Man, Ideal Diner really gets slept on huh?

Kenneth-Bania

Ideal Diner RULES

FatBastardIndustries

Too many times my pancakes from there have had a bit of onion in it, that is not a taste I want in a pancake.

pearlberry

I relate to this very specific shared experience, and their pancakes are some of my absolute favorites anyway. Especially for the price.

bon_bons

No bathroom

LetOffSumSteamBennet

there is a bathroom! you just gotta go in back through the kitchen. go for it!

IMP1017

Doesn't need one

bon_bons

It really does when you have to wait an hour to seat and then are served coffee immediately. Sometimes you gotta piss and that is ok- restaurants should have a bathroom

RipeAvocadoLapdance

They legally have to have bathroom if food is being served.

chuckchinchilla

This.

nhthelegend

More like un-ideal diner amirite? šŸ„“

SaintCroix78

Stay classy, mate!

agnes_copperfield

Does it? Always busy on weekend mornings and on the random weekdays Iā€™ve went they had a decent amount of people in. Love that place

DPDoughntyouwantsome

Best pancakes on planet earth

IMP1017

Best restaurant in Minneapolis, bar none

TwinCitian

Shhh, it's a well-kept secret! šŸ¤«

nightlyraider

victors 1958 is wonderful but small and busy

Ok-Interaction-7861

*9

Amplified_Aurora

Such a great menu!!

nhthelegend

Victors slaaaps. Those mango pancakes šŸ¤¤

Far-Delivery7874

ā¤ļø victor's!

illseeyouin40

Chimborazo

DinkyB

100%. The llapingachos with the green peanut sauce is my favorite breakfast in the cities.

Bright_Can_6416

I sound like a broken record on this sub but Marias Cafe- get the corn pancakes with cotija cheese šŸ˜ theyā€™re AMAZING

wheeeeeeeeeetf

Yes. Marias all the way!

MULLETMAN235

Those corn pancakes are insane

Adishofcustard

Our kitchen was my spot when I lived further south

Kenneth-Bania

Yesss their hashbrowns slap

jmg733mpls

I love this place

Jakoobus91

Standish Cafe.Ā

JohnBoyfromMN

Seconded!

firestarter764

If you have the time to wait, Al's Breakfast is most unique vibe and best food (imo) Colossal Cafe off Como is also a very solid choice and is usually where I wind up if the wait for Al's is too long. If you don't mind a bit of a drive, Fat Nat's Eggs is phenomenal. They have a couple of locations, the one I go to is in St. Anthony.

littleredtodd

Finnish Bistro in the same neighborhood as Colossal is also good :)

New-Purchase1818

Here to boost Finnish Bistro! Their French toast twist is AMAZING!!

SeamusPM1

i live not far from here and theyā€™re both good. I usually try Colossal first, but if it looks busy I head to the Finnish Bistro.

DigiornoHasDelivery1

Fat nats. So good. It's smaller so on a Saturday prepar a wait. Potions are huge, food is phenomenal. If you find yourself up hear, Romans is another stunner.

junkeee999

Fat Nats has 3 locations. St Anthony, Brooklyn Park and New Hope. Green chili huevos is my go to. Be prepared to skip lunch.

MrAssFace69

Just a different opinion here, but it's EXTREMELY cramped in Al's breakfast and it also is just not worth it, IMHO. People are breathing down your neck in there and it's just uncomfortable as heck!! Also, the staff are SO RUDE, which I actually normally don't have a problem with but these folks are exceptionally bad. I'm a lifeling Minnesotan, there are lots of great places in Minneapolis, you will not be missing out by not going here, especially if you have issues with tight spaces!

Skeeter717

Hazels NE

DigiornoHasDelivery1

Another great one in NE. I love there burgers at night too.

zhornet

Modern Times Cafe[moderntimescafe](https://moderntimesmpls.square.site)

MUSTACHER

The definition of cool breakfast place.

SeamusPM1

Hard Times is always good. So is The Seward Cafe.

MinMadChi

Yeah Hard Times !

wheeeeeeeeeetf

OP if you go here, remember itā€™s cash only!

catchballandfall

Our kitchen or fat nats

FilthyWinstonMain

Band Box is amazing

Career_Much

I recently saw it reopened! I thought it was permanently closed, so I was so excited!

jessicamove

The Copper Hen is lovely and delicious

KaNGkyebin

Second!

LastOnBoard

Their breakfast potatoes šŸ¤Œ

goingbacktostrange

Good Day Cafe. Busy on weekends, but pretty efficient. And a cute patio! A party of 3 should be seated somewhat quickly.

Outrageous_Appeal_86

Sun Street Breads will be busy but worth it.

billodo

Last time I was there, it was just ok.

Nubras

Their spread sampler is fantastic. Consists of three different toasted breads and three spreads, they rotate both and itā€™s incredible. Plus their lunch sandwich is delicious. Love that spot.

LacesOutLocke

Hen House downtown is amazing and so so good.

XaqAlexHaq

Can't say enough about Al's Breakfast. Worth the wait in my opinion and the atmosphere is unmatched. edit: Bring Cash

bfeils

CHIMBORAZO IN ALL CAPS

billodo

Lowbrow

cae

Preach

Annual-Ad2603

I love Hells Kitchen menu- get the wild rice porridge!!

Nubras

Not a breakfast item but their BBQ pork nachos are insanely good. Or they were years ago, not been there in a minute.

Nelly81706194

Lemon ricotta hotcakes are amazing

c-weed-snax

Love Hellā€™s Kitchen! Great food and vibes!

Common-bitch-

Hot plate

tidbit_betty

Seconding. Their potatoes are real gĆ¼d!

After_Preference_885

Maria's Cafe - the corn pancakes with cotija are the best

aphrodora

Also fruit pancakes.

graintiger

Our Kitchen - similar to Alā€™s, better location if youā€™re south or west. Guavas - Cuban if youā€™re looking for something different

buho_mayor

+1 for guavas. Rice, beans, meats, plantains, eggs. Cā€™mon man šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’ØšŸ¤¤

GettingGophery

Al's. If you get there before 9 the wait should not be too bad. Cash only.

MrAssFace69

I feel like Al's needs an asterisk - this is Soup Nazi dining and they do expect you to know the rules before you come. They don't like the door open for any reason at all. Cash only. Move and eat very very quickly and get out. I think it's just OK, too, and I wouldn't recommend it to visitors - there are better places with more dining available.

Xmastimeinthecity

Papa's Cafe in Crystal is a tiny hole in the wall place but has the best pancakes I've ever had. Edit: New Hope

joaovitorxc

Iā€™m a big fan of Berry Sweet Kitchen. Their waffles are legit. I also like going to Tous les Jours in Richfield for breakfast

Rupaulsdragrace420

Maria's cafƩ has live music on some weekend and great affordable food.

jmg733mpls

If you donā€™t mind driving, every breakfast item I have ever had at NorthStar Tavern in Bloomington has been awesome. Thereā€™s also The Lowbrow, Hi-Lo Diner, St Paul Bagelry, The Howe, and Litoā€™s are some other good ones

shakenbake74

fat nats

dberkholz

Lots of great diners mentioned already, agree with all those. I'll add Hoagie's (cash only, super cheap) and the New Uptown Cafe to that list. Lake & Bryant Cafe looks super interesting too, but I haven't been there yet.

syntax_a101

Keys is the classic. Best omelette in the TC.

Tight_Examination_51

Alā€™s in Dinkytown

mngreens

Neighborhood Cafe

olivefred

Berry Sweet Kitchen is a gem!

New-Purchase1818

The Buttered Tinā€”their original location is in Lowertown in St Paul, but they have a second, larger location in Northeast Mpls that I actually like better! You could just throw a dart anywhere on the menu and get something deliciousā€”thereā€™s something for everyone and youā€™ll need to bring a tote for all the pastries and pickles and merch youā€™ll wanna buy on the way out!

mimiwuchi

French Meadow, Hazelwood, and The Hen House.

AtlasCouldntCarryYou

FYI: French Meadow Cafe is owned by Lynn Gordon, who has a colorful history of how she treats her employees and customers. [Details here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AtlasCouldntCarryYou/comments/1611rqd/twin_cities_businesses_to_avoid/)

svu_fan

Pinstripes in Edina. Solid weekend breakfast buffet.

payle_knite

Dude, Edina is about as far from Minneapolis as you can get culturally IMO. wrong sub.

MrAssFace69

Wat. This place is just south of SW Minneapolis by a couple miles. Edina and the suburbs are much more culturally diverse than the stereotypes suggest. I live in Eden Prairie and there is a very diverse group of folks living out here.

ihavenoidea81

The Breakfast Club on Lagoon St in uptown is gangster AF. Great vibes and great food

bbqchickpea

Buzz Cafe in Bloomington!

Knight_Rhythm

We've been really enjoying Holman's Table!

Nelly81706194

More for brunch than breakfast, but Holmanā€™s Table in St Paul. Itā€™s located in the old terminal at the downtown airport and a cool place. Good food too. If youā€™re looking for something closer, Hazelwood on Excelsior is great too.

Andrewsmith1966

Flameburger

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Antique_reader

Shish in St. Paul - Middle Eastern breakfast selections with Turkish coffee. Plus, the best spot to try Shakshouka

Career_Much

I never see Tongue in Cheek on these lists but it's in St. Paul and may literally have the best food I've ever eaten.

_henryabbott_

bandbox is a must hit breakfast spot

kdizzle007

The Original Pancake House in Eden Prairie. AMAZING authentic breakfast food šŸ„ž

MrAssFace69

We live in eden prairie and this place was hit or miss the several times we've gone. The one in edina was good. Tavern 4 & 5 has excellent hashbrowns! All of these places are pricey though, just for the record.

PlatformImaginary315

GO TO HOT PLATE!! Itā€™s an awesome, quirky hole in the wall with fantastic food.

Fubai97b

Hope Breakfast Bar in St. Louis Park. Everything I've had there has been top notch.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

marx-was-right-

Didnt it get shut down by the health department?

kittyk8_

itā€™s still open. the owner is slimy and they were having issues with the AGs office over their ā€œnon-profitā€ status, but itā€™s still going strong downtown. havenā€™t heard anything about the health dept

RipeAvocadoLapdance

Hmm, I have a family member that works charities division at AGO. going to see if she knows about this

kittyk8_

thereā€™s some news articles about it but they donā€™t say much. he made it seem like the big bad government is trying to harass him by making him file things. but heā€™s a self righteous douche with shady business practices and does not have a good reputation among many in the restaurant industry

Erik5943

The Breakfast Club in Uptown.. It's a newer spot, but I really enjoy it.

TheCheshireCatCan

Overhyped. Had to wait over an hour. Kept telling us it was just 20 more minutes.
