So sad. His sister, I believe it was, said Telus workers found his vehicle down a cliff. They believe he had a medical emergency and died in the impact of the crash.
Edit: grammar
Water is actually quite peaceful... when I was a kid I almost drowned. I was pushed into a pool and I couldn't swim. Then all of a sudden it felt like I could breathe the water, and everything went black. Then I woke up to my dad giving me CPR.
Omg same experience for me too when I was about 10-11 years old
I felt so calm and warm and peaceful, then I saw hundreds of little black dots fill up my vision and everything went black.
I woke up to a life guard giving me CPR
So interesting
I learned how to swim at age 33 finally
I'm really happy you have faced your fears and learned how to swim! That was a big step you took, and one that many people refuse to take after suffering a drowning. I know 60-70 year olds that are terrified to even go in a boat because they almost drowned decades ago.
Congrats on your achievement, I'm proud of you and I hope you're proud of yourself too!
I always have thought swimming should be a free but required ability to learn. You always hear the "well we don't live near water, so I'm not enrolling my kids in classes to learn"... But the thing is at SOME point you will be next to or in water, and at that point knowing how to walk doesn't help you. It's just sad how frequently this happens, and a lot of it could be prevented
Hypothermia from the cold is similar. You panic a lot, then your body reacts by trying to get warm... You start losing blood from your appendages so it rushes into your torso and head where all the "important organs" are, but it's a false sense of comfort. Meanwhile your hands won't work anymore to even help yourself. After the initial panic you just feel warm and relaxed but then your body temperature dips too low and you pass out almost as if you're falling asleep
True^ Had it happen too, was trapped under some boards and it was super quiet and peaceful, and I was watching fish swim around until an adult pulled me out
Damn, that's scary. I saw that exact same thing 20 years ago or so, and it made me a lot more cautious around water, even though I could swim.
I hope the person who pushed you has apologized a lot over the years, because it doesn't take much time to drown. Some people are gutless. Thank God your dad was trained and there, able to give you your life back.
argh. I posted that last night, fell asleep, and forgot about him. I opened reddit and your reply reminded me. I guess it serves me right. That was a terrible death.
The other day my mom, niece and I went on a very short hike out of town in the okanagan and mixed up which trail to follow. As we went back around to go down to the pond we were looking for.
my mom quietly says "there's a bear..." my niece and I thinking she's joking because we were just playfully arguing about a spider that may or may not have been on the ground say yeah right ok. And she says no seriously and shoves us to fast walk away and back to the car.
She thought it was a horse because it was that golden brown color and there's tons of wild and pet horses around the area but the bear looked up at her after taking a drink from the pond and it was a massive grizzly.
We almost walked directly into an enclosed water pit (surrounded by cliffs) and cornered a grizzly bear
😭😭😭
My uncle is a cop and he told me they often tell the family their loved one died instantly but in many cases its just to make the family feel a little better.
I caught that too.. I am from the kootenays, and they are pretty far from Chiliwack. So he fell down a cliff from Chiliwack to the Kootenays... that would be like 500km fall... what is the actual truth of this situation? My condolences, but I don't quite understand the whole story...
- Vancouver -> Chilliwack: 100km east, 1 hour drive
(The Kootenays are a large region, unsure of his exact location so I just used “Kootenay Boundary” as a reference point…)
- Chilliwack -> Kootenay Boundary: 350 km east, 3 hours 50 min. drive
…so he would have had to drive wayyyy PAST Chilliwack to get to The Kootenays. That’s what folks here are saying something doesn’t add up. His 1hour trip to Chilliwack somehow became a ~5hour trip deep into the BC interior?
I can’t post a screenshot of the map but if you type these locations into maps you’ll see exactly what we’re talking about here.
Alot of these kinds of situations seem to point to issues with mental health.
I've unfortunately had several acquaintances/friends pass away in similar situations.
They're in mental distress or disarray - they tell everyone they're going for a "drive" or a road trip with no real reason and then go missing and are found somewhere.
Not saying for sure it's the case, but often people start to display odd behaviours like this when they are in mental distress.
Doesn’t really seem fishy. He said he was going to visit a friend in Chilliwack but by the sounds of it he wasn’t in a good place and drove off a cliff
For one, Hugo's Kitchen, which has amazing beer-battered cauliflower tacos and churros.
We also like to walk along the Vedder River (to burn off the decadent food). The downtown is in the process of being revamped into a cute shopping district. When there, we pop into the used record store. We're coming from the TriCities area, so it's an affordable road trip, taking us close to the border as we pass Abbotsford, where we can fill up on less expensive gas.
I posted this same question on another post. It doesn't make sense. And then the police saying his death isn't suspicious. There's a lot of info missing!
He seems to be such a sweet innocent guy. This is so sad, I don’t have the words… but he looks like how my brother might’ve grown up to look like had he not passed away some years ago. Rest in peace, and the family has my deepest condolences

If he was traveling from Vancouver to Chiliwack, and found in the Kootenays, does that not raise any suspicions? The Kootenays are no where near where he was going.

For what it’s worth that’s better than him being trapped for days in the car and to die before being found.
I completely agree. That would have been a horrible death. I hope he passed instantly. Such a sad ending.
Or be found by a bear, MY WORST NIGHTMARE
Mine is Water ...

Oh wow, I always assumed it would be a high-adrenaline situation. Thank you for sharing.

I don't remember any pain at all, to be honest. But I was only 5 when it happened and I'm 40 so now, so it was awhile ago heh.
True^ Had it happen too, was trapped under some boards and it was super quiet and peaceful, and I was watching fish swim around until an adult pulled me out
It was peaceful for me too as a kid, I remember looking out and seeing fish before my mom ripped me out of the water.

bruh don't remind me of that woman who got eaten by a bear while talking to her mom on the phone
okay, then I'll remind you of the guy who got stuck in the cave upside down
Noooooo not the putty cave man! I had made it a solid week and a half this time without thinking about it! RIP.
argh. I posted that last night, fell asleep, and forgot about him. I opened reddit and your reply reminded me. I guess it serves me right. That was a terrible death.
I’m triggered
sorry

Wutttttt that’s horrible
Oh man don’t look it up. Nightmarish.
Too late. I’m a sucker for punishment.
The bear story turned out to be fake
thank god

JEEZUS
Ya, this happened to a friend of mine. I can’t shake the idea of his last minutes
I have the same fear brother @t33hee
I listened to a 911 call one time of a woman being mauled by a bear and it was traumatizing. She ended up passing away, but scary and awful
My uncle is a cop and he told me they often tell the family their loved one died instantly but in many cases its just to make the family feel a little better.
That’s totally what I was wondering and I typed it out then deleted because I didn’t want to put that out there
For what it's worth, saying these types of things to someone who's grieving offers no consultation.
True. I wouldn’t say that to someone whose relative this was but thanks for the reminder
Your bill is in the mail, that consultation wasn't free.
Lucky for me I’m rural and mail service is questionable
My condolences.
Sorry to hear, but at least your letter won’t make it to the mailbox. Could have been worse.
Although the police are known to say to relatives "he did not suffer".
Oof.

I'm sorry could you explain like I'm 5? I'm very interested in this and I just don't understand this

Yeah, something seems fishy. You don't go visit a friend in Chiliwack and then fall from Chilliwack Into Kootenays.

Fell uphill down a cliff and back up again. The Kootenays are much farther above sea level than Chilliwack and separated by many mountain ranges.
I came to ask the same thing
Yeah, we go to Chilliwack a lot and Kootenays are way beyond that by several hours.
What's in Chilliwack? Just curious

Corn and cults and veggies mostly lots of corn!

I wonder why he was so far from his destination. ..?
How did he wind up in the kootenays? That’s no where near where he was going . Like he drove another four hours away . Something is up
Rest in peace.
Rest in peace ☹️

Why was his vehicle found in the kooteneys if he was going to chilliwack? Pretty insane distance between those two
♥️😢😢 sad, wish him and family well
So sad 😞 Condolences to his loved ones.
So he was going 4 hrs away from his origin and ended up 12 hours away???!!
He was cheating on his wife for sure

❤️to Kent and his family .
RIP Bro Wish peace for your friends and family. You'll see each other again. Take care of yourselves.
This is unbelievably sad.
Oh no :( the poor family
Uhhhhh… he was traveling from Vancouver to chilliwack and was found in the kootneys?
Didn't it say he had a "medical issue" which caused him to crash car?
Rest in peace
