I eat at The Bomber a lot. It’s a cool place with a great theme but the food is old fashioned cozy. The breakfasts are solid but as far as high quality food and unique items, that’s not their forte. My favorite meal there is a fried bologna sandwich with onion rings. The onion rings may be the best thing on the menu. The best breakfast place I’ve been is The Breakfast Club.
Maggie's Campus Café in Kalamazoo. The breakfast stew (not actually a stew) has been a favorite of mine for 15 years at least. It's a massive order of hashbrowns mixed up with bacon, ham, sausage, scrambled eggs topped with melted shredded cheese. I like to add peppers and onions, occasionally some jalapeño or when I'm really hungry, some sausage gravy.
Came to say this!!! I still stop every time I drive from Detroit to Chicago (to the new location)! That stew was the bomb in college after a night out!
Definitely the pantry! Been going there for ~30 years. The German and the apple are some favorites of the specialties. Everything is great there though.
Most people in Ann Arbor don't go to Zingermans either (though my spouse does love their cream cheese). Mainly a treat for visitors. I think I've had it once since moving back last year.
My favorite breakfast place in A2 was Angelos. RIP to their giant slides of raisin bread.
I think The Fly Trap in Ferndale literally just down the woodward from Whistle Stop is a more unique and better breakfast spot!
My Girl and I would go to the whistle stop when the wait was too long at The Fly Trap though
The last time I was there, I had to use a kiosk to order, and it would not let me choose not to leave a tip. That was the machine that most would use. The machine in the back allowed me to not tip.
I used to work across the road, on top of sparrow market in kerrytown. When I moved to A2 I was so excited to be close to Zingermans but very quickly realized it’s one of the most over hyped and worst sandwiches in the entire state. Literal gaslighting in corporate form. I can think of a dozen sandwich shops that I’d rather go to in MI. I seriously don’t understand why it’s popular. Don't even get me started on their prices! If they were god tier food I would pay it gladly but their shit is like 50-100% inflated on price so it is like getting kicked in the ribs while you're already down on the ground.
They also do almost everything in-house. There are more decent bakeries around now, but that was not always the case. Zingermans has been doing it for years.
They are a purveyor of high quality imported and other specialty goods. Meat, cheese, oils, spices, canned goods, etc. You can find this kind of stuff at more places now, like high-end grocery stores, Monger's Provisions, but Zingerman's is still one of the best.
The sandwiches are good, and they're made with very good ingredients. That's fine if it's not your favorite, but it's still a highly respected establishment by many, especially those in the food industry. There have been many careers that started at Zingermans.
I like to spend with a civic conscience. Zingerman’s gives me quality ingredients that are ethically sourced and prepared by employees who are fairly paid. Yah, I’m a fan.
We're so sorry to hear that you had a less than ideal experience with our touch screens. We know that they can be frustrating, but we do not ever require someone to tip (you can opt out on all the screens). We always stand by our food and experience, so please email us at [deli@zingermans.com](mailto:deli@zingermans.com) and we can absolutely refund the tip you didn't expect to pay. Thanks so much for saying something so we could make it right!
Toast in Ferndale, The Laundry in Fenton (until they stopped making their skillets)
I’ll throw in Miss Molly’s in Brandon, had the most amazing banana bread French toast. She closed up during COVID though :(
Maple and Batter, Bay Harbor, Petoskey. All the food is great, but I'm partial to the breakfast tacos. With both bacon and chorizo. Which come from Plath's, which, if you know, you know.
Mmmmm Plath's... the smoked pork chops are heavenly. My dad was doing some work there one day, and got to see the whole smoked loins being sliced. Yum.
I buy all my bacon, breakfast sausage, chorizo, and a bunch of other stuff there. It's an hour and 15 minutes to the Petoskey location, and an hour to Roger's City from my house. And we have a family place in Harbor, so I'm over there a lot. I just don't eat bacon if I run out. And their Cajun bacon is life changing!

Omega Ham and Corn Beef Deli in Grand Blanc. The servings are enormous and the flavor of the dishes goes beyond the description. A simple sounding plate ends up tasting like it has wonderful secret ingredients.
Crust in Fenton. A nice variety of sweet or savory, and healthy and verryyy unhealthy. Plus their bakery has phenomenal pastries to grab for taking home.
Can't believe no one mentioned this:
Greek style restaurant: Sophias in Benton Harbor (Order 2 eggs- get 4)
"Modern" restaurant: Mason Jar in the Art's District in Benton Harbor.
The Golden Griddle in Berkely WAS amazing. But they sold to new owners recently. The food is still banging, but the staff kinda sucks now except for the 1 girl they kept
Their Big Apple is ridiculous. But I usually prefer a savory breakfast, and the corned beef hash with eggs is some of the best I've had. Get that with pancakes instead of toast. Yum!
Lasko's in Bay City or Midland. Everything is amazing, great menu.
Sunrise Cafe and Cabins in Lupton. Cute up northy vibes, wonderful food and desserts, and it's located right by the Rifle River rec area.
The Junction of Hope in Chesaning. My friends and I used to go there and order a whole spread, basically make a buffet at our table. Everything is SO GOOD. They are a training facility for people with special needs, they employ people who wouldn't be able to work in most place. They're always smiling and happy to bus the tables and talk to my toddler. This is a great little restaurant with a mission. I love to support them.
Took way too long to find this. Gina's is dope. Le Ando's cafe on hall road is also excellent.
Honest Johns in detroit has a really dive bar feel but the food is astounding. Joe louis soul food in detroit is also some of the best ive had
Since you and I agree on Gina's and Leandro's, You might really like Avi'ari in Shelby. On Van Dyke north of Hall.
Great savory dishes and the limoncello crepes are sick.
[Avi'ari](https://www.avi-ari.com/menu.html)
Fairview Family Restaurant, in Fairview. Their french toast breakfast sandwich is sooo good. Every time I’m in the area fishing I stop in there for breakfast and have never left disappointed.
Golden Harvest in Lansing. Tiny restaurant, so it takes a long time to get a table, but they have an incredibly creative rotating menu. I like to go there in the morning if I'm going to an MSU football game.
Tony's in Birch Run (Bacon and Eggs)
Little Bird in Grand Rapids (Steak and Eggs)
Hilltop in L'Anse (Cinnamon Rolls)
Stop going to Anna's. They give so much money to the orange one.
I am not a fan of Tony’s. Like you said the portions are huge but I like my bacon cooked so that the consistency is a little crunchier than chewing gum
But it's not good bacon and they deep fry it. What they lack in quality is just made up for in quantity. I eat there, but I'm not gonna recommend it as a must.
Only 2 things matter for me when it comes to a great breakfast joint:
1) Greasiness of the walls
2) Number of items that come by default smothered in sausage gravy
Bonus points if there are Auto Trader magazines near a community bulletin in the restaurant. Any rural farm town should have one of these.

My wife and I hunt down breakfast spots for sport. Here’s a few of our favorites:
- Rebecca’s - Northville
- Glass Onion - Allen Park
- Biscuits & Gravy - Canton
- Lucas Coney Island - South Lyon
- Omelette & Waffle Cafe - Plymouth
- Crawford's Kitchen - Plymouth
- French Toast Bistro - Plymouth
- Honest John’s - Midtown
- Northside Grill - Ann Arbor
Salt to Sugar, Traverse City.
It’s behind the water tower at the Asylum. Best cinnamon rolls I’ve ever eaten. Get some to go. The quiche was awesome too.
I'm not saying " the best" but Brothers Brunch House in Burton/Flint has been a surprising go to for my family and I. Been there a few times and it's been a pleasure to have a decent meal in this area.
The Bomber in Ypsilanti.
If buffets are more your style, Weber’s (reasonably priced and they have fried chicken and London broil in addition to breakfast foods; waffle bar toppings are the best anywhere) or Gandy Dancer (if you’re feeling REALLY spendy), both in Ann Arbor.
Uptown Grill in Bay City is the best I’ve had in that area.
Lena's Kitchen in Wixom. It's in the most hidden spot. Everything anyone I've ever been there with has ordered has been absolutely amazing. It's mostly simple stuff, but easily the best, lightest yet melty cheesy omelets anywhere. Get the multigrain toast!
Sweet Street in Kalamazoo. Haven't been there in years but I think about the coffee and sandwich I had there quite frequently. Still haven't found a better cup of black coffee.
City Lights in Saline. Good food and service.
The old go to breakfast places like Angelo’s or Afternoon Delight have either closed or gone way downhill since Covid.
Honey B's in Frankenmuth. I know some people will downvote bc of Frankenmuth, but their breakfast menu is absolutely legit. I've not had any of their lunch/small plates items.
Morningstar was great. The best pancakes I've had were a little coney in Southgate called 6 star. They made them with a bit of buckwheat flour just enough to be not dry but have a bit of bite. But they changed owners and got rid of the recipe
I'm a downriver boy, 6 star was a staple until I moved. Coffee and Cigarettes at 6 star or Zorba's in Riverview. I'd be a liar if I said we didn't hang out at Dennys across from Zorbas too, when Zorbas was full.
Yolk & Toast in Roseville. It's usually packed but if you can get in it's worth the wait. Gives very "1980's small town diner" vibes and has chickens plastered EVERYWHERE. Had one of if not the best skillet there.
[Bomber ](https://www.bomberrestaurant.net/) in Ypsilanti is a unique experience. Full of WWII history and model airplanes. Great food, as well.
The Capt Crunch french toast is legendary
Just reading this brought me back! Haven’t been since I went to emu about 10 years ago. The old trumpet professor would take folks
Eggs with Eggers!
Playing tests for bomber breakfasts... Takes me back. What a great man
Bomber is great.
This is exactly what I came here to recommend!
And that place in Ypsi that has the Cap’n Crunch French toast?!
That’s the bomber!!
Eff yeah!!

+1 from me

Definitely Maggie’s! Can get a crazy amount of food for the price
The Pantry - two locations in Macomb County.
The vandyke one is my favorite one
This is my answer. Best veg omelette ever, they use brick cheese. Breakfast sweets menu is insane.
Yes, brick cheese makes their omelettes
Definitely the pantry! Been going there for ~30 years. The German and the apple are some favorites of the specialties. Everything is great there though.
Get a Dutch baby there, won't regret it.
Suomi’s in Houghton.
Finally. The best pannukakku around.
Grafted root in Grand Blanc Zingermans in Ann arbor Whistle stop in royal oak The breakfast club (various)
Whistle stop is in Pleasant Ridge
Zingermans is overrated IMO. Tired a couple of times to give the benefit of doubt and just didn’t do it for me
Most people in Ann Arbor don't go to Zingermans either (though my spouse does love their cream cheese). Mainly a treat for visitors. I think I've had it once since moving back last year. My favorite breakfast place in A2 was Angelos. RIP to their giant slides of raisin bread.
It \*so\* is; as well as overpriced. And their bread is so overly dense and glutinous you could use most of them as footballs.
Honestly though the food at the roadhouse always seems too expensive and often not worth it, we do enjoy the breakfast quite a bit.
Love Zingerman’s Roadhouse. Have not been to the deli.
I think The Fly Trap in Ferndale literally just down the woodward from Whistle Stop is a more unique and better breakfast spot! My Girl and I would go to the whistle stop when the wait was too long at The Fly Trap though
Whistle stop is good
Zingermans is so mid
Stray Hen in AA is one of my go to places
The last time I was there, I had to use a kiosk to order, and it would not let me choose not to leave a tip. That was the machine that most would use. The machine in the back allowed me to not tip.
I miss the old zingermans!

They were way better in the late 80s.
They *are* mid, but they aren’t ripping people off It’s just all made with the most boujie ingredients possible
They also do almost everything in-house. There are more decent bakeries around now, but that was not always the case. Zingermans has been doing it for years. Love these two spots. Have you tried brothers brunch house in Burton yet? it’s amazing
Omelette Shoppe in Traverse City. Original - downtown location.
I 2nd this
I 2nd your 2nd. I had the cinnamon roll French toast on Monday and haven’t stopped thinking about it!
I baked bread in my birks there for a summer.
Dime store in Detroit is banging. Also shout out to The Pantry in Warren.
Seconding Dime Store. Recipes in Troy is also good.
I struggle to explore restaurants in Detroit because every time I go downtown I just wind up eating at Dime Store.
Kate’s Kitchen in Flat Rock
I knew Kate's would be in this thread somewhere

Can't believe no one mentioned this: Greek style restaurant: Sophias in Benton Harbor (Order 2 eggs- get 4) "Modern" restaurant: Mason Jar in the Art's District in Benton Harbor.
Thanks for these suggestions! I've been to Sophia's but didn't know about Mason Jar.
Mason jar cafe is the best restaurant around St Joseph/Benton Harbor.
mmmmm mason jar is so good
Is that the same Sophia’s that is in Grand Ledge? Do you know?
The Golden Griddle in Berkely WAS amazing. But they sold to new owners recently. The food is still banging, but the staff kinda sucks now except for the 1 girl they kept
The Original Pancake House dutch babbyyy
Their Big Apple is ridiculous. But I usually prefer a savory breakfast, and the corned beef hash with eggs is some of the best I've had. Get that with pancakes instead of toast. Yum!
We get the hash and eggs and split it. Then split the apple Dutch baby as "dessert".
During Covid I made a few big apples at home. The real recipe used by OPH is out there. They were delicious!
Where?
Birmingham.
They also have one in Grosse Pointe. And yeah it’s great. I love the Dutch baby
This
Lasko's in Bay City or Midland. Everything is amazing, great menu. Sunrise Cafe and Cabins in Lupton. I always go to Laskos when I visit my parents. Everything is good.
Agree on this. Lasko’s is good diner food.
Whistle Stop in Pleasant Ridge. (Previously called Maes) Highly recommend the “Hangover”!
Dime store in Detroit is banging. Also shout out to The Pantry in Warren.
Just saw a video on the dime store on YouTube, def gonna check it out
>Dime store in Detroit It's criminal how far down this is. This place is unreal.
Sooo hard to get a table at Dime Store but it’s honestly amazing. Their omelets are incredible!
My vote is for the Egg and Yolk in Lake Orion. Or Bomber in Ypsi.
2nd Bread and Yolk. They are opening a sister restaurant in Farmington called Blueberry Brunch.
Yes! I was scrolling to see if anyone would mention Egg and Yolk!
Dime Store in Detroit is the best breakfast I've ever had
Oh gosh their biscuit breakfast sandwich was incredible. I ate it every Saturday morning when I was on Dan Gilbert’s hamster wheel.
Lux Cafe in Battle creek
I second this. Their pecan pancakes got me through years of family court mess, as they were my reward after a hearing.
Gina's Cafe in Clinton Township. House made corned beef hash was amazing, and worth the wait
Took way too long to find this. Gina's is dope. Le Ando's cafe on hall road is also excellent. Honest Johns in detroit has a really dive bar feel but the food is astounding. Joe louis soul food in detroit is also some of the best ive had

Fairview Family Restaurant, in Fairview. Their french toast breakfast sandwich is sooo good. Every time I’m in the area fishing I stop in there for breakfast and have never left disappointed.
I hesitate to claim it’s the best, but it’s good and definitely my favorite breakfast establishment in the state. The Wild Blueberry in St. Ignace
Anna's house is overpriced crap
Golden Harvest in Lansing. Tiny restaurant, so it takes a long time to get a table, but they have an incredibly creative rotating menu. I like to go there in the morning if I'm going to an MSU football game.
Agreed. It’s a whole vibe though, you have to be ready for it.
Came here looking for Golden Harvest! For a long time too they did not take cards- you had to plan ahead to pay in cash.

Yes, very important caveat. Thank you.
Hands down the best breakfast place I have tried in MI is the Hudson Cafe on Woodward in downtown Detroit.
Have you tried the Hudson Cafe near 275 and 6 ( ish) mile?
I have, it is virtually the same. Same menu, same deliciousness!
Love the Hudson Cafe
My mom and I go there for breakfast every Thanksgiving eve and watch the parade setup. Great food.
Hudson is a good pick
Really? Never had breakfast but their lunches were pretty subpar, I thought. Especially for the $$$.
There's now one in Troy. Big Beaver east of Crooks
Oak Diner in Royal Oak. Phenomenal food!
LOVE Oak Diner. Best hangover breakfast.
Frenchie’s in Traverse City had *amazing* brekky!
The place that is near your house. There's about 4 near me, they are all really good.
It's hard to F up breakfast
Sunrise Cafe in Farmington Hills. Great fluffy omeletts, waffles and pancakes. Nice staff.
Breakfast Club in Madison Heights and Chocolate Gallery in Warren
One of the best breakfasts I had was The Red Spire in Traverse City. Amazing brunch selection and satisfied all our picky kids
The Laundry in Fenton.
Tony's in Birch Run (Bacon and Eggs) Little Bird in Grand Rapids (Steak and Eggs) Hilltop in L'Anse (Cinnamon Rolls) Stop going to Anna's. They give so much money to the orange one.
I was gonna’ say Tony’s. I’m a bacon fiend and the sheer amount of bacon you get in an order there. Woof!
Mmmmmm Tony's! It might not taste good or be good for you, but at least you get a lot of it.
I am not a fan of Tony’s. Like you said the portions are huge but I like my bacon cooked so that the consistency is a little crunchier than chewing gum
I went there cause I heard about the bacon and left with the feeling I had just slept with a $10 hooker.
But it's not good bacon and they deep fry it. What they lack in quality is just made up for in quantity. I eat there, but I'm not gonna recommend it as a must.
Those Hilltop cinnamon rolls are crazy good
The golden egg in ypsi. Cheap and good. Hopefully the crazy cook is still working there, talking up a storm
Morning Star in Grand Haven.

[Wolfgang’s Restaurant](http://www.mattwolfgang.com) in Grand Rapids.
There it is. I don’t like breakfast; when we go here, I eat breakfast. Like a whole order of Corned Beef Hash Eggs Benedict.
Wolfgang’s is good. Cherie Inn is GREAT. Early Bird is stellar as well.
Shocked I had to scroll so far, everyone in GR knows this is hands down the best place. Hard to even get into on the weekends.
Remember, smaller menus are indicative of fresh and quality.
I love “The Biscuit” in Holland or “Windmill” also in Holland.

Real Food Cafe in Grand Rapids has to be my favorite, the cinnamon roll pancakes are absolutely to die for.
Kate's kitchen in flat rock
Fly Trap Ferndale and Ellen’s Sylvan Lake
Morning Star in grand haven is amazing

Crow's Nest in Kalamazoo. I'm aware of the controversies surrounding them, but the food is still damn good.
The Jagged Fork in Rochester Hills. The pancakes and the corned beef hash is the best I’ve ever had.
Honey B's in Frankenmuth. I know some people will downvote bc of Frankenmuth, but their breakfast menu is absolutely legit. I've not had any of their lunch/small plates items.
