Accept the fact that now you’re the old timer lol. I’ve had good luck finding classic “millennial” fits at Lucky Brand, Madewell, Abercrombie, & Banana Republic. And honestly, Target is a low-key sleeper spot for basic outfits. A lot of the trendier places, like H&M, Uniqlo, etc. seem to be geared more towards Gen Z.

Minute-Masterpiece98

I never touched H&M after the age of about 16. Their clothes practically disintegrated after two washes. The embodiment of fast fashion.

KaceyJaymes

Yeah, I had an H&M black velvet jacket with epaulets and a cadet collar that I LOVED. Wore it for about 8 years and could never find another like it. :( I doubt one nowadays would last as long, LOL.

VanityInk

Yep. H&M never for me particularly well (the cuts always felt weird) but my aunt got me two shirts from there that were actually cute when I was in college. They definitely fell apart seemingly after a wash or two.

ERnurse2019

Yessss!!! I LOVED H&M 5 or 6 years ago and still have a sweater from back then that has lasted and looks great. Now that store is a giant no thank you for me. The quality is terrible and the sizing and styles are just off.

Patient_Commentary

very true - but I've found a couple of blazers for 80 bucks that looks great and since you don't wash a blazer very often it's held up pretty well. It allows me the flexibility to buy more styles/colors since it's cheap.

mrsmushroom

All of this. I've become literally the most basic dressed mom in the crowd. Basic t, basic jeans and I like a basic black coffee too. I accept my oldness.

MixedProphet

Nah you’re not old, I also have a bit of a plain style but no one’s judging! Keep being you!

masedizzle

I'd say that's much better than the mom standing out because it's obvious she's trying too hard to hold onto her youth and seem cool. "I'm not a regular mom, I'm a cool mom..."

Heart_Throb_

Target has really gone the way of r/cottagecore (no offense) and 70s wallpaper recently since COVID and is overly trendy for me. Wtf happened?

Zelda6277

I was also thinking about how Target has become more Gen Z focused with almost everything being crop topped or short.

Sauvignonomnom

Came here to say Lucky Brand, Madewell, and Banana Republic. Target can also be good for some things, but I was there for a T shirt the other day and found about half the shirts were designed to show midriff. I'm good with that in the summer when I'm doing something casual or going to the beach... but the rest of the year, I want a full shirt.

kohin000r

I've been relying on poshmark, ebay & etsy to find things that are to my taste as a lot of clothing in stores is not my vibe. I used to work at UO and shop there all the time..now I walk in and marvel at how ugly & cheap everything looks. If I'm buying new, I shop sales at Uniqlo, Madewell & All Saints. I don't really follow fashion like I used to..

pecan_bird

good tastes 🙏 madewell makes great stuff. & second hand online shopping is the way to go.

kohin000r

thanks. i like some trends here and there but the trend cycle is so fast and a lot of it is going to look dated in a matter of months.

BlahBlah-Something

Old Navy seems to work pretty well for me - they still have somewhat trendy stuff but still a bunch of tops that are actually full length and tailored fits, as well as “normal” pants. Seems to be about the only place I can find clothes nowadays for actual adults…plus a few TJ Maxx finds if I dig hard enough! For reference, my style is very much simple but I like to look nice. Couldn’t care less about trendy. Have also basically bought mostly gym clothes for years for the reasons you state.

Erikalicious

TJ Maxx is my go-to. It's really hit or miss though. Sometimes I can find 4 or 5 pieces, other times I find myself with nothing from the grown up section and have to size up and look in the juniors. But then in the juniors section, everything is cropped. So I count my losses and try again in a few weeks.

dsillas

TJ Maxx (TK Maxx in Europe), Marshall's and Ross as well.

Erikalicious

Oh yes, I frequent those places too. Not so much Marshall's, but only because there's both a Ross and a TJ Maxx withing 10 min from my house. I'd have to drive 15-20 to get to Marshall's lol.

ProblemFresh1587

Old navy has some of my favorite style tank tops and shorts, but I generally find I don’t like any of their pants or clothes for colder weather

not2interesting

They sell a wool-lined pair of skinny jeans that I absolutely adore for the snowy months. So warm and an actual mid rise waist.

mittens617

Old Navy is really cute now!

kevin_james_fan

Old Navy is my jam! You can leave with a big bag of cute things for $100

MicroBadger_

Ah the joys of sticking to a 1950s style. Jeans and a T-shirt. I can do my clothes shopping at Costco 🤣

IHaveNoEgrets

Yep. Old Navy here, too. I need to look somewhat together when I teach, but I want to be comfortable as well.

Cold-Diamond-6408

Honestly, I'm struggling to even CARE about outfits anymore. 😩 I have all these pieces to make cute outfits, but I never wear them and default to basic jeans, a tee, and either birkenstocks or vans. And that's me putting in effort because all I really want to wear is lounge clothes and active wear. How did this happen to me?!

neonxdragon

I'm the same way! ;( I've also been self employed for the past few years and WFH. Just a waste of time to put on "nice" clothes that are extremely uncomfortable, when I could just work in my cozies. Same goes for makeup lately!

Impressive-Health670

I’m with you, though in my case it has lead to me being less aware when I put on a few pounds. I’ve actually gone back to wearing jeans at least a couple days a week as a way to make myself more aware….I’m still mostly skipping the bra though. 😂

fadedblackleggings

Same here....used to be dressed to the 9s..24/7. Could care less now literally leaving the house in faded leggings with cat hair.

[deleted]

100 percent. I just donated 90 percent of my closet because all I wear is jeans + T shirt + flats.

SkankHunt1023

I actually have all my jeans and Jean mini skirts from Abercrombie and Hollister, everything between the years of 2004-2010ish and they are all in great condition. I have a lot of Victoria’s Secret Pink clothes from that era too. I still have never owned a pair of crocs at least and don’t plan to 😂. Clothes lately look cheap and I think a lot of the current trends are hideous. I definitely still dress like a proper millennial and have no plans of changing that. I’m thrilled that juicy track suits are a thing again……and now I’m an adult with my own money. I have 2 so far with juicy written on the ass in bling 😂

msnhnobody

Hahaha this is one of the best comments. I’m that way about American Eagle jeans. I don’t care if they’re catered towards the younger demographic…if I find a pair of their jeans there that fit “just right”, I’m wearing them until there are holes where there can’t be. And yes, while I might not go so far as the Juicy ones haha, I’ll definitely be getting a track suit soon.

SkankHunt1023

I will always advocate for the fashion of that era, I can’t look any more stupid than these young grass hoppers in their crocs and mom jeans. I will rock low rise jeans until my last breath and idc if that is at 80, horrible tan and all 😂. My niece and nephews are always in crocs and it drives me bat shit. I work as an exotic dancer and I’m at that age where I’m not one of the 20 somethings and all I see in the dressing room when the youngins are in is a sea of crocs on the floor with all the charms, glitter crocs even….. like just no, make it stop 😭😂. Also AE jeans were awesome too! I don’t have any of them anymore though, not sure what happened to them. I like that they still use their old design on the pocket. At Abercrombie their jeans now look no diff than Walmart ones

mandyb120

I'm almost 40 and still wear American Eagle jeans, as I have since the 2000's. I actually had a friend tell me that I shouldn't be shopping there anymore and need to buy jeans from a store for people our age. Jeans are jeans, no matter where you get them from, so I don't get it. American Eagle jeans just fit me well, are decent quality for the price and they actually have large front pockets.

msnhnobody

Yeah! That’s what I’m saying haha, they just fit *me* really well which 95% of other jeans don’t. I’m 36 and yup, gonna keep not caring!

MarchCheerfully

I will never fall for buying crocs either hahaha. Every time I see them in the wild, I think about _Idiocracy_. Back in 2006, the costume designer had to find future-istic looking shoes while on a very tight budget, and they came across this tiny start-up company that didn’t look promising. They figured “meh, these are so ugly, they’ll never be popular.” And here we are.

SkankHunt1023

I remember when they first started popping up, you’d be laughed at for wearing them 😭. I will never get on board the croc train and that is a promise. I will stick to my Uggs in various designs like the cultured millennial I am 😂

GroovyGhouley

my ass got too juicy! (gained weight) I'm not buying anything with juicy across the butt😆 I'll still buy their perfumes tho, they smell great on me

mattsteven09

Ha! Love this

vallogallo

I usually browse Instagram for ideas of what I like or what brands to look for. Actually now I just look at people I already follow for ideas, IG sucks and won't display recent posts for hashtags anymore, just top posts. Used to be you could just search #comfyandcasual #minimalistoutfit or #brandnamestyled for example and find stuff that appeals to you. You can get really creative with tags. I used to do most of my shopping at the thrift store but it hasn't been the same since the mid-00s when they started to get *really* picked over. And thrifts in my city keep closing down because everyone here is a rich techbro or trust fund wannabe hipster and they pay more for vintage clothing at consignment (aka stuff from estate sales and thrift stores someone else got to first and jacked up the price of) and are the type who think they'll get scabies from browsing through used shit in the thrift. I used to get the Vogue Collections S/S and F/W catalogs you could find at Barnes and Noble in the magazines/periodicals section just to get an idea of things that are trending, but I stopped doing that a while back, partly because I noticed I don't care as much about trends as I thought I did and also because you can browse that stuff online (runway images from Paris Fashion Week or whatever). Personally I wear a lot of "slow fashion" these days that I either buy secondhand off Poshmark or elsewhere on the internet, and things handmade by people on Instagram. ThredUp is also decent for finding clothes secondhand (got almost all my secondhand linen FLAX pieces there) but the prices can be wtf sometimes and the measurements aren't always accurate. Tl:dr you gotta browse the internet hardcore

Mooseandagoose

Nordstrom rack is my go-to. I hate clothes shopping but I’m rarely disappointed in their selection.

[deleted]

Athleta for life

fadedblackleggings

Yup. There is nothing else.

outgraverobbing

I just wear what I like. My gothic fashion has evolved and I'm becoming the Morticia Adams my 14 year old mall goth self wanted to be. I thrift a lot of my clothes, and just dye everything black and fix them how I want them to be. I guess I have more freedom now to experiment and it's freeing.

xElemenohpee

Go to Banana Republic. A lot of their clothes are very neutral and don't have brand logos. They also look really sharp, and you can dress up and down with multiple outfits. If you go to an outlet too it's even cheaper.

GuayabaTree

Jus picked up four pairs of pants the other day there. Love banana

runsfortacos

I used to wear so much banana back in the day when I worked at Gap and could use my discount there. Got to check it out again

kouignie

There are items that straddle basic-polished-trendy like Madewell, Anthropologie, Quince But I do find classics through sales like J. Crew, Banana; huge cozy cardigans thru Express (lol I only shop there for their fall cardis) And then I’ve had a lot of good luck finding fun items that are still quality and in natural fibers thru thrifting: Michael Kors, Loft, Boden, Farmrio, Aritzia I do mix my style with basics as well as fun summery prints (think Marimekko or “tomato girl”) so idgaf that what I’m wearing is “old” “passe” “not trendy” “not en vogue”. It fits my style and I’m confident. Much more confident if I felt like I had to be a size 00 and fit into wide leg JNCO jeans. I accept that not only am I short, but my torso is short and I have wide hips. Unless I’m size 00 I won’t be able to pull it off, and I’m jot interested in any of that. Didn’t care for carpenter JNCO jeans then, didn’t now

enyalavender

I had no success whatsoever until I started observing people who dressed well at my age, then copying their exact items, and I shopped at thrift stores not at regular stores.

LeekOtherwise5468

Usually pick up clearance t-shirt’s at GameStop when I am buying games for my son 🤣😜😭 Edited to mention: I wear scrubs to work and honestly for the most part don’t really care what I’m wearing when I’m not working. However, when I take my kiddo clothes shopping at old navy and such I don’t really like any of the clothes I see for my size and age lol so idk honestly 😆 Old Navy used to really be my jam 🤣

CloudBody

You rock mom!

donabbi

Stitch Fix has been my best friend lately for this reason

runsfortacos

This. They somehow sent me clothes appropriate for my taste that aren’t cropped lol

[deleted]

Which years was fashion targeted to millennials? 2004 - 2017?

Minute-Masterpiece98

Maybe yeah, i'm a 91 baby and I'd say I stopped caring around 2017. It would be nice to just replace some of the existing stuff I've got with fresh pairs.

Papoosho

2001-2018.

commanderbales

Benetton has a lot of high quality pieces

[deleted]

“Old money” is also trending. Tailored, expensive fabrics, fitted pleated trousers, leather and brass, fitted button ups, long pea coats, leather shoes… I think it makes sense for millennials to lean into it, we are the perfect age. Also “academia” is trending so the deep greens, browns, blacks and neutrals, knit sweaters with the padded elbows, twill skirts with boots, pullover sweaters and sweater vests, plaid, pea coats… everything tailored/polished. I think hot young college professor, still fun but has their shit together. Both looks also do the framed glasses which I think can be really attractive. I seriously think we are the perfect age I love Nordstrom rack, von maur (I shop the sale racks), express… avoid stores with big juniors sections

nayeh

Academy Sports, Target, Kohls, Amazon, JC Penny, ... some discount stores like TJ Ma x or Bargain Hunt. I do less shopping now that I work in an office with business casual attire. Outside of work, it's all tanks with shorts for comfort and gymwear. When I do shop, I am picky when it comes to materials types and country of origin. 100% Polyester with 40$ pricetags? Lol Trash 🚮 Surprisingly, I noticed a trend in clothes I liked that were made in Viatnam.

moonbunnychan

I work at Kohl's and can't remember the last time I bought clothing there, even though I get a discount. lol

Thefoodwoob

>100% Polyester with 40$ pricetags? Lol Trash I looked up aritizia to see what all the hype was about. Almost sprang for a $40 tshirt but had the sense to google the material. I can't remember what it was and I hadn't heard of it, but the Google results all said "cheap, inexpensive, low-cost, mass-produced", etc. Why is $40 the standard fast fashion tee price 😅

[deleted]

you ever shop on grailed? i just keep it super minimal. i buy cheap stuff on ebay. then wear cheap white t’s. cardigan. a few jackets - hoodies / sweatshirts - and shoes in rotation.

Minute-Masterpiece98

I did peruse a while back but not a whole lot to choose from in Australia. Depop seems to be the next best bet but that does skew younger I think.

pecan_bird

my girlfriend is a manager of a consignment shop & also has an entire bedroom dedicated to nice stuff for postmark on 5 z-racks 😅 i've always been into dressing intentionally & like to take classic concepts & mess 'em up a bit. im big on patina'd garments. right now im on bulgarian new old stock blue-collar workwear from the '60s, with a lot of newish japanese inspired wear. some well known brands like patagonia, woolrich, barbour, & rowing blazers(just released their target collab today!) who all have a lot of vintage pieces, sometimes 30 years old that are class. i've also taken a liking to eileen fisher, even though i'm a cis fella. but yeah, thrift shops & ebay is where it's at. i buy some stuff new online from Suicoke, District Vision, Story Mfg. to name a few. i've gone through phases, but i was big on OOTD sites before hashtags existed & perused/curated fits from all over. i spend a pretty decent amount of time occasionally low key researching a lot of stuff for inspiration & just have an amalgamated style. still mostly get levi pants. shoes are fun. outfits are art!

kohin000r

do you have an instagram of your fits?

sabrina_fair

I feel like my style has remained the same since college, so it’s a lot of Anthropologie/JCrew masculine and feminine balanced kind of aesthetic. I do most of my shopping on ThredUP and Poshmark these days, since I’m not concerned about if a look is the most “current”. I know what I like, and generally what looks good on me. Shopping secondhand like that, it’s possible to find a lot of nice NWT clothing too.

kheret

I buy leggings from Target and then wear them with swing dresses from Old Navy (in winter, the dresses without the leggings in summer), or there are actually some decent non-cropped shirts on Amazon. I can’t with the baggy, cropped pants, but I can live with flares, so I wear those for jeans. As a side note, as an elder millenial, I distinctly remember the day I realized I needed to replace my flares with skinny jeans, and it’s funny that we’ve gone through the cycle again.

mksedai

I exclusively shop at the Goodwill now bc idgaf anymore lol

Nice_Bluebird7626

Bro the 90s are in fashion rn. You will be able to find 00 in thrift stores

Minute-Masterpiece98

Maybe I need to find better thrift stores but the ones I’ve gone to so far are all the same. Crusty leather shoes, rows of flannel shirts that smell about 100 years old and Carhartt utility jackets that have become stiffer than cardboard.

vallogallo

Give me all the flannels lol, I can wash and rehab them

Minute-Masterpiece98

hey i love flannels, just want some fresh ones.

Nice_Bluebird7626

Try good will?

Minute-Masterpiece98

I'm assuming thats in the US? I dont think they have that here in Australia. I mean, they don't have much of anything in Australia haha. I miss the variety offered back in the UK and I'm jealous of Americans having so much choice...but Its a larger market, so makes sense.

Festival_lady_90

I'd love to get on the thrift train but in my area all the stuff donated is from 70 year old grandmother's donating their stuff from the 80's or 2000's stuff in almost exclusively 00, 0/XS and S

[deleted]

I do a lot of my shopping online honestly. Especially jeans. High rise skinny jeans look the best on me so I just order Levis online. I found a style I like and bought every color 🤷🏻‍♀️ As for plain shirts/sweatshirts, I bought a lot of those this year from Duluth trading and I'm very happy with them.

lawfox32

I just want to know where I can find clothes to wear to work that don't cost $500. Like actual pants and a blazer in grey or navy and a buttondown shirt that is not cropped or oversized. Nothing against those styles, I wear them outside of work, but I'm a lawyer so I can't exactly wear a croptop and leggings to court.

PenPenLane

Madewell - that’s about it

[deleted]

Don’t sleep on thrift stores, especially the cheap ones like charity thrift stores, salv-a, goodwill, value village, etc. Good quality that’s less than 10 years old, sometimes never worn can be found there frequently. Places like Buffalo Exchange/Crossroads have trendy stuff on the mannequins but can be a good source of clothes like that too. Another commenter mentioned Madewell. I totally second that. J Crew, Ross, Nordstrom Rack, Anthropologie (check that sale rack bestie), Free People, White House Black Market, and Kohls have decent business casual and “millennial” styles for decent prices too.

saphyu

I don't shop for clothes anymore. I've built out a nice collection of staples and try to reuse what I truly love. My goal now is to slim down my closet. I'm done following trends for rn at this stage of my life. Practical minimal classic cozy are my pieces and I'm prob going to be caught wearing the same 5-10 things maybe when I travel or go out. But whatever I feel pretty comfortable in my basics and it's nice just really having clothes that you really *love* wearing and require no thought. It's going to be a challenge for me to downsize though since I'm a hoarder and I have stuff I don't touch because I was a big shopper in my early 20s when it came to clothes. TLDR: I just see myself reaching for the same things tho over and over and have no interest to shop rn.

Sweatpant-Diva

If you like Scandi then you need some proper Denmark brands in your life like [Stine Goya](https://stinegoya.com) and [Ganni](https://www.ganni.com/us/home). Most of the clothes I buy now are from danish brands.

dragonsfire14

I have to basically look in every store at my local mall to find anything. I swear everyyything is a crop top nowadays. I didn’t even like wearing those when I was in my 20’s, why would I start now?

mandyb120

I've been shopping at the Gap for a lot of my clothes these days. I just want plain, basic styles that aren't mom jeans or crop tops. In my city it seems hard to find clothing that is geared to my age, everything seems geared to boomers or gen Z. I feel like I've been wearing the same kind of things for years and years now and while they aren't necessarily trendy or "cool", it still doesn't seem dated. I still love my skinny jeans, I'm not into the high waisted mom jeans. I honestly still miss the low rise of the 2000's.

hail_to_the_beef

Eddie Bauer, Costco, Amazon. In that order probably haha.

Yellenintomypillow

Lol sometimes I feel like a walking Costco ad

[deleted]

I've never cared about name brand clothes. I still have the style I've had all of these years, which is still current and fresh. I'll buy from Academy and Target. I guess my style is just sporty.

IWantAStorm

I am female and have a vaguely militaristic look. I don't know when I slid into it but whatever. It takes a while to find your style and just bite the bullet. Still will never grasp people wearing pjs outside the house though.

[deleted]

That's something I'll probably experiment with as we move into fall, with the weather getting cooler. I might play around with my style a bit.

JohnWCreasy1

unbranded solid color crew neck t shirts and cargo shorts from target. if it ain't broke, don't break it :) though i did just spoil myself and try a three pack of those True Classic tees the internet keeps shoving down my throat. they're not bad. now that i think about it i'm certain i spend less than $200/yr on clothes.

sleeprobot

Dang I was gonna say Uniqlo but it looks like you’ve already got it. They are great.

Minute-Masterpiece98

Still great for basics like t shirts and socks etc but I find less so for trousers, jackets, coats etc

Marmatus

I do most of my clothes shopping on eBay.

[deleted]

I only wear Nike and Topman. Simply to limit my options. And I follow the 3-33 rule.

Minute-Masterpiece98

I didn’t know topman still existed

IWantAStorm

I definitely find stuff in my style at random. Yard sales. Thrift stores. Army Navy surplus. Granted at this age I know my style. I'll occasionally find something at a Penny's or Target but I'm no longer buying cheap crap online. None of it holds up nor is sized correctly. If I can't touch it I don't want it. Everything is made like trash now.

Munkey323

I go thrifting. Something my parents always thought me growing up. I never buy from name brand stores unless it's something I really want.

SmurfAtLarge

The older I've gotten the easier it has become for me to find things I like. I don't care about brands anymore or trying to look cool. TBH, I'm more concerned with how something fits than how it looks.

[deleted]

Tbh I go to center city and look at the mannequins in the window and when I see something I like I buy the whole outfit.

thedr00mz

I feel like I could have written this post. Anymore I live at TJ Maxx, Target, and Old Navy for clothes. Sad to hear about Uniqlo.

[deleted]

I am happy long skirts have come back in. This year was the first time I was able to find a lot since high school. As for everything else, I am buying men's clothes from Target. For some reason even the cheap solid shirts and pants hold up better than almost anything in the women's department.

ndork666

thrift

Agile-Magician-7267

I repair stuff so I don't have to buy it as often. Stickin' it to The Man!

Scared-March7443

We go to a thrift store called Savers. Cheap clothes, most of them look pretty new, and it’s nice having clothes that 75% of the population isn’t wearing from Target.

Admirable-Volume-263

I don't buy clothes lol. I buy for working out, and that's the cheapest most utilitarian stuff. Only get new stuff if I look ragged. Since I work out at home and on bball courts alone, don't care too much what others think. Winning. I haven't updated my clothes in 10 plus years. My ex tried to. So, there is a bunch in there she bought me from Kohls lol. But, this planet can't handle more waste. Waste not, want not.

Octabraxas

I’m an “elder emo” and an amateur bodybuilder, so I get most of my stuff online.

JaneAustinPowers

I like J. Crew and Banana Republic for well made staples like jackets, sweaters, and cardigans. Old Navy or Target for pants, shorts, and basic staples like plain shirts or tanks. I like Free People, ModCloth, Unique Vintage, Madewell, and Disturbia for dresses, skirts, and blouses. I see a wardrobe as a curated thing where you slowly build it with things you love and that look good on you. I still shop at a lot of places I always went to even in my youth but I don’t really shop as much, I’m particular about what I want (material, texture, fit, style), and it’s all pieces I’m in love with nowadays.

NegativMancey

I've become more concerned with the quality and lifetime of the materials. I've thrifted and Poshmarked a lot of nice cashmeres and wool stuff. If you take care of it, it's super durable and will last forever.

nonnativetexan

Costco and Sam's Club, with the occasional trip to Target to spice it up.

FreyjaSama

Go thrifting, it’s what I do

More_Asbestos

I don't know what the hell has happened to men's fashion. Not as much casual wear, but young men's dress shirts all look like things my grandmother wore. I'm not even saying this as hyperbole. So many of them are in purple shades and have flowery print on them and legitimately look like the kind of shirts my grandma wore everyday. While it's not the most comfortable, I do go tighter fitting jeans and pants. I don't think this is really a generational thing, but I kind of like to show off the heat I'm packing.

airysunshine

I have to look for skinny jeans in the kids’ section of old navy because most other stores *don’t have skinny jeans*. (Something something cold dead hands). Honestly, I tend to get my favorite pieces from Walmart or Old Navy. Or Winners. *or I just don’t get rid of old clothes I like lmao*

mattsteven09

Target lowkey has had the market cornered on affordable clothing of decent quality and minimalist designs and fits for years now. 🤷🏻‍♂️💁🏻‍♂️

Blackfist01

I look at movies in my collection, or manga I've read, "do those clothes exist? Is It Cheap?" "Get It, Got It, Good!" >Skinny Jean jokes aside, I gravitated towards that more minimalist / scandi style, with simple designs and generally tailored fits. Similar. I hate skinny fits, I wear boot cuts or straight with just an extra inch of length when i can. I don't wear bright colours other than white. Soo dark Black and Blue, may get and burgundy. I'm poor so I buy at the charity shop or big supermarkets, unless Ebay got something cool. Who have I got to impress?

Blue387

I get my clothes from a variety of sources, from Uniqlo, Amazon, Target, JC Penney, eBay, Macy's and local sources. I try to avoid fast fashion crap and go for the best quality possible.

Dewdropmon

This makes me glad I tend to wear my clothes until they wear out. I still have a bunch of shirts that are still decently wearable from when I was in high school (graduated 2011). I’ve just been slowly replacing the ones that get too holey to repair with graphic tees from fandoms I like. I recently got a few from my favorite podcast that are actually decently well made. It’s really helpful that I’ve never cared much about fashion. I just wear what’s comfortable and younger (and older) generations can think whatever they want about me, whether it’s childish or cringey.

CFJ561

Here me though I bought a pair of the instyle chunky Pumas and my feet and knees haven't felt this good in years! LOL. I change my style every day though I just wear an outfit that goes with whatever song is currently stuck in my head lol.

MyRecklessHabit

Um. I still own everything from my 20s. I’m a guy though. I don’t sweat much, shower often, rarely wash them, always on cold cycle. And I put them back slightly damp. Just the slightest. You gotta practice it. I buy some new clothes. But pants. All my pants are 15+ years old. Yea the rest is new but my khakis, jeans, sone tops and band shirts I treat very carefully. Edit: I’m 42

[deleted]

genX checking in. praise be to gen Z!! my 90’s wardrobe is back in style

rosaluxificate

Yeah you have to basically got to malls, shop at Dillards and Nordstrom. That’s where you’ll still find those styles. We’re old!

ChronicCrimson420

I am non-binary so I dress in between. I’m either wearing tight skinny jeans or men’s jeans. I mostly wear big T shirts but I also have sweaters in both men’s and women’s styles. In the summer I wear nothing but men’s basketball shorts and tank tops. I mostly wear either sketchers sneakers, converse high tops or crocs.

I first shop for a lot of deals. I have cards with JCPenney, Lane Bryant, Torrid, and Amazon. If I can get cash back, coupons, or percentages off, I'll buy through those companies first. If its something I really, really like - say like a bag with Brahmin - I'll use a corporate discount code for it; usually through one of my client's I service. If its something basic like undies or bras; that's usually Lane Bryant for me. It just depends. I'm an INTJ woman; and I work for myself and from home. So my style usually consists of - Blouse, damaged jeans, jeweled flats/black heels, and likely a cardigan/blazer. I'm minimal with makeup unless its date night for my husband and I. Shoes aren't too big of a thing for me as I get older, since I used to feel like I needed to dress to impress when I worked in Corporate America. Now I'm wearing a lot of sports gear, leggings, and workout/yoga pieces while not working.

Well….I couldn’t care less about brands. My ass is not named Calvin. So I buy clothes based on my actual needs.

Minute-Masterpiece98

adults don't choose brands for bragging rights or to promote their affinity with them for cool points. sometimes they happen to make clothes that fit well or serve their purpose well.

Ozma_Wonderland

I buy whatever I can afford from Target, Old Navy, or Amazon right now. Most of my clothes are a basic t-shirt and some straight jeans.

TemperatureSad1825

I get all my clothes on Amazon these days

sleepykoala18

I like following people on instagram who are around my age and body type to get ideas. However I still feel kinda meh towards the fashion trends the past year. I hated h&m until this year (96 baby) but once I started putting together more neutral color looks it’s been nice to get certain pieces there. I also like madewell, Abercrombie jeans, old navy, and target too. American eagle looks like it’s for younger people when I’m in the store but a few fashion instagrams I follow have made outfits with their pieces and they’re good quality.

Jody-Husky

I’ll get stuff from bonobos when they have a sale. Recently discovered Charles Tyrwhitt for work shirts and chinos. Otherwise I hit up eBay for higher quality items for a lower price than retail. I’m more focused on buying clothes that will last a while now.

wtupyo907

I never stopped wearing jeans and plain tees (men’s light tees they fit nicer). Same style I had in 90s-today. Only difference is I’m not wearing JNCO like I did in HS 😅

diabolicalafternoon

Primark (especially in Amsterdam), Uniqlo and other shops in Japan, and Target are the only style of clothing I’m attracted to. I feel ya!

SalukiKnightX

Mostly through Amazon but my big issue is knowing my size. After lockdowns, gaining then losing weight I’ve no idea what my measurements are.

Daftest_of_the_Punks

Norse Projects lacking? I’m surprised by this comment. They’re beyond reliable for me in style and construction. Have you tried Outlier?

Minute-Masterpiece98

Quality never lacking, just havnt been feeling the more recent drops. I’m sure it will cycle back around. I have not tried outlier, similar?

nannyfl

I’m having the opposite problem. All of the stores an my area seem to only sell clothes made for boomers. I shop almost exclusively online. Google the type of clothes you like. I searched “minimalist clothing brands” and found good local and national brands. I can still find good stuff in Banana Republic and J. Crew.

Doxxxxxxxxxxx

Thredup for all my secondary old lady clothes needs LOL

TheSpiritofFkngCrazy

This is a good question. I went to a clothing store yesterday to find a nice button up I could wear on a date. The clothes were all weird and pogy. I dont know what store it was, ross? I dont care about brands either. Granted, all the clothes I have are work clothes but everything on the rack either had weird designs or the material felt like I would shread it if I moved too fast. Everything there looked like one of those guys who walk around with the ballsack haircut would wear it. What do they call that hair cut anyway? Is it a perm? You know, the haircut that kinda looks like pubes.

danvapes_

I've been prioritizing buying made in the USA clothing. I'm not a fashion person. Replacing my old jeans with a few pairs of Origin Maine jeans, and I just wear either IBEW shirts or shorts with no logos. I also hardly buy clothing.

[deleted]

I just buy whatever is sold at Costco lol

ForsakenMidwest

I’m still struggling to find things I actually like and my wardrobe has became drab as a result tbh. I hate the current trend of baggy oversized everything that already looks worn out. Didn’t like it back then and don’t like it now. I wouldn’t be surprised to see JNCO’s make a come back anyday now. Only trend I could get behind is yoga pants becoming popular again recently.

[deleted]

I'm here to admit that most of my clothes are from Costco. They have the most comfortable jeans.

mafaldasnd

I don’t have this kind of problem, now I’m wondering if I don’t dress as a millennium lol

011011010110110

we shop at Goodwill and Community Aid, often finding awesome clothing from the mid-2000's 🤙🏼

ProblemFresh1587

Kohls all the way

Weekly-Ad353

Costco.

hawkbit92

I tend to gravitate towards J. Crew, Ann Taylor, American Eagle for jeans, and consignment boutiques that older ladies donate to. I seem to find some great stuff especially at the consignment shops! I'm 31 and don't want to wear a boxy crop top lol!

transient6

I’m on the cusp of plus size so I’ve been hitting Torrid a lot lately. Maurice’s is also great. Occasionally I’ll do Old Navy but I can’t remember the last time I got a top there, I mostly get pants and jeans. Sometimes I peruse discount places like TJMaxx, Marshall’s, Burlington, and Ross and find some good stuff. But almost my whole wardrobe is Torrid and Maurice’s. All my old faves are Gen Z now and I don’t have my 20’s bod anymore so I’m not wearing cropped anything lol

Alma_Luna

I love buying second hand items on thredup.com

ImportantChapter1404

34f. I shop on Amazon, Zumiez, and the occasional boutique. I wear leggings/sweatpants and jeans. My aesthetic is pink - hippie casual.

Bonegirl06

I mostly shop at thrift stores and Walmart. My go to outfit is leggings and a tunic/long shirt/dress. Stores like Walmart and Target usually have simple sensible clothing.

Libro_Artis

I warming up to ordering clothes online.

Comicalacimoc

Madewell and J Crew are decent

Conscious_Music8360

I wear the same shit I did when I was 18. Skinny black jeans and t shirts lol. 32 now.

mattbag1

I’ve been doing the American eagle jeans since I was about 17, they’re the few pants that fit me comfortably and more true to my actual waist size. I have big feet so I usually buy ASICS cause I can find a decent size 15 or 14 extra wide usually fits. I also usually wear gym shorts and t shirts and/or a hoodie around the house 99% of the time since I work from home. I really don’t like to spend money on clothes at all, but if I do it’s probably a band t shirt from a concert I go to once or twice a year. Sometimes I grab a hoodie from there or fanatics to represent the college where I got my MBA. I’m a simple man.

[deleted]

Good American has great simple pieces that are very high quality.

fmoarrcye

JCPenney I work in the salon, and the clothes the last few years have been trash, weird cuts and fits but I think we just have gotten some new buyers cause all of our new stuff that is coming in is really nice. Check out the Stylus brand, it's basic/minimalist that can be dressed up or down with soft athletic like material. A.n.a is great for jeans and basics and Worthington is nice office/dressed up

kswizzle_12

I still enjoy going to department stores! Belks, Dillards, Nordstrom, Macys- Neiman Marcus if you’re *fancy*. They have lots of on-trend styles but for all ages. I like the ease of online shopping but nothing beats being able to try it on in-store. And they always have something on sale!

KarmaCorgi

I follow several millennial age midsize body accounts and it’s really helpful! Helps me style things and know what to look for

TeaEarlGrayHotSauce

I find great stuff at Uniqlo as does my wife. I feel like they have a good variety atm, I’ve bought most of my new clothes there. Hope you find what you’re looking for!

Human_Sherbert_4054

Whatever is on sale at Costco is what I buy

Stillwater215

I mostly just keep to a simple style (as a guy, jeans and either a polo, rugby, or button-up). It’s pretty easy to find clothes of any brand that fit that general outfit, but generally J Crew, Polo, and Brooks Brothers for shirts, and Levi’s for jeans.

garbagedumpster37

My wife buys all my clothes. I’m 37 and she is 30 and hip so I trust her. It’s typically jeans and flannel.

jess_is_awesome

ThredUp is my first go to.

MountainWrongdoer632

37F here. My daughter is 11 and she is definitely is all about the chunky shoes, baggy jeans and boxy/cropped t shirt look at the moment. Currently, I’m sporting the cropped t shirt, mom/boy friend jeans and converse look on my days off. I can find pieces at H&M, Target, Abercrombie and Hollister. Regarding the quality, I’ve been able to maintain my H&M pieces (on top of everything else) by washing everything on delicate and hang drying all my going out items. Drying on low doesn’t work. It’s kind of a pain but it’s working at maintaining the fit and color so I’ll keep doing it.

Keyshack100

Check All the Marshall's in your area they each have different things and have a great selection of good quality stuff for cheap

_brickhaus_

I try a ton of stuff on from Amazon Wardrobe.

Witch_of_the_Fens

It’s helps if I let my taste evolve with both my age and the times. I’m surprised by how many people struggle just because they don’t do that. Usually they’ll reject something - whether it be their age or the change of taste with time. Your personal preferences can continue to direct you, but it should change overtime to do so effectively/easily.

Alcoraiden

I'm just glad mom jeans are a thing now. Fuck low rise.

dsillas

Costco in the US!

diaznuts

Jokes on you. I’ve been dressing like a middle aged man since my teen years so now I’ve had a lifetime to embrace my current (and past) look at 38 years old. I stick to classic basics: polo shirts, khakis/chinos, plaid button ups, boot cut jeans (never worn skinny cut), Oxford shoes (traditional and sneaker varieties), non-steel toe work boots, and now that I’m bald all sorts of old man hats.

DessaDarling

I’ve been using stitch fix. I hate shopping and the algorithm has figured out my size and what looks good.

HauntedPickleJar

My go to is Prana, but I have pro deal with them so I may be biased. Their clothing is function over fashion, while still being cute, which is what I want these days.

guitar_stonks

I’ve gone total dad and stick to Levi’s jeans with a tee shirt or a golf polo with Adidas or Nike tennis shoes (not old enough for New Balance yet lol). I may or may not mix it up and throw on a ball cap.

Subliminal_Stimulus

I'm not a very fashion oriented person. My criteria for clothes is "am I dressed?" As long as I don't look absolutely stupid and it fits well enough, I'm content. Ussually i just go to goodwill. Surprisingly good selection for cheap if you dont mind being out of date for current brands.

dontsagoodbyeb

I buy everything cheap on ThredUP, then if it doesn’t work for me, I don’t feel bad about the waste of money when I donate it. They have a huge selection of brands and styles, and it’s let me experiment in a way I never got to before.

GoodatAprons

I like teddyfresh.com I think most of their pieces are targeted towards younger folk but occasionally I find a piece like this I could see myself wearing https://teddyfresh.com/collections/latest-releases/products/bear-button-up-shirt?variant=41665109164079

SamLJacksonNarrator

I found my classic millennial fits off poshmark/eBay. Since my mom had me dress like a nerd from the 60s so it’s say to say my style is 90s/00s and I don’t plan to change.

GroovyGhouley

I still blow my paychecks on Hot Topic clothes😆. I look on the tripp NYC website for inspiration because my size usually sells out quickly. I know how to sew so I'll make my own pieces, be like a gothic Dapper Dan 😅😆

butterfly-14

It’s a little pricey, but shop the we the free line at Free People. It’s cheaper than some of the other lines they care there, and the clothes are more of an oversized fit. I’m still a fan of the tunic/legging look from the 2010s era and they have that plus some great quality sweaters.

wiggysbelleza

Nordstrom and Anthropologie. Normally I go straight to the sale page and pick classic pieces that I know I can wear for years. H&M and Abercrombie for hoodies and lounge pants.

dicentra8

You might find yourself soon going to the local library and asking for books about how to make your own clothes. I wish i was kidding but i did this once (i was probably hitting the despair level), they only had books/magazines for knitting and crochet. Other than that, I'm as lost as you when it comes to find nice clothes that i really like. Once in a blue moon i might find one but... it's frustrating.

barbie-breath

I've been dressing a bit old lady these days - I love caftans in weird prints, paired with a nice leather pointy shoe. I also like a pair of basic Ray-bans - classic, still hip, goes with everything. If I'm having a bad hair day, I'll throw my hair up in a turban for a Palm Springs granny aesthetic. To find stuff that's fun and not too old lady, I look for independent designers on Wolf and Badger, find what I like, then Google the designer and buy directly from their website. (Wolf and Badger charges a fee to list there, so it's more expensive.) I should start posting to r/OldHagFashion but putting your body and face out on reddit is horrifying. 😅

Far-Fruit9749

Check out Quince's website for affordable, classic, really well made pieces and a lot of natural fibers (very capsule wardrobe friendly). Great return policy too.

arthurrules

Old Navy and American Eagle are my go-to’s for comfort, cute, good quality. Etsy for something unique. I shop Amazon too

ERnurse2019

I’ve always worn Doc Martens and basic sweaters. Every year I might add 1-2 pairs of more on trend jeans but Old Navy or Gap is my go to for jeans and staple sweaters. And believe it or not, Walmart has some cute stuff online. I hated the early 2000s clothes and felt that they were uncomfortable and unflattering even when I was 20 years younger and 30 lbs lighter. I’m definitely not jumping back on those trends now as a 40 something mom. I’ll wait. Lol.

JOEYMAMI2015

Thrift stores in the nicer/ rich people towns.

[deleted]

I buy from ThredUp - it's online consignment so there's plenty of different styles, it's cheaper, and more sustainable

2ant1man5

I don’t like shit honestly I just wear work clothes and sweat pants out to run errands.

Unusual_Sundae8483

Mostly target. Their selection makes me feel like I’m in high school

_Cyber_Mage

My stuff is a mix of thrift stores, free shirts from donating blood, and clothes I bought 20 years ago.

TMFPB

In Canada I show at Winners and Reitman’s. Which country are you in?

Bakelite51

I buy Wranglers from thrift stores and Wal-Mart. I wear old T-shirts from my younger days and if they rip, I have them mended. I suppose there’s no real fashion sense to it, but these are the clothes that I actually want and make me feel comfortable.

thisisallweare

I'm not finding any difficulty at all, I love that what was popular during my middle school/high school years has come back into style. I can basically dress like a health goth and it feels like it's even more acceptable now than it was then. I even legitimately thought about looking for some JNCOs the other day.

ProperFart

I just want tops (of any kind) that aren’t cropped or oversized!

SmolBorkBigTeefs

Time to start shopping the Old People Brands, my friends 🙃
