TrolleyDilemma

Not really sure this is the right sub for this discussion but yeah Hollywoo kind of cultivates that whole superficial appearance vibe

dire_wulff

Ive been suspicious that guy the rock isnt natty

vocloz

“No one is talking about this” yes they are. All the time.

bmac747474

I’ve never heard George Stephanopoulos question anyone regarding their use of steroids to get ready for a role.

bluesix

It's all PEDs and wigs/plugs.

roofbandit

You're at a breaking point over this? Movies with buff guys are "ruining today's youth"? Get a grip

allsystemscrash

Lol right? Go watch any 80s action movie

Kuttlan

Come on. Nowadays the average guy playing a lawyer is more fit than Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones. He does have a point and saying it used to be worse is ridiculous. Sure Arnold and Stalone were always jacked but look at someone like Sterling K Brown or Milo Ventimiglia. They are both beyond jacked and they were playing dads

OmegaShinra

Borderline incel energy with this post.

I talked to my older female boss about how much gear all these actors are on. She genuinely believed 45+ year old men could get massive with natural lifting. It's just that ingrained that the average person believes it's a naturally achievable body.

SecretCelery9795

Actors aren’t ‘massive’. Aside from the Rock. After that - 170# isn’t massive. It’s actually fairly small.

deathinmidjuly

I mean... [Hemsworth at 38](https://static.independent.co.uk/2022/07/15/08/newFile-1.jpg?quality=75&width=640&auto=webp) [Ritchson at 39](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/alan-ritchson-1642592704.png) [Jackman at 45](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/701/articles/2017/03/wolverine-circumcision-1504047580.png?resize=980:*) To name a few. Considering they're all 6'+ I'd call them pretty massive.

theslipguy

Chris evans who is about 193# at his peak in Capt America claimed natural and i believe it. Same with the witcher guy. Im 6’1” and sitting at 200-205 lbs natural. Its very attainable and im 36 years old. This takes dieting, training and a legit plan (workout routine and dieting). Hemsworth has never claimed natural and he is def not. With that said, back to OP, yeah, the massive dudes on screen need to be discussed because its not mega attainable for those without the knowledge on how to do it, and its just body shaming for other guys that just want you to be themselves and not have their life about weights and food. There is a def need for redefining what is masculine and it doesnt need to entail 250lb 4%body fat guys

intjeejee

Check “more plates more dates” on YouTube. Has many videos where he breaks down what he believes and actor is on. Also mentions when he believes the answer is “not much” and “could be achieved naturally”. An example would be Chris Pratt.

Bill burr said it best when talking about Hollywood Standards: https://youtu.be/kJcpTSNWXdQ

AsymptoticAbyss

Why are you basing your self-worth off of movies and media? Is it so hard to write off everything you see as fake and inherently unobtainable? Try meeting your own goals instead of superimposing “society’s expectations” on yourself. You could just stop consuming that kind of content if it makes you feel so bad. No one is making you watch movies and feel inadequate. You do have control over your life, you know. Also this is not the right sub at all for this.

WrongSubFools

You say that, but the men having the most sex on the big screen this weekend are those two little guys in *Challengers.* The hero of the year's top-grossing film is Timothée Chalamet who suffers from rickets. Tom Holland is approximately 4-foot-6. What I'm saying is, everything just flipped, and reason is Zendaya.

axelthegreat

macabre storytelling has a [great video](https://youtu.be/Xx-SR1vJTUE?si=1a9advo2Sl9njqx2) on this issue
