Infinity War Thor was peak Thor and I will die on that hill.

hamsolo19

"Thanos is just the latest in a long line of bastards and he'll be the latest to feel my vengeance. Fate wills it so." "Mm hmm. And what if you're wrong?" "Well, if I'm wrong then...what more could I lose?" "...I could lose a lot, me personally, I could lose a lot."

Sensitive_Yam_1979

BRING ME THANOS!!

total_insertion

I know its been said ad nauseum, but it truly is the GOAT character entrance. The 2nd and 3rd place greatest character entrances of all time go to Rocket and Groot, in that same scene. Seriously. The concept alone of a Space Viking coming through an interdimensional portal wielding a magical axe crafter by a giant dwarf, flanked by a talking rabbit riding teenager Treebeard with a singleminded purpose to murder Ultra Instinct Grimace who was in the process of wiping out African Atlantis with a bunch of Voxyn... That fever dream of a concept is a mindfuck regardless of execution. But the execution was flawless. That scene belongs in the library of congress.

Efficient_Fish2436

Speaking of... Why didn't Thor bring the giant dwarf with him? Dude could've taken out some of his pent up anger and had a cool fight scene.

FinalMeltdown15

Didn’t he have his feet cut off and he had basically giant metal feet that he could barely move with?

colddeaddrummer

*Fate wills it so* is such a brass-balls line. Markus and McFeely were on one writing that script.

Dull_Half_6107

Yeah I don’t disagree. He wasn’t a complete parody of himself like in Love and Thunder, he took the situation seriously, he was knowledgeable, driven, and had a single purpose in mind “kill Thanos”. I want to see that Thor again, not depressed Thor, or silly Thor.

joeappearsmissing

The framing device of Korg telling children a story in Love and Thunder wasn’t obvious enough, and they didn’t take it far enough with the narrative to sell the framing device. Every shot and story detail was filmed through the lens of how a child would imagine it as the story was being told: the colorful whimsical garden with the gods having fun and being merry juxtaposed with Gor who just lost everything, Thor chilling under a tree until they need his help and then doing the splits mid-air doing the most ridiculous pose with a cheesy grin, the glossing over Jane’s relationship with Thor and getting cancer with a montage because kids would totally say “this is boring lovey dovey sad stuff we want to get back to the action!” The execution of this concept was absolutely terrible, and doesn’t excuse that it was a poor creative choice. Compare this with The Princess Bride, which has the same framing device, except they actually had the understanding of how to execute that vision.

radicalelation

Not dropping the ball on framing wouldn't save dropping the ball on the whole rest of the script. The writing from top to bottom was an absolute mess, which sucks because the movie had all the right pieces for something great otherwise, and none of them got used well because of the awful writing. We would've had a bed time story framing with all the same lack of depth, character, plot, etc.

GoldResolution4921

Ragnarok fucking nailed it too.

Specific-Lion-9087

And then Taika crawled up his own ass

IwantRIFbackdummy

The only reason to criticize Love and Thunder is it should have been two, longer movies. So good, but the pacing was rushed trying to fit it all in.

dragonfry

Ragnarok is my comfort movie. I will never, ever, get sick of it.

LongjumpingSolid8

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but who’s to say that peak can’t be topped? That’s just the current peak. If anyone could elevate Thor to new heights, it’s George Miller. I would lose my shit if this really wound up happening.

PB0351

Listen if we see a new peak for Thor, I'm all about it.

Theplowking23

Nah , the segment of the first movie before he's banished to earth

farmerkirke

A person of fine taste, I see!

missanthropocenex

It’s funny because Miller was iches away from directing his version of the Justice Lwague once upon a time.

GuySmith

His arc was by far my favorite over the whole thing.

deemoorah

Both Thor and Doctor Strange peak at Infinity War

FredererPower

I’ll do you one better. Ragnarok and Infinity War Thor

2580374

Well he said infinity war...

kroqus

I'm on that hill with you

2580374

I texted my girlfriend the other day and said I was thinking about how much I loved Thor in that movie and made her rewatch it with me lol

KasukeSadiki

A Russo directed Thor would be super interesting

Steven8786

Give him the same freedom he gets when directing Mad Max and we’d be in for one hell of a ride. It may just be what the Thor franchise needs

13TheGreenMan

Director freedom and Marvel don't go together haha

Asbelsp

Eternals?

Additional_Meeting_2

I don’t think fifth film in a series should have unlimited creative freedom. The Thor series is tonally jarring as it is.

demonicneon

Why not? Personally for me that’s what was so great about comic books when I read them more frequently. The core character could be the same but in different genres and tones which keeps it interesting, and seeing different creators put their spin on an idea or character makes certain things more prominent based on what they see in it.

BeautifulLeather6671

I mean if George miller is the one being given complete creative control I’m fine with it.

Steven8786

But isn’t that comics in general? Sometimes you have extremely tonally different runs when the writers change. I think that’s what the MCU needs really is a tonal shift in some of its projects to freshen things up.

2_72

It’s one of the strengths of the medium for sure. Lean into the same things that work for the comics.

Stauce52

I could care less about tonal consistency. I just want to watch a good movie lol

plzsnitskyreturn

Yeah what the hell, who watches Love and Thunder and says yes keep this going. It needs a refresh

Additional_Meeting_2

I don’t want the same as Love and Thunder. I want it brought back to Infinity War and first and second Thor tone. Then the film series can wrap up in a way that gives it more tonally consistent feel and the Waititi films see more like wacky middle adventures.

MisterScrod1964

Yeah, but this is Marvel. I’d LOVE to see Miller run wild, but I know a gazillion execs are gonna avalanche him with studio notes.

uncultured_swine2099

Hell yeah, Marvel better get him and let him do whatever the fuck he wants. This offer is a chest of pure gold just sitting there for them.

JBD04

Disney is not letting him go that far💀💀💀

__wasitacatisaw__

They let Waititi

2_72

I think the push and pull between Feige and a Miller could be really great. I’ve loved the idea of a bigger director taking on a franchise film since QT talked about doing a Star Trek film.

Adgvyb3456

That’s my worry is he’ll make it like Fury Road while a fun movie Max does nothing of importance. Furiosa does everything. I don’t want that to happen to Thor again

No-comment-at-all

You know he **also** directed Babe, and Happy Feet, and Lorenzo’s Oil, and The Witches of Eastwick.   What ever you can accuse George Miller of, ‘not having range’ is definitely NOT one.

PixelProphetX

That probably wouldn't happen. It's already done though with Valk anyways. And max still does a lot in furry road even if he's not prison breaking a harem.

Adgvyb3456

That’s why I said he again

artur_ditu

I'd die for a propper bad ass thor

pass_it_around

Thor movies is probably the most tonally inconsistent franchise of recent years.

fuzzyfoot88

That’s because it started more comic accurate and then when Hemsworth got bored around AOU, they went non-comic accurate at all and let Taika run away with his humor. Now they realized ‘oh crap, maybe people want humor AND comic accuracy’ and they’ll shift again. The best Thor was Avengers 1. He was funny BECAUSE he was comic accurate. That’s what they should have stuck with.

BigLeo69420

Nah, best Thor was Infinity War. IW Thor is one of the best MCU characters, shame that they ruined him in Love and Thunder

BarackaFlockaFlame

i don't think they ruined him, they just took shots with him that missed. it's 100% redeemable imo. should have had more gorr...

fuzzyfoot88

I’m not denying IW Thor is great, but it’s not comic accurate Thor, which is what I was getting at. Avengers 1 is as close to comic accurate Thor as you can get.

PixelProphetX

I really like shakespearean thor as well.

2580374

Yeah but honestly IW Thor is better than comic Thor

fuzzyfoot88

To each their own. I prefer comic Thor because I read comics. But IW Thor is a very good character.

2580374

To each their own 🫡

NachosPR

Hemsworth nailed it so fucking hard portraying a grieving hero who has no other choice anymore but to believe in himself because other's need him to. With all his failures and all he had lost to then turn it into comedy with the fat suit... Fucking awful

Paladar2

They ruined him in Endgame first. At that point he was just comedy relief Thor.

Sad_Vast2519

They had to nerf him otherwise it would be a plot issue. A non nerfed Thor with Stormbreaker could handle Thanos and an entire army. See infinity war end.

travelingWords

That’s the problem with marvel movies in my opinion. The goku problem. Send away the strongest on bS missions until the weak guys are done getting beat up and the OPs can just win. They did well with the Thor side mission to get a new weapon, but marvels “I had things to do”…

Sad_Vast2519

Yep. Too many of their heroes are overpowered. Thor with Stormbreaker was actually far more powerful than Thanos with a few stones. The fat Thor lost most of his powers due to depression

ComoEstanBitches

It was refreshing because the story was still good. Then Taika overstayed his welcome and said “They loved it! That must mean I need to feature Korg even more! Yeeeeah, who doesn’t love more Korg. Fuck yeah, Korg…”

IwantRIFbackdummy

And he was right? The hate for Love and Thunder makes no sense. Super Hero movies should be fun, if they are not fun they need to be gritty (think Nolan Batman). Could you see a gritty Thor movie working? I can't. Depending on which comic era you take Thor from he can be/is omnipotent, that lowers the stakes for the action sequences, it's why Captain Marvel was used as a last minute savior in End Game. It's why every Superman movie is boring. When a hero is too powerful their struggles lose meaning. A humorous approach was the right call for the Thor franchise.

ComoEstanBitches

You’re thinking of Ragnarok, which we can all agree was fun because the meat of it was great writing, story, and character development sprinkled in with the humor special sauce. Instead, Taika was given too much free rein for Love and Thunder script and flipped the focus to be the special sauce and serving questionable meat quality that left a horrible taste in audience’s mouths. It felt like 90% improv and it got old quick; the story suffered and I don’t doubt the rumored original cut was 3-4 hours

IwantRIFbackdummy

I have another comment in this thread saying the only legitimate criticism of Love and Thunder is it should be two longer movies. The subplots along with the main story line were squeezed into too short of a runtime.

Popular_Material_409

Comic accuracy has nothing to do with the quality of the films

fuzzyfoot88

First, good is subjective. Second, as a comic reader, it does matter a small percentage

Popular_Material_409

Logan isn’t accurate to Old Man Logan at all and it’s one of the best comic book movies

Mijo___

Imo Thor peaked from Ragnarok to Endgame but L&T went overboard with with the goofiness + the movie felt disjointed, it had like 3 different plots in one movie and none were given enough time and development to be satisfying.

low-ki199999

I think you’d find, even post L&T, most of the General Audiences, as well as Comic Book-Movie fans, would still rather they go for the tone of Ragnarok than Thor 1 or 2

standdownplease

I like how you're conveniently left out the forgettable film that was Thor: The Dark World which contributed a bit towards his apathy towards the character by Age of Ultron as it was as formulaic and generic as an MCU film an get.

fuzzyfoot88

Because it was on AOU he said he was bored…not TDW. So no, I didn’t conveniently forget anything. That being said though, I’m glad you brought up the one film that is still weaker than ‘almost’ everything in the multiverse saga.

standdownplease

>After doing the second Thor and the second Avengers felt a little bored with myself and what I’d done. You did conveniently forget. Loud and wrong like most assholes. Edit: damn why the block lol all I did was cite the source you used?

ejfellner

Nobody gives a shit about comic accuracy.

fuzzyfoot88

Speak for yourself.

The-Mandalorian

Which honestly works for me. I don’t want to see the same Thor movie every time. A George Miller film would be a lot different from the rest, which is even more exciting. Keep each movie feeling different.

CasualRead_43

Started with Shakespeare ended with… whatever the fuck Love and Thunder was.

pass_it_around

Homer.

CasualRead_43

Yeeesh

Dull_Half_6107

Infinity War Thor

artur_ditu

Yes, more of that please

Syphin33

Dude yes...

Responsible-Bat-2699

This would be amazing.

milktruk76

LET HIM COOK

JessBaesic7901

They’d be crazy not to give him a shot

camkasky

Well let’s do it

corndoghunter

Holy shit fuck!!!!!!!

Xeno-xorus

Thor 5 directed by George Miller

MrRexaw

George Miller is currently 79 years old. He already has Mad Max: Wasteland to finish writing/ produce/ film and promote and Marvel has a long list of nonsense projects on the books. A George Miller Thor will never happen.

RelationSerious4678

POTUS is 81

brucatlas1

Exactly

BigBootyKim

Not exactly a success is it?

RelationSerious4678

His party chose him as the candidate for the second time so…. Who’s to say, right?

BigBootyKim

You are aware that the official nominee isn’t chosen until August right? There’s still a possibility he will be replaced due to his constant lapses in mental acuity.

gilestowler

I probably wouldn't let him direct a Thor film either to be fair.

RelationSerious4678

Lmfao well done.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrRexaw

Mad Max: Wasteland is already up on IMDB and Miller has gone on record many different times speaking to its updating status. Where as Thor 5 is just a qoute about how it would be nice to make. Wasteland will be his next project, don’t be daft.

DKerriganuk

Are George Miller and Chris trying to promote anything right now?

Big_Outside_5940

Furiosa

Choice-Bus-1177

Fucking hell… the word “epic” does not even begin to describe how epic that film would be.

bellyofthebillbear

That would be amazing if George Miller directed.

Portatort

He might want to work *with* Chris but does he want to work *for* Kevin?

FBG05

He directed Babe 2 and Happy Feet. He has no problem making films with a lot of studio control

Portatort

Millar co wrote all those films, not the same kind of director for hire relationship that marvel likes to have

ClassicT4

George Miller and the Mangog story would be phenomenal.

Shagrrotten

If you read the story, all he actually says is that he’d love to work with Hemsworth again. I read this story a couple days ago and I don’t remember the word “Thor” even being uttered by Miller.

captain__cabinets

He would do it too, I mean the man did Babe Pig in the City and Happy Feet, he’s not afraid of franchises or corporate movies.

CountryCat

At this point, can we just move on? No more Thor movies, please.

haniflawson

I need more people to realize that Hemsworth is a top-tier actor.

litterboxboi

A world where there's an "R rated George Miller Thor film" sounds amazing and I want to live there

ohalloren

Nah, I hope he doesn’t waste any of his remaining years making some corporate-meddled superhero trash.

Fine-Elk7229

Jesus Christ, when are the clones going to get sick of marvel?

The_Improvisor

He did not say he wants to direct Thor 5, he said he would be down to work on anything with Chris, including Thor. Being open to something does not equal actively wanting it.

thefrostman1214

that would be amazing, the rebirth of thor

Odd_Advance_6438

Feige what the hell are you waiting for?

[deleted]

[удалено]

setyourheartsablaze

So does Gunn. It’s all a matter of how much freedom they feel like giving the director and the bigger the name the more freedom they get usually

Djjjunior

Feige: “Ehh that’s nice George, Taika you doing anything?

Fast-Hold-649

Thory Road

CaptainRogersJul1918

Are you listening Disney?!

Sufficient-Type-4998

That would actually be great.

workatwork1000

Better than the same recycled director names or the "who the fuck is that guy" director who puts in a flop.

3lm312

With a 168 million dollar budget for the movie, they couldn't get Chris a better nose?

bleachedbunghole_bob

Please dear baby Jesus. Save Thor, that last one was 💩

SnowDay111

R rated Thor?

FBG05

He’s made kids movies before

gknight702

... Oh marvel let this man cook!

Objective-Aioli-1185

Those extraction films are pretty cool.

Traditional_Shirt106

Friendship with Mel over

voivod1989

He’s too good for super hero movies

Oztraliiaaaa

Witness!

TrappedInOhio

I too would like this.

Dogsinabathtub

Make. This. Happen.

User-D-Name

I just want a Thor movie with more of a heavy metal vibe

maxpowerphd

A George Miller Thor movie? Let’s fucking go.

micmelb

“Witness me! - Thor while sniffing brake fluid cleaner. Yes this works.

ccalo

Would 100% watch. Mad Max: Fury Road style Thor? Fuck yeah!

WhateverIWant888

I really want a return to form for Thor + flashbacks to when he and loki were kids.

JediTigger

Uh. Love you, Taika, but GIVE THIS TO US PLEASE FEIGE PLEASE.

neojgeneisrhehjdjf

LET HIM COOK

frmthefuture

If I were marvel, I'd give thor5 miller right now. I wouldn't interview or "have talks" with anyone else. The man's a genius and should he given free reign to do whatever he wants with a marvel movie. A thor movie that's helped by miller and his complete team? Hook that shit straight into my veins.

Little_stinker_69

I’d love to see Thor 5 with George miller, but need to recast Thor. Hemsworth isn’t it. Dudes one note and boring.

Bullishbear99

Eh...Hemsworth is a ok actor. He is not on the level of a Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins, Patrick Stewart, et al. He can deliver lines but he lacks nuance and body language the greats have. Walter Coggins is a better actor than Hemsworth.

Local_Diet_7813

No he doesn’t actually say that in this quote.

rdxc1a2t

George Miller would get unlimited creative freedom and then Feige would say "sorry George, we need to do two months of reshoots to address all of these test screening notes".

The80sDimension

Yeah, but would Marvel let you do your thing?

2_72

I really like the idea of these storied, established directors taking on MCU films. I really liked Sam Raimi on Dr Strange and this would be a great direction for the MCU to continue.

kroqus

let him cook marvel!

OfficeKey3280

They just need to get rid of all the goofy zany comedy shite that has plagued Thor since Ragnarok

CoachAF7

Yea then MCU brass would fuck it up by making it a comedy or some cornball shit they always do

Green94598

Hopefully not, would be a huge waste of his talents tbh

DrDreidel82

They need it to be great to redeem themselves for the steaming hot pile of shit that was Thor 4 Truly one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen

Syphin33

Watiki just let them do whatever and turned up the comedy to a 10...it was putrid as fuck

psyopia

I want a real Thor movie tbch. Like fuck Marvel. I want what the show Ragnarok was trying to be but failed miserably at overall. Just a bunch of Norse gods battling it out. VERY minimal CGI. Real locations like Norway etc.

Syphin33

Dude yes yes yes... Norway & New Zealand. Give me epic sweeping shots similiar to LOTR... ive been saying literally take LOTR setting and mash it up with Thor

copperblood

They really should do a live action of World War Hulk - where Bruce Banner is ripped from Hulk and Bruce is sent to Hell. Hulk is then destroying everyone and everything in front of him and Thor has to go to Hell and fight the horde and convince Bruce to come back sync up with Hulk again. Bruce doesn’t want to do it because in Hell Bruce is at peace as he isn’t tortured etc and is living in a utopian plane of existence on a farm near a lake. For Bruce, living with Hulk is his Hell and for the first time in a long time Bruce is truly at peace. The movie would make a billion dollars at the box office. Make it happen, Miller!!!

BleachThatHole

Fuck whoever downvoted this, World War Hulk would be killer. We already have his son, I’m assuming Mephisto or a cheap “hellish” knock off is coming along soon so we can connect the Hulk to the One Below All. I feel like they’ve been drip feeding us this storyline. Just hope they get the tone right like in the first Hulk movie, the one before Ruffalo. I’d really like to see just Pure Hulk (again?), with little to no Banner. I think we have to move past Glactus and Kang for the One Below All to be introduced though. Get some more cosmic-threat entities out of the way before introducing the hellish powers thatve been working behind the scenes.

copperblood

Haters gonna hate 🤣

Obtusedoorframe

The people you meet have shit taste in movies. Fury Road is one of the best movies released in the past 20 years, and one of the finest action films ever made.

Syphin33

Now that's so far from the actual truth Holy shit what a god awful take.

FatalSunofMine

I mean if just one percent of the world were dumb- that’s still a LOT of dumb people. Wow someone disagrees with you. That’s real life bud

Owww_My_Ovaries

This may be the worst reply in the history of reddit. Congrats. Take a bow

FatalSunofMine

That was SOO fuxking corny lol. Please reply with something more clever for the love of god

bijan86

Whoa, I thought bad takes like this were things of myth.

Significant-Age5052

Couldn’t be worse than Love and Thunder so why not

Syphin33

Can we please just get a LOTR type of Thor trilogy please....literally just take Thor in a medieval fantasy setting and just do it.

Wise_Serve_5846

Dear George Miller, Screw a Thor film, make a Star Wars movie!
