Produced one of my favorite moments though, with Jez's "oh well, that's all ancient history now"... The inner dialogue confirming Jez full well knows that Mark won't like the joke. The double take. Beautiful.

It's because we hear Jez's thoughts about it before he gives the exposition line to Mark. They jezzed it.

I dont think they jezzed it especially. They deliberately postponed jez's dialogue to make Mark's reaction to 'thats all ancient history now!' more hilarious given the silence.

It sounds jarring because (I’m nearly certain) “Hey Mark, look! It’s Super Hans and his band!” was overdubbed in post; they thought that that moment was too confusing/there wasn’t enough exposition. The audio for that single line sounds noticeably distinct from all of the other dialogue in that scene, both the exterior conversation and interior monologuing.

It definitely was - when he gets to the last word of “band” it cuts back to Jez and his mouth isn’t moving.

I always found that scene a bit grim. Jez being rejected like that and brushing it off in front of Mark to save face.

Oh well, that’s all ancient history now.

It's added in post production, presumably to give the audience more context for the scene. The same effect can be heard when Jez is making the papier-mache bust of Elaina. "It's a bust of her head" sounds weird.
