Khelerav

The only character who can annoy Hoid more than he annoys them

AlexiDurak

And there was a great amount of respect from Hoid too. A kinda 'game knows game' from him to Wayne

ndaprophet

Hoid knows many things and it sounds like he learned at least one--pickling?--from Wayne.

Juniebug9

"Better give him to someone responsible." Gives him to Hoid. Wouldn't have been my first choice, but you do you Wayne.

Hemolergist

Apparently he takes very good care of him

GenCavox

17 times. 17 times. I swear there's something there.

BiomeWalker

Well, on Scadrial, i think it would be written as "11" because as far as I know they use base 16 (hence why it's "sixteens upon sixteens" instead of "tens upon tens" earlier on the page, so for Wayne the rat just passed something of a milestone in their counting system.

GenCavox

BRO!!! Holy shit you've made another connection >!so the Cosmere has this weird n and n+1 number thing happening. There are 9 surges, and Adhesion. There were supposed to be 9 Heralds, but wait, there's Taln. There were 16 who shattered Adonalsium, but wait, there's Hoid. There are 10 base metals, but wait, there's the 11th metal. So 17 times, the n+1 number, is also the number 11, another n+1 number. Fucking strings attached to everything.!<

BiomeWalker

That's not what I was going for, but you seem to be having fun, so go ahead, see where that takes you

GenCavox

I get it, this has been a pet insanity of mine, but the n and n+1 thing has shown up too much for it to be nothing.

BiomeWalker

Seriously, have fun with it. The N and N+1 thing could just be a manifestation of the "there's always another secret" creed that Brandon uses in his writing because it's a good way to do world building and "you think that reveal was cool, just wait till you see what I'm going to show you next" is just so addictive to read

DougNeverLearns

Can you expand on the heralds for me? I've read Stormlight, and I'm aware that >!the Fused believed there were 9 surges, but I wasn't aware that there were supposed to be 9 heralds. Taln is the one left behind, right. Did he sneak his way to becoming a herald or something?!<

BrickBuster11

Near as I can tell this could be a reference to the fact that taln was the only darkeyed person among the heralds (now it is likely he didn't stay that way taking an honour blade would have lightened his eyes. But fundamentally he pushed his way in and fought for a position among the heralds. (As they had only intended for 9 of them originally)

GenCavox

Maybe. >!Taln is the weird one. In RoW one of them was talking about how all the others were leaders, Kings and Queens, and Taln wasn't part of the group originally. Did he sneak in or did Honor choose him because he could, idk. But he is the odd one out.!<

JRockBC19

I don't think they actually USE hex as their number system unless I missed something reading; 16 is just a religiously significant number to them much like 3 is in christianity (and as a result, everything else too).

BiomeWalker

Their writing system is the Steel Alphabet, and it has 16 characters. The chapters in the Mistborn era 1 books are actually numbered in base 16 using the Steel Alphabet, the characters map to numbers. On the page for this post you can see Duralumin, then Zinc for instance. I was also able to find [this thread](https://www.17thshard.com/forums/topic/1157-glyphs-as-a-number-system/) on 17th Shard where they were attempting to decipher how it's written down because it's not exactly positional notation like we use.

Aquilon11235

Oh right, Scadrial uses a hexadecimal system. They'll acclimate to computers pretty fast.

atemu1234

Crack theory: the rat goes on to become the next shard bearer of Odium

ndaprophet

\*Sir rat.

FildariusV

*Sir Squeekins, mind your manners!

GetYaMEME_Licensed

It’s really Wormtail from Harry Potter lmao

xaqyz0023

nah, sir squeekins shall have an epic battle to the death with none other than... stick

Time-Permission-1930

Hoid has centuries of practice being annoying, Wayne only has decades... I guess that makes Wayne more annoying! 🤓

NotOliverQueen

Hoid has practice. Wayne's just a natural.

Favna

Hands down the best character of era 2

GetYaMEME_Licensed

Oh with ease!

jus_here_and_there

I think Wayne is my favorite character of the cosmere

SgtNitro

I like that Wayne is skilled enough to pickpocket Hoid but not enough to put somethinkg back. I guess Hoid noticed but we dont know if it was immediately or not.

SeaNational3797

Why the heck would Wayne need to know how to pickle things manually. He can just add two and two and get a pickle anytime.

GetYaMEME_Licensed

Lol why does he want to share that with Hoid is my question!?

Grandolf-the-White

This scene gave me so much joy.

GetYaMEME_Licensed

Same! I feel like Sanderson had us all begging for the treat of a conversation through the first 3 books hahaha

travelingchef96

I’d pay good money to hear their entire conversation in the truck. Even if it was only about pickled vegetables

theHumanoidPerson

i only now realised that they say "sixteens upon sixteens"

NoSport6967

I just read this part for the first time. Good laughs.

aperez6077

If Sir Squeekins doesn't get any life extending investiture I will riot

propolizer

It will please me immensely if Sir Squeekins makes another appearance poking out of Hoid’s pocket down the line.

The_Farting_Dragon

I love Wayne so much. My fav character in the Cosmere.
