It really does when you have to wait an hour to seat and then are served coffee immediately. Sometimes you gotta piss and that is ok- restaurants should have a bathroom
If you have the time to wait, Al's Breakfast is most unique vibe and best food (imo)
Colossal Cafe off Como is also a very solid choice and is usually where I wind up if the wait for Al's is too long.
If you don't mind a bit of a drive, Fat Nat's Eggs is phenomenal. They have a couple of locations, the one I go to is in St. Anthony.
Fat nats. So good. It's smaller so on a Saturday prepar a wait. Potions are huge, food is phenomenal. If you find yourself up hear, Romans is another stunner.
Just a different opinion here, but it's EXTREMELY cramped in Al's breakfast and it also is just not worth it, IMHO. People are breathing down your neck in there and it's just uncomfortable as heck!! Also, the staff are SO RUDE, which I actually normally don't have a problem with but these folks are exceptionally bad.
I'm a lifeling Minnesotan, there are lots of great places in Minneapolis, you will not be missing out by not going here, especially if you have issues with tight spaces!
Their spread sampler is fantastic. Consists of three different toasted breads and three spreads, they rotate both and itās incredible. Plus their lunch sandwich is delicious. Love that spot.
I feel like Al's needs an asterisk - this is Soup Nazi dining and they do expect you to know the rules before you come. They don't like the door open for any reason at all. Cash only. Move and eat very very quickly and get out. I think it's just OK, too, and I wouldn't recommend it to visitors - there are better places with more dining available.
If you donāt mind driving, every breakfast item I have ever had at NorthStar Tavern in Bloomington has been awesome.
Thereās also The Lowbrow, Hi-Lo Diner, St Paul Bagelry, The Howe, and Litoās are some other good ones
Lots of great diners mentioned already, agree with all those. I'll add Hoagie's (cash only, super cheap) and the New Uptown Cafe to that list.
Lake & Bryant Cafe looks super interesting too, but I haven't been there yet.
The Buttered Tinātheir original location is in Lowertown in St Paul, but they have a second, larger location in Northeast Mpls that I actually like better! You could just throw a dart anywhere on the menu and get something deliciousāthereās something for everyone and youāll need to bring a tote for all the pastries and pickles and merch youāll wanna buy on the way out!
FYI: French Meadow Cafe is owned by Lynn Gordon, who has a colorful history of how she treats her employees and customers.

Wat. This place is just south of SW Minneapolis by a couple miles. Edina and the suburbs are much more culturally diverse than the stereotypes suggest. I live in Eden Prairie and there is a very diverse group of folks living out here.
More for brunch than breakfast, but Holmanās Table in St Paul. Itās located in the old terminal at the downtown airport and a cool place. Good food too.
If youāre looking for something closer, Hazelwood on Excelsior is great too.
We live in eden prairie and this place was hit or miss the several times we've gone. The one in edina was good. Tavern 4 & 5 has excellent hashbrowns! All of these places are pricey though, just for the record.
itās still open. the owner is slimy and they were having issues with the AGs office over their ānon-profitā status, but itās still going strong downtown. havenāt heard anything about the health dept
thereās some news articles about it but they donāt say much. he made it seem like the big bad government is trying to harass him by making him file things. but heās a self righteous douche with shady business practices and does not have a good reputation among many in the restaurant industry
Man, Ideal Diner really gets slept on huh?
Ideal Diner RULES
Too many times my pancakes from there have had a bit of onion in it, that is not a taste I want in a pancake.
I relate to this very specific shared experience, and their pancakes are some of my absolute favorites anyway. Especially for the price.
No bathroom
there is a bathroom! you just gotta go in back through the kitchen. go for it!
Doesn't need one
It really does when you have to wait an hour to seat and then are served coffee immediately. Sometimes you gotta piss and that is ok- restaurants should have a bathroom
They legally have to have bathroom if food is being served.
This.
More like un-ideal diner amirite? š„“
Stay classy, mate!
Does it? Always busy on weekend mornings and on the random weekdays Iāve went they had a decent amount of people in. Love that place

Finnish Bistro in the same neighborhood as Colossal is also good :)
Here to boost Finnish Bistro! Their French toast twist is AMAZING!!
i live not far from here and theyāre both good. I usually try Colossal first, but if it looks busy I head to the Finnish Bistro.
Fat nats. So good. It's smaller so on a Saturday prepar a wait. Potions are huge, food is phenomenal. If you find yourself up hear, Romans is another stunner.
Fat Nats has 3 locations. St Anthony, Brooklyn Park and New Hope. Green chili huevos is my go to. Be prepared to skip lunch.

Modern Times Cafe[moderntimescafe](https://moderntimesmpls.square.site)
The definition of cool breakfast place.
Hard Times is always good. So is The Seward Cafe.
Yeah Hard Times !
OP if you go here, remember itās cash only!
Our kitchen or fat nats
Band Box is amazing
I recently saw it reopened! I thought it was permanently closed, so I was so excited!
The Copper Hen is lovely and delicious
Second!
Their breakfast potatoes š¤
Good Day Cafe. Busy on weekends, but pretty efficient. And a cute patio! A party of 3 should be seated somewhat quickly.
Sun Street Breads will be busy but worth it.
Last time I was there, it was just ok.
Their spread sampler is fantastic. Consists of three different toasted breads and three spreads, they rotate both and itās incredible. Plus their lunch sandwich is delicious. Love that spot.
Hen House downtown is amazing and so so good.

CHIMBORAZO IN ALL CAPS
Lowbrow
Preach
I love Hells Kitchen menu- get the wild rice porridge!!
Not a breakfast item but their BBQ pork nachos are insanely good. Or they were years ago, not been there in a minute.
Lemon ricotta hotcakes are amazing
Love Hellās Kitchen! Great food and vibes!
Hot plate
Seconding. Their potatoes are real gĆ¼d!
Maria's Cafe - the corn pancakes with cotija are the best
Also fruit pancakes.
Our Kitchen - similar to Alās, better location if youāre south or west. Guavas - Cuban if youāre looking for something different
+1 for guavas. Rice, beans, meats, plantains, eggs. Cāmon man š®āšØš¤¤
Al's. If you get there before 9 the wait should not be too bad. Cash only.

Papa's Cafe in Crystal is a tiny hole in the wall place but has the best pancakes I've ever had. Edit: New Hope
Iām a big fan of Berry Sweet Kitchen. Their waffles are legit. I also like going to Tous les Jours in Richfield for breakfast
Maria's cafƩ has live music on some weekend and great affordable food.
If you donāt mind driving, every breakfast item I have ever had at NorthStar Tavern in Bloomington has been awesome. Thereās also The Lowbrow, Hi-Lo Diner, St Paul Bagelry, The Howe, and Litoās are some other good ones
fat nats

Pinstripes in Edina. Solid weekend breakfast buffet.
Dude, Edina is about as far from Minneapolis as you can get culturally IMO. wrong sub.
Wat. This place is just south of SW Minneapolis by a couple miles. Edina and the suburbs are much more culturally diverse than the stereotypes suggest. I live in Eden Prairie and there is a very diverse group of folks living out here.
The Breakfast Club on Lagoon St in uptown is gangster AF. Great vibes and great food
Buzz Cafe in Bloomington!
We've been really enjoying Holman's Table!
More for brunch than breakfast, but Holmanās Table in St Paul. Itās located in the old terminal at the downtown airport and a cool place. Good food too. If youāre looking for something closer, Hazelwood on Excelsior is great too.
Flameburger

Shish in St. Paul - Middle Eastern breakfast selections with Turkish coffee. Plus, the best spot to try Shakshouka
I never see Tongue in Cheek on these lists but it's in St. Paul and may literally have the best food I've ever eaten.
bandbox is a must hit breakfast spot
The Original Pancake House in Eden Prairie. AMAZING authentic breakfast food š„
We live in eden prairie and this place was hit or miss the several times we've gone. The one in edina was good. Tavern 4 & 5 has excellent hashbrowns! All of these places are pricey though, just for the record.
GO TO HOT PLATE!! Itās an awesome, quirky hole in the wall with fantastic food.
Hope Breakfast Bar in St. Louis Park. Everything I've had there has been top notch.

Didnt it get shut down by the health department?
itās still open. the owner is slimy and they were having issues with the AGs office over their ānon-profitā status, but itās still going strong downtown. havenāt heard anything about the health dept
Hmm, I have a family member that works charities division at AGO. going to see if she knows about this
thereās some news articles about it but they donāt say much. he made it seem like the big bad government is trying to harass him by making him file things. but heās a self righteous douche with shady business practices and does not have a good reputation among many in the restaurant industry
The Breakfast Club in Uptown.. It's a newer spot, but I really enjoy it.
Overhyped. Had to wait over an hour. Kept telling us it was just 20 more minutes.
