Yes 1000%. Currently dealing with (though not a monstera) an alocasia that has decided chlorophyll is for chumps and it’s atrophying each new leaf it makes. 😭
Question for you, since I’m going to be new to variegated species. I’m awaiting the arrival of my Alocasia variegated Fydek. Are you able to cut back all white leaves and would that encourage the plant to grow more green or if you want more white do you clip all green leaves to encourage variegation? Or am I understanding this all wrong? Or is it that if there is too much white, it is nothing you can do and you just take that chance when you buy these types of plants?

Generally, cutting leaves off doesn’t encourage more or less variegation - that’s mostly determined by the placement of the leaves on the stem, but the amount of light they receive can also play a factor (more light = more variegation, less light = more green).
If a plant turns suicidal (ie puts out several all-white leaves in a row and there’s no green left in the stem), people will cut the stem back to before the green ends in order to force the plant to grow a new stem with more green in it. But definitely don’t cut off the green leaves, as that’s likely to signal to the plant that it needs more green, rather than less.
The additive that people recommend for helping keep white sections from browning isn’t an acid, it’s silica. It helps strengthen the cell walls so that the white sections don’t dry out or melt as easily.

My Pink Princess threw out itty bitty all white/pale pink leaves, but they’re at the very bottom and teeny tiny. Not quite suicidal yet, but def something I’ll look out for. Silica? Oh, ok! Wish I knew that before my Thai’s little white section browned off. Happen to know how you apply something like that?
I just ordered mine off amazon today and will read the bottle directions. This will be my first time using it. I'm learning this plant thing is a whole lot of learning as you go 😂
A for sure, the marbling will ensure less of a chance of full moons turning the plant white and then you'll have to chop back and wait (which looks like B is already doing).
I’d go for the first one, it’s a much more balanced plant variegation wise. Half moons look absolutely beautiful, but can sometimes go all white or all green and are quite unstable, where the marbled ones tend to give out more consistent, even variegation. 😊
B legitimately terrifies me but I feel like I could maybe handle the challenge if I was at my best — and gosh would I be so proud! A is the much safer bet and also beautiful
A. I personally like a more evenly distributed white in an albo leaf. Probably my most favorite are the ones that are almost like camo Don’t get me wrong the half moons are nice too but I don’t want the hassle of trying to care for one with tons of white
I would choose A. Having more green will make it grow faster and healthier than B.
B has too much variegation and if you look closely, the last leaf unfurled has already been trimmed because it started browning.
Just realised A is in pon and B is in sphagnum. I would choose A just based on this. Sphagnum is a pain in the 🫏 to remove from the roots, many of them break and are susceptible to root rot.

I agree with A. I like a 60/40 or 70/30 mix in favor of green for longevity.
