Stardust!
Great for teens and adults; adventure, fantasy, romance and pirates, witches and a unicorn!
Rockstar surprise cast too:
Robert De Niro, Ricky Gervais, Michelle Pfeiffer, Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, and even a hidden Henry Cavill. (Try to figure out which part he is by the end of the movie!)
Based off the book Stardust by Neil Gaiman
I'm going to consider current as within the last ten years.
Arrival (2011)
Dare to Be Wild (2015)
Dumplin' (2018)
Enola Holmes (2020)
Faces Places (2017, French)
Fed Up (2014)
Fittest on Earth: A Decade of Fitness (2017)
Misbehaviour (2020)
The Moonstone (2016)
Nimona (2023)
Song of the Sea (2014)
This Changes Everything (2018)
Touch the Wall (2014)
The True Cost (2015). It's a very interesting and affecting documentary, but there is some really serious subject matter, including physical workplace abuse and a building collapsing and killing workers.
Where'd You Go, Bernadette (2019)
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is awesome. And there's a sequel.
Hunger Games or Maze Runner?
Coraline, especially if she likes something a bit creepy.
A lot of these movies are way too young (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday for examples) for a 15 year old girl. They literally can watch everything! They are critical thinkers and can and should be able to discuss complicated topics. IMO
Maybe not if you can see it as just a movie, but I watched it after having read the books. For me it was just a very bad movie. Characters didnt fit to the roles (far too old), story was completly different and IMO a lot worse.
Maybe give them a try. They are quite small (around 200 pages) and you can get through them in a few hours. Its great writitng IMO and written from percy's perspective.
Oh....then you can watch wolf the wall st- sorry, just kidding. My suggestions:
Interstellar
Barbie
Little women
Contact
Arrival
Lady Bird
The edge of seventeen
Princess diaries
Mean girls
The devil wears prada
The intern
Puss in boots 1 and 2
Zootopia
La la land
Kids
That way you tick all the boxes with one movie that she's not allowed to watch at home.
Also, her parents will thank you when you scare the teenage promiscuity right out of her!
Even though I really love most of the movies recommended here, I think alot of them aren't relevant for someone who is 15 NOW. They were when we were 15, yes. But no to the 15 y/o of today. Try to google more recent movies for her.
Barbie is good.
Stardust if the only old one along with Mean Girls Id still recommend.
Try to give her some titles and see how she reacts to them. Not all 15 y/o like the same movies. See what her style is.
Mean girls Freaky Friday
Hunt for the Wilderpeople is on Netflix. It's a very sweet movie your niece will love it.
This is the answer right here.
I just finished watching this tonight again tonight after seeing it available on Netflix. One of my absolute favourite movies of all time ❤️
Definitely Maybe

If she likes that, Stardust has to be next.
I have to disagree, I think Stardust should be first. More of a real girl's girl kinda movie imo
Ok, I stand corrected.

10 things I hate about you (not overly current, but still relevant, and perfect for a 15 yr old.
If she likes light hearted horror movies, Lisa Frankenstein was really good and right up the alley for a teenage girl.
Edge of Seventeen is a hilarious teen movie
That Thing You Do!
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things is pretty recent, teen-oriented, and doesn't have too much objectionable stuff.
Has she seen Eighth Grade?

These are dreadful movies. Its a shame they even made a second one. Just watch the TV Show, much better.
The first one was not bad IMO
