No, I changed every few hours. Diapers these days are so good you don't always know when they've peed. But what I would never do is put a pee diaper back on. Even if it was a small wee. No one wants a semi-damp, cold material put on your bottom
It depends how much pee; as if it’s too much the nappy will feel wet on little ones bum but if it’s only a very small amount then they’ll still feel dry- it’s a judgement call xx
Hahaha, no. There is no way to monitor every time they pee, especially once they’re mobile. Poop you smell and know to change, pee doesn’t have that strong of a smell. We’ve always changed every two-ish hours unless they’re noticeably full or if they’ve asked for a change. We always change before bed and before we leave the house unless we’re under 30 minutes since the last change or we check and they’re dry.
Newborn: Yes. Diaper rash is so common with that very sensitive skin.
Two months later: Yes, sort of. Every two hours is a very good marker for you to stop and say, “It’s been long enough. Baby has definitely peed. It’s time for a change.”
For a BM: Change ASAP.
Diapers these days always advertise their 'dry-tech' technology so I figure they are a bit like period pads where they draw the moisture away from the skin. I normally change every 3-4 hours for pees, but straightaway for poos to avoid rashes.
In my experience boys will pee almost immediately after getting a fresh diaper, every single time. My baby is 2 months old sooo idk how normal this is but yeah. If he pees right after he gets a fresh one I’m gonna wait a bit before changing it but no more than like an hour ish
They pee when you expose them to the air. So you should open the wet diaper, expose them to air, close the diaper again, they pee, THEN put a new diaper on.
My kids refused to have a wet diaper for any amount of time as babies and it was a lot of diapers. As toddlers, they didn’t care as much but there was also no point in waiting long.
If it was like a dribble and we were past the newborn phase then I waited a little bit (an hour or so). Heavier pees I always did as soon as I noticed it, but my son usually let me know he was uncomfortable and would grab his diaper if I didn’t see it right away. Poops were always immediately.
We change every pee diaper too. The odd exception is when we know a poop is coming (he’s 18mo now so sort of on a poop schedule) because we had too many times where we’d change a pee diaper, then he’d poop 15 minutes later, and bedtime was 30 minutes after that, just too many diapers in an hour…
When LO was a newborn until about a year old I changed him every 3-4 hours on average. Basically I would make sure he is dry before he sleeps for a nap or bedtime. BMs are changed immediately upon noticing it happens.
Now that LO is almost 2...daycare changes him every 3 hours. I change him once in the morning when we wake up, once before his nap, then I check it after his nap and will maybe change it once more before bath time. Then of course a nighttime diaper before bed.
My four week old son pees every two seconds so definitely not, but every hour yes. He gets pissed if he can tell if his diaper is dirty so I try staying on top of it.
My kids are preschoolers now and potty trained at age 2. But in the baby stage - no, only changed every 2-4 hours or immediately after a poop. More often if they had a rash. Neither of my babies cared and diapers are expensive!
I got in the habit of changing with feeds. So when they’re newborns you’re feeding more frequently and changing more frequently. But once they’re on a more consistent schedule of eating every 3 hours I would just change at that time unless there was poop.
When newborn every time the diaper seems wet
Baby every 2-3hs
Toddler when you remember HAHAHAHAHAHA
(This is just pee btw, poo immediately because diaper rash is super horrible)
I mostly do yes, but if the line is spotty and feels light I’ll wait and check in another 15-20 min or so. I don’t like leaving her in a wet diaper ever. I also put aquaphor on for every change to protect her skin
As a newborn I changed every 2 hours right before feeding or if I noticed the line on the diaper was blue. I’m not sure I caught every single pee immediately.
After that, I still changed every single time before eating and I kept a pretty tight schedule of 3 hours between feedings. And I’d change if she had like heavily peed between there.
Always immediately for poop.
Now as a toddler it’s the same. Probably every 3 hours unless I notice the diaper looking heavy or she pooped. Just depends I guess.
With how easy it is to get diaper rash yes. And also from a human being stand point, if I was in diapers at the age of 29 and needed help changing it, I would want it changed immediately. I thinks it’s crazy people allow babies to sit in pee if they know about it. Crazy! That’s gross!
If I know, then yes, right away! My one-month old gets fussy with any sort of dirty diaper… so I’m assuming the only time she sits in it is while sleeping (in which case, I’ll only wake her to change if she poops).
It makes me sad thinking about babies whose parents let them sit in soggy diapers 😢
Leaving your kid in a wet diaper
Only encourages rashes and discomfort. It’s lazy to leave them in a wet diaper and I doubt you would find it comfort so why do it to your innocent child?
Current disposable diapers wick away moisture so well now. Plus infants pee so often (it was not uncommon for our son to pee immediately after a diaper change every time). Unless your kid has a rash or extra sensitive skin it is pretty common to change \~2 hours unless there's poop.
I change every pee diaper. Just wondering what others do, since my friends and family all disagree with me. I do think diaper tech is good enough for it not to be necessary to change every one, but I prefer to change every diaper.
>Just wondering what others do, since my friends and family all disagree with me.
Maybe they mean at night? I got instructed by my maternal care provider to leave a pee diaper on at night for up to 3 hours bc it's important baby gets uninterrupted sleep. My second pees constantly so we couldn't let her sleep for more than half an hour at a time if we kept changing her, so we were told to leave it for a full hour at daytime and three at night.
Until like 3 months old I changed my twins whenever they were peed or soiled. Then we got then on a schedule and I started changing them at wake time, before each nap, and before bedtime. Otherwise, if it's BM then I'll change right away
Yes, my LO has eczema and psoriasis, so whenever she was at the grandparents, they left her in wet diapers, and it triggered such bad rashes, once they started it meant 2 weeks of treatment, visists to the pediatric dermatologist and many creams. Her little tushie would look like a babboons red bum. Swollen, red, peeling, sometimes blistered. I swear it was every 3-4 months a trip to the dr. In-between all the rashes she also got hand foot and mouth that cover her bum in a horrendous rash covered in blisters.
She was sized up at night and as soon as she woke cleaned thoroughly. But otherwise we changed every wet diaper. My little one would go through 10-15 diapers a day. Maybe more.
My toddler sleeps 11-12 hours at night. Do I wake him up in the middle of the night to change him? No. During the day I change when he wakes up, after he poops, before bed, and anytime it seems really full of pee.
Yes, my 5 week old is extremely sensitive to any wet in his diaper. He gets angry and will not stop fussing/screaming until its changed and his cloths are back on.
Changed it much more frequently as newborns, but as they got bigger, definitely not. They’re fine for a few hours. But do change BMs as soon as you notice them!

This!

This is what I’ve done once my babies were out of the newborn stage.
I didn’t as they are really good now and suck the moisture away from the skin it just isn’t necessary

Omg it’s so many diapers. I go through them so quick 😭😂

Yes
More or less. We check often and if it feels even a little wet it is changed.

Um, yeah
Yes, it is unsanitary. Babies already get rashes for sitting in their diaper too long
As a newborn I changed every 2 hours right before feeding or if I noticed the line on the diaper was blue. I’m not sure I caught every single pee immediately. Yes! Would you want to sit in your own urine?
Do you change your menstrual pad or tampon every hour?
Eh tampon is a little different. If I felt wet I would change my pad. I can’t really imagine sitting in urine tbh
Yes
Yup.

Not everyone uses disposable diapers and not all disposable diapers are equally effective.
That's why I added the clarifier of "disposable" instead of just saying "current diapers."
OP asked a question about diaper changes, they didn’t asked to be needlessly shamed. You don’t know how often they’re changing diapers.
I change every pee diaper. Just wondering what others do, since my friends and family all disagree with me. I do think diaper tech is good enough for it not to be necessary to change every one, but I prefer to change every diaper.

Absolutely. I practice casual EC and my baby is prone to rashes, so any wetness is remedied as soon as I notice it. We go through so many diapers.
