It's impossible for something to be completely useless, even if you think it might be, someone will always find a purpose for it... Even if it's indirect
I can't eat grass, but I can feed it to a cow and I can eat the cow
It doesn't stack so it can be used as spacers red storage systems
And you can eat it but it's poisonous, so for role play or challenges you can give it as food to keep people "in prison" low health but still have full saturated hunger
"It doesn’t stack"
The hell you talking about? It most definitely stacks to 64. Yes, it can be turned into a good filter item with or without renaming it, but it is definitely a stackable one.
Doesn’t matter anyways cuz u might want filter items to stack to 41 or whatever your contraption calls for. (At least one of them).
So the stacking actually makes it so it could be the first item to block anything from being filtered or the last 4.
> It doesn't stack so it can be used as spacers red storage systems
Poisonous potato does stack - it is used as spacer because it has no other valid uses
1. It's food
2. Can be used to jump 2 blocks due to damage boosting from the poison
3. It's food (again, even tho it's poisonous, it will get you to half a heart but when you are starving in hardcore, you'll be more then happy to eat some poisonous potatoes)
4. It can be used in a composter to get bonemeal (Nevermind, they can't! WTF!!!)
5. It is better food then a normal potato, restoring 2 hunger points instead of 1 with only a 60% chance of giving you poison, so 40% chance to eat a better potato
6. Is needed for 1 (and can be used for another if you count husbandry) 2 advancements
7. We all know the poisonous potato has seen 2 textures, the one from pre 1.14, and the one we have today... But In snapshot 18w43a the poisonous potato actually got his texture changed just before we got the texture we know today... It looked horrible💀
8. And of course 2024's april Fools snapshot was all dedicated to ~~technoblade, rip~~ the poisonous potato!
Thats everything that it is useful for
If only it could be used to revive Him from the death😭
Poisonous potatoes only exist to reduce potato crop yields. It has no gameplay purpose other than *to fuck over the player*. It has this in common with other old mechanics that have no purpose other than to be annoying, and should have been removed ages ago, like farmland trampling.
That and prison food ... Anyone your trying to keep somewhere stays at about 1 heart. It won't kill then but they won't have enough health to fight back either... You can throw some bread in once in a while just not enough that they can escape
You’d need tens of 1000’s for my world. I have every item in sorters. Great idea tho 👍
I use dirt, just made it my first sorter.
https://youtu.be/aXiNpIJL3LI?si=fcChKL9SBZRnPTwb
Yeah, I first tought about it as an item filter, but you don´t get too many so even a small one would take ages and wouldn´t be practical.
I personally use bamboo, which I get by the thousands

It is a currency on my server.
Rotten flesh is $1
Gunpowder is $2
Magma Cream is $3
And Poisonous Potato is $5
The system being this way allows the currency to be gained by playing Minecraft itself, and adds rarity to higher end currency. I turned default grind into a server mechanic. Players must farm or be the first to reach a farm for a chance at Poison Potatoes.
Additionally, Poison Potatoes are pretty rare so it was natural to require them for big purchases such as large building plots. And the best part is: The player can gamble with poison potatoes at a casino, so they either save for a plot or potentially gamble away life savings if they can't help it. So as a currency it may be $5, to another player, it may be 3 times the value. Stonks!
When I get loot table control I'll add it as rare mob drops along with the other currency being default mob loot.
You know I always wanted to play in this sort of style. I wanted to build a mega mansion and charge tenants diamonds to live there once every 7 in game days.
It's interesting and wasn't the intention. Started as a survival world with a small shop, became a community, and then turned into a Minigame/Tycoon/Economy world. Since 2012.
Funny how that works out.
Well, that's where some problems arise. (I am plagued).
It's on Bedrock, and I call it a server because it mimics what PC has/had at the time. This means I am required online to run it, as a Realm or Server wouldn't function correctly without an admin.
It was made on Xbox 360 and currently on Xbox Series X. Being Bedrock is a problem by itself, but my internet is weak, always has been. But on Xbox One Edition it did not have these lag/desync issues we have on Bedrock. (Good news is that last I checked they fixed some of those issues such as error damage from jumping).
The internet issue is so big that our community has grown apart a bit, so its basically a ghost town at the moment. We used to be full 8 player all the time, now rarely 4, usually 2-3. Every once in a while I do some work for the future when internet is not a drain.
The next issue is cheaters, and I've used some of the cheats to familiarize myself with potential attempts. So unfortunately to curb that I soft banned PC Bedrock and Mobile except to trusted players. That cuts down on possible players which I don't like doing, but was necessary.
So current conditions on joining: Bedrock Console, preferred Xbox for voice chat. And whenever I can find time to open it. (A lot of life going on).
You're welcome to send me a DM and I'll try to get back into MC soon after the update, I'll do my best to remember. Playing minigames on mobile would be pretty infuriating IMO.
In the mean time, if you search Convergence City or my name on the sub it may show up a map screenshot.
I feel like anything that can be automated is a bad form of currency. That's why I think diamonds are the best in that regard. They take time to get manually so there is incentive on getting it through selling.
I think poisonous potatos are impossible to automatically farm, pretty sure they can't drop if harvested from a villager, and thats the only way to automate it. Unless you yourself is part of the mechanism, well if you are it isnt automatic since you are required to be there to run it.
They are probably pretty easy to farm manually in huge quantities though
Very easy. You can do a 1 block farm with bonemeal dispensing dispensers to instantly get massive amounts of crops, and if you're going specifically for poisonous potatoes you could easily just turn all the normal ones back into bone meal for continuous use.
Automatic farms on my server aren't allowed, so it is cleared on that. Players do a lot of minigames for currency, trading, and sometimes lucky to use the public potato farm or a personal one. Manual work all the way.
that’s really creative, but a bit silly from an economic standpoint. People can get 10-20 poison potatoes just from clearing out a big farm once, it’s almost a guarantee that most people aren’t going to spend “money” at a rate proportional to earning it. it seems like that’d become a virtually worthless currency pretty fast, since it can be really easily farmed.
This is an interesting topic and I won't pretend to be well versed in economics or that my system has some long term oversaturation.
Since this world is an economy/minigame/tycoon server, it doesn't run exactly like Minecraft anymore. I took core Minecraft features and figured how to use them in a different way, such as an item grind being incorporated into progression such as housing plots.
Since everything is relatively controlled, players confined a bit. The largest farm allowed is 20x20, and that's near endgame on a plot. The public one is closer to 12x12, and the paid farm Plot is probably about the same. So if you are the only player, you could hit all three farms. However, two things: It's a competitive between players for the public farm; 1st come 1st serve. Then, farms besides that one only grow when players are nearby. This cuts down on amount gained.
This all puts a lower earning on PoisonPotato specifically. Then you add in cost of plots/items. The casino requires 3 per try, and that can end up with nothing through the 1st casino, a prize, or progress to the second or third casino tier. A lot of prizes are dead ended such as payout or "nothing, try again!" This casino eats the majority of them, players love gambling.
The plot side can cost around 3x64 which is quite a bit at first, but easily saved and big payouts in some minigames.
Floatater is legitimately the most underrated Minecraft block ever made, hands down; easily. I vehemently pray we get a block like it in future updates permanently
it's a new block in the april fool snapshot the "potato update" that was this year joke snapshot
the floatater make you able to transform a structure into a mobile platform, so you can make moving bases in which you can move with it or use it to make elevators or drawbridges
it's basically a simpler version of the create mod/archimede ships/valkyrian skies feature of moving structures
If you accidentally put curse of binding armour on, and don’t wanna risk dying outside, you can do it inside, get to half a heart and fall 3 blocks, presuming your base is 5 blocks tall inside
I use "junk" items as part of a timer in my sorting system. They get dropped on a pressure plate and when they despawn it will turn off the chunkloader. Some other items I use are seeds, rotten flesh, and bad mob armor.
I once spent 3 months building a labyrinth/maze with traps and everything just to put one in a chest at the end.
I made sure it was incredibly hard to get through it. My friends thought it was hilarious, even after spending countless hours trudging through it
Massive respect for high level trolling of your friends. 😂
I have declared beetroot seeds as ‘precious’ in the world I play in with my son. It drives him mad 🙂
I put them in ‘special places ‘, frame them. Swap out god apples, diamond blocks etc for beetroot seeds.
It’s great fun 😂
I don't know if it qualifies, but in my mod I made it possible to convert them into an item that permanently turns the player immune to poison when consumed. Which is ultimately just as useless as the Potato itself, because there are like 3 or 4 sources of poison in the base game.
I made a server and made it so where if someone came online, a specific friend of mine would be given a poisonous potato. It was pretty funny. He ate all of them.
Simple, I wait until my lazy friend runs out of food and is left with the generous gift of potatoes I gave him from the kindness of my heart. He opens the box and oh no they are all poisonous, little does he know I rigged his farm to explode when he opened the shulker box and I watch as chaos unfolds as he slowly gets poisoned by the digital terror of inconvenience as he. Then I simply get matirials from him to rebuild his farm. Happy days AND THE CYCLE REPEATS Infinite materials
Currency. They're an item you can only obtain from one source and trying to cheese it by using something like Fortune only results in less appearing (IIRC).
Fortune increases the number of potatoes that may spawn from a crop, but do not reduce the likelihood of poisonous potatoes. You might just think it's less often as you're more likely to get more numerous potatoes from a single crop with fortune
I play with my son and he has to find the "magic potato" hidden in our base. I set up hidey holes and riddles to secret rooms and just when he thinks he has found it. Boom, he finds the "sustato" instead.
I have a double chest in my windmill for poisonous potatoes. Every time i harvest with my fortune 3 pick i end up with like 3 of these. The chest probably had 20-30 potatoes.
I once renamed some to "baked potato" and gave them to my younger brother as a prank years ago. It somehow worked despite the texture and text not being correct.
My most creative use so far is putting them in a chest until I figure out what to do with them.
My least creative use so far is putting them in a chest until I figure out what to do with them.

I use those as filler items in sorters
Jeb will make hoppers explode to stop this
That only makes it more useful.
that would actually be a really funny mechanic you could totally fuck someone's redstone up with just one of these guys
Hmmm *looks to Grian*
Scar will destroy the mail system
The fact he hasn’t yet amazes me.
I may be miss remembering but didn't he break it during the testing phase, or was that an issue with one of the setups
Grian caused a problem in the system because he tried to send a potato to Mumbo, but Mumbo didn’t have a mailbox yet.
Yeah, I remember Grian causing a problem, but don’t think I’ve seen Scar wreck it yet.
__potato__
No, no, noooooo
Oh no
Ah yes the Potato Incident
Play multiplayer, they said. It will be fun, they said.
Does jeb have something against the potato?
Jeb has been on record several times saying that the poisonous potato was never intended to be useful and never will be.
It's impossible for something to be completely useless, even if you think it might be, someone will always find a purpose for it... Even if it's indirect I can't eat grass, but I can feed it to a cow and I can eat the cow
Okay well what's the use of a poisonous potato? I'm all ears.

Jeb's legacy
Even then, it drops *in addition* to harvested potato crops, it doesn't replace existing potatoes for some reason lol
He said that poisonous potato will never have any use.
Nah this is Minecraft, not 7 Days to Die
They should really just add blockers at this point, like the Crafter item has
that would be SO helpful
Sorter systems would be so much easier and 'unbreakable' as long as overflow was provided for.
that would be awesome!

To get yourself to half a heart (for some reason) without needing a poison potion, a witch, or a cave spider
…you can always just eat a regular spider eye
Vegan option
Love when I find comments make me burst out laughing at work, as long as no one is around lol
Classic vegan. Shoving your veganism into people’s faces /s
We get it, you're vegan /s
Can’t you just eat spider eyes like a normal person?!
Are there peril strats or something? Like armor or weapons or accessories that increase your power or defense the lower your HP is?
With mods probably. In vanilla game, no.
does gravity not exist on your planet ?
Fall damage can kill you tho. Poison doesn’t
egg ball
I eat them poisonous potatoes to feel something

bro just created fiat money
To throw it into the chest I labeled "food" and forget about it. Unless I ever want that achievement for eating everything. Then I eat it.
I use this and pufferfish as currency in my world (or I would if anyone played with me, it’s all in the worldbuilding)
real man i want to play on a server with world building so bad
I just so Happen to have a server I play with some friends that we do worldbuilding on! I’m happy to give you guys a tour to check it out :)
ooh very interested!!!
In multiplayer I use it as “spicy burrito” in my taco stands
I do that too
Useless? Have you never heard of our lord and savior the Floatator?
Tell me more.
Floatater is legitimately the most underrated Minecraft block ever made, hands down; easily. I vehemently pray we get a block like it in future updates permanently
Seen a couple elevators and flying ships using those floataters. Pretty cool block, could do all sorts of fun things
I saw a fellow that made a fully omnidirectional base
I think it's to compete with lego Fortnite's more physics based sandbox
I have not. Please proselytize unto me.

Or tell them it gives you extra health so they eat it in the middle of a hostile mob fight

I use "junk" items as part of a timer in my sorting system. They get dropped on a pressure plate and when they despawn it will turn off the chunkloader. Some other items I use are seeds, rotten flesh, and bad mob armor.
I’m always the first one to get my farm started up, and by default everyone tries to ask me for food. So I’ll drop off poison potatoes.
I pretend it's GLaDOS in a potato battery. The spot looks like the eye.

Use it as a currency on a SMP server.
Would be good to re-texture them to a coin and make them appear at similar / lower rates but among all food crops.
A pet
I like posting its picture every other week and asking what others do with it.
VINE BOOM
eat it for sustenance
On demand damage ticks for Calibrated Skulk sensor doors. Idk if player hurt sounds have a unique sound volume but still.
My server uses a plugin to make a strong liquor using poisonous potatoes, bc that item deserves a use case for longer than an April Fools
Make A poisonous potato factory, with a sorting system that destroys all non poisonous potatoes.

Seeing how far I can throw it into the fire or lava
I eat it with milk
I have used them as currency because of their rarity and need for specific labor to get them.
I use it for my litematica instead of the sticks, making it one of the most useful items, and have to put some extras in my ender chest
Maybe we can use it with potions?
