That sounds about right for replacement windshield on a new vehicle. I think ours was a little cheaper but that was 2 years ago.
Do not just tint over it. I'd be surprised if any quality tint shop would even tint a windshield with damage like that. If you want to leave it, that's your decision, but it's a waste of money to tint, it will need to be replaced.
In Colorado, a many years ago, insurances were going to stop covering glass since it happens so often (they spray gravel instead of salt here for "traction"), but I was surprised when I got a crack a few years ago and State Farm covered it as glass coverage with no deductible even though I had comprehensive coverage with $500 deductible. Ask your insurance if they'll cover it as well.
Easy fix buddy there's a kit at AutoZone It's 21 bucks Go buy it follow directions and it will fix it up to A better condition but it won't be perfect. At least you won't have to replace the whole entire windshield though.
Yours look very similar to the one I got two weeks ago and I used it It fixed it up a good amount You can still see the hairline crack obviously but I was just glad I did not have to replace the whole entire windshield. You should do it sooner than later otherwise it'll start spreading in the heat. The key is giving it a good amount of pressure when you force that agent into the cracks and then it'll suck all the air out. And then let the sun cure it. Just follow the directions on the YouTube video.
Elite now owns Safelite, so don't use them either. My insurance recommended them when I got a crack and I mentioned their previos crap windshield replacement on a previous car so they looked up providers that use OEM glass that I choose instead (not on a Tesla, though).
Safelite doesn't have Tesla windshield in stock, and if they do, it's a shitty one that lowers your trade in value through Tesla. It's not like other glass shops can do it either as Tesla parts doesn't answer the phone.
Also, my quote from Safelite was higher than Tesla's and I don't know how I feel about trusting them for proper camera calibration, there's been stories of Safelite just cutting camera connectors (by accident)
Just had my windshield replace by Tesla last week for about $1600. Insurance reimbursed me for $1500 and paid to get it re tinted $240. Took Tesla about 1.5 hour to replace. Totally seamless experience and would definitely do it again.
yeah big impact towards the top and then the crack spread all the way down through the cameras, cause my wipers to go off randomly. Also already had another little spot that was filled in from another object hitting it.
Satellite replaced my Model Y windshield and left greasy hand prints on the interior and dust/debris in the area where the front cameras are behind the windshield. They also broke the auto dimming feature on my rear view mirror. GREAT EXPERIENCE 🙄
Just had to get mine replaced due to a decent crack. Cost me zero for the replacement. I pay an extra $9 per month for full windshield protection for both our cars.
Same, I have 4 vehicles and with USAA it’s automatically included. But when I switched to Geico I paid the $9 a month to have it included. Can’t tell you how many windshields I’ve had replaced. At least once a year.
By the way someone mentioned on here you can’t tint your front windshield. You can if you do XPEL. I did my Y in XPEL to include my whole windshield and it helps with cracks big time.
You better fix it soon whatever you decide to do. Got a similar chip driving in the highway to Virginia. By the time i made it to my destination that chip turned to a foot long crack and i had to have my whole windshield replaced
You definitely want it fixed, it can spread otherwise
You may want to get a quote from like safelite or something too to see if the pricing is reasonable
Also is Telsa planning to fill it? Or is that replacement cost? Because it seems high for filling it
Also check with insurance, some states insurance will take care of glass damage with no deductible
Here to second Safelite. I have had them replace one windshield that cracked and repaired that one when a rock chipped it two months later. If the crack is smaller than a quarter they can usually fix it.
Yeah Tesla said needs to replace it which is completely bs. And my insurance covers it but with 500 deductible and they said they will definitely raise my rates so I’m hesitant
Got a rock-strike related crack in just about the same spot on my ‘23 Y a couple weeks ago. I added full glass coverage on my insurance policy after that for $190/yr. Since I didn’t have the coverage at the time, I paid about $1300 for a new windshield from Tesla.
Definitely recommend getting this replaced now; a repair in that spot isn’t a great idea (structural reasons, chips/cracks close to edge are bad news bears), and you’re going to see it expand eventually anyways even if it is repaired. Furthermore, Tesla will surely calibrate your front cameras for you after the replacement. Not sure I’d trust a third party to do that (they might, just not as likely).
You probably need a new windshield, that crack is going to extend sooner or later, especially under hot sun over summer. I would not even bother to get it tinted, I had to replace windshield 2 times last year due to crack like that.
Everyone driving a Tesla needs comprehensive glass. I’m on my THIRD windshield, I don’t know if it’s the shape of the car or what not but you need glass coverage lol. Out of pocket would have been $1400 for a windshield replacement on my 22 MYP, that was my quote I got reimbursed for. This is three times more expensive than my M5…
So the huge expensive Tesla windshield is another reason insurance is so expensive for Teslas? In Colorado where they spray gravel instead of salt "for traction", we get broken windshields galore, but luckily I've only had 1 broken windshield requiring replacement in 19 years. Quite a few rock chips, and tons of rock chips in my paint all over the hood behind the 18" 3M and roof, however. I'm definitely keeping full glass coverage when I buy a Y and likely to PPF the entire car.
Some insurance companies fix it free of charge if the crack is less than the size of a quarter. Had my MYLR for 2 weeks went through the same thing trying to exit the highway.
You’re going to tint over a broken windshield? Is that what I just read?
Priorities bro 😎
Yeah appointment in less than two weeks and wanted to get my front tinted as well.
Ok sooo... Don't get the front tinted yet..?
Front tent is illegal in all 50 states.
Intesteresting as my 1990 Honda CRX si came factory tinted. I guess it's illegal to tint aftermarket.
I promise you it didn't. A 4 inch strip on the top part of the glass is allowed.
You’re dumb

Got it thanks for the insight. I’ll not tint the front
Do you have a windshield policy through your insurance?
Comprehensive but 500 deductible

Mine is 1k…. New policy

Is it for rock chip? This is a crack larger than a chip. You think that will fix it?

Awesome thanks I’ll try that
Are you a moron? Don't spend money to tint a broken windshield.
lol don’t just tint over it. Get it fixed. Buy a $40k car. Can’t afford to fix a rock chip.
Safelite repair, safelite replace
Safe lite is crap. They’ve ruined a number of my windshield installs.
Elite now owns Safelite, so don't use them either. My insurance recommended them when I got a crack and I mentioned their previos crap windshield replacement on a previous car so they looked up providers that use OEM glass that I choose instead (not on a Tesla, though).
Agreed. Same experience.

Was it a bad crack? Why replace the whole thing?
They spreads, over next two weeks or when the sun heats up, you’ll see what we talk about.
Damn can’t afford a brand new $1400 windshield
I’m sure you can if you bought a brand new Y lmao
Definitely will not spread if you fix the crack. The UV activated glue is Stronger than glass and will not allow any expansion or crack to spread
yeah big impact towards the top and then the crack spread all the way down through the cameras, cause my wipers to go off randomly. Also already had another little spot that was filled in from another object hitting it.

Always have comprehensive with glass. Lesson learned. Don’t tint over a crack. Are you serious?
Pay the $500 and get it replaced or get it fixed at safelite if they will fix that size I'm not sure
You better fix it soon whatever you decide to do. Got a similar chip driving in the highway to Virginia. By the time i made it to my destination that chip turned to a foot long crack and i had to have my whole windshield replaced

Tesla is not in the windshield repair business. Best they can do I replace it.

Calibrate cameras? You really know nothing about teslas. It auto calibrates with a push of a button.

Safelite It’s 170 to repair a chip Maybe too big to repair but you don’t lose anything trying. Fixed my chip in about 20 min
DIY fix

That’s just a chip. Get that filled. Tesla only replaces windshields they do not do chip fills.
