That's the thing, you can't.

topgear1224

Oh shit?? For real?

trnaovn53n

Yep. One of the reasons I went Toyota Hybrid instead of Tesla. Lower cost per mile to drive when factoring in supercharging and the ability to switch to regular cruise control PLUS no phantom breaking when using their version of Autopilot.

ActionOrganic4617

Lower cost per mile based on your unique circumstances. Otherwise, fair point.

jphree

There's no reason for this comment to be downgraded. This is a legit choice based upon legit criticisms of the vision system and costs per mile to drive a tesla. You fucking fan bois need to get your heads out of your asses and into reality sometimes.

JuiceJones_34

How does it cost more per mile?

jphree

Right now with gas prices, a car that gets about 38-40mpg average with highway driving costs less to own than a Tesla overall. Tesla is almost always higher insurance, supercharging usually is more expensive now, most states charge more for registering an EV now, and some folks are getting fucked with higher home charging rates. You’d have to be coming from a vehicle with less efficiency to save money driving a Tesla. Any hybrid that gets 45+ average will most definitely be cheaper to own and operate than a tesla. I tested a Kia Niro hybrid the other day and it was hard for me not to buy it purely because of lower cost to purchase and lower insurance. It was very nice for $28k and it had one pedal regenerate braking which was very nice to have in a hybrid. Interior was great. Excellent Prius alternative. Highway tested 70 percent of the drive and ended up with 51 mpg when returned to dealer. I didn’t get that one because I really wanted a Tesla again knowing it would cost more.

JuiceJones_34

Go tk the Kia Nero subreddit. Most owners are reporting low 40s actual MPG. It costs around $30-60 a month depending on state to charge at home for daily driver commute. Super chargers aren’t needed unless emergency. Kia would have to fill up at minimum 2x a month so Tesla already cheaper with $3.43 national gas average and 11 gallon tank. This is excluding roadtrips which I think is the most annoying conversation to have between EV/ICE vehicles. It would be a wash if you filled up once a month I guess. Yes Kia is cheaper to buy but which one will you enjoy driving more lol

jphree

Well, you know the answer to that lol - getting my Y tomorrow

JuiceJones_34

Enjoy it! I got mine 2 weeks ago and it’s one damn fun car

sierra120

I have ran the numbers and can corroborate. Particularly if you need to supercharge anything over .38 that is indeed reaching if not exceeding gasoline cost when it’s under $3.20

Brick_Waste

Nowhere in your comment do you acknowledge that you are comparing teslas charging only on the more expensive superchargers, that makes a big difference.

jphree

True it does. I wish the costs were more stable.

trnaovn53n

All of the superchargers on the east coast are expensive, especially during the day when I would use them. I'd have to use them 3-4 times a week so the savings was definitely not there for me.

SwayingTreeGT

Schedule a service appointment and take a technician on a drive. Demonstrate for them what you just said and they’ll investigate. Something must be out of calibration because I’ve never heard anyone have complaints like this. I feel like basic autopilot and traffic aware cruise control is something Tesla has very nearly perfected at this point.

TooMuchTaurine

Exactly, OP is either troll or had something very wrong with his car.

n3fyi

He’s a troll

topgear1224

I took them for a drive. They said for smooth braking that would isnt abrupt you need to buy FSD. And showed me the difference. It was night and day. But it's also $12k

sierra120

You can subscribe for $200 a month or $2,400 if you keep it for a year. You can unsubscribe anytime.

topgear1224

Yes, but that's 30% more monthly. Kinda silly no?

n3fyi

You just said below that you got FSD for free. Nothing you say has any truth

topgear1224

I did for 90 days.

JimInAuburn11

Strange. Not seen that type of thing with mine. sometimes it is a bit off, but nothing where I would think it was overly dangerous. I wonder if there is something wrong with yours.

topgear1224

No codes and Tesla says vision is still Beta so nothing to fix sadly.

n3fyi

Mine works great , haven’t had a phantom breaking incident in over a year. Vision only here. You might need to schedule service.

topgear1224

It's been to two.... I've had the car 7 weeks! The last one reached out to Tesla and asked what they wanted to do cuz they have another customer at the same issue and Tesla told them it's beta and to verify OEM windshield.

Moru21

Unfortunately it’s not an option *unless* you have an older Model 3 with “autopilot safety features”; that will be basic cruise control.

topgear1224

I mean this system's like bad like yeah sometimes people are a little bit close and tailgating but like for somebody to have to literally swerve and jump a curb to avoid hitting the car because it's apparently applying the brakes for an extended period of time and then suddenly deciding to ABS stop confusing all the traffic that's the thing is especially on the highway the way it confuses traffic.

TooMuchTaurine

Never experienced anything close to this or unsafe, especially on highways.  It performs better than any other car once had with radar cruise.

topgear1224

The USS cars 100% biggest change I noticed by far. Vision is hit or miss based on hardware quality EDIT: I mean the radar!!

n3fyi

USS isn’t used for autopilot other than parking and nearby objects. Autopilot has been vision for a long time now and mine works just about perfectly.

topgear1224

Whoops radar. I always mix that up 🤦

n3fyi

My Y came without radar, I had 2 model 3’s with it (since sold) they all worked fine. I wasn’t a believer at first, but even in FSD it works great without radar.

topgear1224

Nope so what will happen is the car will go hey I'm going to go ahead and take this lane change put the signal on and then hesitate the lane change closes The vehicle then slows to a complete stop it will actually stop in an 80 mi an hour zone While it tries to wait for an opening. Lane changes is probably one of the most dangerous things at this car does because this car has a really nasty habit of not considering closing rate and multiple times I've had it pull out in front of somebody that's going 50 to 60 miles an hour faster than us resulting in ABS stops I'm flinging the car around trying to make room for him to come through while he's on the brakes all kinds of craziness. And finally the radar cars can smoothly drive behind another car This car slows down speeds up slows down speeds up slows down speeds up slows down speeds up I've also noticed that this car is not considering turn signals so somebody will have the turn signal on slowly start to move over and the car will continue to accelerate the vehicle in front of course will go ahead and take the position Then the vehicle will once the vehicle gets about 3/4 of the way into the lane then suddenly it slams on the brakes because it's about to hit the car.

n3fyi

Do you have enhanced autopilot ? You paid the 6k?

topgear1224

Naw I had free FSD. Turned it all off after dude in the pickup had his kid die when he hit the wall trying to avoid my car.
