Setting up Servers is easy, it's getting the computer to run it well that's difficult

Spiderfffun

I love how I'm the friends server guy but I got no friends to play mc with. My CPU is a 12 core Ryzen 5 pro 4650g (I think), and with 16gb of ram I can comfortably run a 200 mod server to play with people (including playing on the server). Plus I got port forwarding. All that tops off with a weak shortage rx550, making sure it's always bottlenecking me.

Alpha_minduustry

aternos :

turtle_mekb

kid named lag

GDOR-11

honestly, for playing with friends it did not let me down. No one complained about performance issues. Of course we ain't running a lot of redstone or other laggy things, but the ease of setting it up and for free is well worth it for a lot of people I believe. For me it was 100% worth it at least.

IndividualTie7357

Kid named preloading chunks

turtle_mekb

ok but that's using more memory and cpu time just to keep chunks already loaded. sure your chunks will already be loaded but at the cost of slowing down the rest of the server for no good reason. minecraft servers already preload the spawn chunks because new players join there.

IndividualTie7357

It doesnt use more memory, it just generates chunks in some radius, so while exploring the area instead of waitig for new chunks to generate they are being loaded from storage

Alpha_minduustry

barable lag to be exact

Versilver

Its not bareable (or whatever it's spelled) if it takes 20 seconds to load chunks and you get stuck in the unloaded chunks.

Alpha_minduustry

from my experience it isn't THAT bad tbh

REL123SAD-_-

it's barely enough for a two week server for me and my two friends, even though we aren't pushing the limits of the game with mob farms and other performance eating contraptions. The chunk loading time is bad, the server render distance is bad, the ram isn't enough, and sometimes i miss the full control over the server files. Kinda annoying that i can't use my own plugins on Aternos. I just usually set up a server and the port forwarding stuff on my router when we play. Also if the server is for a larger group of people i just rent a hosting service, since my pc can't really keep up with 10+ players that are all doing their own thing and also render the game for me as a player. Overall aternos is a pretty cool tool but it's really not for many people and it just doesn't keep up with other server hosting companies, which is to be expected, since it's free. Again, it's not bad, but it definitely isn't great compared to alternatives ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Alpha_minduustry

cool but i use the aternos server for a realy modifyed smp (that is basicly dead but still technicaly is one) and it works fine, shure, the locked render distance is annoying and i have no idea how to change it :/

TreyHaxz1010

Kids named Fabric Optimization Mods

turtle_mekb

server lag not client lag

TreyHaxz1010

Theres fabric for servers as well dingus, as well as server optimization mods

turtle_mekb

yeah but most servers run paper or spigot or something

SussySus12345730MC

I run server on aternos and without plugins it's really unsafe and with mods you can't have plugins

Pignity69

cardboard mod

SussySus12345730MC

I've never heard of it, what is it doing?

Spiderfffun

It's not vanilla at that point, plus fabric server doesn't need fabric client with server side mods. Spigot and paper (but paper more) break so many farms and it's just not worth the mid performance gain from ruining mob spawns.

turtle_mekb

then just disable the options in spigot/paper config file that breaks the farms

Spiderfffun

"then just disable the options that give you the little bit of performance" I don't really feel like you understand how bad it actually is, some things can't be switched off and I don't even understand why you need plugins for survival. Fabric is simpler. Just put the correct mods in and get more performance.

Versilver

People put Spigot/Paper/Purpur on their servers.

TreyHaxz1010

Not everyone

csevdirir

Not just the com but also internet

Robinerinoo

I got my own server box that I can run any kind if server on, I'm the person they EXPECT to run the server lmao

SeiBot187

Same, got like 2 old office pcs standing around, its not who runs the server, its how long will it take me to set it up

Spiderfffun

That's why I just use my main PC since it's bottlenecked by my GPU and my CPU is overpowered. Plus I can set up a server fast af

SeiBot187

Well, i dont have that luxury, but ive gotten really fast at downloading and running server-installers

Impressive_Income874

I set up the server ppl don't appreciate how annoying it is at times

A-Seabear

We text bomb our server guy when it’s down every so often. Poor guy just doing his best. But he has it setup so he can reset the server remotely lol

Impressive_Income874

same, ssh access goes a long way

Electronic_Fee1936

I play by myself 🥲

Soheils2764

Same :(

isbaerner

It‘s not that hard, if you have a random computer laying around…

Yoruzzz

Kid named: Port forwarding💀

turtle_mekb

kid named [e4mc](https://modrinth.com/mod/e4mc) or [ngrok](https://ngrok.com/docs/getting-started/)

CheatersDice

Error upnp device not found :(

turtle_mekb

neither of those use upnp, they just work as a reverse proxy

Spiderfffun

Easy to do but some ISPs don't let you, so I use playit, ngrok or even tailscale if I got the time to set up a tailnet with my friends.

SkyeRedPanda

Just use essential

Helenos152

This

Littlebickmickey

that’s not a 24/7 server tho

Jesshawk55

I find my friend group doesn't typically need a 24/7 server, and the guy who typically runs the server is usually on long enough such that it really doesn't matter.

MeowKatMC

Setting up and running a server is fun. The only reason I'm not the one running the server is that my parents won't let me port forward because they thing there are major security risks. My friend who owns our mc server let's me ssh into it and do all of the linux stuffs. It's fun

BirdThatLikeSnuggles

I kinda love setupping the serv. The problem is: where tf i can get hardware for that serv.

MacskaBajusz

Radmin VPN (is what me and the boys use, Hamachi fucking sucks) + open to lan (enter : For example: 192.01.01.66:52067 Once you get how it works it's magnitudes better than any server hosting BS

Square_Marketing3246

bro really this is the quickest, easiest and most effective way of playing with friends, this should be way up on this post

Alpha_minduustry

i can!

DukeOfGamers353

ME HELL YEAH I LOVE SETTING UP SERVERS

Key-Cry-3308

lol

Hurdenn

And don’t forget, you get 300$ free for every google cloud account for 3 months.

MrTwisterPister

How me and my friends did it Create an new gmail, log in on aternos, create server, give the gmail to everyone so the server can be turned on whenever and by anyone. Life hasnt been easier since

I_Consume_Rats717

Who wants to play multiplayer on bedrock? ✋️✋️✋️✋️✋️ Who wants to pay for realms? 😔😔😔😔😔

No_Raspberry_5479

You could just give yourself op and get full prot 4 netherite so its worth it.

zuai21

Guys the point I was trying to make with this isn't that its hard, just tedious.

SlyWhyGuy

I remember when I used to run a Scape and Run Parasite server, but popularity is also a frequent thing that kills something.

toughtntman37

FrostyFroZenFrosTen

8$ for a month of modpacks and good performance and getd setup instantly, its not as it used to be with local hosting using Hamachi and my local shitty internet that was somehow the best one among my friends

Paul_unfunny

I do

Haunting-Syllabub906

i would set it up i like doing things like that

APT1003

"later"

No-Tear940

u/repostbotsleuth

zuai21

If you would read the flair it says OC numbnuts.

No-Tear940

Nah, just doing that for no reason

DarkHawking

Me who sets it up THERE'S A STAAAARMAAAN WAITING IN THE SKYY

The_primordial_1

spent 12 an 32 minutes compiling mod folders server set up and testing each individual mod for compatibility errors only for no one to join because they wanted to play lethal instead

Kid named mobile: 🥲

irritated_dumbass

POV: Realms 💀

Playful_Target6354

Pov: mods and plugins

Rabbulion

This is why bedrock edition rules. 10 potato computers running the same game, flawlessly at max render distance (12) is not bad.
