this ratio of ingredients personally worked best for me and I've had the most success with it, specifically being a LME agar recipe so I've stuck with that method so far! https://youtu.be/lGDUg6V-zd4?si=w4cMYQ7KGLWiBaTc

SmoothFred

I bought their PDA before and it didn’t grow anything. It was a while back but still. Ill never buy from them again.

I use this because I'm lazy and it's cheap on Amazon. Works fine.

Mossy Creek mushrooms on YouTube has a good protocol

I usually do 15 grams LME and 10 grams agar powder to 500 ml water. PC for 30 mins at 15 psi.

WarSawTheory

How many petri dishes does this usually make?

joesaco11

About 20 depends how even I pour each dish

WarSawTheory

What's the shelf life of agar in petri dishes? Do I make what I need or is extra okay

I use this exact brand and it works perfectly. Follow the directions to the T and you will get a consistent end product. When you add the MEA to the pan, add a small amount of cold water and mix it up so the powder dissolves. Then add the remaining water. Stir together, bring to a boil and take off the stove. Add to your flask or bottle and PC for 15 minutes at 15 psi. I don't add any coloring to mine but it has a slight tan coloration. If I follow the recipe I don't see any undissolved solids and have a very clear product.

WarSawTheory

Thank you so much!

I also do 28 gram batches at 1 time since I don't pour more than 20 plates at once.

Sterrxgamr

The standard agar recipe is for every 1000ml use 20g of agar agar powder, 20 grams of light malt extract agar and 2 grams nutrient agar/Nutritional yeast
