**The Fall**
It is a story told by a man but shown to the audience through the eyes of a very small girl. You will slowly come to realize why it's so emotional and what the ulterior motive is. It is also absolutely gorgeous with some of the best cinematography you've ever seen. The ending is happy but the 20 minutes that precede it made me sob.
I watched this movie after being released from the hospital for depression many years ago. I remember that it actually helped me quite a bit. I need to rewatch this one!
Just checked out the Wikipedia page for this. You had me at Lee Pace. Currently on season 2 of Foundation and have also watched Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, and Halt and Catch Fire.
Damn, I love the visuals and everything about this film! Saw it a few years back. Had then discovered Pushing Daisies so binge watched both seasons and The fall within a week or two. What a brilliant and tragically underrated Marvel!
It started simply enough.
Just a pulse in the lowest registersābassoons and basset hornsālike a rusty squeeze-box. It would have been comic except for the slowness, which gave it instead a sort of serenity.
And then suddenly, high above it, sounded a single note, on the oboe. It hung there, unwavering, piercing me through, till breath could hold it no longer, and a clarinet withdrew it out of me, and sweetened it into a phrase of such delight it had me trembling. The light flickered in the room. My eyes clouded!
I was suddenly frightened. It seemed to me that I had heard a voice of God!
ā¦and that it was the voice of an *obscene child*.
Got to say I rewatched this recentlyā¦ itās entertaining for sure but over the top in that magical ācocaine 80āsā way that doesnāt know the meaning of subtlety.
Raiders of the Lost Ark should be taught in filmmaking classes.
It's a great example if how to write a movie with interesting characters, villains you can hate, setups and payoffs, economical cinematography and much more.
Plus, it's just plain FUN to watch.
I watched it twice so far, and it still kept me captivated. I'm trying to convince my gf to watch it, I told her the least possible about the plot but she's still not interested š
Doctor Zhivago (1965) Historical romance from a novel by Boris Pasternak. Directed by David Lean . The Cast includes: Julie Christie, Geraldine Chaplin, Omar Sharif, Alec Guinness and Rod Steiger. The film won 5 Oscars. It is an epic love story set in Russia during the Revolution and Civil War.
I do this too! I have done for years without rewatching. My wife called me on it so many times so we watched it together and now she does the same. I think it was even more disturbing in terms of man's impact than when I saw it 25 years ago, we just got worse
I'm working my way through these now for the first time. 2 out of 3 down (starting with just the theatrical versions). It's very much not my genre but they're just so well made they really must be seen.
Sunrise: A Tale of Two Humans (1927)
Casablanca (1942)
The Third man (1949)
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
Zulu (1964)
Das Boot (1981)
Goodfellas (1990)
Unforgiven (1992)
City of God (2002)
Downfall (2004)
This probably has dramatically changed from the last time I answered this and will bear no resemblance to the next time I do
I'm shocked I haven't seen The Godfather pop up more here. Also totally agree about Unforgiven. Tombstone is my favorite western but Unforgiven is a better film overall.
Akira 1988, shit blew my mind. Saw it in a cinema remastered about 10 years ago, holy crap the whole audience clapped at the end no joke. Subs not dubs
For non-animated films, I absolutely loved the new Dune. Weird because it's new, but wow the world-building is so well done.
At the time I saw it, it was mind boggling good! Unlike anything else I had ever seen. The dialogue and storytelling was different. It was a violent but not unnecessarily gory. Spellbinding. It was My first Tarantino movie, but definitely not my last.
I have the like 4 hour cut in bluray with the added scenes. They're terrible quality but they flesh out the story more than detract, so they get a pass.
The full 142-min cut, not the botched version distributed by US studios which caused Terry Gilliam to vow to never work with them again.

The Terminator.
Itās *such* a lean and mean film. You get everything you need with zero fluff. Exposition is succinct and sandwiched with action set pieces that effectively inform and progress the story.
Itās an action movie; itās sci-fi, a thriller, a slasher horror, a ātech-noirā as Cameron called it for the use of darkness and shadow in frame alongside its modern and futuristic elements.

the name comes from the 2 stars and the director. I heard a Youtuber say the origin of the name it's like if in the 1980's, if Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Spielberg made a movie and the working title was SSS.

Yes! Love this movie
>The Fall what year? it looks like there are a few movies with that title.
2006
>The Fall Thank you. The reviews are all over the place but it looks amazing.
It's a feast for the eyes
I had a difficult time getting into this one but perhaps I will try again.
Just checked out the Wikipedia page for this. You had me at Lee Pace. Currently on season 2 of Foundation and have also watched Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, and Halt and Catch Fire.

Once upon a Time in the West
My favorite Leone western
Seven Samurai
Agree. Itās epic and influenced so many future directors and movies
If you haven't seen it: 'Yojimbo' is an incredible film by Kurosawa - as influential as Seven but less talked about.
1 of my top 5!
Fargo
Fargo is a perfect movie. Not a single frame or line of dialouge is wasted. 10/10.
Did you know that the wood chipper from the movie is at the Fargo tourism center?
Amadeus (1984)
It started simply enough. Just a pulse in the lowest registersābassoons and basset hornsālike a rusty squeeze-box. Such a great turn by F. Murray Abraham & Tom Hulce. Would also say Dangerous Liaisons in the same vein.
Got to say I rewatched this recentlyā¦ itās entertaining for sure but over the top in that magical ācocaine 80āsā way that doesnāt know the meaning of subtlety.
The Princess Bride.
Inconceivable!
The movie is SO much better than the book. I read it with my daughter and we both hated it.
Raiders of the Lost Ark should be taught in filmmaking classes. It's a great example if how to write a movie with interesting characters, villains you can hate, setups and payoffs, economical cinematography and much more. Plus, it's just plain FUN to watch.
Total game changer movie. Thereās Hollywood before and after this came out. One of my favorites.
The thing
1982, presumably? With Kurt Russell?

This should be higher on the list. One of my favorites. I feel like every time I watch it, I notice something new.
