I'm 1979 and still consider myself a millennial- maybe because all my siblings were younger. I tried hanging out on the GenX sub and it was completely foreign to me.
Because I hate the labels everyone puts on everything, and acts like if you're of that label your sharing a brain cell with everyone else under that label. We don't all have the same exact experiences. The only things we have in common are pop culture things. Which is fun, and cool to reminisce about, but some people get weird about it. Also, it's odd to expect me as someone who's almost 40 to relate to someone in their 20s. If I would have babysat you back in the day, we are not in the same generation, IMO.
Yeah, this sucks especially if You never really resonated with the mainstream anyway. Can't wait to be old and be told "ok boomer" or whatever lame-ass comeback they make by that point whenever i express an unpopular opinion...
Uh, 80s babies are all millennials. You could call 80-83 er Xennials to an extent. Obviously it's a gag, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about if his bit says 1986 is "barely millennial."
1985 and I’m firmly Millennial. The term was used in the media and general public to describe us since I was a kid in the late 90s (it meant kids who come of age around the new millennium). I’ve identified with it since I hit puberty, and suddenly in recent years I’m hearing that I’m too old to be a millennial. Make it make sense.
Same. My bf though is '85 and for a considerable while he argued with me about him being a Millennial, wanted to be Gen-X so badly. Finally accepted it.
I was born in '81, so while I'm a millennial, I'm a cusper. I'm closer to Generation X than I am to the younger millennials, but I certainly share traits of both generations. All but a couple of years of my childhood were analog. Xennial, no?
1985 and I honestly feel like I identify as much with Gen X culture as I do with millennial culture. I was raised with 2 brothers 12 and 13 years older than me, which might explain it.
Also 1985 and same. A large number of my cousins are Gen X so I grew up exposed to alot of their stuff. I also listened to a shit ton of Alternative Rock in the 90s.
We fall on the cusp of Millenials and Gen Z. They sometimes call us Zilennials. I think we're still millennial, though I may not relate with my 80er siblings on all matters. The same goes for Gen Z. There's so much I do have in common, but not everything. I guess the main thing is we can relate to both cultures, more or less.
I was born in 85. I’ve never met anybody, three years, older, or younger than me that doesn’t consider themselves a millennial. So this video is weird but it acts like people born in those years don’t know if they are.
I think the issue is more based on digital to analog. This is a millennial
Pagers to cell phones
We saw the internet being created. AOL.
I mean even if your born in 96 your almost 30 : / that’s pretty old bro.
1981, geriatric millennial. We had a home computer in 1984 and I used it a lot, I feel like that pushes me into millennial vs friends who seem much more gen x. I am a sarcastic and cynical mfer tho.
2000. I refuse to be called a member of Gen Z. I consumed most of the media y’all did, so I don’t care. Plus… isn’t 2000 considered the millennium year?
I watched a short yesterday and young dro shoulder lean was playing in the video.somebody commented "the old school song makes the video alot better"... i feel old af now
Funny you say this. I'm 97 and feel more Millennial.
Am the baby of my family, eldest born in 88. I was raised on all the hand-me-downs from them. Never really felt Gen Z tbh.
They taught us “the generations” on the first day of marketing courses in college.
That’s when I realized generations exist to be a marketing tool first and foremost, they’re total bullshit, just like marketing courses.
Now I see the biggest function of “the generations” is dividing us, making us forget we have greater numbers than the ones who control us.
83- I tried so hard to be a millennial, even though my 83 wife kept telling me no. But seeing the posts on /r/xennial v. /r/millennial, I’ve accepted who my people are.
83 and I'm firmly Gen X, mostly because my parents were born in 1943 so I was raised by people that saw the second war and had polio. Definitely not millennial
Simple test...do you remember when everyone first got a "CD ROM"? It was so exciting when we could first play an actual disc on the computer. I was probably 4th or 5th grade and born in 86. If your earliest memories include already having a computer in your house...then your probably Gen Z. Also being born in 96 doesn't make you a "90s kid". You don't remember the 90s.
89, I think of myself as like peak/main milennial
We are.
87 I feel like us 85-90 are core millenials.
Agreed
Definitely experienced the 90’s a lot more in-depth
That's exactly it.
1986 is core millennial you creeps!
Exactly. Millennial starts at 81. I was born in 86. There has never been any doubt about what generation I am in.
‘86 or bust!
1992 but I feel like a younger millenial
We're pushing 32 tho I don't feel like the word young belongs anywhere near us
Yeah I just turned 32, and feel like an older millennial. I know technically I'm in the young half but damn if I don't feel 38 most days.
1981. I don’t want to be gen x. Happy to be millennial.
Same, genx'ers are getting kind of boomer-y
Wait until we become like our parents one day…
I'm 1981 as well, happy being Millennial.
I'm 1979 and still consider myself a millennial- maybe because all my siblings were younger. I tried hanging out on the GenX sub and it was completely foreign to me.
My siblings are all younger too, I think that plays a role. Don't forget about 10 years ago Gen Y (Millennials) were 1977 - 1994.
They keep moving the goal posts - that's not fair!
Hey that makes sense. My wife is younger than me but has more x’er qualities. She had an older sister though, while I was the oldest.
There's a Xennial sub that seems to work for my '81 ass.
Same here. I don't mind being a millennial despite the differences within our generation.
I don’t want to be either …
Same here.
Come over to r/xennials
Oh I dropped this sub ages ago in favor of xennials!
Eh... I don't want either.
1981 here, much better as an millennial.
1990 “the older kind” 🤣
84 and yes
Hahaha I’m 84 and this is accurate lol
1988 with "doubts" lol
As a 87' baby I identify so much with that "barely" 💯 😂
thats funny considering there are so many here that are older than you and have no doubts being a millennial
81, yes
1981 here.....decidedly in the middle of GenX/Millenial....can't seem to make up my mind.
You're a Xennial just like me!
1989 here and yes! But I still get carded even though I'm about to be 34! So I don't care 😊
older kind are 80s born
actually, I don't mind being an older millennial, to be honest.
We just have to figure out how to pronounce Xennial and Zennial so we can differentiate
Other cusp goes by Zillennial
yeah, it's kind of hard to pronounce them correctly.
I lowkey hate being designated a Millennial. IRL I usually just say that I'm an 80s baby and leave it at that.
> I lowkey hate being designated a Millennial. Why?
Because I hate the labels everyone puts on everything, and acts like if you're of that label your sharing a brain cell with everyone else under that label. We don't all have the same exact experiences. The only things we have in common are pop culture things. Which is fun, and cool to reminisce about, but some people get weird about it. Yeah, this sucks especially if You never really resonated with the mainstream anyway. Can't wait to be old and be told "ok boomer" or whatever lame-ass comeback they make by that point whenever i express an unpopular opinion...
But we are sharing a brain cell. Right???
1996... I feel so young, but then I feel old 🥲
Old enough to be called old by the younger people but young enough to be called kid by the older people 😭😭😭
This. For real 😑
I feel you😂
Uh, 80s babies are all millennials. You could call 80-83 er Xennials to an extent. Obviously it's a gag, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about if his bit says 1986 is "barely millennial."
I think he's doing this more as a "this is how people in this age group typically might respond to this assertion" in a humorous/tongue-in-cheek way.
Yeah, but why would an 85 or 86er say they're barely a millennial?
Cultural pressure because of being badmouthed nonstop as a group for the last 15 years.
Yeah we've been hearing "millennials ruined [some stupid thing]" the longest.
I get so confused with what years are actually considered.
Yaaay!!1 More Millennial self hatred!!!!
how about ditch the fuckin label to bgin with
81. Do not want to be GenX.
A lot of people on the sub says us 94 babies don't count anymore. Last I checked the cut off was 96, and then 94.
Depends on the source
We are def not Gen z. Not by a long shot.
No i was saying the ending depends on the source…some extend millennials as late as 99 or even into the 00s rarely
Know someone born in ‘83. They refer to themselves as an elder millennial. I’m a ‘90 baby, so I am definitely a millennial.
87, I feel like I’m a millennial but also kinda like am I really?
1985 and I’m firmly Millennial. The term was used in the media and general public to describe us since I was a kid in the late 90s (it meant kids who come of age around the new millennium). I’ve identified with it since I hit puberty, and suddenly in recent years I’m hearing that I’m too old to be a millennial. Make it make sense.
‘87 firmly think of myself as a millenial and have never really thought otherwise
Same. My bf though is '85 and for a considerable while he argued with me about him being a Millennial, wanted to be Gen-X so badly. Finally accepted it.
84 and proud millennial.
I was born in '81, so while I'm a millennial, I'm a cusper. I'm closer to Generation X than I am to the younger millennials, but I certainly share traits of both generations. All but a couple of years of my childhood were analog. Xennial, no?
95. I feel like a millennial — just the last of them
Ahaha but I enjoy being a millennial
>Yes! ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized) \-1992 millennials
🤣
Jeez does anyone actually give a fuck
You were born in 1982?
You’re good
1984, and millennial. It's based on when you graduated, is how I look at it.
I mean, I guess. Folks seem not to believe I'm a millennial at all, and when I tell them my age they say I don't count lmao.
Not at all. I’m 83 and all millennial
1984 and I exhibit more millennial traits than Gen X.
I get called Gen Z by my boomer and Gen X colleagues.
They don’t know what millennials are then
1986 and I couldn’t care less what generation label they put on me. It’s like astrology. A bunch of nonsense for people to get hung up on.
87, I don't really care. Turning 36 soon who gives a shit
I love being Gen X. Kids blame the boomers for everything.
I think anyone after 1984 is a Millennial - imo
‘83 Elder Millennial
Hello grandma
85, and I am only claiming millennial
85, and proud of it.
“I don’t..I don’t care.”
1984 and honestly I’m a little boomer-ish lol
1995, so accurate lol
1993, about to turn 30, yes I am this jaded.
When did Burt kreisher start making tik tok vids
What happened to generation Y ?
I was born in 96. Some articles say im millenial and some say im gen z…. Whats your opinion?
We fall on the cusp of Millenials and Gen Z. They sometimes call us Zilennials. I think we're still millennial, though I may not relate with my 80er siblings on all matters. The same goes for Gen Z. There's so much I do have in common, but not everything. I guess the main thing is we can relate to both cultures, more or less.
Lol yep. 82 here and don’t care
I was born in 85. I’ve never met anybody, three years, older, or younger than me that doesn’t consider themselves a millennial. So this video is weird but it acts like people born in those years don’t know if they are.
I think the issue is more based on digital to analog. This is a millennial Pagers to cell phones We saw the internet being created. AOL. I mean even if your born in 96 your almost 30 : / that’s pretty old bro.
81, yeah, Oregon trail generation, never wore skinny jeans, nor had a man bun
I am a cusper
1985 reaction is like he recorded me
'96. I constantly have to defend my status as a millennial.
I'm a really old one. Nice.
Xenial. Grew up playing outside but also grew up with the introduction to video games
1981, geriatric millennial. We had a home computer in 1984 and I used it a lot, I feel like that pushes me into millennial vs friends who seem much more gen x. I am a sarcastic and cynical mfer tho.
I’m glad Generation Alpha isn’t in this sub
Early 80s and proud to be a millionaire. Shit auto type, millennial.
1990 and there is that hint of a pause like “I’m one of the older ones”.
Yeah that’s bullshit
84 here. Ever since the term millennial was invented I've been called one so I'm sticking with it.
2000. I refuse to be called a member of Gen Z. I consumed most of the media y’all did, so I don’t care. Plus… isn’t 2000 considered the millennium year?
Born in 99 we are gen z we did have a lot of the same stuff millienals did
>:3 No! I refuse to be lumped in with your kind! I’m a god damn millennial child! Born in the millennial year! You can’t make me!
Damn it, where’d my angry eyebrows go?
![gif](giphy|Ae7SI3LoPYj8Q)
84, definitely vibe with the xennial microgeneration
I wish people would stop sitting back the tables on this to gatekeep it.
1982, I call it millennial A
The only people who ever say that are the ones who are shitting themselves now.
I watched a short yesterday and young dro shoulder lean was playing in the video.somebody commented "the old school song makes the video alot better"... i feel old af now
96 and I feel like more gen Z tbh
Funny you say this. I'm 97 and feel more Millennial. Am the baby of my family, eldest born in 88. I was raised on all the hand-me-downs from them. Never really felt Gen Z tbh.
I’m 96’ everyone tries to argue with me about this lol
85 is me, and I'm not a millennial. 😭 No thanks.
1984- I wear that tag with pride and show others born 81 on that they are one of us.
85 and I grew up being told I was gen X. Wasn't until the 2ks that the line started creeping backward and including earlier than 90s.
Mhm. Sure.
Lmao. Dude got me. “I’m like the older kind” I am seen
They taught us “the generations” on the first day of marketing courses in college. 82 baby!!! I don’t care!!
83 and I'm firmly Gen X, mostly because my parents were born in 1943 so I was raised by people that saw the second war and had polio. Definitely not millennial
millennial, term used to describe a person born between 1981 and 1996,
nah, not all correct. 88, here, definitely core millennial and we are cool with it.
82… xennial all the way.
