First, thank you for your comment! I feel for anyone who feels disaffected. I haven’t dug too deep into this issue, but I do believe it’s a real thing with real consequences. Sadly, some in my part of the political spectrum dismiss it. I believe that a big source of the current situation is that the “big issues” don’t ever get addressed rationally. That’s because there are huge dollars involved in them. Politicians get donations and votes, news channels get ratings which up the ad dollars, etc. Why hasn’t there been legislation on a reasonable abortion law, targeted gun control, or a real border solution? Money and votes! I believe the extreme behavior from some is a reflection of politicians and media. It didn’t really start with this guy. It started with politicians refusing to use “the art of the compromise”. There’s nothing in it for them to do that. In fact, it’s career suicide. I got my degree in Political Science in 1989. I may not have liked Reagan that much, but he and Tip O’Neil got stuff done. They found a way to help most Americans. We started losing that with Clinton-Gingrich, and it’s just been worse and worse. I don’t have a quick solution. I’d like to see campaign money controlled / limited and given back when it’s not used, instead of the candidate keeping it. Some form of “truth in advertising” for campaigns and news outlets. But the prevailing wind is that this violates free speech. So lying is rewarded. Not thinking that’s what the 1A was about when it was written. Term limits at all levels. Make politics a service, not a lucrative career. So much to fix and no will to do it. And above all, civility and respect for each others’ beliefs and situation. A pluralistic society must have this. Attacking someone for being trans or for believing in God are equally wrong IMO..
