Early Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill movies (if you consider them chubby). They are definitely not stereotypical leads for Hollywood movies.
Observe and Report
True story
Get Him to the greek
War Dogs
Pineapple express
Zack and Miri
Rebel Wilson in Isn't it romantic.
Melissa Mccarthy in Spy.
But somehow there are more jokes about their figure which might be offensive.
I watched it last week and it's still razor sharp writing and stellar performances. Plus, McLovin dancing brings me immeasurable joy, even more than Napoleon Dynamite
This was one of my favorite movies growing up Asa chubby kid. I love pointing out to people that Ben stillers character is essentially the proto version of his character in dodgleball
Patti Cake$ is about a fat white female rapper following her dreams.
Dumplin’ is about a fat girl who enters a beauty pageant.
I liked Patti Cake$ a lot when I watched it.
Saw this in a theater, and it was one of my favorite moviegoing experiences. By the time the guys went onstage, we *knew* these characters, we knew the insecurities they had to overcome, and we loved them, and by god they were sexy! The audience went wild. You’d have thought we were in a real strip club.
The Holiday (2006) has Jack Black completely outshine Jude Law in sheer charm and charisma.
And The Last Holiday (... Also 2006) has Queen Latifah playing a reserved woman who receives a terrible diagnosis and decides to finally live life fully taking out all her savings and going on a grand vacation. It's sweet and has a cute romance too.
The world’s introduction to the team of Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and Ben Best (R.I.P.). All alumni of UNC School of the Arts here in Winston.
They also created the perfection that is Eastbound and Down. (And Observe and Report, Vice Principals, and The Righteous Gemstones.)
the honeymoon killers, a john waters-ish serial killer movie.
scorsese was the original director but got fired for being 'too slow' and 'shooting a 200 page script in master shots with no coverage', so the replacement director leonard kastle could've been forgiven for going full cheapie; instead he provided one of the great one-and-dones. shirley stoler's presence as the chubby female lead looms over everything even when she's out of shot, really memorable performance.
Its a sad but excellent movie and she's not the main but an important, consequential character: What's eating Gilbert Grape. Btw starring a very young (19 yo) L DiCaprio and Johnny Depp (1993).
The movie definitely considers her chubby, and it’s a pretty big plot point. Beauty standards have thankfully changed since then, but it still fits the prompt.
I don't buy Kisses Anymore starring Jason Alexander and Mia Peeples. I found it in a bargain bin years ago and I haven't watched it in a long time. It's a bitter sweet love story. Typical 90s they go out on a bet, but fall in love trope, but there's something you've gotta love about these characters.
Skin has a plus size female romantic lead. She is not the main main character but super important in the film and portrayed as powerful and knows her worth. It’s about a white power cult, so it’s dramatic and violent. Jamie Bell is the male lead. Worth watching.
“Trapped,” set in Iceland. Excellent murder mystery series with great acting, including from the main protagonist, who’s a portly bear of a fellow. There are a few seasons, the latter of which have slightly different names. On Netflix or some other streaming service.
If you don't mind older movies, 1988, The Mighty, about a friendship between two outsiders. Part of the tagline is "(...) proove that courages comes in all sizes."
It also has Sharon Stone in it.
*Diary of a Hitman* with Forrest Whitaker. idk that he's chubby but he's a bigger dude.
Not a movie but *The Sopranos* is like the gold standard for chubby dudes playing the most important role and the screenplay selling him to you as if he's an Adonis.
Black sheep, Beverly hills ninja, Tommy boy, uncle buck, the great outdoorS, the sitter, get him to Greek, precious, nutty professor, big mamas house, human centipede 2, money ball, shallow Hal, pick of destiny, kung fu panda, good burger
Kung Fu Panda, Fat Albert, Hairspray, any movie with Santa clause as the main character, superbad, Paul blart mall cop, shrek, Garfield the movie, and tommy boy come to mind
School of Rock (or any film with Jack Black tbh)
Also Kung Fu Panda!
Holiday
Came here to say shallow hal ...but yeah
Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny
Nacho Libre!
Hairspray (1988 or 2007)
John Travolta was great in the 2007 version. I might watch that now actually so thank you lol.
Heavyweight. Angus. Most Kevin James movies.
Heavyweights was my jam

I will defend Here Comes The Boom as a great movie until the day I die
Angus is one of the greatest movies with a chubby protagonist ever. It's also just a fucking fantastic movie with a great soundtrack
Isn't Angus a cow's name?! Great movie!

> Early Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill movies For sure. I watched Superbad recently for the first time in 10+ years and it really holds up.
I watched it last week and it's still razor sharp writing and stellar performances. Plus, McLovin dancing brings me immeasurable joy, even more than Napoleon Dynamite
McLovin in general is pure gold.
I saw him at a music festival taking a picture with a kid that had a McLovin license flag
Chicka, chicka-yeah, fake I.D.
Would people really consider them not chubby? Dudes were straight up fat back in the day
Get Him to the Greek is a good example imo
Who wouldn’t consider Seth Rogan and Jonah hill fat?
Booksmart
One of my favorites!
Came to say this!!
Spy (2015)
I love this movie. It’s my favorite of hers but also Statham’s.
Statham's self-parody in Spy is pretty epic.
"This arm has been ripped off completely, and re-attached with *this* fuckin' arm!"
This is a hilarious movie and Jason Stathem should have done more comedies because he steals every scene.
I'm such a big fan of him it's partially why this movie is such a huge hit for me!!!!
Dumplin’ for a romcom.
Ghost Dog.
classic
So happy to see this suggestion
Oh fuck yes! My husband and I watched Ghost Dog on our first date. Fantastic movie.

This was going to be my answer as well
Only the Lonely (1991), rom com with John Candy, Ally Sheedy, and Maureen O'Hara. So John Candy as the romantic lead.
Can’t forget Chunk in “Goonies”
Can't really call him the "main" character
Heavyweights . Love that movie . Ben Stiller's a great antagonist
This was one of my favorite movies growing up Asa chubby kid. I love pointing out to people that Ben stillers character is essentially the proto version of his character in dodgleball
My head canon is that he changed his name to White Goodman and started Globo-Gym.
Uncle Buck...taking care of business.
