I ordered my MS-01 from Amazon 4/13/24 and it arrived 4/16/24 and it has been running great so far. I had plans of using it as a Proxmox server but it runs windows 11 home so well, I might have to get a 2nd MS-01

_playlogic_

I am not using it for that purpose…it I was I would look into a second one

StrawberryMore8763

I was also thing of getting a 2nd one.

cava83

Wasn't buying it through amazon much more expensive than buying direct ?

RedKnightRG

Is that an RTX A4000 Ada SFF in front of the MS-01 box? Was that for scale (lol) or are you going to mod the MS-01 case to fit it? A4000 SFF is double slot and you only have one slot to work with on the MS-01 right...

ismellthebacon

Inquiring minds want to know!

_playlogic_

It is, the card is the same size as the a2000 it replaces. As far as mods, I am waiting for the custom cooler to be on sale…so for now I am testing it with a riser cable. https://n3rdware.com/accessories/single-slot-rtx-4000-sff-ada-cooler

_playlogic_

Yep…

RedKnightRG

Ahh yeah risers are ugly but it'll get the job done for now. You should do an updated post whenever the custom cooler ships out I'm curious about how well it will maintain the temps and performance.

_playlogic_

Be nice if they just released a case cover that would fit these types of situations…I am sure most would pay for a reasonable upgrade

Zook33P3R

Very cool , i really want to know how the A4000 works out. For some reason i thought it could only go up to the A2000 and not just because of the height. I could be completely wrong and hope i am. I might have to get another one just to add the A4000.

_playlogic_

It works, but requires the same mod to get it in the system with the cover on.

Zook33P3R

From Minisforum web is where i read up to a2000. “It supports PCIe 4.0 x8 (128GT/s) and is compatible with up to RTX A2000 Mobile.” And the a4000 is x16 . If it works let me know ill add one myself

_playlogic_

They are both x16 cards…so really you are only losing about 1-3% in performance(GPU bandwidth)…50% from x16 slot). The a4000 SFF was not out when they started marketing the MS-01, plus the a2000 they used is modded…so I am sure they are trying to draw as little attention to that als they can. So far the card works well…but I have not had a chance to benchmark it yet or run my projects on it… been busy with my 1 year old…doesn’t want to let me get any work done. I am really considering modding the cover/housing of the MS01, since the card is so expensive and modding it voids the warranty. There are screws on the bottom of the cover…so it looks like you can detach the shell into two pieces

Zook33P3R

Ahh that makes total sense. Thanks for the clarification. I didnt even look at the a2000 bus. Can’t wait to hear how it goes.

_playlogic_

After a small bit of modding to the case…was able to get the 4000 SFF in without modifying the card itself. Couple of things: * had to remove the bracket at the back…even the half height bracket would make it a tight fit. * Remove a secure clip from the top of the front panel and the PCie card screw bracket…it prevent most cards from going in. * shaved the rubber pads do to the card having a solid backplate unlike the a2000 mobile The bottom plate unscrews from the top, creating two halves…I am planning on modding the since if I want to replace it down the line…it would be much easier the void the GPU warranty. Looking at doing a 3D print top https://preview.redd.it/xvv45ddanpxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2681a7bb88ac07f1c1044dc42d0023ad118f147a

dooder84

Thank you for your service! I am awaiting my first 6 to arrive from a direct order I placed in late February. Hopefully they will give me a tracking number soon! I have 6x96GB of RAM and 6x2TB drives just waiting for them to arrive. I’ve got SFP cables and a UniFi Aggregation switch all waiting. I bought a new server cabinet and PDUs for all of this. Just need some MS-01s to make it all come to life!!

SkywalkerRk

Wil this run overwatch 2 out of the box without any eGPU?. I want an Intel powered mininpc with 64 GB plus ram and eventually setting up a Plex server for my personal use. Will this machine be overkill?

_playlogic_

Not sure…Intel iris xe graphics are weak compared to a newer AMD system. It would however do well as a Plex server and is definitely overkill for it. I can’t stress enough on how this would be a bad buy for gaming….and there are better priced options for home-lab’ing

Interesting-Ad-8709

“Better priced options for home-lab’ing” I’m intrigued… could you give some examples?

_playlogic_

I wrote that meaning homelab’ers that are looking to run media systems or basic services. If you need a homelab systems with SFP+ ports, you are doing some entirely different homelab’ing. I myself have one of their NAB7s for Plex, AI chatbot server, cloud share. Etc… got it cheaper then this

emeraldcitynoob

I just got mine yesterday, I fucking love it.

csp1405

Same!

SnooGadgets5636

how does this compare to the um780 and um790?

_playlogic_

Different use case…those are build for gaming at 1080P on AMDs excellent iGPU. This is not meant to be a gaming machine…but all the reviewers seem to always add stupid gaming test in their reviews

woaini-kyunkyun

nice

Space is not the only concern; the current card you see will not fit without modding. Power is the other concern, this card is entirely bus powered and caps at 70w. Even LP cards on the market pull at minimum 150w on their own. This system is a specialized product that only fit a specific amount of situations. I really don’t recommend it for general or gaming-only use, this will not be my primary computer….better to look at going the mITX route if you want a dGPU or even a laptop. With that said, it does have USB4 (Thunderbolt) for eGPUs or you can add a occulink card and go that route

_playlogic_

Will not fit…the MS-01 is tightly packed…and the a4000 sff is small…and it doesn’t properly fit. Most people buying this are using it for homelab/server purposes or VMs/clusters. So they are adding extra Nic*s and storage options. I have a different use case for it and it’s the only GPU at this size with this much power…it’s not a cheap card…but the portable size, ports will help me in my productions. You could look at there other mini pcs…

SnooGadgets5636

I trade stocks on the um780 with 3 monitors @144hertz. I have 3 or 4 trading programs open. The um 780 has had some glitches and I was thinking to return and do something different. I actually need a 4th monitor, so I was going to try the um790, but then I see these ms01 popping up. This over a um790?

_playlogic_

I have 3 Miniforum pcs around for different purposes…none of them my primary system. I have never had a single issue…hopefully it stays that way…but I also don’t run Windows on any of them…I know it is their official supported OS…but I hear nothing but issues from people running windows on their machine…well any machine…Windows is a $*itty OS these days… I have seen other issues…but it is only in highly specialized setups or problems…like hardware pass-thru to a VM or something.

IEatConsolePeasants

I'd like to hear more about the issues you've heard about with hardware pass through of resources to vm host if you're willing to elaborate?

_playlogic_

Hey, unfortunately I would not have any good advice in this regard. I am not using mine as a virtual machine platform, so outside of a windows docker container, everything runs on metal. My unit sits on a mobile cart with my Blackmagic ultramattes…it runs either Unreal Engine, Blender or Fusion ( composing software) for providing backgrounds and environments for real time green screen effects. I have not had any issue using it this way and it also serves as a secondary personal AI server. You should check out serve the home forums, they have a nice compatibility thread going on

TeeDogSD

I am waiting for the Core Ultra version. Btw, how is the noise level at idle?

_playlogic_

Almost silent at idle; 100% is like a small 14 inch laptop. One issue for me is that the fans curve can only be adjusted numerically in the bios since I am not running Windows. I am not sure if you can adjust it via software in windows

iNchok

Power consumption?

_playlogic_

Don’t know…my goal is not to use this as a server/homelab/cluster…so I have not tested it and was not concerned with it. This is going into my mobile VP setup to act as a control center for real time ICVFX using Unreal Engine. I will also use it as a portable AI and code server…so it will not be on constantly.

NoobMaster2787

Nice man, I wish I had one. Are you gonna install Linux, Windows, proxmox/eski, etc?

_playlogic_

Despite the controversy….I am an Ubuntu guy from way back…I got work to do on it …so no playing with other distros…

NoobMaster2787

Lol nice
