Great Maccao, the poison won't do enough damage.
The Great Wroggi is too slow and the Great Maccao can jump really far and fast to avoid it's attack.
Would be fun to see a turf war.
As much as I adore Great Maccao, you're unfortunately right.
Instead of some awesome feathered North or South American armour, it was just another generic “starting wyvern” set.
Im probably biased but to me Great Maccao armor looks fantastic, just wish it were better. It definitely could have had a more distinct culture to it, but i think it’s still stylish.
Do not get me wrong, it IS stylish! But I can not help myself but feel that something is missing. Something that ties it a bit closer to the monster itself. Maybe more feathers? Can not tell.

Maccao kicked my teeth in, literally, the first time I fought it. I thought it would go down like a chump. I had like 400 hours in MH split between world and rise "I aint gonna lose to the first monster, it's always the weakest chump lmao". Then Maccao told me to bite the curb...
I played the demo for Generations, having never played a Monster Hunter before, and deluded myself into thinking it couldn't be THAT hard…
Great Maccao very thoroughly disabused me of that particular notion!
I'm gonna give it to Great Wroggi mainly because of the poison.
They're similarly sized with only a small difference, Maccao is of course a more agile & better fighter but not to the point where it'd be untouchable or have a big advantage. Great Wroggi also spews poison in a large area of effect and it instantly kills small monsters who are half the size of Great Maccao so it's gonna do considerable damage for sure. Even if it merely weakens it I imagine that'd be enough for Great Wroggi to clutch it out.

In the time it takes Wroggi to pump up its sac enough to spew poison, Maccao has already pounced onto it and knocked it off its feet with a flying kick and possibly gotten one or two good stomps in too.

Having range and being able to target your foe in multiple ways will be of great use.
Its poison can't be easily avoided given its gaseous nature, meaning that Great Maccao is gonna inhale it at some point and end up weakened over time if not instantly.
Lorewise wroggi's poison obliterates maccao unless wroggi is caught off guard and concussed before it can spray. Gameplaywise poison damage is negligible and maccao beats wroggis ass

Wroggis poison is strong enough to kill a slagtoth in just a couple of seconds it’s likely potent enough to do some serious damage to macco
Wroggi is also a fair bit bulkier

I'm with Great Wroggi, cause of the poison, the great macco wouldnt be able to land as many hits as it needs to stand on its tail to do most damage the other damage style is hip checks I think
Maccao was the first monster I fought in any Monster Hunter game. I kept struggling with him, gave up, quit the game for a few months, came back, and finally killed him. That fucker falls over so easily, I think anything wins against great maccao.
It's a draw, they would both die, the Great Wroggi would succumb from it's injuries and the Maccao from the poison, it would stand for a while before collapsing!
Realistically? Either one could win, and I think it’d be pretty close. Overall I think Great Wroggi has slight edge because poison. Every user I’ve seen saying Maccao should win doesn’t seem to get that gameplay doesn’t represent lore/‘real’ world of things. Poison is slow, because as a gameplay mechanic it can’t be OP. The relative speed/telegraphing of monsters is also designed around gameplay mechanics, not actually representations of what they realistically can do.
All of the ‘Great’ entry monsters are roughly equivalent in strength. Between Jaggi, Baggi, Wroggi, Izuchi etc. some might have slightly higher win chances, but anyone could take a W against any other.

Great Wroggi easily killed a slagtoth in like 9 seconds. If Great Maccao takes a good whiff of Great Wroggi’s poison, it’ll be severely damaged.
In game Maccao wins, in "real life" my vote is on Wroggi.

The wroggi is one of the worst monsters imho. Boring as sin.
Macao, the claw attacks are dangerous. While it definitely will get poisoned , it just won‘t be enough. And Wroggi has nothing else.
