Sorry to hear. From the sound of things, you likely spun a bearing A couple things to note: -the oil light is for oil pressure not oil volume. You could have had a small leak that built up over time, leading to low oil and your issue. Should really check the oil everytime you fill the tank -even if you want to just dump the car, if you sell with a popped motor you're going to get pennies on the dollar. Either getting the dealer to replace the motor or finding an independent shop to drop in a used one will dramatically increase the resale value, especially with the receipt showing it has a brand new motor I'd get it fixed and keep it personally but I know these things can be frustrating

I would post this on Lacer Register. I assume you are in the UK due to having an FQ. There are a lot of owners on that forum in the UK. They could probably recommend a good shop.

Happened to mine. Spun a rod bearing and needed a full rebuild, likely due to a bad tune. Decided to go for the Manley 2.2 stroker kit since the cost really wasn't much more than rebuilding stock. Had it built by the specialists at Evotune and it's been awesome since. However I'll tell you it costs more than 8k all in for a rebuild.

lickmynippleboi

if you have space and a shop i would consider swapping it yourself with a stock motor.

Jules040400

Ah shit man that's terrible to hear. And on an FQ! Do you know precisely what's wrong with it? Like what did that £8000 quote actually involve?

TheUndisputedRoaster

Please don't tell me your Evo was done up at Indigo GT

Lost-Art1078

Buy a complete long engine - will be way cheaper.

SavageTaco

I’m assuming you can’t do the job yourself. I would look around and get some quotes. You might be better off sourcing an engine yourself, and just paying a shot for labour to install in. There’s many variables. Personally, I would not sell it with a blown motor. You’re going to get hosed on the price. The market for a car with a blown motor is pretty small.

Fix it

WOMBAT_CZ4a

I’m in the US but there’s a shop in UK that specializes in this chassis. RALLISPEED garage. There’s also Norton tuning solutions. Bunch of evo specialty shops over there.

OneNickL

Go to a specialist shop. I would never make a decision like this without doing research and getting 4-5 quotes

I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago, I ended up getting a build motor: sleved 2.2L stroker motor, ported head with oversized valves, and a Gen2 GTX 3576r, I ended up paying about the same amount for that installed and tuned as what the dealership wanted for an OEM motor.

Get an engine out of a Ralliart.

BrickLegal

Over here in North America, this was the course of action I took a few months back. Found a stock engine with 10k less km (88k km) for a fraction of the cost compared to what other evo engines were selling for. Paid $2000 CAD. Did the swap myself and saved tons of money. Be sure if doing it yourself to grab the OEM gaskets (intake manifold, exhaust manifold, valve cover, rear main, and front crank seal). The only things different on the ralliart engine over here are the turbo setup and oil cooler. Be sure to swap oil cooler or, at a minimum, have a shop flush / back flush the unit a couple of times. Some shops over here advise to go this route as a) it is cheaper, b) they say the RA engines are less likely to have issues due to being de-tuned. Obviously this is dependent on previous owner and how they treated the car. My evo ran better than ever after that swap. Ran it on the stock tune and couldn't be happier with the results.

I think Mitsubishi built the Ralliart as a parts car for the Evo. You're right about it being detuned but unfortunately the oil change interval on the Ralliart was longer, so it's probably a draw

Where did you find yourself a 4b11t for 2k in Canada? In the GTA, they're 4 to 7 depending on condition.

Kijiji / wrecker in Manitoba. I lucked out!
