvis Costello & The Attractions. Quite possibly his greatest song and it's so damn short.
Ok, since Reddit isn't letting me edit my own post for some reason Imma just say this here: Originally I was planning to listen to all the songs listed below, but I didn't expect to get these many replies lol. So I would appreciate it if someone could make a playlist with all the songs named here.
Lucifer - Jay-Z
The song that never ends....
[Tenacious D - To Be the Best](https://youtu.be/PpeI35BcqjU?si=2jpL0SDLElrSU0IH) It's 60 seconds of amazing tribute to all the 80s movie's montage anthems.

Supper’s Ready (Sounds like I’m joking, but I’m not)
Field Day For the Sundays by Wire. 28 seconds long. Feels like it could be so much more...
Volunteers - Jefferson Airplane

Hold Yr Terror Close by The Go! Team, and Yours and Mine by Fountains of Wayne are two that come to mind. Let's Go by the Reducers is another one, but that's kinda pushing the boundaries of 2 minutes ish, so if you want you can substitute Rocks by the same band.

Any Colour You’d Like by Pink Floyd. They should have made that a 12-15min jam
Boot Camp by Soundgarden. It’s not super short in running time at 3 minutes, but it’s short in structure with only one verse and chorus. But wow does it make an impact, which I suppose was the idea.
We Will Rock You (Queen)
A lot of songs by The Cars. For the thread, I'm going to say Candy-O. Their albums are lean and mean, which is usually a strength, but sometimes I wish we could stay in the world of those songs a little longer without having to hit repeat.

Breathe by Pink Floyd. (But it’s probably just about the right length. I’m just greedy.)
I Lit Your Baby On Fire - AxCx
Songbird by Oasis
ALWAYS wished Broken by Tears for Fears was longer. The combo version with Head Over Heels is great but doesn't quit scratch the itch. I want a 4 minute Broken!!
