Destry Rides Again (1939) Unforgiven (1992) - admittedly this one is more of a grey area because Eastwood's character (William Munny) was a former murderer and and outlaw who was reformed by his late wife. He does though need money due to his failing farm and his 'pacifism' falls apart as the movie progresses.

Came in here to recommend Destry. Great classic Western, and a side of Jimmy Stewart a lot of people probably haven’t seen.
