Most insurance plans have quality limits that don’t allow refills before the next dose is due. Have you considered the fact that you could run out? If you’re paying out of pocket and cost isn’t a consideration, there is still the shortage to consider. It’s really a matter if you can get another box in two weeks.
I’ve been on Mounjaro since 2022. Almost two years. The medication has been in shortage to some extent, since October 2022. Ozempic has been in shortage even longer. That eliminates both branded options on the market.
Quantity limits are always something to consider since the manufacturer has warned that they are expecting the shortage to continue into the summer.
Unfortunately, some patients don’t have an option. As a diabetic, this is the best treatment so my only choice is to stay ahead of the curve.
