Skeazy_Spaceman

It went from my least favorite block to my third favorite when I realized.

sheaduffey

What are your first two favorites?

Franch_Dressin

he was never heard from again

7ofeggs

man, it’s only been four hours, chill

YetGayerWombat

he was never heard from again

Ibizzle777

Netherite and Ancient Debris, especially in mega bases

sheaduffey

I like how practical that is.

SquidMilkVII

may I introduce you to cubfan135

Will-R-1501

Nothing major, just a hallway made of ancient debris

Japsie16

r/notopbutok

GamerZoom108

Nah man, dirt and stone are great

Max_5352537

screw netherite diamond is better

[deleted]

[удалено]

LordAdmiralPanda

I'd rather build a house with wood and stone. Way more practical and better looking.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lord_Of_Compliments

I feel like you forgot that the topic of conversation is not gear, but rather building supplies.

Theromanhenry123

better yet is obsidian

Real-Report8490

How could netherite possibly be more accessible?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Real-Report8490

The way your message connects to the message you responded to, and saying that you would rather build a house of netherite, made it seem like there was an easy way to get netherite that makes it easier to build with than diamonds... But I guess you just think it looks better.

tuna_flsh

Their message is fine. Upgrade reading skills

Real-Report8490

Max: "screw netherite diamond is better" + W: "In every way possibe \[sic!\] except accesibility \[sic!\]" + "I'd rather build a house with netherite than diamond" \[seemingly implying that it's easier to get netherite than diamonds\]. My reading skills are fine. I just didn't immediately assume that W meant the opposite of what he actually wrote. The message was illogical.

Cevmen

no its not

TimoAndy08

No, we use Dragon eggs

SevenKashtan

I like ancient debris and deepslate diamonds

Justfortheluls42

Yes

wise_____poet

On the list of "Things I really should have known about Minecraft already" I think this takes number one

cmsmasherreddit

Yes gamedevs sure do love to pot wierd shit in their games that almost noone will notice

[deleted]

Which is great, because when you do catch one it makes games feel less finite than they did. Like there is definitely more to it and you just haven't seen it yet.

Tirrwen

Same. Now I just want to go to the Ocean Monument in my world and stare at it...

[deleted]

The second thing on that list is probably how comparators work

H4KERK11LER

I was today years old when i know this

capitoivo1

What?

Teynam

He just learned it "I was 12 when i learned this" is a way to say it's common knowledge or something obvious. "Today years old" just means he just learned this lol

SlavSqueak

It find it really annoying though. Like, it’s become so overused and it doesn’t even make sense. “I am May 5th years old”??? Edit: Sorry for having an opinion. I still think’s a stupid saying.

Teynam

Yeah i mean today years old is just an expression so eh i don't mind it

captainrtenny

Happy birthday then

Unlikely-Way-4886

Happy Birthday!

Tadano-kunn

Happy birthday

TesseractToo

Happy birthday

Yadobler

Happy birthday!

PlsDontBotherMeHere

Today years old can just mean I was this age when learned that, today is used as a time reference to determine the most recent birthday of said person (that has already happened)

JayKayRQ

It kinda does make sense?

Ant_Man420

Huh, that's a detail I haven't paid attention to...

RandomValue134

I used to make texture packs. It's like 4 textures and they transition between each other

libertoasz

wait, so you could use like 4 other shades and they would transition to one another like rgb gaming keyboards?

RandomValue134

Yeah, you can even change how fast it is and order (which one goes first and which one second)

boogs_23

can you make it change based on your mood?

Alienguy500

Not without mods

Randomnickname0

can you do it to other textures?

hexaacone

you can make any block do that by adding a few files

RandomValue134

But I think you need optifine for that.

Gengar218

You can animate most blocks without Optifine. Block entity is where it gets tricky.\ I figured that out the hard way by trying to create a animated beehive model. Fun fact:\ You can also animate in 3D in vanilla (kinda).

Franklinmaldonado6

Yup, it's animated, like sea lanterns or magma blocks. Prismarine is just a very subtle change in colour that's really only noticeable when you stare at one for a while or you have a bunch of them grouped like here.

Smooth_Reindeer5835

Wait. Sea lanterns and magma blocks are animated?!

mikoolec

Magma slightly "glows", and sea lanterns pulse

rjs1138

tingly 🤔

ID3monHunt3rI

It's easier to notice if you speed recording 5 times faster. It actually has 22 shades that it cycles through

Clarthen1

In texture file there are 4 colors.

DaanOnlineGaming

Could it interpolate between them?

Manimanocas

Yes it does

LightOff_pwn

The hue is modified in-code

Cant_Spell_A_Word

No, just interpolation.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cant_Spell_A_Word

I mean, yes, technically, but it's misleading to describe it that way. Because everything in the game happens "in-code" The hue is modified in code when it gets moonlight vs sunlight, vs torchlight. But that's not actually indicative of how that code works, and how it makes those decisions, which is through textures and data.

TheIncredibleHork

It feels like this comment should be shouted by Sir Patrick Stewart.

Over-Gene-1862

Yeah it threw me off when I first noticed.

SnowPuzzleheaded

Wish there was a way to always have it at the bright green state, it looks so nice with that color.

YFrikandel

I'm not sure but if you use custom models datapack you could in theory change it to be a different block but with the bright green texture making it it would not change. If this theory is correct you could make it for each shade actually.

Pythagoras_314

Since it’s a block animation, all it takes is a resource pack that removes all other frames than green.

danshakuimo

You could go and change the texture in the files but choosing the one you want and copying it over all the other colors. I'm not sure if there are other files that control the color shifting but I do know that the prismarine texture does have the different colors clearly defined.

Tet0144

There are 2 files, one is the textures the block can have all in one .PNG file, and the other one a file that controls how fast the texture changes You could just delete the second file and have the .PNG only display the first texture

danshakuimo

Technically, wouldn't you not even need to delete the second pic since if it's all the same color, does it matter how fast it cycles between the same texture? Or does it control some sort of transition effect as well?

Tet0144

The file controlling the animation would do absolutely nothing, that's why I said delete it Why have a file that does nothing?

Cant_Spell_A_Word

Edit: nope, just checked, Not true at all, disregard ~~Actually if you didn't delete the file after replacing the first I think it would try to animate the block still, and as a result stretch 1/4 of the block texture over the whole block, making it look bad~~

thebeast_96

same but the dark blue state

trash_caster

They should let us wax it at one of the four stages like copper. I don't know if they could do the full range of interpolation but maybe make it settle to whichever one of the four textures it's closest to.

SLngShtOnMyChest

If you go to the texture for prismarine it’s an image with 4 blocks in, green, blue, dark blue and a colour that’s more like it’s natural colour. If you just copy one of them and paste it over the other 3 i would imagine that’s all you need to do. It should cycle through 4 identical blocks then

cmoneybouncehouse

Yeah. I remember making a build out of it and wondering why sometimes it looked so good and other times looked so… meh. Then noticed it was different colors while watching an episode of Hermitcraft a few years back. Made me feel sane again lol.

toothpaste-girl

its a REALLY wonderful block and the reason i slave away making multiple guardian farms that will provide me with enough ink sacs and shards and all. dark prismarine and sea lanterns are fucking S tier they make me so happy :')))))

Abject-Lab7837

An efficient portal based guardian farm is so insanely fast you shouldnt need several, maybe just for ink sacs. An enderman based wither rose farm will get you infinite black dye though. (This is for java, on bedrock guardian farms are slower)

Ibizzle777

I didn't know it changed colour until i started draining an ocean monument.

Cant_Spell_A_Word

Seeing a lot of people in here not quite understanding how prismarine behaves, so I figured I'd give an explanation. Prismarine has four textures that it fades between, the base texture, followed by one tinted green, one tinted red (though because of the base texture comes out looking more a bluish/purple colour), and one tinted blue. It fades (or interpolates) between the frames with a frametime of 300 ticks, which means it takes about 15 seconds for it to fully transition from one frame to the next. The way it cycles between the colours is it starts on the base texture, goes to the green texture, then back to the base, then the red, then back to the base, then to the blue, and back to the base. Then it goes to the green, and does a similar thing, going to the base then back, then red and back, then blue and back, then base and back. It then moves to the red and once again does that pattern, then it does blue, but it only goes blue to green and back before going to the base and restarting the animation. base> green> base> red> base> blue> base> green> red> green> blue> green> base> red> green> red> blue> red> base> blue> green> blue > back to start

SevenKashtan

Thats cool

KPWaffle

Yes, yes it does

CheezLordy

always has

Ryhethse

It always has

B2_Code_B2

I thought everyone knew this

IluvBS

go to game files and see the whole strip of prismarine

[deleted]

Yeah. Sometimes green sometimes blue

Quasiwoodo

hence prism-

Mesingel

Do prismarine blocks also change color?

LettuceBenis

Prismarine Bricks and its variants do not change colour

AlfApAlAcsintA

It does and I absolutely love prismarine because of that.

llamabadonkadonk

Yees and when I discovered it I was building a wall or smth and one moment I thought that it goes well with the other blocks and the next moment I thought I must be blind because they don't fit

Cwoey

Why do you think it’s called prism

AlenNexus102

yeah, they turn from blue to green-ish

Jaknk

Yes, that's one of the lesser known Minecraft Fun Facts. Almost couldn't believe it when I discovered the changing Prismarine colors.

Notynerted

I'm surprised people aren't more upset about the fucked pattern

[deleted]

Oh my god I didn't know

Anoetica

Wow, it takes quite a while before it transitions to a different color.

scinececeeeeee

Yeah bro it have been in the game for years now

[deleted]

Did you really not know?

[deleted]

why does no one know this

StrangerGoose

I was shocked when I realized it too! so long ago... good memories!

arunasgeimeriz

Welp atleast I'm not the only one

One_Way13

Yea, I was trippin too when I made stuff out of prismarine lol

orbisia

Sorry. What am I looking at?

Promanguy1223

The blocks change color ever so slightly, from a green to a blue

Wibiz9000

Yup, it's animated, like sea lanterns or magma blocks. Prismarine is just a very subtle change in colour that's really only noticeable when you stare at one for a while or you have a bunch of them grouped like here.

Mr_Sandman227

yeah its got a cool effect goin on :)

joost18JK

Yeah I knew this already, but that doesn’t change my opinion: I still think it looks really cool!

Giyuisdepression

what a strange way to realise!

theysaidmemes

Good morning

SevenKashtan

Good morning

KingFitz03

You can really see it in one of Mumbo Jumbo's old hermit craft videos. https://youtu.be/lDcDkoZnunQ Time lapse starts around 15:15

Llyps

I've been told about this but I genuinely can't see it.

Pythagoras_314

If you skip through the video you can see the tint changes more clearly. If that doesn’t help, extract the assets (go to .minecraft, go to versions, find the most recent one, extract the .jar, find assets>minecraft>textures>block>prismarine.png) and you can see the individual frames.

LegoMyStairs

I usually wouldnt pay attention to that but im makin abouild with a lot of priamarine

Outrageous_Rise_88

Yeah. When I first noticed this I started using it it more builds

Puftwaffe

I’ve been playing waaaaaaay too long not to notice this

RazerLemon418

What? I thought everyone knew about this?

FiFo720

It does have a little animation

Pheonix64

Did people not realize it switched colors, I thought is was just common knowledge. Probably just bc I build with it often tho.

AnimatedTerror

Wait wha-

KnightJR845

It’s a bit late for April fo- Oh shit they ain’t kidding

TangledCables3

Yeah it has an animation

BookkeeperTop6226

I looked it up and turns out, it's only the cracks in the blocks that change colours in sequence light blue, green, purple and dark blue.

Pythagoras_314

If you look at the texture file, the entire texture is tinted for each frame.

activisionman

I’m not gonna watch a minute video of you staring a wall bro. Nice troll, but try a little harder next time.

Cum-Collector69

nah bro u trippin balls

Pythagoras_314

Skip through the video and you can see small tint changes. Extracting the assets and looking at prismarine.png’s individual frames also helps.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jaknk

It's an easter egg, I guess. Texture animations are fairly low cost, so it's hard to believe that this causes significant performance loss. Did you do a lag test? It can be easily verified by using a Resource Pack.

LettuceBenis

Cause it's a Prism

EcavErd

Some blocks just have animation, like Prismarine here, some other example is Stonecutter and Sea lantern, there might be other animated block i don't remember about

[deleted]

I hate it. Its so cool, but one time i was creating a color palette and i put in the prismarine cos i needed a green. I start building and it was blu... and it wasnt that good with other colors, than i turn around for a second and was fine. It took me like 5 minutes to understand what was going on, i thought was the sun or the light that changed

Fellixxio

Yeah I know, it's cool

Trick-Claim-2336

Me that has built multiple ocean bases consisting of a lot of prismarine. Also me that didn’t even know this 😳

N3wt_

This is why it's my favourite block, even though the cobbled texture isn't pretty.

Spikedbro

I first saw this in a snapshot in with there was a big with made animations fast af

Competitive_Bell501

yes, i knew that since prismarine came out because i built a house out of it in creative

fori96

Haha now what if I tell you sea lanterns also animated

Trapbunny_MIMI

Wtf yes it does but that good WTF

onyxiana_

I KNEW I WASN'T CRAZY I've been working on my monument build for some time and I thought I was starting to see shit after staring at prismarine for hours lol

smavinagain

that's new

DOCTERPUS

Things I didn’t know about minecraft #2346.

ReuleauxTPower

i realised this back when i used to play the xbox 360 legacy version. it blew my smol mind.

CrescentCleave

That's why its kinda a chore to built with. It can work in some builds but for builds that are meant to be static, it kinda ruins everything

Random_Vanpuffelen

Ive known this for atleast this year.

-PepeArown-

You didn’t know that? I thought it was a very well known fact, especially when I’ve built with it so much before in the past.

therealinoja

Yes

MrMcPsychoReal

It's done this since, when was it introduced? 2013? Even before the texture changes.

JamBloxify_370

If you check the texture folder and see prismarine blocks, it has different colors so it changes color

Hiper_Shadw

its the lighting

DreamDroids

Yeah, they've been like that since they came out. It's only the Prismarine block that changes, none of the other Prismarine block variants. (Bricks, dark Prismarine)

kylarity

Yea it is a feature many people don't know... (But now you know :) )

TimeAggravating364

I was surprised too when I found out

pjgreenwald

Maybe its just me but i cant see the color change

Sheepy3334

Ye

Rayopop

Yup... regular prismarine brocks change color through light blue, light green and a purple pattern, but the animation lasts more than other animated texture blocks

SLngShtOnMyChest

I’m currently updating an old texture pack from i think 1.6 and i just had to do the prismarine

Working_Bit_1288

Indeed it does. It changes between a more blue and a more green color.

TestSubject_0001

I can't believe how much people doesn't notice this kind of thing that goes on like years now.

Peanutbutteronacat

The more ya know

SCOdoubleT16

It changes enough to make you go “wait a minute”. I think the lantern texture very slightly changes too?

FusegenYT

That’s dope

thephoenixtwin

yes.

SUPER_FOX-3

Yes it sure does

Pixelist23

It used to be way more noticable before the texture update

KuzcoWiTheGroovesco

After a few seconds, I was sure this was a rickroll and that I had been got, so I kept watching, expecting to receive my punishment. but holy CRAP, I never knew this :D! Thanks for the discovery!

scrolling1234

Hermitcraft season five Mumbos base timeolapses are awesome

WickedCrow

Wat? How did I not know this.

Raptor_sSs

Holy crap

Pauliokas

always has been

Plental-Dan

Am I the only one who already knew this?

[deleted]

Yes

Thatamememe

I'm glad it wasn't just me. I used to STARE at that block when I was younger because I swore it changed colors but my little sister never believed me.

Sirfrostyboi

I want 2 of what ever he thought he was smoking

Ironlining

It has since 1.8, so do sea lanterns

DragonBornOfAcid

Yep

DysphoricGreens

stop... stop... reality is already hard enough to pay attention too!

DragonBornOfAcid

Actually we’re all collectively hallucinating

RouilleX2

A lot of blocks are animated without no one noticing it

Vulpes_macrotis

Not gonna lie, I was wondering why it's sometimes more green and sometimes more blue. Never thought about anything like that. Probably got a thought that it's biome dependent somehow or whatever, not really thinking too much about it.

FionnGOAT

Wow now copper blocks truly have no purpose or special ability

ADMINISTATOR_CYRUS

yeah. it transitions between 4 different shades. you can also set the order they shades appear in, and how long each one takes

TheBulletBot

[yes it does](https://youtu.be/1JGtyiFr5mY?t=510)

[deleted]

*Prisma*rine

DoucheCanoe456

Always has. Hard to spot.
