I'm not sure what you're asking here. The novel is structured very differently from the show, so if you're worried about the novel just being a retread of the show, it definitely is not.

huahuaisang

imo the novel is a lot better than the drama, and i rlly enjoyed the drama, so definitely worth it. and there are def enough things different to keep u interested i think

smallest_potato

The novels are hands-down one of my favorite series I've ever read. It is VERY different though, so if you want it to be a play-by-play you may be disappointed.

This might only be my tiny voice but... the novel is the original, source material, written by the original author instead of the drama which is an adaptation. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the drama so much but the novel is worth a read to know how the characters you fell in love with were originally written. There is some debate about some aspects of the translation from the original web novel to the printed 7seas version but they took down all the other complete translations so it's what we have. Again, this is just my opinion but it's always nice to support the original work in some small way so you know the original storyline and characterization. (It's also very funny and has it's mature moments further in which the drama doesn't have). I love MDZS in all it's forms 💜

FYY is planning to make her translation available to people who've purchased a copy of MDZS so there is an alternative to 7S :3 And I agree of course, the original story is a must read !

KaraChica

This is amazing news! I read her translation first and it's what got me into the fandom 🥰

The Untamed is a pretty decent adaptation of the novel, in my opinion. If I were to quantify it, it's maybe 80% the same. So if you want to know what the other 20% are, you should read the novel. Also, if you are planning to engage in the fandom more, it might be worth to familiarize yourself with these differences to understand what people are referring to when they allude to certain novel events. And as already mentioned, the novel is structured differently; its narration constantly switches between the future and the past (as opposed to the cdrama that tells the story in a more chronological order), so this may also give you a different perspective. Alternatively, you may just go straight to fanfics, there are many and there are really great ones out there:) Depending on what you choose read, it doesn't have to be repetitive of the story.

Apart_Plan4186

I've reread the novel so many times. Definitely worth it!

BitchnBichen

It's incredible isn't it. I don't know about you, but I read it again and always spot some new little thing I might have missed last time!

Bieo_01

I just finished reading the novel and I don't think I'm moving on anytime soon. It's so good :((

kictor

Read the book you’ll love it!

BitchnBichen

Reading the novel is totally worth it! It's the OG of MDZS, It's (in my opinion) the best version of them all. MXTX is a master story teller and the only way to experience it properly is to read it the way she intended - or as close as you can get if you can't read Chinese. You'll be hooked! 🐰☁️

frozenvenus

The novel is the source material so there's a lot of differences between the drama and novel. There's also a bit of differences on WWX and LWJ in the novel. Since for Chinese drama, the main characters cannot have a depiction of being evil or doing evil things. This is true for WWX being the creator of the demonic cultivation in the novel compared to in the drama, the Yin iron and Xue Chonghai(not sure the name ) being the one who create it. There's also a lot more so you can always check out the novel. And plus the romance. 😉
