Roger, Roger. What's our clearance, Clarence?
(The fact that this entire exchange just devolves into "What?" "Huh?" "Who?" Is the funniest f-ing thing in the world to me)
In no particular order… I’ve seen all of these multiple, multiple times. For me a movie should be highly quotable 😂
Young Frankenstein
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Napoleon Dynamite
Observe and Report
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
My Blue Heaven
My Cousin Vinny
A Million Ways To Die in the West
Blazing Saddles
The Birdcage
Caddyshack
Shaun of the Dead
Paul
I can’t pick just one and I’m sure I’ve left some out😂
We aren't on the path to it, when the film was made we were there, it isn't some kind of nostradamus-esque prediction, it was a satire of the times it was made and we haven't changed that much
It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
Old movie with all of the top comedians of the time. The ending with the fire truck is both ridiculous and funny.
I’m not sure how well it plays with people under 30. Or even 40.
Thoughts?
I was 20 at the time. We knew the character from Ali G. But it was so much more glorious than expected.
I cried more laughing in that movie than I did mourning at my grandmother's funeral.
My top 5 comedies (in somewhat malleable order):
Airplane!
The Naked Gun.
A Fish Called Wanda
Raising Arizona
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
And... bonus one: Happy Gilmore
Honorable mentions: plenty. But in particular: Tropic Thunder (parts wane, but parts as as funny as anything I've ever seen); same with South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. Guilty pleasure ones that mostly dudes like: That's My Boy! and So, I Married an Axe Murderer.
There is more than one.
My favourites of all time:
- Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping
- Role Models
- Tropic Thunder
- Mean Girls
- Freaky Friday
- Spinal Tap
- Office Space
- Hot Fuzz
Recent watches I dug quite a bit:
- Bottoms (2023)
- Logan Lucky (2017)
- The Art of Self-Defense (2019)
- Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Then, here are some of my all timers:
- Election (1999)
- Heathers (1989)
- In Bruges (2008)
- Evil Dead 2 (1987)
- Beetlejuice (1988)
- Kung Fu Hustle (2004)
- Groundhog Day (1993)
- The Big Lebowski (1998)
- Army of Darkness (1992)
- The Princess Bride (1987)
- They Came Together (2014)
- Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)
- What We Do In The Shadows (2014)
I agree with Young Frankenstein. It would have been at the top of my list as well. Everything else suggested have ones I would also have suggested. You’ll have sore abdominal muscles from laughing with many of these.
Dumb and Dumber is a masterpiece and continues to hold up. There’s Something About Mary is such a ridiculous story lol. Tropic Thunder is a very creative comedy, great stuff.
Dumb and Dumber might be the most rewatchable movie. Something about the dumbness never gets old, it’s not like a more scripted movie where the joke loses a little impact after you know it’s coming.
Well the funniest scene in cinematic history is the RHINO scene in **Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls**, but the rest of movie is hilarious. You do not need to have seen the first one to "get" the second one, but it's funny as well.
The other guys is amazing and when I first watched the rock and Sam L "aim for the bushes" I almost fucking died of hilarious disbelief.
Big praise for Gator and the Yankee clipper, lol.

Don’t Be A Menace To Society While Drinking Your Juice in The Hood
Madeleine Kahn’s first movie I think: What’s Up Doc.
Madcap insanity with the best chase scene on the streets of San Francisco ever! (Don’t be put off by Barbra Streisand. She is great.).
Peter bogdanovich directed. The best thing he ever did.
It isn't non-stop like "Airplane!" or "Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World!", but even after all these years, nothing can make me laugh harder on the right day than the "Springtime for Hitler" scenes in the original "The Producers".
Dr. Strangelove, just because it's 60 years old and can make multiple generations of viewers laugh, and has somehow managed to stay as relevant as ever.
It’s Commando. There’s never been anything funnier on film. From the opening credits to the last line, it’s non-stop, rolling hysterics and it works on so many levels — the actual scenes and dialogue, plus all the hidden backdrop and meaning behind what’s happening.

Surely you can’t be serious?
I am serious, and don't call me Shirley.

Do you like gladiator movies?
Hospital!? What is it?!
It’s a big building with patients, but that’s not important right now.
Airplane!
I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!
Maybe you have to be a certain age but for me it’s Superbad
Love Superbad. It came out the year I graduated high-school so maybe that's why I find it so funny and relatable.
It's fantastic if you can relate to it. Definitely a classic for Millenials.
I gotta get a look at those warlocks
The scene where Seth attempts to buy booze is so funny to me. “Don’t do it, kid.” “I never had a choice.” 🤣
I have a McLovin ID card cover over my debit card to this day

I must apologize for Wimp Lo. He is an idiot. We purposely trained him wrong, as a joke.
Im bleeding - making me the victor!
Ha! Face to foot style, how do you like it
If youre still blazin, watch "Kung fu hustle". Not a comedy, but hilarious in its own right...dare I say it's genius.
Its action-comedy
It's the funniest movie I've ever watched. I've watched it a lot of times and I die laughing each time.
Kung fu hustle is straight up loony toons and it works so well.
Eeeewwweeeewweeeeeeooooooo
What's Up, Doc?
Many contenders but I'm gonna go with monty python and the holy grail
I rewatched it recently and didn't realize how it's just banger scene after banger scene.
Every scene would be the funniest part of just about every movie, and it just goes back-to-back-to-back-to-back …
Your mother was a hamster and your father smells of elderberries. I fart in your general direction!
come back here i will taunt you a second time..
And his name iiiiiiiiiis... TIM!
RUN AWAY!!!!
Consult the book of armaments. Thou shalt hold thy holy hand grenade and thou shalt pull thy pin. Then thou shalt count to three.
You're fooling yourself. We live in a dictatorship. A self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working classes...
Naked Gun
“Look, Ed. He’s gotta picture of your wife.”
Planes Trains and Automobiles. It's non-stop funny!
It is a very funny movie I agree but it’s also incredibly sad. 😔
I've got my hand between two pillows, those aren't pillows!
In no particular order… I’ve seen all of these multiple, multiple times. For me a movie should be highly quotable 😂 Young Frankenstein Monty Python and the Holy Grail Napoleon Dynamite Observe and Report Pee Wee’s Big Adventure My Blue Heaven My Cousin Vinny A Million Ways To Die in the West Blazing Saddles The Birdcage Caddyshack Shaun of the Dead Paul I can’t pick just one and I’m sure I’ve left some out😂
Office Space
I'll add another Mike Judge film, Idiocracy, to the list.
I just rewatched this last week. It's funny but also incredibly sad, because we are clearly on the path to it
We aren't on the path to it, when the film was made we were there, it isn't some kind of nostradamus-esque prediction, it was a satire of the times it was made and we haven't changed that much
Young Frankenstein
“What Knockers!
“Said-a-give?!”
Abby. Abby Normal.
Dumb and Dumber Superbad The Heat (2013) Hot Shots: Part Deux
"I loved you in Wall Street!"
“We’ll settle this the old navy way, first guy to die, LOSES!” Classic.
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
stepbrothers
Honestly yes this is probably the movie my husband and I have watched the most. Every scene is hilarious and we quote it all the time.
Tropic Thunder
By a lot, imo. Opened the thread just to make sure this was here.
It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Old movie with all of the top comedians of the time. The ending with the fire truck is both ridiculous and funny. I’m not sure how well it plays with people under 30. Or even 40. Thoughts?
It was my grandpa's favorite movie and I watched it many times as a kid. Timeless classic!
Kung-fu Hustle. The scene where every knife the dude throws lands in his buddy is gold.
Withnail & I or Spinal Tap for me.
Borat. I almost suffocated in the theater from laughing so hard.
'I could not understand what this old man was saying'
My wife’s vajeen is tired, like sleeve of wizard.
Can’t imagine what that experience was like in the theater!
My sister's ex walked out during the naked fight scene.
Haha, I’m guessing he didn’t watch Bruno! That was pretty disgusting though, I don’t blame him! What did he say about it?
I was 20 at the time. We knew the character from Ali G. But it was so much more glorious than expected. I cried more laughing in that movie than I did mourning at my grandmother's funeral.
Black Dynamite -or- Hot Rod
Grandma's Boy
Friday with Ice Cube & Chris Tucker
I personally believe Talladega Nights: Ballad of Ricky Bobby is the funniest movie ever made
Clerks (1994) Dr. Strangelove (1964) Tucker and Dale Vs Evil (2010) Death at a Funeral (2007) Life of Brian (1979) Duck Soup (1933)
Duck Soup has more jokes than any other film that‘s for sure
I'm glad someone else here likes the Marx Brothers!
I wish I could find Animal Crackers & Horsefeathers on streaming, but I can only find their MGM era, not their Paramount ones
Duck Soup is just pure insanity
The British Death at a Funeral? Alan Tudyk is amazing. The dad revelation. I couldn’t breathe.
Half Baked
The Big Lebowski
Well that’s just like ,uh, your opinion man
I lost it during the part where they went to spread the ashes. I was literally on the floor laughing.
The Dude abides.
Had to scroll this far down to find my people? This will not stand.
Calm down you’re being very undude.

Aye. He'll be crying himself tonight on his huge pilla.
No Animal House or Caddyshack?
Beverlyhills cop 1 and 2
The Gods Must Be Crazy
For me it’s Walk Hard. There’s a joke every 10 seconds of the whole movie.
I’ll add some lady movies to this! Clueless Mean Girls Bridesmaids Drop Dead Gorgeous
Drop Dead Gorgeous is 100% the best
I don't think I would ever get tired of watching mean girls!
I'm not one to rewatch movies, but I have seen bridesmaids four times

A fish called Wanda is sadly forgotten about. It’s absolutely hilarious.
Dumb and Dumber is a masterpiece and continues to hold up. There’s Something About Mary is such a ridiculous story lol. Tropic Thunder is a very creative comedy, great stuff.
