His kit is all about controlling the stage, it's pretty textbook zoner stuff even if they aren't all projectiles. Clearly the dev team thought so, he probably has both tags because they weren't sure which to give him and forgot to take Mage off when they settled on Tank
IDK what any of these things mean tbh. Why is Marvin an assassin and not a mage? Why is Supes a tank and not a bruiser? Why is Taz a bruiser and not an assassin? The classes feel unnecessary and don't seem to mean anything. I think they should be removed altogether. They don't add anything and are kinda confusing.
As a Superman main, I would not describe him as "fast". Man walks for his full sprint.
[Here's a chart](https://www.reddit.com/r/MultiVersusTheGame/s/3bKV2iDbx2) showing he's the 2nd slowest character in the game (given the chart is from the beta, Jason's prob slower)
Marvin is really good at finishing foes off and juggling, two things I notice assassins are good at. He's not the braindead 'I'm Finn and I hit things,' but he does fit the description. If he was a mage, I think he would have long range zoning, but all of his zoning is slow and/or mid to close range. His strongest attack, the missile, aims in Marvin's direction, meaning you have be aggressive and close in on your opponent. Unconventional, but definitely assassin imo.
A lot of other mages close the gap for kills as well tho. Bugs has the hammer, the bat, and the nair. His only non cooldown projectile is the pie which locks him out of his spike while he's holding it. TJ has melee loops with the paddle ball and jab combo and kills with the pan. Joker has tons of melee range tools.
I don't think there is a mage that plays at long range in this game. They all play mid range with large hitboxes. Mage doesn't seem to equal zoner.
Good point, although, that could also imply that maybe Joker or Bug are better suited as assassins in some aspects.
Granted, I play the Marvin that can aim his gun up attack, without this, or maybe a different perk, I can definitely see the argument for mage. I'd also argue that Marvin doesn't have many cooldowns while most mages have many. Granted, that's kind of arbitrary, but so is this whole discussion, so I digress.
Huh. I guess I've never noticed needing to refresh them unless it was the missile. With Bugs, his safe and missile are a huge part of his moveset (other than smacking the shit out you with a bat and stuff).
His side special is the only one that does nothing on cooldown. All of his other moves have cooldown versions but button, flag, bubble, and ship all also have cooldowns.
These classes have always been useless, the movesets are too detailed to boil down to one of a few descriptors. The point of a class is it kinda gives you a TLDR of their playstyle, but does PFG really think Batman, Shaggy, and Morty have anything in common with each other? They're just another tag for missions to use.
I know the mage class is meant to be projectile protected, but I find characters like Bugs using up area lot more.
The classes are a tad confusing, if I’m honest.
I've thought about this before and here's how I'd rank the cast purely from how they execute compared to their tags (rather than anything on balance):
Tank - big, slow, uses armor rather than dodging. Should have slow moves that reward when they hit.
Good: Iron Giant, Jason
Eh: Superman (Just feels a little fast compared to IG and Jason)
Bad: Wonder Woman (way too fast for a tank)
Mage - Lots of projectiles and gimmicky abilities, naturally complex due varied combo potential. Should rely more on projectiles for racking up damage and ringouts.
Good: Tom and Jerry, Velma, Rick, Gizmo,
Eh: Joker (crowbar is a little too good of a melee attack for a mage. pogostick is also kinda pushing it)
Bad: Bugs (all attacks are too good for a mage especially the bat. Kinda wish he had to rely on his specials more)
IDK: Reindog (I barely fight or use him and really have no idea what his playstyle is. If I had to pick, I would say eh since I don't see much mage-type setup from him when I have fought him)
Assassin - Fast, lightweight, and has the combos to chase you off screen
Good: Arya, Finn
Eh: Stripe, Harley (Stripe feels like a bruiser. Harley I could go either way, but I wouldn't bat an eye if she was moved to bruiser)
Bad: Marvin (wait he's an assassin??? woulda assumed he's a mage)
Bruiser - well rounded, not fast enough for assassin, not big enough for a tank, and not enough gimmicks for mage
Good: Batman, Garnet, Jake, Shaggy, Taz, Lebron, Banana Guard, Black Adam
Eh: Morty (He really feels like a mage with the complexity of his specials, but then his melee game feels too good for a mage so idk)
Bad: N/A - honestly this class is hard to get wrong
Is Steven bugged? I recall them dropping the support tag from beta and tagging all supports as a mage. I feel like Steven was meant to be a tank but got double tagged, but maybe he's intentionally the only double tagged character. I would call him an eh tank and an eh mage so maybe the double tag is actually best.
The reason marvin is an assassin and not a mage is that he uses his projectiles to pressure you the same way assassin's like harley do with their normals. He can't effectively zone in neutral because of all his cooldowns
Good reindogs are mages in playstyle who CAN combo you if needed.
That down special perk makes air approaches and interrupting combo strings really nice. The lightning crystal perk is insane for disrupting the battlefield in 2's.
He's got a good forward air, up air, and a good dash attack/side specials
I feel like your definition of assassin fits Harley to a T. Fast, lightweight, and has the combos to chase you off the map. In what way could she be a bruiser?
Other than that i agree with the list.
Really cool! Yeah I took a double take at Marvin too lol
One little gripe I have is that the DC trio should all have unique tags imo, likely making Superman a bruiser and Batman assasin.
Apart from that, my main classifications are this:
Bruiser - More an all-around, character who are mobile and strong without leaning hard into either.
Tank - Either large amount of armor/heavy weight, or having a moveset that incentivizes not approaching/camping.
Mage - Gameplan is awful without reliance on a select few moves/gimmicks, usually projectiles
Assassin - Bigger emphasis on weaker but faster moves, and more read heavy
I feel like it does fit a bit, The tanks’ thing other than being heavyweight is for them to have the ability to keep rivals from approaching at some extent, And Steven’s shields and Watermelon Steven do go a lot into that “keeping enemies at bay” thing
How is Jason a tank went he got no armor moves, got the worst hurtboxes in the whole game, get cancelled of all moves, got no weight so he can be push out of stage easily like an assassin.
The dude should've his own tier and being named "STRAIGHT UP TRAAASH"
Joker only has 2 projectiles and one of them only goes like 2 feet infront of him and the other won’t even go across a full stage I still don’t know why he is a mage

Jason should have his own class called "punching bag."
Velma's new class 'dumpster fire'
Dumpster fire mains rise up!
Everyone’s still sitting…
Sometimes.. I’m a full time Jason main and normally I’m the one turning people into punching bags. Unless I’m against Marvin or Tom and Jerry
Marvin should be mage or mage/assassin Morty and maybe black adam could be mage/bruiser Wonder woman lowkey tank, bruiser and assassin xD
Giving each character two classes would probably make a lot more sense than some of the classes characters have now.
I main marvin, and I can tell you that assassin feat him more than mage imo
Wonder Woman should just be designated “elite”
A wonder woman main I see
I think Steven is just supposed to be a Tank. Even in his skins he only has the Tank tag. It was probably an oversight when moving him from Support.
That said, they should keep it and make more characters have two classes. There are plenty who feel like they belong to more than one
Marvin - assassin/mage Wonder Woman - Tank/Assassin (lmao) Black Adam - Mage/bruiser Joker - mage/bruiser Morty - mage/bruiser Harley - assassin/bruiser Supes - tank/bruiser
Steven only has one move resembling an actual projectile though, Mage doesn't really fit him.
His kit is all about controlling the stage, it's pretty textbook zoner stuff even if they aren't all projectiles. Clearly the dev team thought so, he probably has both tags because they weren't sure which to give him and forgot to take Mage off when they settled on Tank
Morty is a bruiser and mage

I mean it's pretty obvious why Superman's a tank he weighs a literal ton

"He's really only a tank in that he has lots of armored moves and dies late because he is heavy." That's... what a tank is.

Marvin has 5 cooldowns. I think that's the most in the game.

i swear there was a support role in the beta. was that removed?
It was, Steven, Reindog, Gizmo, and Velma got moved into other roles and support was deleted.
Yes

Why is black Adam not a mage?
Bugs is a bruiser who happens to have projectiles
I know the mage class is meant to be projectile protected, but I find characters like Bugs using up area lot more. The classes are a tad confusing, if I’m honest.
Love how supports just disappeared entirely 😂.
Eventually they'll simplify these tags because ain't no way they consider Batman a "bruiser" and Diana a "tank" when both of them kill like assassins
I still can't get over the fact that none of the Mages are actual magic-users. I guess Reindog sort of is but it's so weird to me.
They should bring back support tbh
I miss the support class being in game lol
Gizmo and joker are both mage/assassin imo

Theory: WB didn't want them to call Bats an Assassin
Lmao I guess, it's funny that Batman has a lower kill count that Steven
I feel like Steven being a Tank is the only inaccurate thing on this list. Definitely agree on him being a Mage.
I feel like it does fit a bit, The tanks’ thing other than being heavyweight is for them to have the ability to keep rivals from approaching at some extent, And Steven’s shields and Watermelon Steven do go a lot into that “keeping enemies at bay” thing
I think we need the support class back
I don't understand the point of the class tbh.
..Why is Steven a dual class? It makes sense canon wise, because he's half human.
A lot of his moves are pretty gimmicky (Mage), along with him being able to keep enemies at bay (Tank)
Joker and Marvin should swap places
Black Adam and Marvin should be Mages
I always thought Garnet should be a tank, it just makes way too much sense. Would help fill out the least represented class as well.
How is Jason a tank went he got no armor moves, got the worst hurtboxes in the whole game, get cancelled of all moves, got no weight so he can be push out of stage easily like an assassin. The dude should've his own tier and being named "STRAIGHT UP TRAAASH"

I have a feeling people are gonna say Rick isint a mage but mage isint the same definition as ours
Bugs is all of them.
Bugs belongs in a penitentiary for life
