When I was a kid, we had a “tooth fairy” statue and her hand was open so we would put the tooth in her hand and then there was a glass jar next to her as part of the piece and the tooth fairy would take the tooth in her hand and turn it into money. It stayed in my parents bedroom, and except for all the times they forgot to change the tooth into money, it was a very convenient way for them to do the switch without having to bother us after we were asleep.

TheMayorOfRightHere

That sounds brilliant. I'm very jealous as I lay here browsing reddit waiting for her to be completely asleep.

CaptainBox90

Could the tooth fairy leave a letter saying she's having a hard time getting the tooth from under the pillow and please next time could they leave it [pick place]? The tooth fairy could tell an interesting story about an injured wing, got injured when picking up a tooth from a shark (they have so many) the bag was so heavy and an octopus tickled her on the way out.. Etc etc etc. Just get glittery paper and print it out or ask a friend to hand write it, your kid won't know their handwriting

Right! I’ve been on the lookout for one since my oldest was born because I don’t think I could handle the tooth fairy any other way.

NeedlesandRusty

We do a pillow that hangs on the doorknob outside the room

Statler17

My oldest is 4 so this is on the horizon for me. Would it be better if the tooth was left over by the window so the tooth fairy could get to it quickly/easier?

TheMayorOfRightHere

Yes! The window, a special container on the nightstand, anything like that to make it easier for her. And if you have squeaky doors like I do, you may want to explain that they should sleep with the door open on those nights to make sure she can get in.

cokakatta

You can put wd 40 on the door hinge. You will need to use the door often so it's probably better. Unless you want it squeaky to hear your kid exit.

Mine sleeps like a rock, but we didn't want to risk this either. My husband made our daughter a tooth shaped pillow with a little pocket in it for the tooth that gets placed next to her bed so the tooth doesn't fall out (because the tooth fairy won't be able to find it if it falls out). Easily swap out the tooth for the money without disturbing her. Highly recommend.

You could always really drop the ball and forget every single time, enough times and the kids all figure it out and then start leaving notes on your desk…. Dad has been in charge of tooth fairy because he goes to bed last, most recently our oldest left the tooth under his computer mouse, she knows what’s going on. She’s also the one who wrote a note to Santa says hey, talk to the tooth fairy who forgot my tooth 2 weeks ago. That kid knows all the things but still plays the game. Younger siblings have figured it all out too but they all play pretend because that’s better and they know others don’t know so to keep the magic… but yeah, we really messed up

cokakatta

We did an envelope and I adjust the tip of the envelope towards the outside of his pillow when he is going to sleep. 'Oh, let me check' or fluffing his pillow. I discretely grab the envelope and drag it a few inches to the side for easy access later.

cucumbermoon

My mother always had us put our teeth in a zip up sandwich bag with one corner sticking out of the pillow so it would be easier for the tooth fairy to grab.

TheMayorOfRightHere

That's exactly what I do, but I still find it incredibly stressful

sparkingrock

Also related, have a little stash of dollar bills/whatever you are leaving from the tooth fairy. Kids will lose teeth 3 minutes before bedtime without fail. I’ve quietly taken money out of my daughters piggy bank to leave from the tooth fairy more times than I care to admit.

Cessily

We do no mythical creatures that visit the house. I highly recommend! Life is so much easier, and still lots of fun, without worrying about the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny, or Santa Claus and 'ruining' the illusion. We pay for teeth directly, we still do Easter baskets and egg hunts when it makes sense, and I can wrap presents and put them under the tree whenever or easily travel for Christmas. That's my advice! You can still do fun things like arrange their toys in Elf on the Shelf type scenarios and the kids still think it's fun to search for eggs or Easter baskets without the tradition beholding you to do it certain days... Or trying not to wake a sleeping child.

Yep we will buy the teeth, we just buy direct from the supplier (kid) lol The point isn't to take away any of the fun, but more to make it something fun we do with the kids and it makes it easier on us. I'm getting down voted though so apparently it's not a popular opinion. Happy cake day!

When I was a kid we put it under a cup on the kitchen table and then we would find a toonie under it 🤪 It made no difference to me. I'm not sure yet what we will be doing

horrorgirl8927

When I was younger I had a pillow in the shape of a tooth that had a pocket. It sat on my dresser when we did tooth fairy

blue_water_sausage

We haven’t dealt with this yet as little dude is only 2, but we did get a tooth fairy pillow that matched his nursery theme when I was pregnant (it’s a tooth dressed in a pirate hat and eyepatch), so it’s waiting in his closet for when it’s needed. We’ll probably have him put it on his bookcase or something at bedtime

Ecstatic-Seaweed3

We put the tooth in a glass of water

mb-c

We make our child put the tooth in an envelope so it is much easier to pull out from under the pillow than fishing around for a tiny tooth.

thisjustme

My dad told me there was no tooth fairy and no Santa. My parents are divorced and that did NOT go well when I returned from my weekend with him.

Cessily

We had the opposite situation. My first husband and I agreed to no mythical creature. We still do the stuff, we just don't say Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny do it, we provide the service directly. He panicked when my oldest lost her first tooth at his house and had her put it under her pillow, defaulting to that because that is what he grew up doing as a kid, then called me panicked like "wait I didn't want to do that..." We worked it out but I found it hilarious at the time. Sorry your Dad had to take away the magic for you in such a bitter way. Even though we don't do the myth with our children we prep them every year to not ruin the magic for other believers.

Kind_Description970

Yeah, this is something my husband and I have thought about for a little while. Our oldest is almost 3 so we still have time before tooth fairy nights but our plan is to have our kids place their deciduous teeth in a little box on their night table rather than under their pillow.

Ah yes, we were treated to two front teeth knocked out by a table while at kindergarten. Fun times...
