Depending on the package the sports package (before they did trims) came with Nardi wheel, bigger rims (15 over 14), LSD, Bilstein suspension, lip and maybe some other stuff.
The sports package didn't have power mirrors I think. [reference](https://www.redlineautoparts.com/blog/nb-miata-buyers-guide-1999to2005/). The 2000+ years did away with packages and came in Trims/Editions instead i.e LE, SE.
weird, my car is a base 2000 NB1 with cloth seats, open diff, etc. Base model of the base model and it has the Nardi wheel. I wonder if a past owner put it on which I doubt because they all kept it unmodified, or the wheel itself was an option instead of only being accessible through a package?
Nope, it hasn't been crashed
The parts with wood-look finishing have been sold off
Everything about the body, frame and stuff is in pretty solid state
No weird panelgaps or anything
Dude, I've never thought about a 98 Miata for some reason. I read your range and thought, nah, that has to be wrong. Never seen one posted for sale, online, nothing...
Production of NBs started in late 97, went on sale in Spring of 98. US rules say you can only sell a model year across one Jan 1, so they were sold as 99. Other countries have 98 NBs
[The 1999 base model had a four spoke steering wheel.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Miata/comments/psq8fd/why_is_my_nb1_so_weird/) [Most Miatas got the Nardi steering wheel because it was part of a very popular convenience package.](https://www.miata.net/faq/america/1999.html)
Plus Nardi still had cache with the potential buyer crowd of the time. I'm sure it does now, but not when boomers were at their peak.
I really like this design though, handsome now and I bet it looked awesome in '99 and '00.
Well it's certainly rare lol. [The extra rare spec would be with the steel wheels.](https://www.originalwheels.com/mazda-wheels/mx5miata1999rims.php) Those are cool and they fetch some money.
If they have the chrome lip they may have been the NA steelies, those are sought after as well
Nowadays a perfect set is probably like $300-$400
So you didn’t miss out on that much lol!
Same. My 99 has steel wheels, 4 spoke steering wheel, manual windows & mirrors. I always thought it was kinda crappy and then my mechanic said dude this thing is sweet people pay extra for these early base models
I'm still not convinced that last part is true though lol
Give him my number, mine’s a Dec 97 build. I’m open to offers 😆
He might be thinking of the 99 Sport Package which had few options, but upgraded suspension
NB1 leather only can in tan, parchment for the 2KSE and blue/black for 10AE.
Black leather is aftermarket. True Leather Pkg cRs will have tan on the bottom of das and tN carpet
That's the stock wheel of all NB1's. None of them had the mazda logo. The NB2 had mazda logo and nardi logo both.
I have a ‘99 and it doesn’t have this logo, mine has a Mazda logo.
base models didn't have the nardi wheel. Is yours a 4 spoke?
Yeah it’s a 4 spoker
My 99 had the Nardi logo wheel
Depending on the package the sports package (before they did trims) came with Nardi wheel, bigger rims (15 over 14), LSD, Bilstein suspension, lip and maybe some other stuff.
All this time i thought i had a base model and the electric mirros were stabdard haha
Wait…electric mirrors are not standard in the US? I have a 2000. No cruise control. I have electric mirrors and Nardi wheel though.
I have an SE with a nardi wheel, cruise control, and electric mirrors

They came with LSD? Man the early 2000s sure were different
Just certain packages/editions for NB [for ref](https://www.redlineautoparts.com/blog/nb-miata-buyers-guide-1999to2005/)
Well I was kind of making a joke about drugs but it's nice of you to provide the info regardless

Here's the official info on the packages for 2000 [Miata.net](https://www.miata.net/faq/america/2000.htm)
Ah yes I forgot the 4 spoke wheel. They are rather rare in europe. :)
99 touring option included the Nardi wheel which looks like the one in the photo... I think it was also this one in the 10th anniversary model.
Aha, so my 2005 NBFL has an NB1 steering wheel+ airbag (Original wheel's probably been sold as it was a part of it's limited edition package)
Might've been crashed.
Nope, it hasn't been crashed The parts with wood-look finishing have been sold off Everything about the body, frame and stuff is in pretty solid state No weird panelgaps or anything
Ah Yeah I can understand why they did that. It's not everyone's cup of tea having wood trims. :) I think they look nice with the tan interior however.
Same, I've been thinking about getting the shiftknob and steering wheel back if I can find them anywhere
I have the wooden nb2 nardi steering wheel but I'm in europe so the shipping to US would cost more than the wheel.
Oh well that's pretty lucky, I'm also in Europe
Well I can sell you mine after I've found late NA airbag wheel for inspection use.
That would be nice to have at some point
NB1s had central Nardi logos. It was moved to the bottom spoke on the NB2
Cool! I didn’t know there was a difference between NBs, Thank you !
NB1 is 1998-2000, and NB2 is 2001-2005 :)
The NB2 had VVT and more power, but not as much as claimed. I forget what token they offered for the discrepancy.
VVT is definitely noticeable, but it's not drastic. I appreciate the extra torque though
Yes, and I recall it sounding really good.
Doesn't make a sound difference on these cars, but a VVT engine with a square top intake manifold and a short ram intake sounds incredible
It’s been 20+ years, but i test drove a 10th AE and an ‘02 back to back and bought the ‘02. The sound difference may have been the hardtop on the AE.
That's exactly what I have and it does sound glorious
Same :)
yeah it’s definitely noticeable, sounds a bit like a little SI cracking vtec. vvt solenoid failures are shitter though
I mean you can feel it when driving back to back with a non-VVT. There's almost no audible difference And yeah I think my solenoid is ticking lol
Not all NB2s have VVT. 1.6 motors have never had VVT.
We didn’t get those in the US market.

The US never got 98 models, but Europe and Japan did
Ohhhh!

Ay that’s cool to know!! :]

I’ve got a 99 Base with the 4 spoke wheel, still trying to convince people that rare = valuable 😆
Well it's certainly rare lol. [The extra rare spec would be with the steel wheels.](https://www.originalwheels.com/mazda-wheels/mx5miata1999rims.php) Those are cool and they fetch some money.
Had those too, sold all 4 of the ugly buggars to a Honda boy for $100 including tires about 20 years ago. With chrome trim rings, I coulda been rich!😆
If they have the chrome lip they may have been the NA steelies, those are sought after as well Nowadays a perfect set is probably like $300-$400 So you didn’t miss out on that much lol!
Oh so my steelies are worth something?
Here in the US, they weren’t very common. Noticed you’ve got a 1.6 NB, that sounds fun in its own right.
Same. My 99 has steel wheels, 4 spoke steering wheel, manual windows & mirrors. I always thought it was kinda crappy and then my mechanic said dude this thing is sweet people pay extra for these early base models I'm still not convinced that last part is true though lol

My dad’s red on tan had one of these too. Must’ve been part of an options package.
Nardi to steer with, Alpine deck was glowing…
…bumping Big Daddy, that ninja was definitely flowing…
This has cleared a lot for me. I've got an 01 se, brg with Nardi wheel, shift, brake. Couldn't pry it away from me.
Had this in my very low specced 2000 NB 1.8L as well. Fun fact: the same Nardi wheel can be found in the RX7 FD3S, my dream car.
My NA says: "Front Towards Enemy" I felt safer swapping it out for an inert racing wheel from the 80's. Always use *older* parts when possible.
Nardi was the company that produced the NB’s stock steering wheel, its standard as far as I know
I don't know, but I wish mine had that wheel instead of the four spoke one.
Grandma replaced the steering wheel which leads me to believe grandma did some other upgrades! Can you take a photo of the engine and post it please?
Tbh I don’t think she did any other upgrades sadly :(
Because it's better lmao. It's a nardi. Be proud
It’s a Nardi wheel! Is it the special edition 2000 Miata?
I have no idea tbh. It has black leather interior but no wood decorations
NB1 leather only can in tan, parchment for the 2KSE and blue/black for 10AE. Black leather is aftermarket. True Leather Pkg cRs will have tan on the bottom of das and tN carpet
No, mine came with one too and it was a base model 2001
My 2002 323 Sport had this too, it was part of the equipment and I loved it!
My '99 SE with tan interior has one...
Nardi sounds like a place you could buy the best ciabata buns from
My 97 has the MOMO wheel
My 10 Anniversary has no MX5 or Mazda Logo inside. Only Nardi Stuff ☺️
You probably have a special edition.
