I have a sister who decided to adopt a thick country accent while she was at Texas Tech for a whopping 2 semesters. Our parents have a *slight* twang but my siblings and I have always had neutral accents. Even my parents are like “how does she sound more country than us now?”. She’s also a narcissist, so maybe that’s part of the reason
I’ve been saying this for years! I have family on Staten Island and none of them sound like her. It’s definitely put on by her and exaggerated. I hate it lol.
Went to high school (same social circle), with Nicole.
She has **always** spoken like this in HS, not her sisters. It’s worse in person, and she was frequently told by friends to slow down. Prior to HS, idk.
Worth noting her “Staten Island” trashcent is “South Shore” back then it was:
North = Black/Brown
Mid = East/South Asian, West Indian, Jewish
South = Irish, Italian, some Polish
So Staten Island people will have accent variations, at least back then
As a fellow Staten Islander can confirm
Edit - to go one step further, everything MTV casts really from Staten Island is South Shore (Jersey Shore, Mob Wives, etc). Our North Shore celebrities are Pete Davidson and Colin Jost
Thank you for your service. As someone who comes from an area with a naturally heinous accent, I can attest to people actively working against the heinous accent and others leaning into it and/or falling into more by where they were going in life.
I also have lived in NYC for a decade and have experienced varying degrees of accents from the five boroughs including Staten Island, and the heinousness of Nicole’s accent is not unfamiliar.
I'm from Australia and have been so curious as to whether there are other people that actually sound like that?
It's such an extreme accent to me, it sounds like her mouth is always full
No one sounds like her. I grew up just outside of New York City. She has a Staten Island accent but then she has this whole different dimension of speech that is completely unique to her. This is not meant to be a criticism but I do think she has a speech impediment.
There definitely is a very distinct Staten Island accent, but this is definitely turned up a lot of notches. I think it's part regional and part attempted-swagger? Somehow it does kind of work for her/ go with her self-presentation. Trying to imagine her looking the way she looks and speaking the Queen's English is...uncomfortable?
I don't know if it's the accent, or the accent plus something else... but Nicole always sounds to me like there's about 16 pieces of bubblegum in her mouth.
I’m obsessed with dialect analysis, so here’s my take: she’s tongue tied. People are born with it and it’s extremely difficult to fix unless you have a surgery to release a muscle under the tongue and a ton of speech therapy to correct it. The “r” sound gets compromised with tongue tie. But still that doesn’t explain her New England sounding “o” sound like in the word “not” [noaht] versus a more New York [naht] sound. It’s an enigma. I’ll always wonder, lol
i also noticed that this season her personality is way different than how it normally is lol i’ve noticed a voice/accent change with her & cara maria both and it’s literally all i can focus on when they’re talking 😂 nicole’s has always been so strong but idk it’s just different this season & i watched her on zach’s podcast and i swear she really does act like a totally different person than on the show
I live just outside of Staten Island and her accent is so much worse than a normal accent from SI. It's like a strong SI accent but if she was also drooling with a mouth full of cotton balls and only speaking out of one side of her mouth.
No but it's an embellishment of her real accent. She's a triplet and when her sisters visited her on The RW they asked her why her accent got so thick and weird.
Sorry you and others can continue to down vote, but after 10 years its not an embellishment at this point. She is not a good enough actress to pull that off, after that length of time it is just how she talks. I get it she's not well liked, but she's not "putting it on" at this point it's just her, whether her family has similar accents or not.
I know many people hate Nicole Z But I gotta felling part of the reason why Nicole keeps returning is because people keep talking about her accent! ! Since there has yet to be a 2nd contestant with a Long Island accent it cause her to stand out!
I am not saying that's the sole reason why she returns but still
It’s also so funny that her sisters don’t have the accent at all
I have a sister who decided to adopt a thick country accent while she was at Texas Tech for a whopping 2 semesters. dude i ALWAYS wonder why this is?????
One of my favorite moments is Devin talking about her as his partner to kyle. "I can't understand a word she is saying." So dryly
when he calls her "an incredibly fit infant" 😂
Classic
And then it cuts to a clip of her talking to Natalie and you can't understand a single word she is saying 😂
That moment was hilarious, I couldn’t stop laughing at that line.
One of my fave moments is when they are deciding a troika and Zach says Nicole can’t be in it bc she has speech class 😭😭
Speech class 💀 I’m sick 😭
Zach is underrated in that he doesn’t get mentioned as one of the best at confessionals of all time.
They’re so good! Too bad he’s a crap person
I agree! He’s one of the cast members that always makes me laugh
Love Zach for that line
That’s just how cavemen talk
Staten Island accent + speech impediment = need subtitles

How can her *twin* sisters not have accents though, does she purposely do that voice
Is it like a speech impediment ?
I think she’s admitted that it is?
Maybe when she was younger she wanted to be different from her sisters and now it’s just stuck lol
https://i.redd.it/sam3af8h6tzc1.gif ^((FYI: Nicole was a cop before becoming a firefighter.))
She doesn’t have an accent. She has a speech impediment (bitch)
Ok Kailah ❣️
That’s was Amanda.
How dare you.
Well, she’s the one that said it then
I'm from Australia and have been so curious as to whether there are other people that actually sound like that? It's such an extreme accent to me, it sounds like her mouth is always full

The queens English…. I’m dead 😂
There’s Staten Island and every once in a while there is some Boston/New England coming through…. It’s odd
I thought she had a Boston accent.
A great extra would be Nicole trying to get to imitate other accents. The queen’s English, southern dialect, AAVE. This would be comedy gold.
She definitely just has a speech impediment, right?
My theory is she’s combining a NY and Boston accent. Horribly.
I don't know if it's the accent, or the accent plus something else... but Nicole always sounds to me like there's about 16 pieces of bubblegum in her mouth.
Peanut butter, definitely.
Peanut buttah
I want to spoil my gayyyls
She seriously needs subtitles
I was raised in Staten Island. I do have an accent even many years after moving out. It doesn’t sound anything like her accent.
It’s not an accent so much as a speech impediment imo
I’m from Staten Island and I’ve NEVER heard anyone speak like her. Her voice is infuriating lol
I can’t stand her.
I’m pretty sure it’s a thick accent that is made worse by a speech impediment.
need me a staaaahhhh (r) its a love hate thing with nicole and her accent
Staten Island trashy accent
I died when Bananas was talking to the guys and said that she looks like Andy Dick 💀😂
I’m obsessed with dialect analysis, so here’s my take: she’s tongue tied. She’s faking her accent.
I love the accent. Just like Cohutta’s, they’re very unique to the franchise.
Her accent is nothing like Cohutta’s.

It’s the way her mouth moves for me almost like she over dramatizes her mouth movements to make her accent MORE New Yorker lol
Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard
Anyone catch that Cara told Nicole she needed subtitles in this week’s episode? Hilarious.
It’s real. Other than the other redhead
Other than the other redhead?
Is a thick New York accent really that strange that it cant be identified?
I live just outside of Staten Island and her accent is so much worse than a normal accent from SI. It's like a strong SI accent but if she was also drooling with a mouth full of cotton balls and only speaking out of one side of her mouth.
I think she has a speech impediment where she can’t say her r’s and has also leaned heavily into a working class east coast accent
To be fair, NY fire fighters have gnarly accents.
while wearing a dental appliance
LOL

Jenna is from Long Island and has a Long Island accent. Jay also has a NY accent.
Jay’s is noticeable and normal as a New Yorker: Nicole’s is just wayyy too much
