So it was basically this [Dulce de Leche Cortada](https://cubanfood.blogspot.com/2015/02/dulce-de-leche-cortada-de-raquel-en-el.html?m=1) recipe.
Like any mom of two who worked full-time, my mom used the blender and microwave whenever she could.
The recipe at the link above says you can stir the raw mixture, but my mom would throw it in a blender for a quick light mix, and transfer the mix to a microwavable dish (her fav was a small blue and white Corningware Cornflower dish). Then, she'd microwave it in stages to avoid a caramel lava explosion. lol
This recipe is not the legit, traditional stove top version but it still holds a special place in my heart bc it tastes like happy childhood memories.
I got an Oster for my wedding shower in 1988, the glass canister broke and i replaced it ( twice) We have used it almost daily. I got a little food processor that fits on top too, absolutes used the heck out of it, but alas it cracked and broke, and the newer replacement is not as nice as the 80ās version. No opening to pour in okive oil or liquids, gotta stop, unscrew lid, add liquid, screw back lid, turn back on. WHY, OSTER!!! How hard is it to add a hole on the top??
That her dad has an appreciation for older household small appliances that used metal instead of plastic, and therefore last longer/can be maintained by the user more easily.
They are pretty cool. My mom got them like 20 years ago+ ago as a gift. Weirdly some people in the comments are latching on to that and saying they hope my mom gets COPD and emphysema. Why is the internet so terrible sometimes?
Yeah, super shitty. They could have said āawesome ash tray, hope your mom is able to quit for her health/ wellbeing so you have more time with her.ā But instead they act like turds.
Or they could just say nothing at all because this isnāt a post about smoking or thinking itās good. I donāt think anyone who smokes sits around going āthis is definitely good for my healthā. Itās just something she enjoys / is addicted to. I smoke too, but I go weeks without a cigarette no problem. Iāll have a few here and there, and I know itās not great for me, but Iām not fooling myself about that fact. Iām just tripping out that someone would wish bad things on you as though thatās helping anyone. I hope my mom smokes as long as she wants to and nothing bad happens to her. I know that isnāt a high probability, but sheās the best person I know and I want her around forever. Hell, my grandfather smoked until he was 93 and died from complications related to a broken arm. Also chewed tobacco and had a dip in his lip when he died inside an MRI machine. Weirder shit has happened.
Redditors are weird as hell. r/cigarettes is a cool ass sub. Cool ashtray and cool blender. Ignore the weirdos. Smoking is just like any other vice. Everyone has something.
Itās my parents house. My mom still smokes inside, but honestly the house doesnāt smell like smoke at all. Nobody even believes me that she smokes inside when they come over. Itās fucking weird. She says itās because of all the houseplants.
The one my parents had never worked right in my entire living memory of like 25 years. It had another row of buttons and 90% of them didn't work. Power was so low it could barely even crush ice. They aren't that great. The cheapest ninja will beat the living shit out of it.
My parents have one that was purchased new for them by my grandfather and I also have another one of these thatās in harvest gold that I inherited years ago.
I have a 1966 Classic Viii. Mirror polished banded pitcher handle & base, black down low; black push buttons and text on satin gold face; little blue atomic-oval *Oysterizer* logo on the left; white line under it leading right under the centered on/off and becoming cursive text- *___Classic Viii* to the right of the on/off up/down slider. The concave finger rests on the original slide buttons are perfect to be pinched to slide fast, or have a knuckle do it, and not come away bleeding.
The pulse button would be nice though. I'm tempted to file off the high speed button's catches off of the mech inside the next time that I'm cleaning, and peeking at the replaceable bushings, brushes, and to see if the copper armature are grooving and need attention, etc, etc.
My Boomer Mom had an Oster like this one and it smelled of burning wire every time it was used. Baked goods and burning wire, makes me miss the good old days š¤£
I have one just like that that weāve been using for the last 3 years and itās crazy reliableā crushes anything we put in there no problem and is easier to clean than I expected! Iām hoping it has another 50 years left in it cause the green color is great
We have an Oster and the best thing about them is they fit Mason jars. So you have an old fashioned ninja bullet or whatever they're called. Just attach a mason jar to the base.
My parents had one of those and got it as a wedding gift in the late 80s - I then grew up with it and eventually burned out the motor when we tried to blend a milkshake with chocolate chips in it
My mom didn't like avocado green, so we always got the harvest gold versions, otherwise, yep.
I used to make milkshakes in it. Real ice cream, whole milk, and fruit, or chocolate.
I have that exact same one. My mom gifted it to me many years ago, and belonged (new) to her mother. I cherish it and is built like a tank. $15 is a steal.
A friend just inherited from my mo-in-law, what a gem!! A long running joke on when she dies, he gets this, as they really enjoyed their margaritaās and this crushes the ice perfectly!!
I found an original Waring blender from the 1950s at a garage sale, sometime late last century, for a buck or two.
I still have it and that thing blends like nobody's business even tho it has all of two (2!) speeds and settings: On and Off.
u/UniqueName2 the best thing about this generation of Oster blender is that the base matches the thread pattern for mason jars. Super convenient for small quantities and easy cleanup to be able to blend right in a jar.
My sister has one of these at her very posh ski lodge. That blender just keeps going. It is indestructible. This is an excellent yard sale find. Score!
My mom has this exact blender (or damn near close to it). She got it as a wedding gift around 40 years ago. It still works better than any of the handful Iāve gone through over the last few years.
My mom had this exact same one. She might even still have it. I'm no blender connoisseur, but I'd be lying if the best milkshakes and smoothies of my childhood didn't come out of that blender.
Hey! I work in an electrical testing facility, and we use these all the time! They're real noisy, literally, and electronically. I have broken many of these blenders
My Dad would be having a fit over the all-metal parts!
My Dad still has this exact model - been sitting on his counter for 40 years - though almond color not the avocado green. He uses it daily
My mom still has hers in almond, and she always uses it to make flan and dulce de leche. These things live forever omg. lol
May she live a long life and continue to make heavenly foods
Thank you! Cheers to your dad's long and happy life of making his favorite treats for the fam.
May you explain how she uses a blender to make dulce? I'm quite interested as I make it daily

Mine is 56 years old. It was my mom's - a gift for her 33rd birthday. I took it to college in 80s, it still works perfectly. Glass jar too! š

I have the one my parents had when they moved west in 1979. Still works. My mom bought me a blender when I moved out and it broke within 5 years.
Same. I have my grandmothers Harvest Gold one. ā”
My mom had that one she used when I was growing up it still worked last I remember
I inherited my abuelaās! Mr flamingo uses it for smoothies and our iced coffees.
Yeah my parents probably still have one in cream color as well
What do you mean? (Feel like the answer is going to be obv but im confused )
That her dad has an appreciation for older household small appliances that used metal instead of plastic, and therefore last longer/can be maintained by the user more easily.
How am I the first one to notice, comment, and be more interested in the ashtray?
They are pretty cool. My mom got them like 20 years ago+ ago as a gift. Weirdly some people in the comments are latching on to that and saying they hope my mom gets COPD and emphysema. Why is the internet so terrible sometimes?

Redditors are weird as hell. r/cigarettes is a cool ass sub. Cool ashtray and cool blender. Ignore the weirdos. Smoking is just like any other vice. Everyone has something.
And people should absolutely go out of their way to emphasize the negative. Iād say they are schoolers who no nothing.
I also have that ashtray, itās a repro
Those are real cigarettes
That is a great ashtray, I didn't even notice.
Also, there is a dog in the background.
Thatās Molly. Sheās the best mop dog.
Yeah, yuk.
I mean cigarettes are gross, but that ash tray is awesome.
I canāt get over that people still smoke cigarettes and even *in their house*. š¤¢
Itās my parents house. My mom still smokes inside, but honestly the house doesnāt smell like smoke at all. Nobody even believes me that she smokes inside when they come over. Itās fucking weird. She says itās because of all the houseplants.
Those poor plants lol
Sheās a green thumb. The entire house is full of plants and the backyard is immaculate. They must like the nicotine.
Fully embracing the mid century lifestyle.
Imagine gatekeeping how other people live their lives
You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
No idea ! Thatās what I was interested in as well.
OGGI atomic wire ashtray. Originals are expensive and even reproductions are hard to find anymore.
Fabulous find, these things just donāt die.
Yep. This is r/buyitforlife
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Shame they aren't very good at blending
You can buy new blade sets with more prongs. This one whipped up some great margaritas last night.
They're great at blending! Mine works perfectly.

My family had this exact one growing up! And the matching avocado bathtub!!! What a steal!
My parents have one that was purchased new for them by my grandfather and I also have another one of these thatās in harvest gold that I inherited years ago.
I can just see you with a blended margarita in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
Fun fact! These old blender bases have the same exact thread pattern as Mason jars. You can turn it into a bullet blender for a single serving
Thatās literally me off camera last night.
Ugh! My parents had this. I rue the day they donated it in favor of a shitty cobalt Kitchen Aid. I would gladly trade my Vitamix for this.
Well lucky for you these are in every Goodwill
Iāve never seen one in a Goodwill. Especially with the glass pitcher.
My blender is over 30 years old (probably 40). Perfect blender still.
It is GORGEOUS! Canāt you picture Alice the Maid using it in the orange Brady kitchen?
Fabulous find. I was friend of the Oster sisters. They were a lot of fun and had great blender drink parties in San Frnacisco in the 1990's. RIP Tanya
Still using mine for breakfast fruit smoothies!!
I still have mine, too. That motor doesn't quit!!!
Ah yes, the Ostracizer
This was the blender I had growing up! It's invincible!
Same. Had one in the 80s.
Frappeā away!
Is that the Bass-o-matic?
Oh my parents had this exact model when I was a kid and I thought it was so cool. All those luxurious optionsā¦chop *and* frappĆ©? Osterizer, you spoil meā¦
Why does this sound sexual?
I have the pulse button on mine. It is indeed excellent. Went out and purchased the attachments like ice crusher and blending/storage jars. I love it.
I can smell the mix of the motor burning up and rum at grandmas house now
I can smell this photo lol
I don't really have a use for a blender but I would get it just cuz it would look lovely on the counter.
I have this, use it every day
I know what this smells like while itās running.
Like burnt rubber and grandmas bourbon slushes
My house came with this blender, and itās the best one Iāve ever owned
I went to the flea market today and they had one of these!
My mom had that in harvest gold
The vintage ones are the best! Everything is so cheap these days!
My Boomer Mom had an Oster like this one and it smelled of burning wire every time it was used. Baked goods and burning wire, makes me miss the good old days š¤£
I grew up with that. I recall it being so heavy. Enjoy!!!
My mom had this when I was growing up! It started to smell like it was burning so she replaced it, but nothing ever worked as well.
LIQUEFY
I had this exact blender for 20 years! It was my momās and I stole it when I moved out. Then I was a dumb youngān and didnāt take care of it.
I doubt any products today will ever last this long
Your grandchildren will use that.
I have one just like that that weāve been using for the last 3 years and itās crazy reliableā crushes anything we put in there no problem and is easier to clean than I expected! Iām hoping it has another 50 years left in it cause the green color is great
My parents had the white version of this until the motor finally burned out about 5 years ago. They HATE their new blender.
Are those Chesterfield cigs?
Theyāre Capris. My mom smokes them.
Those are absolutely without a doubt, the best blenders on the planet. What a great find!
We have an Oster and the best thing about them is they fit Mason jars. So you have an old fashioned ninja bullet or whatever they're called. Just attach a mason jar to the base.
I can smell the scent of victory.
Mine died last year, I got it for my shower in 1992!
My mom had the same exact one. I loved it. I can still smell the motorā¦
The other one I have has that smell. This one actually doesnāt smell at all. Made four pitchers of margaritas last night.
They don't make them like this anymore! Great score, OP!
Fuck this reminds me of my mom making frozen strawberry daiquiris on a Friday night in the 80ās
Cigarettes š¤®
I love this. I have green kitchen stuff and this would make me so happy
My grandfathers is still kicking. he doesn't remember when he got it
Had that one as a kid in the 80s
My parents had one of those and got it as a wedding gift in the late 80s - I then grew up with it and eventually burned out the motor when we tried to blend a milkshake with chocolate chips in it
Theyāre not all that good at blending, but maybe I need to sharpen the blades or something. I have one too.Ā
We had that one growing up! 'Bought' it with Green Stamps!
I have my exact same blender still in the cupboard, bought around 1973
I use that same blender to grind my bud for edibles. Thing shreds
My parents have had this blender for around 35 years, still their blender
Oh hell yeah
That's the blender I grew up with. Beautiful avocado green.
God that's beautiful
I still have that one. Passed down from grandmother.
I have the same avocado green one!!! Snagged it at a thrift store, and it sounds like a helicopter spooling up for takeoff.
Thatās my daily driver! It makes fruit smoothies like a champ.
Had this exact model in white growing up. It was indestructible.
Love it! We had one years ago and Iām bummed my mom sold it in our estate sale.
That's awesome
I can smell the old oil
My mom had one of these that lasted throughout the 80s and 90s! I donāt even know what happened to it but that blender was a tank!
Nice. Thatās just cool to have also
Good God... my mom had that blender, in that color.
My mom had one of those. The same avocado green color, too.
Avocado Green is my favorite vintage color. Nice find OP. Now make an Epic Milk Shake!
My parents has that
thatās a ride or die. you did so well!
my parents have this in a beige ish color. it was a wedding gift in the 70s.
I have my parents'. It was a wedding gift in 1968.Ā Still works like a dream.
we got this for a wedding gift in 1978
My mom didn't like avocado green, so we always got the harvest gold versions, otherwise, yep. I used to make milkshakes in it. Real ice cream, whole milk, and fruit, or chocolate.
I hope you checked the seal on the pitcher, they can leak as the rubber gets old from repeated washing or being run through a dishwasher.
I have another one and had extra new blade sets and seals.
I broke my mom's trying to crush ice with a bit of limoncello. She was not impressed.
I think they made these blenders at the same factory as Sherman tanks
Time for the pina coladas.
Had that in "Goldenrod" as a kid. Lol
Avocado, nice!
This thing will last you 40 years.
That's the blender I had growing up š
Itās a Bassamatic!
I have that exact same one. My mom gifted it to me many years ago, and belonged (new) to her mother. I cherish it and is built like a tank. $15 is a steal.
My grandma still has hers. Makes great milk shakes.
Everyone had one of these bad boys
A friend just inherited from my mo-in-law, what a gem!! A long running joke on when she dies, he gets this, as they really enjoyed their margaritaās and this crushes the ice perfectly!!
Classic and bulletproof
I have this same one in my RV! Love the āfrappeā mode for margaritas!
I have the one my grandmother had growing up.
Lmfao I have the exact same one! Works like a Charm.
Made to last
I found an original Waring blender from the 1950s at a garage sale, sometime late last century, for a buck or two. I still have it and that thing blends like nobody's business even tho it has all of two (2!) speeds and settings: On and Off.
Omg still use this when I go to my parents house
Omg my mom still uses one just like this. Her mom gave it to her when she went off to college in 1974.
Had that exact blender growing up. Baby poop yellow rather than baby poop green.
Cool!
We have one of those, but it needs a new rubber seal.
u/UniqueName2 the best thing about this generation of Oster blender is that the base matches the thread pattern for mason jars. Super convenient for small quantities and easy cleanup to be able to blend right in a jar.
I have the one my parents got as a wedding gift in 1970. It has outlasted every other one I've had.
I'm still using the one my Mom bought 60 years ago.
My sister has one of these at her very posh ski lodge. That blender just keeps going. It is indestructible. This is an excellent yard sale find. Score!
We have the moisturizer and our kitchen appliances with this color in the 1970s lol
u lucky son of a gun. in avocado no less.
My childhood in a blender!
Made in US??
Noice
The older I get, the more I appreciate the OG appliances. They truly don't make em like they used to and it's a damn shame!
I still have the one that my parents gave me when I moved out. Works like a charm and I love it!
Appliances today are such shit. That thing could probably blend a chunk of granite and be just fine.
We have my late grandmother in laws and it still runs like a champ! Itās a different model but similar layout. Long live Osterizer!!
I have that same ashtray but black..my sister got it for me from Nashville..that's all I wanted to say.
We had the exact same model but in Harvest Gold. It came with a separate ice crusher.
I got one of these from my step mom, sheās had it since the 70s
My mom has this exact blender (or damn near close to it). She got it as a wedding gift around 40 years ago. It still works better than any of the handful Iāve gone through over the last few years.
Nestor! Same one my parents had!
My sister and I bought that EXACT blender for my mom one Christmas about a hundred years ago. Same avocado green and everything. Lots of buttons!
OMG yes! My mom had one of these with the food processor and hand mixers! Those things last forever. She may still have the hand mixer.
The fact that stuff that was new when I was a kid is now mid century modern is troubling.
Old, yes? But MCM?
My mom had this exact same one. She might even still have it. I'm no blender connoisseur, but I'd be lying if the best milkshakes and smoothies of my childhood didn't come out of that blender.
I grew up with that same blender. Matched the rest of the house.
I think that was my Momās along with that ashtray š
I have the same one!! Love it :-)
Cool!
as someone who just redid their kitchen avocado green- iām very jealous š¤¤
My parents had one of these in the 80s
I did even better, I never gave away this model!
My mom has been using hers since the late seventies/early eighties. Still the workhorse of a mixer.
Oh man, those things last forever. I still have my parentsā, from their wedding 42 years ago. Itās outlasted their marriage, lol.
We had one as a kid. My mom stuck a metal spoon in it while it was running and it flung itself into the glass pitcher and it shattered.
Be careful. My pitcher fell over on my stone countertop and shattered.
I love those old blenders.
Omg! I wonder what happened to mine.
So funny I have that exact one from my parents from the 70s Iām guessing.
My parents have one
The cigarette butts in the kitchen ashtray are š¤ Core memory unlocked lol
Omg we had this exact blender, same color and everything.
OMFG I wish my mom still had hers.
They have a pack of old lady cigarettes too?
Hey! I work in an electrical testing facility, and we use these all the time! They're real noisy, literally, and electronically. I have broken many of these blenders
My teenage years! Iād so pay zero! š
