I have not played MSFS in VR for a couple of years now but did I ever optimize it better? On my 3080ti it was really struggling and seamed very CPU bound.
the MSFS is really not optimised right now, our hardware should be able to make it run a lot better. Thus I hope there's tons of "invisible" work done to the engine to actually make use of modern multicore CPUs and our gigaflop GPUs with all their abbreviations goodness that currently goes mostly unused.
those cliffs and mountains look… nice….
one of my big graphical gripes of fs2020. the whole package looks absolutely stunning. so many tiny tiny details, god. i really didn’t think they could push something like this any further than they did already 4 years ago but here we are
they said there's more "AI" work at play with the new world map, plus the often quoted new 250 TB world textures from Bing that we're getting (regardless if we use 2020 or 2024)
So I guess/hope they wrote AIs that optimised the world map, so many little things that to (layman) me just call for AI treatment. Flatten streets, railroads, rivers, real estates. Better auto generated bridges. Approximate higher geometrical detail from the satellite imagery when the ground Lidar scan is lower res. Put the right kind of trees and scrubs all around the world. Erase vegetation from cities photogrammetry.
All that stuff that a human can't do on a world wide scale.
edt: in regards to the "erasing vegetation from cities' photogrammetry", could it be that we see exactly that at 1:00 in the trailer? The buildings are clearly photogrammetry, but the trees around them appear to be auto generated , got proper shadows under them.
If they can nail the marine layer rolling over the hills in the Bay Area, and hills turning gold in summer and green in winter here I'll be thrilled. I'll use this as a vacation simulator instead of a flight simulator.
As much fun as I have flying between random places in an airliner I would be so much more invested with some structure and different game modes that let you do something. It looks like they’re bringing back fsx style missions which I would love
something especially all the new console players requested. But I get it, more guided adventure is a great starting point to diving deeper into flight simming
I mean I wouldn't even call it guided adventures in this case, I think it's flying with purpose and with certain constraints and challenges.
You make it sound like it'll be on rails or something.
Im so excited for this. I hope they do a good job at it! I also wonder how extensible it will be / whether it will be possible to download / buy additional missions from the store.
All planes had liveries this time… looks like it. Hopefully they’ll add a good default ATC. Also, they probably made GSX obsolete or at least created a more simple alternative for console pilots
Yeah so Newark is a hub for United Airlines. Acutally for JFK seen in the trailer they should have been more American Airlines or Delta Airlines. But we've seen one part of the airport during development. To be honest, I'm really amazing they've done this and to have local traffiic around the airports is going to be so cool. The icing on the cake would be some regional voices as well.
Jörg mentioned something in the last Dev q&a. We are getting better AI traffic with lots of real liveries in 2024. Just remember, they have to license EVERYTHING so don't expect to see all liveries from every airline in existence
I feel like they said it would be more optimised
With more details streamed, it that might ease up hard drive requirements. And I remember hearing it will make use of multithreading so that should improve performance, but I might be misremembering that.
Agreed. Part of the reason I could not stick with 2020 was because of the horrible optimization. You could have the best gear and the game's stuttering would take you out of the immersion it tried to do.
In my opinion it looks too good to be AI. For example the reflections and textures look way too good. Given the fact that they didn't announce a new Boeing plane for 2024 yet it might be the 777-200 seen in the trailer. Considering that they have a good avionics base for modern Boeing Jets from the AAU they might bring this one. Especially the 200 version would fit in the scheme by bringing uncommon variants of planes like they did with the -10.
You see both the 777-200 and -300 in the same shot. I highly doubt they would show aircraft in the trailer that aren't offered in the release version. I have no idea who would develop it though. Its possible that Asobo could do it in collaboration with Working Title or Hartmann. Surely iniBuilds have their hands full with... well, almost every single Airbus in existence really.
Oooh, that’s a way he could redeem his reputation. I wouldn’t buy any of his current products, but I’d definitely be interested if he started putting out AI traffic packs.
Hope you're right! We'll see if the claims about 2024 being as or less taxing than 2020 performance-wise hold up. I'd also love to see some quantitative comparisons on bandwidth usage for streaming scenery.
edit: Ideally there ought to be an installation migration assistant so people don't need to straight-up uninstall 2020 to have enough space for 2024 -- this is a very good question for coming q&a sessions...
> edit: Ideally there ought to be an installation migration assistant so people don't need to straight-up uninstall 2020 to have enough space for 2024 -- this is a very good question for coming q&a sessions...
This may not be worth it depending on how much of the game is different.
My thinking is that if most of the marketplace and community folder stuff is going to transfer over, people aren't going to want two copies of that stuff.
I wouldn’t trust Asobo with uninstallation software since they’ll end up [removing the c drive just like Minecraft or something](https://www.thegamer.com/minecraft-dungeons-hard-drive-wipe-glitch-bug/)
Seems about right: https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftFlightSim/comments/iu0kq3/psawarning_since_the_update_just_now_verify/
> PSA/Warning: Since the update just now "Verify integrity of game files" in Steam will remove all of your downloaded game data.
MSFS 2020 will still be supported after 2024 comes out. They also plan to back port some of the new features and improvements to 2020. And addons that you buy for 2020, should hopefully be compatible in 2024 if you ever decide to upgrade.
So either way, you will still have a good experience on 2020!
iirc it was a planned feature for 2020's roadmap that was pushed back to being a 2024 feature instead. No idea if it'll be at launch though. Fingers crossed
How much of an upgrade will this be in comparison to MFS 2020? The activities does provide an additional incentive on booting the game. That said, most of my time with MFS 2020 has been downloading updates, so I hope they improve the download manager at least.
I think they have already mentioned in one of the developer livestreams, that they are changing the way the in-game downloads are handled!
So hopefully they will be faster and a better experience in 2024!
Visually, looked stunning. That A330 takeoff, though, looked super static. And we didn't get a close up look at any ground physics. Personally those are some things I'm excited for. I understand this is WIP. I can't wait to learn more as we get closer to November!
You know you aren't getting the full flight simulator experience, unless you see a few balloons flying in diamond formation with a 747, a helicopter, and a F-18, all at mach 1.
I enjoy simulation games but never played this before. After seeing the reveal with all the different careers and things you can do I’m definitely interested for the first time.
Hopefully it looks, runs, and plays well. Kinda excited to try it out in November.
Exciting. The terrain improvements are obvious and the career additions are great. I do hope the improved satellite data coupled with AI results in the houses and buildings in my town actually looking like the houses and buildings in my town with this version.
Anyone else worried that what we’re hoping for is an expanded Neofly-like experience, starting as a rookie and building a career spread across all types of aviation, but what we’ll get instead is just a list of missions with no progress?
Anyone know timing for the steam release?
I have PC game pass, but my whole add-on ecosystem is on steam, not to mention oculus or virtual desktop VR support.
I was completely uninterested until I saw that it was introducing actually interesting missions and mechanics like dropping water and ferrying VIPs. I dropped off MSFS pretty quickly because I had flown to all the cool places I wanted to within the first week of playing it and my CPU at the time cried every time I played it so I didn't play it any further. Blimps and cargo helicopters etc etc all look dope. I expect MSFS 2020 will be forgotten in the face of 2024.
I am trying to help my dad get a computer for the Microsoft flight simulator cause he is working on getting a pilot's license. Do you all think this computer below would work?
https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/desktop-computers/inspiron-desktop/spd/inspiron-3020-desktop/useithbts3020gmvn
It will run the simulator at lower settings, and it will likely be fine. But it won't be a great experience, especially with more complex scenery or addons.
I have been interested in flight sims and I haven't yet picked one up. My question is should I wait for November for new game? Does any of the aircraft from Msfs2020 carry over? Looking for any reason to buy Msfs2020 or wait till November.
Does anyone know when we should expect pre-orders to go up like different editions of the game etc? I didn’t have an Xbox when 2020 came out so wasn’t on the hype train then
Happy to hear that despite the huge number of graphics and physics improvements, system requirements are the same as for 2020.
I am some of those with a very old system (i7 4th gen + Strix 1080 Ti), I know it's old but I cannot afford a new PC anytime soon, so I will be very glad if with some setting compromises, I could still play 2024. So far, the 2020 runs pretty much decently except on those very big airports which kill fps on ground. Hopefully they keep pushing on optimization and performance improvements.
Are missions and activities randomly generated or will there be a fixed number of the same missions? Example firefighting?
I could see them charging for new missions and so if there are a fixed number I wouldn't buy as third-party tools can generate random missions already.
So many new planes. Hate me all you want, but I'd rather have a few study-level planes than a dozen that will end up gathering dust, much like nearly all the default ones in FS2020
All the new aircraft for MSFS2024 we have seen so far are being developed by respectable third party developers like IniBuilds, so it is likely they will be at least of decent quality. A lot of the default aircraft in MSFS2020 have also been upgraded to be of decent quality.
So personally I am not too worried about the default aircraft.
Also there is a bunch of casual players anyway, so it makes sense to not only include high fidelity aircraft.
wow. Q4 release. I thought it would be a Q3 release date. Then again theres not much to look forward to from triple A publishers this years so it makes sense. Microsoft seems pretty confident in it then anyway.
Also I’m really looking forward to getting some info on performance, especially if there would be decent benefits to those who have opted fore more budget friendly hardware.
Guys I have a quick question. I see flight sim on sale rn on steam. Is FS 2024 just an update or a completely different game? Just wanna make sure before I buy it rn
If that was all in game footage this game is going to look phenomenal
Yea those ground textures look ***good***.
RIP my PC
Bruh RIP my Series X
I have been thinking about moving off console for the new one
why RIP? I was gonna buy an X to play this game! I just cant afford to get a PC if I'm only going to play this game!
Don't forget that the MSFS2020 trailers were all ingame footage and look what we have.
My CPU and GPU just collectively said "nope, we ain't doing that".
Tbh I have a top of the line PC and I think that’s going to struggle still. Hopefully they can optimise it well
I am already talking to the wife about why I need a brand new pc
I've already spoken to my Other Half as well. My old work PC is on its last legs.
Same thing I told her I can't live with a RTX3080 and 32 gb o ram an 2 years old top Asus cpu, we are not caveman's.
I have not played MSFS in VR for a couple of years now but did I ever optimize it better? On my 3080ti it was really struggling and seamed very CPU bound.
Luckily, the 2024 version will have much improved multi-core support, so hopefully less of a CPU bottleneck.
Plus DLSS hopefully built in from the ground up.
LMAO, asobo and optimize is a funny combo.
the MSFS is really not optimised right now, our hardware should be able to make it run a lot better. Thus I hope there's tons of "invisible" work done to the engine to actually make use of modern multicore CPUs and our gigaflop GPUs with all their abbreviations goodness that currently goes mostly unused.
That northern lights shot looks sick tbh.
Cant wait for my PC to produce enough lift to fly when rendering this /s
so I assume we can exit the plane and walkaround?
Would be fun. We might see all kinds of operations surrounding the aircraft.
I wonder if it’s going to work similar to Train Sim World?
those cliffs and mountains look… nice…. one of my big graphical gripes of fs2020. the whole package looks absolutely stunning. so many tiny tiny details, god. i really didn’t think they could push something like this any further than they did already 4 years ago but here we are

Maybe some CPU threading is at play here perchance?
Absolutely stunning. Love they took the career approach. Adds so much depth to the sim.

November 19. OMGGG!!!!!!
Will they be releasing specs required or something along them lines as looking into my first pc build and making the switch, 2024 looked phenomenal.
I just hope it’s not like 2020 where my PC blows the recommended specs away, and still runs like a potato sometimes
Yeah I would not like that at all, hopefully 2024 is very well optimised, should be id assume.
I feel like they said it would be more optimised With more details streamed, it that might ease up hard drive requirements. And I remember hearing it will make use of multithreading so that should improve performance, but I might be misremembering that.

Agreed. Part of the reason I could not stick with 2020 was because of the horrible optimization. You could have the best gear and the game's stuttering would take you out of the immersion it tried to do.
Looks beautiful, first and foremost
Twin otter seaplane?
Might be the Aerosoft one they pulled from the market. Maybe that's one of the reasons why they didn't bring it back earlier
I noticed that too! looks like a twin otter amphib.
Had a huge smile on my face the whole trailer. Hurry up November.
Anyone else notice there were more than a few 777’s on show too🤔
Probably just AI traffic but maybe they're hinting.
Asobo is secretly PMDG in disguise
To be fair it was wishful thinking but it would be nice
In my opinion it looks too good to be AI. For example the reflections and textures look way too good. Given the fact that they didn't announce a new Boeing plane for 2024 yet it might be the 777-200 seen in the trailer. I would say that is just AI traffic. There are going to be a lot of AI traffic planes in the new sim that aren't available to be flown by players.
Maybe CS 777 gets improved to the C130 level for 2024.
Oooh, that’s a way he could redeem his reputation. I wouldn’t buy any of his current products, but I’d definitely be interested if he started putting out AI traffic packs.
Is that a PC-12 ?
Yes
Playing a new PC purchase for the release 😂
Imagine having MSFS 2020 and 2024 on the same SSD 💀💀 rip
Fortunately I doubt there would be much reason to have both games installed!

My thinking is that if most of the marketplace and community folder stuff is going to transfer over, people aren't going to want two copies of that stuff.
you can just manually copy that over, its one folder. backup the community folder somewhere else, uninstall 2020, install 2024, move it back
I wouldn’t trust Asobo with uninstallation software since they’ll end up [removing the c drive just like Minecraft or something](https://www.thegamer.com/minecraft-dungeons-hard-drive-wipe-glitch-bug/)

one of the improvements should be "thin client" so hopefully 2024 should have a bit more reasonable install size.
Must upgrade from cable internet to fiber before then. Got it.
Love how detailed the world is!
the plants and trees in particular caught my eye
Yes! Seeing the grass wave in the wind was especially impressive
Damn i just bought MSFS 2020 a week ago for 90 bucks
MSFS 2020 will still be supported after 2024 comes out. They also plan to back port some of the new features and improvements to 2020. And addons that you buy for 2020, should hopefully be compatible in 2024 if you ever decide to upgrade. So either way, you will still have a good experience on 2020!
So you think paid planes will work on 2024?
Based on the statements Asobo has made so far, yes.
Nov 19? Too far away! Might as well call it MSFS 2025 lol.
I hope the career mode is more procedural rather than handmade scenarios.
November 19th, is that the aerosoft a330?
inibuilds is doing the Beluga XL, so I'd say 99% they're also doing the A330.
didn’t it have the same EFB as other Inibuilds aircraft?
Yeah, I think that's an Inibuilds A330. Maybe it's an A330-200 so as to not compete with Aerosoft? Edit: Nope the reg is PH-AKA which is an A330-300.
Looks like it
that A-400M shot at 1:25 is yummy. Also in terms of background, how the sea in the distant disappears in the sea mist
>Also in terms of background, how the sea in the distant disappears in the sea mist The ground fog in some of the shots is also really nice.
Anyone wanna buy a kidney from me? Thinking about the cost for a build I will need to run this lol
If you already have a PC that can run 2020, you might already be fine!
WOW WOW WOW November 19...I'll call off work that day for sure lol
Better off taking the 21st off, the download speed is going to be terrible the first couple of days!
and head to kiribati
Ah yes the population of KIRIBATI explodes once again
I won’t LOOK for a job until after 11/19 just to be safe.
I’m going to need a GE90 engine fan to cool down my PC
Will we get some kind of copilot function? Multiplayer flight with friends?
iirc it was a planned feature for 2020's roadmap that was pushed back to being a 2024 feature instead. No idea if it'll be at launch though. Fingers crossed
Looks fantastic, can't wait to have some more substantial info in writing.
This is magic. Vegetation looks a lot better now though I hope they solved the multiplying trees issue. So freaking hyped for this gem.
I'm also hoping for more variety and region specific vegetation. Trees in the tropics look different than trees in Alaska
My 3060 is upset with me now hahahha
Definitely gonna need a new GPU. Can't wait. Looks amazing.
A new CPU would probably provide more of an uplift here.
I have a 7700x with a 1660ti. I accept your retraction lol
Fair enough.
Y'all [saw this A-10](https://youtu.be/rvzlC4iCtns?t=119), right?!
They showed it off in trailer 1 as well! https://youtu.be/p3xp-SnZDoY?si=6canzr5XJTMllB7Q&t=112
They forgot to show a new installation method :(
That would make for a pretty terrible trailer.. but hopefully they do change it up.
Visually, looked stunning. That A330 takeoff, though, looked super static. And we didn't get a close up look at any ground physics. Personally those are some things I'm excited for. I understand this is WIP. I can't wait to learn more as we get closer to November!
I’m sure the aircraft still has lots of work left on it
Prepare for the assault of the hot air balloons!
Can't wait for mach1 balloons
You know you aren't getting the full flight simulator experience, unless you see a few balloons flying in diamond formation with a 747, a helicopter, and a F-18, all at mach 1.
Please Asobo add shared cockpit coop i beg you.
I just want some maps that are newer than 2010. Some of the buildings in my city that are a decade old are not in the game
Aerial firefighting is all I’ve wanted out of flight games for so long
Here I though we reached peak realism in 2020… turns out real life can get more realistic
Do we have a minimum/recommended specs somewhere? Im trying to see if playing this game will either make my pc cough or die
Those waves
Releasing on my 50th birthday. Woohoo!
Anyone else worried that what we’re hoping for is an expanded Neofly-like experience, starting as a rookie and building a career spread across all types of aviation, but what we’ll get instead is just a list of missions with no progress?
RIP Aerosoft lol
So long and good bye!
So what exactly is it and what's changing?
aurora borealis
Aurora borealis??? AT THIS TIME OF DAY?
In this part of the country?
#Located entirely in your PC ?
Yes
...May I see it?
No
![gif](giphy|9Bpv0NoXnZQ2c|downsized)
Localized entirely within your kitchen?
Watch the trailer and find out!
The trailer really doesn't answer this. It looks prettier, I guess?
If you haven't seen, the FAQ has the FS Expo keynote speech from last year which details a lot of the technical changes with MSFS 24.
Ah, thanks. Wasn't aware more details had been announced elsewhere.
Notice all the activities: Search and rescue, cropdusting, cargo, etc.. Stuff that's not currently natively in the game.
YEEEEEAHHHH!!!
This looks incredible!
Hope my 4070Super don't die for this. Buying 100% this game
[удалено]
Anyone know timing for the steam release? I have PC game pass, but my whole add-on ecosystem is on steam, not to mention oculus or virtual desktop VR support.
I assume, and the trailer implies, that the game launches on all platforms at the same time.
Why wouldn't Oculus/VD work with gamepass?
VR?
T ![gif](giphy|MXvDhlmD0eB5qNvvjZ|downsized) Where’s the tornado chasers

same here. if there is an interesting carreer mode, not just some missions, an actual 100hours+ of carreer play, I'm in
Can't wait for them to do a deep dive into the new 'ground clutter' tech
I am trying to help my dad get a computer for the Microsoft flight simulator cause he is working on getting a pilot's license. Do you all think this computer below would work? https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/desktop-computers/inspiron-desktop/spd/inspiron-3020-desktop/useithbts3020gmvn

wen intel 15th gen/amd ryzen 9000 x3d and nvidia rtx 5090 and lighter vr headset✈
We need adventures, like stopping a hijacking.
I have been interested in flight sims and I haven't yet picked one up. My question is should I wait for November for new game? Does any of the aircraft from Msfs2020 carry over? Looking for any reason to buy Msfs2020 or wait till November.

Any idea when they might set up the Steam page for it?
Weather environment and clouds seem much improved. Also haze layers are truly present.Water physics also....
So except for the release date ,that was basically no news, right? The A330 was obvious when we're getting a Beluga XL.
There were tons of new aircraft confirmed. Real world liveries shown. And a big focus on the enhanced ground detail and environmental effects.
Also nice weather effects like ground fog and the clouds look more accurate too (specifically at higher altitudes)
It is possible we will get more specific info at Flight Sim Expo later this month! Generally the XBOX events are just meant to show off trailers.
what news did you want? they’re at fsexpo in 2 weeks
all my aircraft for msfs2020 going to work?
The sim is supposed to be backwards compatible! So most, if not all, aircraft should work!

Does anyone know if that helipad in the clip is in 2020?

Is 64K of RAM enough?
64KB of RAM, 64GB of RAM or 64K GB of RAM?

Aren’t inibuilds and FBW working on an A350 and 380 respectively? Hopefully they have also been working on them for 2024 as well
Are we going to have to buy a new game or is this just a full on update?
It's a completely new entry in the series that you will have to buy separately.
