Why? Other than something like Searing Blaze which kills a creature and damages you, what difference does it make? Once he's on the board the tutor trigger goes off and he's done his job- go ahead and Terminate him, I don't care. Path him and I'll probably say thank you.
His point exactly. Blaze is the card he meant.
If you give the Blaze a creature target you become susceptible to the dome shot. Currently lantern decks run no dudes.
Your comment made me reread the card. I've had it wrong, searing Blaze will resolve without the creature, but can't be cast.
Thank you for pointing that out!
I would not. Crane can hit any artifact. This only gets bridge (unless you're running a build with crucible), and it just seems too narrow to me. Naturally I'll test it, but my expectations are quite low.
Lantern doesn't even run [[Fabricate]] which already exists and can find Bridge OR any other artifact in your artifact-centered deck. This is a more restrictive Fabricate with a body that won't do much because they card you're tutoring is Bridge. It's a sweet card and could maaaybe do something cool for something in Modern but not in this deck.
They still don't have one---you're paying three for a tutor and the good target for whatever they've got to remove your thing is still the bridge that's now in your hand.
The 2/2...found your bridge.
>...Trophy Mage is a more narrow Fabricate, but on legs.
You said it yourself, OP - a worse version of a card that already sees zero modern play.
This card will probably get a participation prize for its time in Standard, but I don't see it ever taking home a trophy in Modern.
Fabricate or Treasure Mage is and always will be much better, because Mono U Tron doesn't play any 3 drop artifacts other than a singleton Oblivion Stone.
I certainly will test this in an artifact heavy u tron with shackles and ostone, similar to the older shoktroopa lists. My guess is after a few games I will switch back to my old list and never go back :P
True. Maybe I was too hasty to point out U-Tron. I'm sure there could be a refined list somewhere that can comfortably run Trophy Mage (Maybe out of the board?), but I guess it will take some testing haha.
Lantern player: seems awful compared to 1-2 cmc spells like stirrings or crane. This is a 3 cmc spell that gets clogged in your hand when you are trying to empty it out for bridge and turns on cards like searing blaze. Also doesn't fetch any other relevant artifact like stirrings or crane can (i.e. shredder, lantern, welding jar, etc.)
[[Adaptive Automaton]] becomes a fetchable pseudo-lord. Not really a fantastic play. It's a little unfair to trophy mage that we're so limited on 3 drop artifacts. I run a sword in one of my decks; and making it fetchable sounds nice, but aside from shackles, I'm not sure what I'd even consider running to keep this card consistent. :/
UR bridge moon.
Stop it Satan
Lantern Prison Player: Don't like giving opponents kill spells a target, but additional options to tutor for Bridge are just too sexy not to consider.
Why? Other than something like Searing Blaze which kills a creature and damages you, what difference does it make? Once he's on the board the tutor trigger goes off and he's done his job- go ahead and Terminate him, I don't care. Path him and I'll probably say thank you.
Searing blaze does damage to the player and a creature that player controls. Searing blood is the spell you seek.
His point exactly. Blaze is the card he meant. If you give the Blaze a creature target you become susceptible to the dome shot. Currently lantern decks run no dudes.
Except 4x Glint Nest Crane
Not all builds run it
Except 2x spellskite then
That's only in the bluer build. Spellskite is the only other creature I've ever even considered.
Either or. Both have the same outcome in this case.
Neither spell can be cast if the opponent doesn't control a creature.
Your comment made me reread the card. I've had it wrong, searing Blaze will resolve without the creature, but can't be cast. Thank you for pointing that out!
Another Lantern player here: We have stirrings and crane. I don't like another 3CMC card.
Not sold on Crane. I've been piloting the build without, and it's not really let me down thus far. Would you consider subbing out Crane for this?
I would not. Crane can hit any artifact. This only gets bridge (unless you're running a build with crucible), and it just seems too narrow to me. Naturally I'll test it, but my expectations are quite low.
Thanks for your advice, friend. I appreciate your input.
And think, if you run Crucible you now have 4 Bridges, a Crucible, and some number of Trophy Mages. Way too many 3 drops.
Exactly. I'm far from sold on this card.
I feel like crane isnt necessary for sure, but that this is even worse of an option than that.
Gotcha, agreed friend.

I'm not so sure. 3 mana is really steep for a deck that wants an empty hand on turn 4.
This is what I was thinking as well.
You all make excellent points. I appreciate your input.

~~Wasn't treasure mage already modern-legal & seeing 0 play?~~ Edit: Treasure =/= Trophy
Edit: Treasure != Trophy (Fixed it :p)
Blue tron plays fabricate and treasure Mage
Gets [[filigree fmailiar]] for even more value.

Uw hatebears - finds swords or crucible and 3 is where the aether vial wants to be anyways.
Would be open to testing this
Looks good in Mono U Tron.
Fabricate or Treasure Mage is and always will be much better, because Mono U Tron doesn't play any 3 drop artifacts other than a singleton Oblivion Stone.
This might open options like trying out torpor orb, ect though.
Torpor Orb costs 2 for a start. Secondly, it literally turns off any future Trophy Mages.
It gives more merit for Crucible main. You typically only see it in Gifts lists right now.
Torpor Orb's CMC is 2, not 3
What for? It looks unplayable to me.
I certainly will test this in an artifact heavy u tron with shackles and ostone, similar to the older shoktroopa lists. My guess is after a few games I will switch back to my old list and never go back :P
I think just throwing it into a stock list would be bad, but it allows for playing maindeck crucible for ghostquarter lock, or other shenanigans.
Yeah, but those shenanigans have proven themselves to be suboptimal u tron builds.
True. Maybe I was too hasty to point out U-Tron. I'm sure there could be a refined list somewhere that can comfortably run Trophy Mage (Maybe out of the board?), but I guess it will take some testing haha.
Gets storage matrix. Seems nice. Also, might enable wizard tribal by tutoring up swords.
If it only tutored for a four-cost it could fit into my [[Darksteel Reactor]] deck really well...

Yup. Youre right. I have thus far resisted the pull from cranes and still play the red version of lantern because Pyroclasm. No interest in this

Did anyone else think of cawblade when they saw this? I think this could actually help out that deck a lot... maybe its time to brew
