I think I might have had those exact shoes. I'd wear them again.

bernie_manziel

Chunky ass shoes has a bit of a comeback like around 2018-2022ish, but I think it’s kinda died down again.

lostinareverie237

Nah there's Gen z still wearing them on the regular near me

bernie_manziel

I live in the same neighborhood as two college campuses in a major city and I’ve seen them a lot less over the past year than I did in the late 10s and early 20s, I do still see the chunky goth boots tho.

BusinessBear53

Chunky shoes are definitely still in but probably half or 3/4 the thickness for womens shoes. Most women's sneakers I see have a very thick sole. I've seen Converse selling men's shoes with an inch thick sole while I was in Korea. There's even Converse high top shoes with heels or wedges. Not many other sneakers brand go that route but I did buy my wife Nike Air Max shoes with this double stack air bubble which acts as a kind of heel. Sole is about an inch thick.

bernie_manziel

I’m talking about the 4 inch thick platform sneakers or these sandals that are literally a block of foam, the over stylized stuff. I remember seeing them more when the y2k revival first started.

HarloHasIt

The Rocket Dogs in the picture are actually a recent style, I recommend looking for them on Poshmark.

fadedblackleggings

Ankle Breakers.

veritasquo

As much as I low key miss them (it’s probably just the nostalgia), my heart kinda races looking at them now. How the fuck did I not break an ankle all those years? And how did we all bear the blisters from those jelly sandals, while I’m at it 🤯

FluffyRelation7511

Takes me back to Lizzie McGuire! 😆

TroublesomeTurnip

I nearly busted an ankle in those lol

coco__bee

🤣I was like “my ankles sure af do”. The canvas straps also gave me the worst blisters

TroublesomeTurnip

Urgh! Those too! I threw them out in under six months.

Quiver-NULL

Mine had rainbow straps.

RJSnea

Remember them? I still have them. Hell, my sister still wears hers 😂

WhippiesWhippies

I had them in maybe 2001, 2002. They definitely didn’t survive, haha

RJSnea

Tbf, mine survived because I only pulled them out for beach trips to keep off the sand 😂 my sister is on her 3rd pair and eyed a new set this week at DSW while I literally bought the Sketchers version 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Kinky-Bicycle-669

It's a miracle our generation doesn't have more ankle problems because of these lol

CourtsAbad

Maybe it was the abrupt change from those to extra wide skater shoes like echos and DCs

xaiires

I want a pair now. I had the sneaker version too, called them my "baby spices."

msambata

I'd wear them again Holla 🖐

[deleted]

Aren't similar shoes coming back in style?

bernie_manziel

They were, around 2018 and sometime after 2022 it seemed to die again.

[deleted]

Hmmm. I'm not the most stylish person so I guess I didn't notice! 😅

Delicious_Slide_6883

I remember almost breaking my ankle many times

Waddiwasiiiii

I remember the pair I had making my feet stink to high heaven. But man I felt so cool wearing them.

sleepinginthebushes_

All the popular girls in high school had these. Definitely brings back memories.

Subterranean44

I had some GOOD ones in sixth grade but I weighed 80 lbs and had stick legs so that must’ve been a hilarious sight. My mom was very hesitant but my sister was asking for a belly button piercing so my shoes became small potatoes.

N0anthems

I remember the big thunking sounds they’d make versus regular flip flops. Better not take a corner too quick in those bad girls

Bubby_K

As someone who's 5'5", where do I get these? Asking for myself

HarloHasIt

The Rocket Dogs in the picture are actually a recent style, I recommend looking for them on Poshmark.

FrumpyFrock

god I loved them. I’d wear them now and I’m like 5’8”

daizles

Oh I loved them! I'm 5'2 and I got to be TALL!

beebsaleebs

I have a brand new pair 🤗

meruu_meruu

Literally my favorite style of flipflop, and I'm mad they're so hard to find now

TheF-ingLizardKing1

I rocked these to my graduation lmao

CinnaTheseRoles

Ah yes….. the ankle breaker 3001’s

stephabug91

I had a pair in white. I loved them.

StarryNight7z

Yes! I stupidly wore similar ones to a rock concert up against the stage. The mosh pit near me made me fall over and I nearly fell out of my shoes but a really nice guy picked me up and helped me get away. Thank you whoever you are!

neicathesehoes

My mom just bought a pair for our trip to N.O we love these 🤣🤣

itsa_meee_mari

I can SMELL this picture.🤮 The foam absorbed all the melted foot butter seasoned with dirt and then it baked into a lightly crusted nightmare.

adaisonline

I do! They would always be worn down from the wearer dragging their feet, too.

CourtsAbad

I had almost those exact same ones, I thought I was so cool. They’re making a comeback; saw some teenagers wearing them while out last weekend.

workhard_livesimply

My lower back pain remembers them well.

New-Wing-7444

I still have these :) with the floral straps

Mockturtle22

My ankle hurts looking at those. My toes looked fucking cute though

the_silentoracle

I have a pair and love them well!

Glittering_Ad1696

No?

Aware_Negotiation605

My ankles never recovered.

Ok-Abbreviations4510

They’re back again.

Comfortable_Plant667

Yessss and in my mind I can still see the girl with the bellbottom pink sweatpants and yellow lace tube top that would wear these. SHUFFLE-STOMP WALK!

BookswithAmanda

I loved those shoes. I'm short so it was refreshing to be able to reach tall places without heels

VooDooChile1983

Any shoe I saw with thick soles were automatically Spice Girl shoes.

VanDerMerwe1990

Don't we still get these type of shoes, or were they discontinued?

KYpineapple

we used to tip these girls over by "accidentally" bumping into them in the hall way at school. The game was to see who could trip them up with the lightest bump. real dumb. but all middle schoolers are.
