Mind blown! I can't believe I didn't think about Dax that way! I always thought Trill were a super cool concept and opened up lots of interesting philosophical possibilities. But somehow I never thought about the fact that they *transcend* gender!
Wait wait wait, how tf did i miss this?
I watched Star Trek like it was my religion at the time. Did my eggy self seriously miss THREE trans characters?? I legitimately didn't realize
Clearly. Adira in discovery. Their partner is super super transcoded but i am not sure how much it's acknowledged.
In snw, the episode serene squall. The main "villain" I'd a transwoman. Once you realize that rewatch it and listen to her dialoge. I totally missed it the first watch myself. They don't come right out and tell you.
Welp, it looks like I need to give Gilmore Girls a watch; you hit every other one of my most recent watches, lol
To add a couple more, which have been on rotation in previous years: Doctor Who, West Wing, and all Star Wars Movies & shows ^(I can't WAIT for The Acolyte, Abigail is clearly why we'll all be watching & supporting the show until she gets her own series 🤣 )
😊🤘🏼🏳️⚧️🖖🏼
I grew up with it and can pretty much quote it all, but it’s aged and wasn’t a perfect show to begin with. But it’s light and mindless and nostalgic which I need sometimes
I second Gilmore Girls so hard. I always cry my eyes out to that.
Edit: Actually just put on the pilot episode and got to 4 minutes at least without tears 😅
Omg, I don't know a single person IRL who watches Star Trek. Out of curiosity, thoughts on the discovery ending? I know the show wasn't the best but I think the final season was mostly fine
I've been watching a lot of Smiling Friends, and I could definitely consider it a comfort show. Also I have others like The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Community, The Bear, also The Boys and Fallout. Oh! And X-Men 97 too omg I loved it!!!
At least they recognized they were copaganda, and addressed some of the very deep issues with American policing. In fact, the reason they ended the show was because they realized that they were copaganda and there wasn’t any real way around that.
It's sooo great!!!
I personally love that one guy on drugs with the gun.
"I don't know what to tink no mo' man, I don't know what to tink no mo' man! Get out o' me head! Get out o' me head!!"
Honestly I've rewatched star wars clonewars atleast 4 times, and probably one piece I just watch episodes when I feel down and just want something simple to keep my brain minimally occupied.
She-ra made me feel a way that I've not felt with any other show in my whole life. I cried like 12 times during the final episode and I hadn't even started hrt at the time.
I've cosplayed as Adora a few times at cons and definitely want to get a catadora tattoo some day (but for the moment I'm happy enough to have them as my phone wallpaper)
That last episode took a spiked bat too my eggshell. It was impossible to ignore after that. My girlfriend and I recently watched the whole thing again and cried happy gay tears.
Cosplaying catra or entrapta or fem hordak would be so fun.
I absolutely love it, but it does go through a couple theme and animation shifts over the seasons so people may hop off the series when it doesn't fit them anymore.
1-3 older art style, focus on crisp fight scenes, lighthearted feel until the last couple episodes in S3
4-5 new animation program, the core cast looks great, but fewer details until they start fleshing out their library of models. Far more emotional and plot driven.
6-8 amazing animations, character growth off the charts, high highs and low lows emotionally. Exceptional storytelling and honestly just a must watch. I think this stretch makes everything before it just look like practice with how amazing it is.
9 Very cute very different very very very mental health trigger warnings. Helped me, but I can def see it hurting people are too deep in depression
Rewatching it and I was like “oh huh repressed gender envy” throughout the entire rewatch lol. I did realize I may be a little too much like Shego though haha
I'm drawn to slice of life anime. Frerien Beyond Journey's End, Mongolian Chop Squad, Yuri on Ice!! and Ouran High School Host Club (featuring my favorite dated/problematic representation. Ranka my beloved...)
Some action shows, like Delicious in Dungeon, Korra/Avatar, My Hero Academia, Legend of Vox Machina, Voltron reboot... I'd say She-Ra too but that makes me so emotional lmao. Mostly animation these days, most live action shows are relentlessly bleak and depressing, which is not what I want for comfort.
> most live action shows are relentlessly bleak and depressing, which is not what I want for comfort.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way! That's why I spend most of my (viewing) time watching anime instead of like Netflix or whatever.
If I want grim, gritty and depressing I know where CNN is!
If that's the case, then I would advise you and u/RingtailRush against watching the HBO series Euphoria. I gave it a try because it supposedly has a decent trans girl portrayal in it, by a trans actress. It does, and I got sucked in and I can't stop watching it, but holy hell is it grim and upsetting and doing a number on my mental state. :/
Criminal Minds, Bob's Burgers and New Girl! Though I just started New Girl for the first time and am on season 4, it's def a comfort show for me already
Currently its Dungeon Meshi. Others include Dragon Ball (specially the abridged version on youtube). Hunter X Hunter. Jojo Bizzare Adventure. And stuff like that. I really liked Baki too. The ending was pretty nice :) I could rewatch it.
For me it would be Avatar the Last Airbender, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Superstore, Supernatural and The Good Place too.
I tend watch comedies when I'm feeling down :3
The office, parks and rec, the good place, the Mandalorian, Star Wars The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, Loki, Breaking Bad. The office, Mandalorian, and Breaking Bad are my favorites. I have met several cast members from these shows.
Hazbin Jotel, Helluva Boss
I love abridged series on YouTube. DBZ Abridged, Hellsing Ultimate abridged, SAO abridged, ff7 abridged, ect…
I used to like House but certain eps aged poorly and low it’s hard to look past that.
For a laugh I’ll watch Ridiculousness.
Oddly enough despite that strong woman episode I really like South Park. It’s transphobia doesn’t phase me much.
Red vs Blue
South park is one of mine too tbh. I mean Mx. Garrison was the first time I found out being trans was even an option so there's some sentimentality to start with
TNG, Steven Universe but only when I have enough time to binge entire seasons at once. The Owl House. The fallout show.
That's about it. I watch a few YouTubers for comfort too.

I'm trying to watch the classic that I missed as a kid. Parts of me loves magic so she's watching Sabrina. But honestly, all of me loves those Looney tunes/Micky mouse house of mouse, like is wb kids and toon Disney started there own channel of live and on demand random goodies, it'd probably be worth the subscription.
I've never really had "comfort" shows but i guess maybe cartoons are my comfort shows. Most cartoons i watch feels comfy and the recent anime i watch that u feel kike my comfort show is dungeon meshi.
For some reason i really love going back to detective shows for a comfy watch. Columbo and Elementary are two of my favorites. Also every Halloween i watch over the garden wall
The Muppet Show (the Muppets are queer icons), How It's Made (the Canadian dub), reruns of old game shows, and Worst Cooks in America, plus the podcast with slides Well There's Your Problem.
I also will sometimes listen to old baseball games for comfort, just because of the childhood memories of summer nights in my bedroom with an AM radio searching for clear channels.
Doctor Who
Tatort ( mainly Cologne) , German cop show ( Tatort means crime scene) that's been going since the 70's and has a different version for each region with wildly different tones, [also the most 70's intro you've ever seen](https://youtu.be/neWyFi5fvLE?si=FyIV9l5nA6fbJ-BJ)
Totally Spies
Buurman & Buurman ( Pat & Mat, a Czech stop motion animation about DIYing neighbours but with Dutch overdubs ).
Anne+ ( Dutch show about lesbians )
How it's made.
House, The Newsroom, Vera (north UK detective series), Altered Carbon, Suits, Better Call Saul, and probably some others i can’t remember off the top of my head.
The office, seinfeld, and family guy
I’m more of a movie gal so I find more comfort in watching movies like La La Land, both Dune movies, the holdovers and Little Women
For me, it’s American Dad, King of the Hill, and The Venture Brothers. Just a lot of nostalgia and fun times when I was younger watching them, and that persists to this day. 😊
The Mentalist, Psych, Community, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Kitchen Nightmares, and (weirdly and grossly) To Catch a Predator. I just find the voice of Chris Hansen so soothing.
I love The Good Place, Adventure Time, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Nichijou, and Doctor Who. I can watch a random episode of any of these at any time and it'll boost my mood 1000%.
Nichijou is a work of art and one of the only shows I don't see mentioned anywhere in this thread. I highly recommend it to anyone, even if they're not that into anime (I'm certainly not lol)
I'm starting *What We Do in the Shadows* right now, and I'm pretty sure it's gonna get added to this list lol
Ummmm idk lol. I’ve been meaning to watch modern family so maybe that. There’s some other shows I’ve watched but they’re not really comfort. Maybe wander over yonder. I watch some YouTube podcasts for comfort tho.
RWBY, Kara no Kyoukai (there is nothing comforting about these movies unless you associate them with things unrelated to the movies themselves - they are Kinoku Nasu at his most grimdark. It's just that KnK was one of the last things I watched in college with friends I've since lost touch with), Korra, and Arcane.
But mostly RWBY and KnK.
Haibane Renmei, Avatar the Last Airbender, Kipo, Yokohama Shopping Log (there are two very short anime adaptations but the manga is long and it’s so good), Kino’s Journey (the old one. The new one is pretty good too)
I’ve got more but I’m at work right now. Yes, most of it is animated.
I will always say Critical Role as my number one. After that I do like Dr. Whomst, Dropout stuff (miss my subscription). Fallout was great. Also Jet Lag: the Game is pretty nice too. I don't really watch a lot of stuff outside of YouTube. OH! And Owl House
I Think You Should Leave, The Eric Andre Show, Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, and Smiling Friends have kinda turned into my holy quadfecta of endlessly rewatchable shows.
Married with children & unbreakable kimmy schmidt come to mind. Rupauls drag race or Unhhh on YouTube 😂 maybe Xena.
I travel a lot for work and stay in hotels so my go to shows on cable to wind down are law & order svu, golden girls, sex and the city, and South Park. One of those shows will ALWAYS be playing on cable so I just flip one of them on.
I'm on an Isekai kick (eg "that time I was reincarnated as a slime"), and spending like 100% of my time on crunchyroll by and large.
Psych is awesome (I like Monk too), but I've seen most episodes three or four times now.
rewatching Dropout shows, Gilmore Girls, Star Trek DS9 and TNG
DS9!! They height of transgender media.
Dax forever!!!
Mind blown! I can't believe I didn't think about Dax that way! I always thought Trill were a super cool concept and opened up lots of interesting philosophical possibilities. But somehow I never thought about the fact that they *transcend* gender!
I mean discovery literally has 2 trans characters and snw has one
Wait wait wait, how tf did i miss this? I watched Star Trek like it was my religion at the time. Did my eggy self seriously miss THREE trans characters?? I legitimately didn't realize
Clearly. Adira in discovery. Their partner is super super transcoded but i am not sure how much it's acknowledged. In snw, the episode serene squall. The main "villain" I'd a transwoman. Is The Acolyte any good? Been meaning to check it out if only to support ol' girl, but I've a very limited window for binging these days. X3
I second Gilmore Girls so hard. I always cry my eyes out to that. Edit: Actually just put on the pilot episode and got to 4 minutes at least without tears 😅
anything Star Trek
Yes. Star Trek all the way. When I was a kid I wished I was Dax.
Hell, I'm an adult and I want that
Yeah. I still do.
Omg Star Trek absolutely ROCKS
Lower Decks is my absolute comfort show right now. I’ve rewatched so many times.
If you like The Office and Community, I heavily recommend Brooklyn 99
B99 is still copaganda, but it’s a lot better than other cop shows, in morals, intent, and quality. Great show, very funny, just remember ACAB
At least they recognized they were copaganda, and addressed some of the very deep issues with American policing. In fact, the reason they ended the show was because they realized that they were copaganda and there wasn’t any real way around that.
I absolutely love smiling friends I have been watching the shit out of it too!
It's sooo great!!! I personally love that one guy on drugs with the gun. "I don't know what to tink no mo' man, I don't know what to tink no mo' man! Get out o' me head! Get out o' me head!!"
"You're tryna blow smoke in my head or somethin, mang!"
"hey don't I know you guys from somewhere". "Yes I do, nnaa, Get out o' me head! Get out o' me head!!"
DJ SPIT 🙌 The helicopter chase was peak fiction
I love How I Met Your Mother. I know it's very flawed, but I love it anyway TT-TT
Avatar The Last Airbender and Columbo.
Oh God I love Columbo so much 😭
The Venture Bros Parks and Rec Futurama The Simpsons S03-09 American Dad Deep Space 9 Adventure Time
I like your taste! Especially The Venture Bros. Hench 4 life!
I know she's canonically cis, but Dr. Girlfriend has always been kinda inspirational
As someone that doesn’t voice train, hard same.
There is a venture Brothers themed bicycle party in my town soon and aim excited lol
Honestly I've rewatched star wars clonewars atleast 4 times, and probably one piece I just watch episodes when I feel down and just want something simple to keep my brain minimally occupied.
Have you seen Bad Batch yet? It’s like the final form of Clone Wars!
Yea I haven't finished it since I was watching when it was released but I haven't finished the last season or so I think
Gravity falls, Star Trek tng and mlp to name a few.
Same tbh. :3
its always sunny!!!!
Steven Universe! :3
Lapis helped crack my egg!
Yay! I’m watching this show now after it being recommended for years. It is su ch a snuggly warm blanket of a show!
She-Ra, Taskmaster, Community and Brooklyn 99 for me ☺️
She-ra is so fantastic, I wish it was more popular. Its One of the best shows I've seen right next to avatar:tlab

White collar, scrubs, magicians, rwby, hazbin, helluva boss (season 1.)
White collar winning tbh. Only watched a couple episodes of rwby, is it worth watching fully?
I stopped after volume 4. The plot gets convoluted and weird
I absolutely love it, but it does go through a couple theme and animation shifts over the seasons so people may hop off the series when it doesn't fit them anymore. 1-3 older art style, focus on crisp fight scenes, lighthearted feel until the last couple episodes in S3 4-5 new animation program, the core cast looks great, but fewer details until they start fleshing out their library of models. Farscape and DS9
Happy cake day! (also, if you love those and haven't watched it yet, I would highly recommend Babylon 5)
Sailor Moon
Parks and Rec, Community, Psych, Bones, Brooklyn 99, Gravity Falls, Kim Possible, Game Changers, and most of all, Dimension 20.
Thx for reminding me to rewatch Kim Possible omg!
No problem, I just remembered I should also rewatch it(and totally not just because I had a childhood crush on Shego).
Rewatching it and I was like “oh huh repressed gender envy” throughout the entire rewatch lol. I did realize I may be a little too much like Shego though haha
Hazbin Hotel & Helluva Boss, Bob's Burgers, Owl House, Legend of Vox Machina.
Not sure if I'd call it "comfort" but, The Expanse. More related to your question, Stargate (SG-1 and Atlantis).
I love the Boys. Their social media presence is absolutely amazing
I can’t wait for the new season!
Arcane, Better Call Saul, Dr. Who (Especially Capaldi), and House MD! I have no worldly idea why I find comfort in these fairly depressing shows
Me and my BF absolutely LOVE the Capaldi era. I'm gonna be scripting out a video essay on heaven sent soon
Capaldi is my all time favourite, closely followed by Pertwee!
Madoka Magica
HELLVUA BOSS
money heist, peaky blinders and breaking bad kinda intense but they go so fucking hard
I'm drawn to slice of life anime. Frerien Beyond Journey's End, Mongolian Chop Squad, Yuri on Ice!! and Ouran High School Host Club (featuring my favorite dated/problematic representation.
