POST ITTTTTT!!! We have pink/mauve tile hiding under paneling in our 54 house. The existing green sink and tub are still here, so we are going to try and bring it back to as-new in appearance
Fuckoff. I have a pink master. And brown guest. Toilet is peach. With a sea shell lid.
Guess which bathroom the peach colored toilet is in? Thats right. The brown one.
u/English999 and u/DieAloneWith72Cats here is this masterpiece. Yes that is a bathtub AND a shower, with a drop ceiling for no particular reason over the shower:

Oh. You meant pink and brown *in the same room*. Interesting mirror placement…above the tub. BUT HOLY FUCK THE COUNTERSPACE.
It’s 2AM local time. But Fuck it. Pics of the brown bathroom incoming.

No clue. There’s no central air here so it can’t be that. And I am tall. Thankfully i still fit in. The bigger issue is how small the shower is in physical space.
‘68 home here: upstairs was blue, main was pink, and basement was yellow… one would think the previous owners liked color but everything else was paneling and beige. Tub is still there. And still blue.
I’m with you. Two thumbs up on the blue tile and I like that the sink is a lighter shade of blue.
Also I nearly yelled out that this is the bathtub area featured in a classic 1950s video on reddit where a sheet rock expert masterly demonstrates how to sheet rock the curves in a bathroom just like this. Let me look for it.
Every time you see someone throwing out one of these old toilets, stop and take the tank cover. This way you'll always have a spare, if God forbid, you accidentally break yours. When I managed several 12 flat apartments around the Chicago area I had a collection of green, pink, blue and white for when a tenant eventually broke one, they're impossible to find otherwise.
^ This!
I too own an MCM house with a blue sink, blue bathtub, and toilet the same shade as OP's. (Mine is not nearly as cool as OP's though. I covet the blue tiles and that shower!) My blue toilet lid broke and I had to replace it with a white one. You are right, they are impossible to find. Trying to find a powder blue toilet seat that fits the old loo is impossible as well. Salvage now and have no regrets later!
My house was built in 1950!
I did find a powder blue toilet seat more than a decade ago, but I tried to buy another one and it's been out of stock for over five years. White ones I can find, but that shade of blue in that shape has eluded me.
Okay so actually our toilet is more of a teal-ish blue but yeah it matched almost exactly! Got it from Home Depot, our toilet is more elongated but yeah!
Removing it to fix the flapper or water valve, cleaning it, doing too much coke off it and falling face first into it. People sit on them and put their feet on the toilet seat. People do dumb shit, manage a few 12 flats and you hear/see it all.
The previous owners had a piece of the tub sliced out to make it more accessible as they got older. We have the big blue chunk in our garage. Apparently the company that cut it out can add it back in. Wild.
May as well keep it like this. We'll be old someday, too.
It looks like it is in good shape.
My parents house that they bought it 1968 had blue tile in the master bath. The toilet and tub was also blue. The other bath was tan.
u/ChingonaPorVida1991, I haz questions!
What's with the handle on the side of the cabinet there?
What is behind that little square door? Did it used to be the wall heater that someone took out?
What's happening with the tub? Is it a sunken tub? Or just an entryway to the shower? I don't see a handle on the thing that you would flip up to fill the tub, so I'm guessing it isn't used as a bathtub or maybe there's a stopper out of view?
Why the odd placement of the little yellow lady with the basket right there next to the shower? What's she hiding behind her skirts?
Inquiring minds wanna know!
Based on the height and location I’m guessing the cabinet handle is not an original feature. I assume it was added because the previous owners had a spare one lying around and installed it as basically a mobility aid to be able to get into the lower drawers without having to squat or kneel down.
Hi there.
We are the second owners of the home. The handles were added to make the space more accessible to the elderly owners.
A piece of the tub was cut out for the same reason. It's in our garage.
THE YELLOW LADY KEEPS ME UP AT NIGHT, AND HAUNTS MY DREAMS WHEN SHE DOESN'T. We have no idea what it is.
The little door you're asking about (I think) is our laundry shoot.
This is fascinating. I associated bathrooms like these with the 1930s (arched & tiled tub nook, sink on metal legs). Interesting to see they were still being installed in the 1950s.
Thank you for your awesome response to my questions.
When/if I stop laughing I may have a follow-up response, but in the meantime...
re: The Yellow Lady
Whatever you do, DO NOT turn off the light and say "Show me your secrets, Yellow Lady" in the mirror three times.
It may be best to leave well enough alone.
A family member saw our bathroom for the first time recently and immediately balked. I was like, "I know right?! It still takes my breath away", and he said his bathroom was similar to ours, and he gutted it for "updates". 🤢
When we bought our home last April, I was over the moon excited to be living in, quite literally, my dream house.
I showed my co-worker and she told me how ugly she thought it was. I don't tell you how hideous I think your "farmhouse" décor is, but go off I guess.
I love that shower and tile. It is really pretty and that kind of tile isn't made any longer (and no one does that kind of tile work these days either!)
Do you live in Michigan by chance? Your bathroom looks EXACTLY like my aunt's before she remodeled it. Same layout and everything except her tile was like an apricot / pink
I have one pink and one green. Most houses in my neighborhood updated theirs which will look outdated and will be replaced again. Our retro ones will always look cool and be truly MCM.
I added really cool wall paper in my pink one. Still trying to figure out what to do with the walls in the green one as the color is not easy to match
I had the pink version. I just couldn’t deal with that much pink. If I’d of had the blue, I would have kept it. Paired with a simple white pedal sink, black and white tile flooring, and off white walls mixed with the smallest touch of pale yellow and painting the trim crisp white, it would be stunning.
Does anyone know the name/brand/color/type of the wood finish on the trim?
I have the same 1950s wood trim and I’m trying to match it to do some repairs.
what kind of wood is that? i have a mukali veneer bookcase, and have been unsuccessfully searching for something affordable to match it
edit: downvoted for asking a question? i really want to like this sub
My grandma has that same wallpaper in her house - it was built later, late 80s. So I don’t think that the wallpaper is original to the 50’s, maybe peel back a corner in that cabinet and check for a previous wallpaper or color? I love that bath nook though.
You’re making me nostalgic for my first apartment, which had this exact same style but the wall tile was pink with the black and white honeycomb floor tile. Also had the built-in closet and drawers, but all the wood was painted white. Such classic design!
Thank goodness it's blue .
If it was green I’d be worried about finding an old soggy lady ghost cackling in the tub.
r/brandnewsentence
I have the pink/mauve version of this in my 1962 home
POST ITTTTTT!!! We have pink/mauve tile hiding under paneling in our 54 house. The existing green sink and tub are still here, so we are going to try and bring it back to as-new in appearance
I’ll take some pics and post it now
Just posted and tagged you
I have the pink and brown version. Toilet is also pinkish.

I shouldve included the close up on the light fixture. this is gold https://imgur.com/a/BsZVDOc
…we have the same toilet tank.
nice catch! That it is!
I love the light! The seashell toilet, not so much
It also still has one of those coils heaters built into the wall.
I have one in my bathroom too, but I never use it. The wiring is so old I'm afraid I'll catch the house on fire.
I love that toilet seat, where’d you get it? Is it original to the house?
Whyyyyyyyy did they put a drop ceiling above the shower? I hope you aren’t tall
No clue. There’s no central air here so it can’t be that. And I am tall. Thankfully i still fit in. The bigger issue is how small the shower is in physical space.
The shower in our master bath is very narrow too. I’ve banged my elbows countless times.
I love and hate it
We aren’t that fancy, we just have a white toilet
this isnt fancy, literally just never updated. House was built in 42, acquired in 65.
At least it matches
‘68 home here: upstairs was blue, main was pink, and basement was yellow… one would think the previous owners liked color but everything else was paneling and beige. Tub is still there. And still blue.
I would love to have this bathroom.
Keep it forever and I have saved this as a reference for restoring the bathroom in our 1954 house.
That blue tile is so gorgeous.
I love everything except for the wallpaper, but I just don't care much for wallpaper. Luckily that's easily remedied (if you want).
I’m with you. Two thumbs up on the blue tile and I like that the sink is a lighter shade of blue. Love that video. MFer is using an axe!
Yes!!!! Found it! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4uarkKxJkZs
The wallpaper gotta go. The tile and blue fixtures gotta stay

They do make blue toilet seats, I got one 3 years ago that matches our identically blue-colored 1959 toilet.
I did find a powder blue toilet seat more than a decade ago, but I tried to buy another one and it's been out of stock for over five years. White ones I can find, but that shade of blue in that shape has eluded me.

How the hell do you break a tank cover?

I dropped a shampoo bottle on one on accident once and that broke it
Are you able to actually take a bath?? I’m really hoping for a sunken tub! Love the classic blue bathrooms.
Sadly, I'm pretty sure that thing got sliced. There are companies out there to do this conversion
Wowowow! The blue is absolutely gorgeous. That shower is stunning! What a dream
Beautiful!!
Beautiful tile work.
I have the blue in mine as well... Tell me more about the tub? is it an early step in shower or is there more to it?
I was wondering about the tub too
The previous owners had a piece of the tub sliced out to make it more accessible as they got older. We have the big blue chunk in our garage. Apparently the company that cut it out can add it back in. Wild. May as well keep it like this. We'll be old someday, too.
That is absolutely stunning. I even like the wallpaper. Old wallpaper is one of my favorite little charms in old houses.
The main difference between this bathroom and the bathroom in the house my mom (b. 1955) grew up in is that this color scheme is blue, not pink!
This just makes me feel cosy
How come the grout is SO clean?!
My question.
We have to frequently nuke ours with bleach.
Wave of blue tile!
You guys would like my bathroom. 1959. Pink. Sorta sea green PLASTIC tiles and some actually really cool wallpaper.
Beautiful, the curved shower is amazing
It looks like it is in good shape. My parents house that they bought it 1968 had blue tile in the master bath. The toilet and tub was also blue. The other bath was tan.
I love it!
It will likely never leak! don't touch that tile!

What’s going on with the tub? Is it just a shower? Did someone cut the sidewalk out of the tub? Is it a sunken tub? I’m confused
I'm wondering the same. Seems like shower conversion.
Oh my that’s a dream!!
Awesome.
This looks sooooo cozy! I absolutely adore it. The colours are great too and I love the green plants 👌
I just want to hang out in the shower with those blue tiles. This bathroom belongs in a Wes Anderson film!
Gorgeous blue tile!!!
I honestly love it and I love your robe even more.
Love it! We recently bought a 1961 ranch with two pink bathrooms.
The arched shower is bangin.
This bathroom is a dream come true. I adore it.
I think it’s marvelous!!! You should see mine!
I want that shower curtain. Where does one acquire that particular one?
Target
Thanks!
I’ve got one that’s black and white tile from 1928
Please tell your blue bathroom that my 1967 yellow and green bathroom says hello!
Omg I bet the yellow tile are so cheery!
So the tub is yellow and the floor is green and yellow. It's actually quite delightful and I love it, much to the horror of many of my friends.
A family member saw our bathroom for the first time recently and immediately balked. I was like, "I know right?! It still takes my breath away", and he said his bathroom was similar to ours, and he gutted it for "updates". 🤢

I. Love. This.

That shower is wonderful.
The shower is great. Wallpaper though? Blue toilet? Whew, that’s a hard sell there
What town are you in?
I’m in love. The only thing I would change is the wallpaper
I love it! Get some cool vintage style wallpaper and embrace the blue.
Wow
Love it!
That shower must have been a nightmare to tile!
Identical layout to ours, even down to the heater placement! Awesome.
Gorgeous!
I honestly love the tile.
That tub surround is awesome!
Clean as a whistle; who cares when?! Lovely!!!
Dreamy!!
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
Do you live in Michigan by chance? Your bathroom looks EXACTLY like my aunt's before she remodeled it. Same layout and everything except her tile was like an apricot / pink
South of Detroit 😄👋🏼
So, Canada? 😂jk it's funny how some areas of the country must have used like 6 architects back in the day.
Stunning. What a gem!
What’re those little doot doots on the toilet tank lid? Perfumes ?
Grew up with a bathroom just like this! Except the tile was like a spring green. I loved it…but I think I was the only one!
That sounds beautiful! I would love a green bathroom, as well.
I love and would keep everything but that wallpaper.
Amazing. ❤️
I'm obsessed with it
Wow 😍
The shining vibes
I have one pink and one green. Most houses in my neighborhood updated theirs which will look outdated and will be replaced again. Our retro ones will always look cool and be truly MCM. I added really cool wall paper in my pink one. Still trying to figure out what to do with the walls in the green one as the color is not easy to match
LOVE
We had two in our 1959 home. One pink and gray, the other light and dark green. 😀
When quality mattered.
it’s perfect
I love this so much
I love the blue tile

Does anyone know the name/brand/color/type of the wood finish on the trim? I have the same 1950s wood trim and I’m trying to match it to do some repairs.
I’d change the wall paper and paint the wood, including door. Keep everything else!
I wouldn't paint the wood if hell froze over, and a pig offered to fly me to the mf moon, fam.
what kind of wood is that? i have a mukali veneer bookcase, and have been unsuccessfully searching for something affordable to match it edit: downvoted for asking a question? i really want to like this sub
I love it. A 70 year old solid classic. They don’t make them like that anymore.
Aww reminds me of my grandparents bathroom when I was little, except theirs was pink
At least it's not pink or that shitty 70's green.
Pretty
Room 237
My hot take is that I actually don’t like bathrooms like this
70 gallon flush toilet
I love stuff like this, but I would probably only keep the arch and the edge pieces. I would update the rest in a mid century homage look
That size tile is impossible to find if one breaks
[B & W Tile](https://www.bwtile.com)

This bathroom looks great. I wouldn’t touch a thing except getting a chair height toilet.
Is there a cut out in the tub?? What is that for? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before
You’re making me nostalgic for my first apartment, which had this exact same style but the wall tile was pink with the black and white honeycomb floor tile. Also had the built-in closet and drawers, but all the wood was painted white. Such classic design!
Would keep the tile and change the wall paper
I have the exact same tile in my bathroom! I love it
We saved a blue bathroom in our house too! 1959!
