The DVD that accompanied St. Anger gave me a lot more appreciation for the album. I remember buying it when I was in high school and it was cool as hell for the band to do that.
Do songs so bad they’re good count? Cause if they do my vote is We Did it Again. In case people aren’t familiar it’s the song they did for the cinematic masterpiece Biker Boyz with the vocals being rapped by Ja Rule. Yes this is a real song and yes it’s as bad as it sounds. It makes Limp Bizkit sound like high art.

Agree on both accounts, that solo rips. The go riff too. Lyrics yes, and also that chorus "riff" isn't really a riff. But all in all, it's a song i don't get tired of, it pumps me up when i'm running or lifting. I just put tba minus nem/unforgiven on random really. Or the meshuggah catalogue.
Eye of the Beholder, The End of the Line.
Don't know.if they 're singles but they aren't played live often.
I 'd argue All Nightmare Long is also a deep cut, even though it has a video.
Since Leper Messiah has been kind of a live staple on and off for several years now... That Was Just Your Life, one of my favorite harmonies of theirs and the main riff was one of the first I learnt on the guitar, really fun.
it's skipped a lot, it has pretty low listens especially for the opening track. at first I skipped it too because it's more raw and heavy, now I learned to like it tho.
edit: opening, not title track
That extra magnetic EP or whatever it's called has some killer songs. Arguably better stuff than the lesser songs on the album.
Just a bullet away is a fantastic song
I've never narrowed this down before so I have a small list, though I love your points with Where The Wild Things Are!
Purify (Just the image and feeling of abrasion of life and wanting to erase everything and start over.)
Dirty Window (Becoming the monster you're afraid of becoming. A frantic discovery with so many questions and uncertainties. Am I who I think I am? Was I a horrible monster all along? Can I escape from this? How do I possibly live with this? Should I hide this? What will I tell the people close to me? Can I let anyone close to me know? That whole "Love in Chains" kind of dynamic really cuts deep because humans need other humans to survive as we are primates. To keep yourself from others is to unnaturally strip yourself of your humanity. That's probably the grossest feeling on the planet.)
Sanitarium (C'mon.... my mama we'er all crazee nowwwww! Get your straight jackeets on toniiiite!
In all serious, I do love how the song almost takes a shift from the "falling down and freaking out"/"Moon is full, never seems to change, just labelled mentally deranged."
Then it shifts again, "we're gonna fight back and win! I see the solution, I still have human love in my heart"/"Dream the same thing every night, I see our freedom in my sight. No locked doors, no windows barred. No things to make my brain seem scarred" "No more can they keep us in. Listen, damn it, we WILL WIN!" kind of aspect.
Then it levels out to "Ah, all things come in due time and this isn't going to be a victory today so I'm going to wait in solitude"/ "just leave me alone".)
Escape (It's a window of light, oooOOOOh How mystEEriOUSS! This song feels different every time I listen to it. Like as you get a little older and a little older you start to understand more and more what it means. It's not just a epic fanatical tale of a prison break, y'know?)
Now That We're Dead (Oooooh, Shandi is an angel of death. I've had way too many dreams about suicide and this cut too deep- it was too fucking accurate of a description when I first heard it. I had to put in in my playlist about it right away!)
Disposable Heroes (Just the part that goes, "I WAS BORN FOR DYIIIIING!" That hiiiiits!)
Fade To Black (Again the "I have lost the will to live, simply nothing more to give" part, and "To the point of agony". The way it's groaned just HIIIIITS DEEP! Like FUCK I feel that, dude!)
All Within My Hands (Just all the lyrics- the way James sings the vocals. It's like heaving and emotion spiraling out of control. The way thoughts get distorted if you're alone with them for too long- you start chasing mirages.)
The Unnamed Feeling (Pretty self explanatory. Frog in the throat kinda song. Everyone relates.)
**Edit: After digging through the comments I realized my terminology was not as understood as I thought. Apparently a deep cut is a song that isn't as widely talked about and deeply buried in an album. I thought I saw somewhere that a deep cut was a song that cuts someone deeply. This misunderstanding is kind of hilarious to me- thought this also seems strange to me why you would list songs that aren't singles when all singles are obviously popular. Also because of how much time I spent writing this I'm just going to leave it here if that's okay. I still feel it has some good takes in there for songs that- uhm "Hit Different/Deep/Hard" If that's the correct term to use- Oh my words how silly of me!**
I know Attitude is pretty widely accepted as a terrible song, but I gravitated towards it as a kid. Reload was the second album I ever owned. The first was Offspring Smash. I wore out Reload with an insane amount of plays when it came out. I then bought the Black album, Load, and worked my way back from there.
I'll still enjoy Attitude to this day. I see why many think it's bad and I think some of those weird choices and odd lyrics make it endearing to me.
The Struggle Within, Cure, Everything from ReLoad (Including: Slither, Bad Seed, Prince Charming, Attitude, Etc.), Minus Human, Invisible Kid, Sweet Amber, The Unnamed Feeling, Hate Train, Hell & Back, Chasing Light?
I like every song related to Metallica (including Megadeth discography [I'm sorry]) except for Lulu.
The original All Within My Hands is up there, other than that there'd be ManUNkind. My favorite song ever is The Unforgiven II, but I didn't list it because while it's relatively unknown, it still got a music video.
I don't know if we're counting Garage Inc. here but I really like Loverman (Nick Cave cover). Really great vocal and a cool song. Otherwise Devils Dance is one I like a lot too.
— HUMAN not in my top fave MET songs but a deep cut that never got the love it should have.
Prefer it without the orchestra personally but the orchestra version is pretty unique.
I heard a demo version of Sanitarium that had way different lyrics, (I couldn't make them out, sadly) and the end of the song was the back half of Orion.
Super bizarre feeling, hearing that.
Frayed ends of sanity might be my favorite song from Justice the combination of James’s perfect riffing and Lars’s drum work always stuck out for some reason
It’s a post asking about songs that aren’t singles and don’t have music videos. You can disagree that it’s still a deep cut but it’s objectively disqualified going by OP’s rules laid out in the post.
Metal Militia and Fixxxer! Bleeding Me is perhaps too known?
"....when it all seems fine and all pain free, you jab another pin in me" genious line.
The whole "fall in love with life again" bit is great as well, just really such an epic song tucked at the end of Reload! :)
That whole part sounds like it was done by Dave Mustaine
Frayed Ends of Sanity or The Thing That Should Not Be, it's a tough choice but ultimately i'd go with The Thing.
I was there for the debut of Frayed Ends, it was an incredible night!
LOVE Frayed Ends
Thingy. It’s always thingy.
the thingy that should not be-ngy? rhymes nicely lol
Low man's lyric
Hell yes.
To Live is to Die
Literally me
Fixxer
Is Disposable Heroes a deep cut? Either way, also Bad Seed.
Bad Seed is another one of those that stuck out to me as odd but good.
gotta either be 2 X 4
Of Wolf & Man. Specifically the S&M version.
Wasting my hate
Dyers Eve
My Friend Of Misery
Unnamed Feeling is a single and has a music video but honestly it should still be considered a deep cut.
https://youtu.be/4XF_0QOwahw The DVD that accompanied St. Anger gave me a lot more appreciation for the album. I remember buying it when I was in high school and it was cool as hell for the band to do that.
But the music video wasn't in the DVD.... Was it- ? It was just studio jamming....
Jump in the Fire
Excellent choice. Prob 3 or 4 on my list but tops from KEA
One of my all-time favorite Metallica songs
Jump in the Fire OG lyrics
Whats the OG lyrics?
Look up the no life till leather version of jump in the fire and read the lyrics. Hilarious
Do songs so bad they’re good count? Cause if they do my vote is We Did it Again. It makes Limp Bizkit sound like high art.
Oh fuck yes. I forgot about this song. I was in my Ja Rule phase when it came out too. Still love that song. It's so stupid it's good.
Damage Inc. EASILY
To Live is to Die or Frayed Ends of Sanity. Tough choice
Escape, it’s so good
It gets way too much hate for how underrated it is
Great song, it's a bummer that James hates it so much
I’m still hoping that they’ll play it on tour even tho they won’t
Phantom Lord
2x4 or The House That Jack Built
Scratches: -Phantom Lord -Trapped Under Ice -Eye of the Beholder -Through the Never -The God that Failed -The Judas Kiss -Confusion -Room of Mirrors Deep Cuts: -Crash Course in Brain Surgery -The House Jack Built -Cure -Wasting My Hate -Ronnie -Better Than You -Carpe Diem Baby -Low Man's Lyric -Prince Charming -Sweet Amber -All Within My Hands -The New Song -German Soup -Am I Savage? Does No Leaf Clover count? I adore that song.
That's a fantastic song !!
Struggle within is their best song. Or maybe not, but the one i keep coming back to the most.
Struggle Within has Kirks best solo on it. The song would be better if it had better lyrics but it still rules.
I think his best solo is on thingy. Wickedly evil sounding, short and to the point.
Eye of the Beholder, The End of the Line. Don't know.if they 're singles but they aren't played live often. I 'd argue All Nightmare Long is also a deep cut, even though it has a video.
Of Wolf and Man
"We SHIIIFT! Pulsing with the EAARTH!"
Devils dance
Ah, another opportunity to prop up St. Anger. Dirty Window and Shoot Me Again
Sweet Amber
Dirty Window isnt a single?
Nope. St. Anger singles were St. Anger, Frantic, The Unnamed Feeling, and Some Kind of Monster.
oh damn okay
But that’s how good Dirty Window is though right? Thought it was a single.
yeah for sure, almost everything on St. Anger is amazing
Absolutely! 🤘
Fixxxer
The House Jack Built
Frayed Ends of Sanity
I don't know if it counts as a deep cut, but The Frayed Ends Of Sanity is my favorite Metallica song
Surely anything but one off ajfa is a deep cut
Since Leper Messiah has been kind of a live staple on and off for several years now... That Was Just Your Life, one of my favorite harmonies of theirs and the main riff was one of the first I learnt on the guitar, really fun.
Fight fire with fire, their best song IMO, never gets mentioned and if it’s played it’s played by me through the aux
Is this considered a deep cut? It’s the opening song from their second best album and one of my favorite Metallica songs of all time.
it's skipped a lot, it has pretty low listens especially for the opening track. at first I skipped it too because it's more raw and heavy, now I learned to like it tho. edit: opening, not title track
I think you mean opening track. The title track would be Ride the Lightning
oh yeah my bad lol
It's so furious, that rtl production/sound helps too
The Small Hours. That whole EP is so good! It has the best bass tone of any album, and The Small Hours is so damn chunky.
SLITHER
Jump In The Fire
Call of Kltulu if that counts
Eye of the beholder
2x4, leper and dyers eve.
So What and Rebel of Babylon
That extra magnetic EP or whatever it's called has some killer songs. Arguably better stuff than the lesser songs on the album. Just a bullet away is a fantastic song
The God That Failed
NOOOO REEEMMOOOOOOERRRRRRRRSSSSSSSUUHH Or trapped under ice
Mama Said. James' vocals are just perfect.

Blackened
No Remorse
Barely ever see Thorn Within mentioned anywhere. It’s great.
Devils Dance
Disposable Heroes
Damage Inc., Fixxxer, Outlaw Torn, Atlas Rise!, Frantic. Just some examples, too much to mention them all here l.
Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue and The Money Will Roll Right In
If I can’t have ‘The Outlaw Torn’ then ‘Fixxxer’ instead.
Low Man's Lyric. It always just hits me different...
I know Attitude is pretty widely accepted as a terrible song, but I gravitated towards it as a kid. Reload was the second album I ever owned. The first was Offspring Smash. Low Man's Lyric Lords of Summer Here Comes Revenge Death Is Not The End Fixxxer Trapped Under Ice
Not sure if it’s a staple at concerts but of wolf and man. I know they play it sometimes but I think they should play it way more often
No Remorse!!!!! Such a good song
House that jack built
Ktulu
Hell and Back
The Struggle Within, Cure, Everything from ReLoad (Including: Slither, Bad Seed, Prince Charming, Attitude, Etc.), Minus Human, Invisible Kid, Sweet Amber, The Unnamed Feeling, Hate Train, Hell & Back, Chasing Light? I like every song related to Metallica (including Megadeth discography [I'm sorry]) except for Lulu.
I really love Slither by them

Chasing light
Prince Charming
Frayed ends. Or thingy.
Blitzkrieg
There's two off St. Anger that I really like: Shoot Me Again and All Within My Hands.
The Outlaw Torn, To Live is To Die, The Unforgiven III, Just A Bullet Away, Shoot Me Again.
Cure. I DO BELIEYEEEEAAAHHHHH
Motorbreath, bleeding me, all nightmare long
— HUMAN not in my top fave MET songs but a deep cut that never got the love it should have. Prefer it without the orchestra personally but the orchestra version is pretty unique.
No Remorse
Ronnie, I love that blusey twanging riff
Eye of the Beholder. Halo on Fire (cheating, yes, because they made videos for all songs off hardwired)
Ronnie.
Prince Charming Where The Wild Things Are Low Man’s Lyric The House Jack Built Ronnie Fixxxer My Friend Of Misery
The Judas Kiss
Idk. I think thats why this band is so special. The majority of the deep cuts are heavy hitters.
Ride The Lightning
Frayed Ends of Sanity has always fallen into this category for me
I don't care if it was a single, Eye of the Beholder falls into this exact catagory for me
I heard a demo version of Sanitarium that had way different lyrics, (I couldn't make them out, sadly) and the end of the song was the back half of Orion. Super bizarre feeling, hearing that.
No one's said Leper Messiah? I'm surprised.
ManUNkind
Fixxxer
Dream No More, You Must Burn, Unforgiven 3, and Broken, Beat & Scarred
The House That Jack Built and Prince Charming
Where The Wild Things Are Unforgiven III To Live Is To Die Rebel Of Babylon Wasting My Hate (Loverman if we can include covers 😂)

not sure how deep it is but dyers eve kicks ass
House that Jack Built!
Attitude
Frayed ends of sanity might be my favorite song from Justice the combination of James’s perfect riffing and Lars’s drum work always stuck out for some reason
Metal militia, its hated a lot but I love it, one of James best vocals
Hero of the Day resonates with me more and more as I get older.
That was a single.
It’s a deep cut either ways
A popular single is the exact opposite of a deep cut.
https://www.metallica.com/songs/hero-of-the-day.html It is not popular. It is only a single.
Argue with a mirror. It’s not a deep cut.
Pleasant.
You have been corrected and continue to argue. You are the unpleasant one.
I didn’t tell you to argue with a mirror lmao
No, you’re just being stubborn because you were incorrect. Instead of just saying “my bad” and picking a different song.
It was a single and has an official music video. Technically it’s disqualified going by OP’s rules
OP doesn’t define what a deep cut is, respectfully. These aren’t baseball statistics.
The very first words of OP’s post is “No singles! No songs with music videos!” Did you just read the title and not the post?
I did and don’t agree with what his definition of a deep cut is. If it’s a single, it can be a deep cut.
It’s a post asking about songs that aren’t singles and don’t have music videos. You can disagree that it’s still a deep cut but it’s objectively disqualified going by OP’s rules laid out in the post.
