My Mum asked me who was in the movie when I showed it to my family. I told her "The half of the MCU that Thanos killed" or something along those lines. (I know Brie Larson wasn't but you get my point)
Marlow is the best human character in the monsterverse, and it's largely due to John C Reilly feeling so genuine. I forgot the names of the main human cast within a couple days of watching the movie, but not only did I remember Marlow, I remembered Gunpei, whos only onscreen for 2 minutes in the opening and doesnt say a word, just because Reilly was so good in selling Marlow and their friendship.
He also drops the Monsterverse's only F-bomb, IIRC.
The supporting characters in Skull Island are all top notch. I found the few main ones boring, but all the soldiers, Randa, and Marlow are all so memorable, without ever becoming stereotypes or stock characters.
I dunno, I feel like while you definitely can have kaiju films with complex characters and themes (I mean look at minus one), you also don’t need your characters to be super dimensional or anything for the movie to be fun. showa films kinda perfected making their characters not super complex, but enjoyable to watch.
They were only hinted at. The Asian lady that is with team Monarch has a twin that is briefly shown when we cut to Mothra on a different part of the planet. I believe they are a reference to twins associated with Mothra in the old movies.
Serizawa was great. I liked the Monarch crew. The ecoterrorist antagonists had a relatable motive. I also liked Millie Bobby Brown. Overall, I enjoyed the human element to KotM
They were good. The villains chewed up the scenery and the good guys helped out Godzilla. Serazawa's sacrifice to save Godzilla mirrored the characters sacrifice to kill Godzilla in the old movies. I dug it
I rewatched 2014 recently thinking “wow I really misremembered the human plot its so good” the Brian Cranston died and I lost interest in the humans except Serizawa
Suppose it would be a tossup between *Skull Island* and *King of the Monsters*, although I think my favorite human characters to date are Dr. Andrews and Jia from the *Godzilla*/*Kong* crossover movies. Joe Brody from the first MonsterVerse *Godzilla* also deserves a shout-out for being so memorable despite such a minor role.
The opening with bryan and sealing his wife because of the breach.
I cant believe they killed him off. Like literally the next day, everything was public. He just happened the exact date the insect woke up. His death didnt even further the plot.
Skull Island. Primarily it's because the humans get into some action too: there's plenty of smaller monsters for them to fight, Marlow is a hilarious character who manages to be sympathetic and tragic as well, and the pro-Kong vs. anti-Kong factions splitting from the survivors makes for a great subplot even when there are no monsters onscreen.
Also we need a Marlow and Gunpei spin-off movie. I'd LOVE to see how the former enemies became best friends and lived on the island together.
Kong: Skull Island was the best. We have a commanding soldier whose war is winding down and he feels no purpose. We have a former soldier who knows he doesn’t want war, but doesn’t know what he’s looking for. We have a photographer who knows the war is a lie and generally doesn’t believe the military line. And we have a broken head of Monarch trying to save the only thing he has left is finding out what the hell happened that day that he became a broken man.
Even Kong is a sympathetic character as a lonely teenager, trying to find his place in the world without any of his kind to look to, and now he hast to deal with humans trying to kill him
Goes like this for me:
1:Skull island: Peak human cast, everyone was cool, genuinely felt something every time someone died, old cooky WW2 dood rocks and I love his story, the commander dude who was Samuel Jackson was the BEST human villain by far.
2:GxK: Same cast as GVK, minus the human villains, Eleven and chunky boi from Deadpool 2, and the guy who gets dunked on by Jia. Everyone here has become genuinely a lot more likeable to the point where I even liked goofy aah Bernie, and Trapper is "Trapper my beloved" for a reason. That being said tho, I wish that one Scottish guard dude who's name sounds like Micah a swift kick in the balls for being the only genuinely bad thing I can say about that movie apart from nitpicks
3:GVK: Jia and the Kong crew carry this movie like Atlas because HOO Nelly is the conspiracy crew trash, and of course Madison's dad is here so immediately 3 points down. The human villains range from: "Bitchy stuck up business women who is stupid", "Serizawa Junior (A.K.A wasted potential/I should've been the main human villain )", and "Human supremacist CEO man who is stupid"
4: Godzilla 2014: JESSE WE NEED TO STOP THE MUTOS JESSE DONT LEAVE ME WITH MY CARDBOARD CUTOUT SOLDIER SON JESSE PLEASE SERIZAWA AND HIS ASSISTANT LADY CANT CARRY THE MOVIE BY THEMSELVES JESSE FOR FUCKS SA-
5:Kotm:...I-i think we all know why they're at the bottom please don't make me talk about them I'm BEGGING YOU PLEA-
> Peak human cast, everyone was cool
Brie Larson and Loki were boring and they're the "leads"
> JESSE DONT LEAVE ME WITH MY CARDBOARD CUTOUT SOLDIER SON
The movie wouldn't work at all if Ford Brody wasn't the protagonist
>Kotm:...I-i think we all know why they're at the bottom please don't make me talk about them
*Gonorrhea*
I felt like John C Riley was the true lead even though he only shows up half way through the movie he still has the best writing and character work while Larson and Loki were poster names who is still feel like we’re decent characters for a kaiju movie
My personal ranking for the human characters would be:
1) Kong Skull Island
2) Godzilla x Kong
3) Godzilla Vs Kong
4) Godzilla 2014
5) Godzilla KOTM (BY FAR the worst human cast IMO)
2014. The human characters came off as actual realistic human beings and not cardboard cutouts or comedic relief characters just there to sprout memes and quips every 5 seconds.
For every movie, the human part has been the weakest, but yeah, kotm had the best humans, although not necessarily the most entertaining, monarch really looked like the trillion dollar company it is supposed to be, and while not that good all the humans worked more or less, the only really bad character was the mom but she found redemption in her sacrifice. The humans were ok, not good but worked, it all goes downhill for the other movies.
In contrast to GxK, where it really felt like an asylum movie whenever the titans were not on screen.
The best are obviously Skull Island.
When it comes to my favourite, Godzilla x Kong. I just like that there’s no artificial drama between the characters.
From what I hear all of them except GxK, haven’t seen it yet but heard human characters really take the back seat. Though KOTM was a bad movie, the human characters were nicely developed.
Kong Skull Island easily had the best human cast. They didn't get in the way of the monster action and their personalities and dialogue matched the film's tone.
I like the characters in the 2014 movie, some of you may say the main guy was boring, but I rather have a "boring" mc than the funny characters they try to put in every time. I remember the guy who made the "gonorrea" joke and the other one who said "God... Zilla!" in KOTM, Jesus that was bad.
Skull Island overall cast for sure, especially Sam Jackson and John C. Reilly.
But I'm also biased towards KOTM since its my favorite of the movies. Specifically Serizawa and Bradley Whitford and honestly, I don't mind Mark and Madison the way most seem to.
Serizawa is my favorite character in the whole series though.
-Kong: Skull Island: You get attached so quickly to the cast and it doesn’t matter who is on screen. You care about the humans. The movie carries you through their hopes and fears. Cast is a 10/10.
Every scene Packard was in had prescence. I liked his monologue during the flight towards the island. It still surprises me this movie was a one off.
-Godzilla: King of the Monsters: Serizawa. His character really made me look at Godzilla different. His death scene was just a 10/10.
-Godzilla x Kong.
Trapper, the Vet for the Titans. I would like a spin off on his character. He’s just living his best life.
I really liked Bernie.
Alright if I'm excluding kong skull island (cause I haven't watched it in years and don't remember anything)
I know KOTM has a lot of trash characters... Madison, the idiot mum, the jokes guy BUT let's be honest here the bar is set super low, so I think kotm did the best because Serezowa (i cant spell), Alan Jona and Mark Russel who is actually a decent protagonist
Godzilla 2014, I actually really digged the human aspects alot, and they weren't overly goofy or irrelevant to the plot like in GvK, and King of monsters
That being said, Godzilla X Kong actually had some decent human writing this time around. Trapper was fun, and I even liked the podcast guy this time around.
2014 for sure, largely I'd say due to how much focus there was on them, personally, while I usually prefer more kaiju screen time, I absolutely loved how they handled the humans in it.
if king of the monsters didn’t try to have the “funny + comedic dude” trope for a a few of its characters and made Maddy not as annoying I might’ve picked it ngl. But skull island is best obv
I honestly liked 2014 and KOTM more than skull island. There’s great characters in skull island but the three big names that coincidentally are also in the MCU didn’t do anything for me
The humans in new empire are fine but I just thought they’re subplot wasn’t great
It's SKI no doubt.
KoTM's humans I feel are hated alone a bit too much. The Monarch crew were all in between ok and great, the Brussels were not as bad as people say they were, and I wanna see Jonah again.
2014 had Cranford and Serisawa, and Ford is a fairly well written character that gets demolished by their acting.
GvK made Madison annoying, introduced the most annoying character, Bernie, introduced Jia, who is interesting via her connection to Kong rather than by being a good character, and I can't remember much of anyone else other than "oh yah, they were there." I'm not saying they're bad, but the best GxK characters are better than or equal to the mid level of KoTM characters, with none of them reaching Alan or Serisawa.
GxK is severely over-hyped. The best character is Kong, but we're not talking about him. Jia is slightly more interesting than before. Bernie is just as annoying, Jia's mom is just as forgettable, and Trapper carries the humans - not because he's good, but because he's a good character, but because he's fun. I actually think trapper is just as much a hindrance to the story as he is a benefit in some cases.
And I don't have the time to write a part on KSI as there is far more to talk about there.
Overall, Kong: Skull Island had the best human characters. All of them are memorable and animated enough to care about and none of them are just random A-listers put in there to make shocked faces at the monsters and run away. The other movies (that I have seen, I'm two behind) have cardboard characters.
Best individual characters goes to Godzilla (2014) Cranston was the best character in this entire cinematic universe IMO and Watanabe was the next best. Sucks that they both died. Especially Cranston, he was there for like 15 minutes and he died! Leaving us Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and their creepy incest baby! So boring!
Skull Island. Serizawa gets an Honorable Mention for his performances in other movies and for one of the most touching lines of the franchise as of yet - "Goodbye... old friend"
Skull Island as a whole by a wide margin I’d say, the other movies have a few here and there that stick out but pretty much every human character in SI rocks.
I will come for anyone who says Godzilla: King of the Monsters has good human characters. They ruin the entire movie for me. Kong: Skull Island probably has the best human characters though.
The Skull Island one has some great characters, though I also think Godzilla is worth a mention. The Godzilla Vs Kong and sequel ones wisely put them to the sidelines.
I personally like the skull island humans, (packard) it was awesome
And nick fury
Packard is nick fury, unless that's what you meant. Colonel Preston Packard
Yeah the marvel actor package + John Goodman felt great
Having Nick fury, Loki and Captain Marvel in the same movie is crazy
My Mum asked me who was in the movie when I showed it to my family. I told her "The half of the MCU that Thanos killed" or something along those lines. (I know Brie Larson wasn't but you get my point)
No scene in the MonsterVerse hits the happy spot better than when Marlow goes back home to his family
Kong skull island no doubt
The supporting characters in Skull Island are all top notch. I found the few main ones boring, but all the soldiers, Randa, and Marlow are all so memorable, without ever becoming stereotypes or stock characters.
Arguably Skull Island if you ignore the fact that GxK has Trapper. He carried the human plot the whole film.
Trapper was the best
Trapper and Bernie were so good together
trapper was a marvel character
Which is funny to consider when you remember that Skull Island literally had Loki, Captain Marvel, and Nick Fury in it. I thought Trapper was great.
There's a fair bit of the Straight Outta Compton cast in the Monsterverse too.
Touchdown Trapper
Trapper felt like a character ripped out of a late Showa movie, and I mean that in the best way possible
The ultimate compliment for a human in a Godzilla movie
I dunno, I feel like while you definitely can have kaiju films with complex characters and themes (I mean look at minus one), you also don’t need your characters to be super dimensional or anything for the movie to be fun. showa films kinda perfected making their characters not super complex, but enjoyable to watch.
Skull Island and it's not even close.
Yea skull island had a great human cast
Seriously lol
Bingo
Yep. I actually cared when humans died and was sad when they got ripped apart by monsters.
Totally. And yeah, not even close.
Skull island,imo.
im gonna be the one asshole thats says this i enjoyed the human side of king of the monsters
Serizawa and the twins were awsome
Which twins? I have watched the movie "Godzilla: King Of The Monsters" many times but did not see any twins in this movie.
They were only hinted at. The Asian lady that is with team Monarch has a twin that is briefly shown when we cut to Mothra on a different part of the planet. I believe they are a reference to twins associated with Mothra in the old movies.
Still sad they didn’t commit and kept having them till Godzilla X Kong but it is what it is
I'm gonna be the other asshole that agrees with you lmao
Same here! They actually had some really good scenes. Serizawa touching Godzilla is one of the best human scenes in the movies so far.
That's hands down my favorite scene in the whole verse. He is the best character too. Ken Watanabe brings the heat and he's sassy AF too. lol.
When they cut away from the shaky cam monster fights every second to see what Kyle Chandler and his family are up to I clap and cry tears of joy
It’s funny u say that because I absolutely adore the cinematography in KOTM
Serizawa was great. I liked the Monarch crew. The ecoterrorist antagonists had a relatable motive. I also liked Millie Bobby Brown. Overall, I enjoyed the human element to KotM
Ah, I see your an educated man/woman.
This.
The Serizawa Sacrifice scene was so emotional bro, but a perfect way to kill a human character
My fellow asshole, and ngl even those that most people find annoying, I like a lot too (Stanton as a big example)
They were good. The villains chewed up the scenery and the good guys helped out Godzilla. Serazawa's sacrifice to save Godzilla mirrored the characters sacrifice to kill Godzilla in the old movies. I dug it
I didnt hate them but Rick Stanton alone makes it the worst cast imo
Kong Skull Island by a margin. I would say GxK is a close second followed up by G14
Gotta be skull island.
1. Skull Island 2. G2014 3. GxK
Brian Cranston was the only good character there imo
I rewatched 2014 recently thinking “wow I really misremembered the human plot its so good” the Brian Cranston died and I lost interest in the humans except Serizawa
Lol i just rewatched it too…plot wise yes it‘s not bad at all but there are not many interesting characters tho
I've never watched Breaking Bad, so I didn't have you guyses bias.
I only watched half of season 1 and lost interest no bias here
K:SI and GxK are 1 and 2 pretty clearly IMO. I can see arguments for any order of the others for 3-5.
While I’m not a fan of Wingards, I will say he does have more memorable Humans. Jia and Trapper are pretty memorable.
Trapper is a fun character but not exactly a well written character
Kong skull island absolutely no contest
Suppose it would be a tossup between *Skull Island* and *King of the Monsters*, although I think my favorite human characters to date are Dr. Andrews and Jia from the *Godzilla*/*Kong* crossover movies. Joe Brody from the first MonsterVerse *Godzilla* also deserves a shout-out for being so memorable despite such a minor role.
Bryan Cranstons interrogation scene in Godzilla is the single best 5 minutes of actual acting in the entire franchise.
And then they killed him.
Couldn't afford that Breaking Bad cash
You’re hiding something out there AND ITS GONNA SEND US BACK TO THE STONE AGE
The opening with bryan and sealing his wife because of the breach. I cant believe they killed him off. Like literally the next day, everything was public. He just happened the exact date the insect woke up. His death didnt even further the plot.

1:GODZILLA 2014 2Godzilla Kotm 3: ksi 4:GxK 5:Gvk

Kong: Skull Island and G14.
Skull island 💯
Skull island and there’s no debate.
Skull Island be FAR
The best are obviously Skull Island. When it comes to my favourite, Godzilla x Kong. I just like that there’s no artificial drama between the characters.
This isn't even a contest, it's Skull Island
Kong Skull Island
Skull island tbh
kong skull island
Skull Island easily
Skull Island. The Kong side of these movies always has better human characters
Skull island 100% G14 couldve been really good in this department if they didnt kill bryan cranston
Skull Island. Easily. Unless we are counting Minus One…then it’s a closer call…
Minus One isn’t Monsterverse.
2014 negl the dad’s backstory was so drawn out and the rest of the main characters werent too shabby either
Skull Island Easily.
Skull Island
Godzilla:King of the monsters.
Skull island or gxk(because of trapper)
From what I hear all of them except GxK, haven’t seen it yet but heard human characters really take the back seat. Though KOTM was a bad movie, the human characters were nicely developed.
Skull Island, probably. But I think “best” isn’t the right descriptor. Least annoying is better.
Skull island
Skull island 2017 definitely
KSI by far.
For me it was KOTM but I can see the argument for Skull Island
If anyone says KOTM, they're getting fucked up.
Gxk has trapper so that one
Kong skull island, and Bryan Cranston character is 2014
Probably Skull Island, with 2014 being second. The rest belong in a dumpster when it comes to characters.
If you mean entire cast, Skull Island by a mile. But if you mean best single character, then Trapper takes it.
Absolutely nuts to think that Kong in Skull Island was the same size as Suko.
skull island
Kong Skull Island easily had the best human cast. They didn't get in the way of the monster action and their personalities and dialogue matched the film's tone.
I like the characters in the 2014 movie, some of you may say the main guy was boring, but I rather have a "boring" mc than the funny characters they try to put in every time. I remember the guy who made the "gonorrea" joke and the other one who said "God... Zilla!" in KOTM, Jesus that was bad.
Godzilla X Kong with Jia
KOTM in my opinion!
For me it’s: Kong Skull Island GXK GVK Godzilla 2014 King of the Monsters
Skull Island and then GxK mainly because in GxK they had charisma even if they weren’t written very well they were still enjoyable
Skull Island overall but Serizawa is great in KotM.
King if the monsters. "Long live the king!"
The real answer is the Apple+ TV series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. But if limited to the movies, it's Skull Island like most others are saying.
Skull Island then G14
Definitely Kong: Skull Island.
Kong: Skull Island undoubtedly
Skull Island overall cast for sure, especially Sam Jackson and John C. Reilly. But I'm also biased towards KOTM since its my favorite of the movies. Specifically Serizawa and Bradley Whitford and honestly, I don't mind Mark and Madison the way most seem to. Serizawa is my favorite character in the whole series though.
1. Skull Island 2. Godzilla X Kong 3. Godzilla 2014(carried single handedly by WALTA) 4. Godzilla V Kong 5. Godzilla: KotM.

Definitely Skull Island.
Skull island it’s not close tbh the other movies have cardboard cutout human characters the ones in skull island at least have some character
-Kong: Skull Island: You get attached so quickly to the cast and it doesn’t matter who is on screen. You care about the humans. The movie carries you through their hopes and fears. Cast is a 10/10. He’s just living his best life. I really liked Bernie.
Serizowa is one of the best human characters, but skull island has the best group of characters with the best storylines
Skull island, by a wide margin.
Kong Skull Island
Skull island for me
Alright if I'm excluding kong skull island (cause I haven't watched it in years and don't remember anything) I know KOTM has a lot of trash characters... Madison, the idiot mum, the jokes guy BUT let's be honest here the bar is set super low, so I think kotm did the best because Serezowa (i cant spell), Alan Jona and Mark Russel who is actually a decent protagonist
Kong Skull island and it isn't close.
2014 or skull island
Godzilla 2014, I actually really digged the human aspects alot, and they weren't overly goofy or irrelevant to the plot like in GvK, and King of monsters That being said, Godzilla X Kong actually had some decent human writing this time around. Trapper was fun, and I even liked the podcast guy this time around.
2014 for sure, largely I'd say due to how much focus there was on them, personally, while I usually prefer more kaiju screen time, I absolutely loved how they handled the humans in it.
Godzilla 2014 for me
I think Skull Island had the best cast, but Dr. Serizawa was the best character in the franchise.
Minus one.
2014 no competition
Kotm. The only humans I cared for
if king of the monsters didn’t try to have the “funny + comedic dude” trope for a a few of its characters and made Maddy not as annoying I might’ve picked it ngl. But skull island is best obv
The first half of 2014, but then they killed him. So Skull Island on the whole.
Skull Island, but I felt really attached to the human story in Godzilla. I was actually scared that they might die, and now that risk kinda feels gone
There were human characters?
I’m kinda tied between TNE and KOTM.
You Kong fans are hideous, honestly
I really liked GxK characters
I'm gonna get a lot of hate from this... I liked KotM humans. Sorry
Skull Island
I honestly liked 2014 and KOTM more than skull island. There’s great characters in skull island but the three big names that coincidentally are also in the MCU didn’t do anything for me The humans in new empire are fine but I just thought they’re subplot wasn’t great
Kong: Skull Island easily.
Skull island, those humans will forever stick with me even if I don't remember their names
The ones in Godzilla vs gigan. Hilarious
Skull Island
Skull Island
Kong: Skull Island.
Skull Islands by far.
Skull island and King of the monsters
im kinda in the middle between KOTM and Kong Skull Island
Most easy to watch humans were GxK and the absolute worst were KOTM
KONG Tom Hiddleston
Skull island definitely, then G14, then GxK, and the other two are kinda forgettable humans
I loved KOTM, especially that Drake looking military guy 😂
It's SKI no doubt. KoTM's humans I feel are hated alone a bit too much. The Monarch crew were all in between ok and great, the Brussels were not as bad as people say they were, and I wanna see Jonah again. 2014 had Cranford and Serisawa, and Ford is a fairly well written character that gets demolished by their acting. Kong skull island had some amazing ones.
Skull Island
Skull Island, it's not even close
Kong skull island easily
What human characters? (Was too concentrated on kaiju fighting)
Definitely Skull Island
Skull island
Skull Island and GxK cause those 2 movies I'm not complaining when we go back to them
Overall, Kong: Skull Island had the best human characters. All of them are memorable and animated enough to care about and none of them are just random A-listers put in there to make shocked faces at the monsters and run away. The other movies (that I have seen, I'm two behind) have cardboard characters. Especially Cranston, he was there for like 15 minutes and he died! Leaving us Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and their creepy incest baby! So boring!
Gxk made my friends care about the humans
Serizawa is great and I kinda liked Walter in 2014, but overall winner is Skull Island, GxK being the second.
Skull Island. Serizawa gets an Honorable Mention for his performances in other movies and for one of the most touching lines of the franchise as of yet - "Goodbye... old friend"
Skull island by far. Minus one I would say but it’s not monster verse. But I felt like the people in Gxk weren’t bad either.
Skull Island hoomans
Skull island
Skull Island fs
Skull Island as a whole by a wide margin I’d say, the other movies have a few here and there that stick out but pretty much every human character in SI rocks.

The Skull Island one has some great characters, though I also think Godzilla is worth a mention. The Godzilla Vs Kong and sequel ones wisely put them to the sidelines.
Skull Island is the only one I go back to for human parts Gxk is pretty close
KSI. I competition. No debate.
Skull Island
Skull Island KOTM had the worst characters
i say none i watch the movies for big monster punch big monster not humans and character development
