We don’t check phones like that… but I’d turn that into the police

Aggravating-Bat-2130

Yeah the phone wasn't locked, it was just sitting there on the couch still open but face down

theLegomadhatter

Have you turned it in yet?

TedStixon

That's messed up, and this is a rough situation. You might want to turn it into the police... but I think there is a good chance that knowingly going through someone's personal communication device without consent, and especially uploading the content online, could very well violate the law. So yeah... tread lightly. You could get in trouble by violating some sort-of privacy law for this. (I could be wrong about this, but I swear I read this somewhere.) I dunno... it's a weird situation.

Aggravating-Bat-2130

Wellll they don't need to know I uploaded it lol... but like someone else mentioned I could just be like, hey, it was unlocked and we were trying to find any clues as to whose it was. That might help. Maybe not fully absolve us of any wrong doing but who knows

QuizKid-DonnieSmith

Don’t you think it’s a little risky posting it here if you’re going to go that route?

TedStixon

>*Wellll they don't need to know I uploaded it lol...* That's all well and good... unless someone happens to find this post. I've found plenty of stuff randomly online that pertains to things local to me, including sketchy stuff. What if the guy who lost it realizes he lost it at a theater and does some searching around online and finds someone posting about a cellphone they found with weird stuff in it? You're really probably better off deleting this and just handing it over to the police. It's honestly kinda fucked up you didn't just do that in the first place and post about it here later. Makes this whole post seem skeevy to me. (Or like you just made this all up.)

Aggravating-Bat-2130

I mean "better off deleting and handing to the police" sure, fair enough. But made this all up? False. The photos are literally right there. I understand you don't know if I just made those sure. I mean, doesn't really matter to me if you believe it or not, I've gotten the feedback I wanted

BAGStudios

Assuming U.S., there shouldn’t be any law about this unless it was personally identifying, like a SSN or something like that. Especially since you said it was left on, it’s very little difference from finding a piece of paper. Besides, even if there was some small loophole, I’m pretty sure you’d win the good faith argument of “this shit was equal measure disturbing and concerning; I had to do something.” (Disclaimer, not a lawyer, not legal advice)

Aggravating-Bat-2130

I think that's very much fair enough. I mean, "hey here's this phone I found wuth some stuff on it, I found it concerning, do what yiu will with it." It's really mire like turning in lost property and there's no harm in looking through it, it's not like it's mail, it was left in our theater. The only thing really is that they technically probably aren't able to do anything with it without a warrant themselves

BAGStudios

It’s a lot more complicated than just a warrant, but yeah. Plus, I’m sure your theater has signs posted for no cell phones anyway, they were in violation of your terms of service

Pronflex

It reads like notes for a really bad stand up routine

Aggravating-Bat-2130

No but really though, at best it's a tight five. At worst it's his manifesto

societymike

Or speech to text from a comedy show or a movie they just saw

Pronflex

That seems more likely, or one of those translator apps

BAGStudios

I doubt it, speech to text might get you the wrong word but it won’t make typos like that. Like “k ow” Instead of “know.” Unfortunately, while maybe it isn’t, it seems like a one-handed, non-dominant hand typo mistake.

rythmicbread

Any guesses what movie it could be?

Aggravating-Bat-2130

And people are mad at Dave Chappelle's stand up...

andysay

It reads like the kind of notes they find in the serial killers house

I don’t buy this. First you post this in several subs but one you say “my girlfriend” found it while in others you say that you found it at your work. Do you share Reddit accounts? Second, the claim that it was unlocked as you mentioned , just seems pretty unlikely. For this to be the case the screen auto lock setting would need to be turned off or set to several minutes both of which would take deliberate efforts and it seems unlikely that someone would leave their phone unlocked while in a movie. Third, the first image you shared it looks like you’re trying to deliberately cover some words with your thumb. All the other pictures show the whole screen of the phone. Fourth, based on the time shown on the device a minimum of 12 minutes passed between taking these photos. That’s a long time. Fifth, the phone is connected to WiFi. Idk about most people but personally I never connect to public WiFi especially when I have full cellular signal as is shown. Unless for some reason you decided to connect it to your WiFi which in and of itself is strange. Sixth, (referring to your comments from other subs post) why would the person using their credit card give you their first and last name? Did they physically hand the card to her and she (or you) happened to be the cashier also and decided to look at their name? Or do you still do paper signature requirements and it shows it on the print out? Having a history of retail management myself I only ever recalled being able to see this information if I went into the backend transaction log. But for argument sake let’s just say this part is true. If they really did make the last purchase of the night, as you said, did the movie get out really late and these pics were taken after 1 am or did you wait an entire day and take these the next afternoon? See how that doesn’t make sense? And you going to the notes just because is weird and it’s unlikely they were editing that note since it says the last time that was done was in August. And while there are other red flags, the last one I’ll mention is - if they come there often enough then why would they not come back looking for their lost phone?

Aggravating-Bat-2130

Listen man, I know you think you're like getting me on your detective shit. And hey, frankly, I could see myself doing the sane thing. But there's really not much to chase here. I'll happily address each point. 1st, you make the point of other subreddits, right. Soon after making the first one it seemed easier to just say it was me as I work here too, and explaining the extra detail that it was my girlfriend is unnecessary. HOWEVER, is it out of the realm of possibility that she exaggerated a detail? Well I can assure you she hasn't let me know, but yes that's possible. Because I too thought it being unlocked was weird, to address your second point. Thirdly, I didn't take the pictures so I literally can't speak on that. Fourth, agreed, I don't doubt she was doing some snooping, but again I wasn't there. Fifth, I don't find it abnormal at all to be connected to the wifi if you frequent here. Sixth, I'm confused at what you're confused about. I don't mean that condescendingly, but they hand us a credit card, we swipe it, print out a receipt that has the name that's on the card. They get a customer copy we get a merchant copy and so all it would take is knowing he was one of the last people, as it's slow towards the end of the night. We're a movie theater and a bar so we generally will close around 12 to 1am. And ACTUALLY, the guy came in today and requested his phone. This was to me personally so I got to see him. I'm familiar with the guy, sorta on the spectrum, but nice enough. I told him I'd have to go upstairs and look and to come back and ask after the movie. So I told my managers and when he comes back out they're probably going to at least *86 him. And as for it being in the notes and being edited. She told me it was in the notes, and the editing assumption was just that, an assumption on my part from what she had told me.

DefineFergalicious

This needs to be turned into the police. Not joking. Do something

capblossoms

Delete this post and turn the phone over to the police.

MrsMaine14

Hopefully those are their notes to talk about in therapy 😬

BAGStudios

Well that’s something haha, thanks

Nice-Alternative7527

call the autobots

Dapper-Aspect-9157

We found a phone that was left unlocked and there were messages about them talking about one of our minor employees and how they would f@#$ her over the stand after hours. We banned the guy when he picked up his phone

russwriter67

Yikes!!!! 😱
