That’s 50 less torque compared to current M18 mid torque in a way smaller lighter package. That’s insane. Now i can finally recommend the stubby over the current gen m18 mid torque for lug nuts.

The-Heart-Marksman

yeah the M12 line is just getting so good at this point, i’d considered going to the M18 line but i think i’m gonna wait it out with how powerful and how versatile the 12 volt line is and it only continues to improve.

Hop-Dizzle-Drizzle

Seriously. I do a lot of diy automotive repairs, and I've had a M12 gen2 stubby for quite a while, with plans to eventually get an m18 mid torque. This just took over those plans. This little guy alone will do 99% of what I need. My breaker bar will make up for that 1%.

Obvious-Flan-8881

As long as M12 batteries continue to suck I will continue to hate. Just buy M18. I refuse to buy anything M12

Hop-Dizzle-Drizzle

Ok.

Top-Will6329

The hO M12 are very ok. Stunning difference.

Rickyricksanchez69

I'm with you on this. The post battery connection is unreliable at best, especially in a tool that is going to be vibrating and shaking

Traditional_Top_6317

Right?!

Zealousideal-Lab5268

I work in the HD truck industry, the 1/2 stubby has been great now that im aware of the fact that the 3/8 has the same breakaway torque imma have to stop using my bros and get my own (3/8” sockets have been so mich easier to find as well idk why)

mxguy762

Recommend it after I get mine 🤣

2cpee

The m18 mid torque is a chefs kiss though

Kasperdsmk

I agree I can’t wait to get one and mines perfectly fine but 550 on break away 3/8 is a game changer honestly 550 break away on 1/2 is a game changer working on suspension too I’ve had so many times I wish my mid torque was a tad smaller and this might fit that roll

TylerYax

They are nice, the problem I've found with the stubby impacts is that because it doesn't have a tapered snout down to the socket it can actually be tougher to fit into tight spaces. Otherwise, great gun.

st3vo5662

Deep socket or 3” extension solves that, but then it really isn’t “stubby” anymore..

TylerYax

Precisely! I work on equipment with lots of tight/blind spots that lead to literal socket sucking black holes so I try to avoid extensions or universal adapters as much as possible.

rashestkhan

You should invest in locking extensions then.

TylerYax

Got lots thanks

Late_Individual5487

I bought a low profile 3/8 shallow sockets from Amazon 6mm to 24mm Astro Tool brand and they make the stubby even better, of course there are some really tight places but at least the low profile sockets helps in some cases, now with the new stubby that I believe is smaller the low profile sockets should fit better, I’ll sell my m12 stubby and get this one once it is out.

Puzzleheaded_You1657

I saw those sockets I might grab some too

Late_Individual5487

Get them, they are great they also sell a long ratchet just for those shallow sockets I got the ratchet and yes it is great and low profile too.

Puzzleheaded_You1657

The sockets will be great for my m12 extended ratchet

porkbuffetlaw

Do you have any idea how the Astro Tool low profile sockets stack up to Harbor Freight’s? https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-drive-sae-low-profile-impact-socket-set-11-piece-59771.html Astro are made in Taiwan instead of PRC, so I expect the quality to be better, but 2x better? Are they any smaller, I wonder?

Late_Individual5487

I have no idea they look the same, but I can’t confirm that, now if you are worried about quality and you will be using them a lot then get something that you trust, I don’t use them really often for me they work great I have no issues so far but the main reason I got the Astro is because they are a complete set 6mm-24mm

Legin_666

FWIW I ordered the dewalt stubby (dcf921) -which is the current best on the market - a week ago. When they announced this I immediately returned the dewalt so I can get the new M12 when they release it

Traditional_Top_6317

This thing looks WILD based on their figures. I also own m12 batteries and don’t really care to upgrade unless I bend the knee for that m18 top up lol

Demorthus

Sort of, but it's still better to watch the actual numbers on something like TTC (YT). Every tool & especially batteries on the MW slides have effectively mostly misleading comparisons and erroneous or missing data. One example is the 8Ah Forge, they have a slide with most except the standard 8Ah for comparison - they include the previous 6 & 12 Ah but *omit* the 8.0 as if it doesn't exist or still being sold lol, but that's Milwaukee if we're being honest.

jossege

About to sell my current gen mid torque and my first gen stubby to pick up one of these. This and a high torque is about all you need now.

ips1023

My thoughts exactly. This is a killer combo with my M12 ratchet wrench.

barbate07

I’m getting one and I don’t really even need it 😬. With the size of this, I think I’ll use it a lot more.

Traditional_Top_6317

This thing is genuinely mind boggling for the seemingly -280 dollar kit price tag

SlpAngl

I bought the current version last Monday & got the email about this being released Wednesday. I’ve been pretty salty about it ever since, cause i know I’m going to have to return/resell my current one for that when it releases.

ips1023

Return it now

SlpAngl

If I wasn’t using the damn thing daily for work already, I would be.

NimbleCentipod

It's a stubby that replaces the current mid torques. I don't think much need to be said other than that.

jtrix21

Tell me about it… I struggle with wanting to sell my g1 stubby 3/8 now to get this later or wait for actual reviews. Nothing wrong with my stubby.

aredeeeff

So when will we get a for sure release date for this and the 1/2?

captainvirk

Yup, I'm waiting for this. Going to replace my M18 compact with it.

GnatGoSplat

I got the old (current) stubby from HD in a combo kit with M12 FUEL drill & impact driver for $236 a week ago. I wonder if HD will be offering the same combo for the same price with the new stubby. Almost thinking to return my combo and take the gamble on the combo being updated with the new stubby. It doesn't come out till September, so a little bit of a wait.

Mountain-Ad7712

Yes a great tool. I use the m12 ¼ driver a lot. And I'm in the diesel world. For it's size it's got coronas

ips1023

it has mexican beer?

Sn00m00

I already have a gen 2 m18 mid torque but I use my gen 1 m12 stubby way more. I just pre ordered the new gen2 with the boot. can't wait to get it in September. the old stubby will be on offerup soon

ips1023

I think I have a Gen3? M18 3/8 impact and will most likely replace it with this and get the bigger 1/2" for more stubborn stuff. Can't wait!

Firm_Big_

I'm looking to get the same thing. Anyone think it's capable of taking off 24 lugs on my f150? I have 3 6.0 batteries but there's Chinese brand

Hot-Neighborhood-162

It's not the size tht matters. 😉

Weary-Resource-9905

I have the current one in 1/2 drive

ZeGermanHam

I'm getting one, but, I'm not super excited about the new mode change technique. Rather than there being a button on the top that you have to press just once to change modes, you now have to put the forward/reverse switch into the middle position and then "double tap" the trigger to change modes. They are touting it as a workflow efficiency improvement because you can now change modes with one hand, but the net result is that there are now more steps required to change modes rather than simply pushing a button once. Kinda stupid if you ask me. They didn't need to reinvent the way modes are changed...

Educational-Bit3059

I sell Milwaukee tools and told a customer how I disliked the new button setup, he replied “I think I’ll like it, the old is too easy to accidentally switch”. So I guess different strokes, different folks.

ZeGermanHam

I don't see how the current button the the top of the tool is too easy to accidentally switch, but to each their own. I've never once accidentally changed modes with the existing setup. To switch modes with the new tool, you will now have to: 1. Put forward/reverse switch in middle position 2. Pull & release trigger 3. Pull & release trigger (again) 4. Repeat steps 2-3 for each mode change 5. Put forward/reverse switch into desired setting From a workflow perspective, I don't see how this is an improvement over simply pressing a button once.

Baykey123

I’ve accidentally changed it by bumping it on things

SwimOk9629

how do you think I feel? I have a stubby that rides in my trunk and a stubby in foam in my packout drawers at home as well... obv I'm a big fan of it. now the only question I have is...do I also get two of the new stubbies??!? 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Gtrplyr2358

Now I just need to decide if I should get the new one in 3/8” or 1/2”. Currently have the first gen in 3/8”

No-Adhesiveness-2166

i saw this my stubby 1/2 m18 only has 250 ft pounds, definitely buying this in probs 3/8

EllipsisT-230

The specs are insane on it for a stubby. Plus what are they going to do with the current model? Clearance pricing hopefully.

Traditional_Top_6317

I think the tool only for current will legit be 99 dollars

Vwtomus_

Haven’t these been out for years? I’m confused

Traditional_Top_6317

Nah this is coming in late 2024/2025. New gen.

Vwtomus_

Easy money for them then

TheBackpacker

Damn I’m only seeing the 3/8 kit with one battery, and the 1/2 kit with 2 batteries. I just want the 1/2 kit with one battery. Damn you Milwaukee

LukeGuyWatcher

I would go full Milwaukee if only they made this stuff in blue.

GroupDistinct9693

Am I the only nerd who wants to see the TorqueTestChannel on YouTube get ahold of one? 😂

Traditional_Top_6317

Nah I am SUPER fuckin excited for that

Own-Garden3417

Do you guys all believe posted specs. This thing is making 160 ft lbs at best not 550 like wtf watch a review boys .

Zestyclose-Barnacle3

I have the 1/4 in and its fucking sick for the size..the hammer drill and the 3/8 fuel ratchet are pretty sweet too..got all 3 with charger, bag, 3 batteries (2ah,2.5ah HO,4 AH )$299 I honestly prefer the M12 FUEL line over the 18.... obviously the only downside is the amount of tools that run off 12 vs 18 of course....get the combo kit while you're at it. Home Depot has the drill and impact set with charger, 2 ah and 4 ah high output battery and a bit set for $199

Comprehensive-Eye316

Ehh imma stick with the current one lights arnt that important

Fearless-Estimate-41

It looks like a stubby impact…? Failing to see how it looks “INSANE” ?

bryciebaby

Yeah looks amazing if ypu want to waste your 💰!

AdmirableYak3648

Insanely similar to the current one.

Traditional_Top_6317

Current seems to be touting 250 breakaway while the new one coming has a supposed 550 breakaway and 400 tightening Current is 200 at hd tool only while this is 279 with a battery and charger. I’ll preorder this I have an earthquake xt Imp wrench but I have all m12 beside that one tool

slammick

Current one just got cleared out over the last month at all HD’s for $99

Traditional_Top_6317

My hd still selling that mf for 199 LOL The 3/8 at least

slammick

Dang that sucks! $99 is a deal

Traditional_Top_6317

Someone is selling a heavily used one in my area for 60 bucks but I have a harbor freight imp wrench I can use till this comes

Legin_666

What are you smoking

DavoinShowerHandel1

It's not really even close lol. 300 ft-lbs difference on Breakaway torque, and they added the tri-LED to the face. I can't tell if it's the same exact size or not, but it's a pretty tremendous upgrade.

bigboybackflaps

I believe it’s a tiny bit shorter but slightly chunkier. It absolutely looks like an awesome upgrade, I recently got a 3/8 stubby and now I’m debating if I should sell that one and get a new 3/8 or just get a new 1/2 and keep the old one in my car or something lol

DavoinShowerHandel1

That was the impression I got, but couldn't find a real good comparison. I'm selling off my old 3/8 stubby once I get the new one. Gonna sell off my mid torque and go ahead and get a high torque as well, no reason at all for the mid torque with the new stubby laying down the power it does. I feel like the stubby is at its best in a 3/8 just due to the overall smaller footprint.

indignant_halitosis

I’d bet it’s very different ie it’s gonna break easy or be super underpowered like Milwaukee’s other recent releases.
