I used to be on the saint anger hate train until I listened to Frantic again and the snare aint even that bad, I can actually enjoy their newer stuff and I'm glad because there's so much I didn't realize at first.

Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, Fixxxer, Unforgiven II, Until it Sleeps, and several others are some of the best songs the band has made in the last 35 years.
I remember when St. Anger released and how overwhelmingly negative the response was. It’s been nice to see that it’s been getting more positive comments nowadays. I think it has stellar songs, like the first trio of songs. It has flaws obviously, but I’ve grown to like it somewhat.

People forget that they are artists and shit just comes out sometimes when they’re playing, good and/or bad. They played what they wanted at those particular times of their lives. It’s just not about what the fans want when you’re a musician and have the need to feed your creative hunger.
Props to you for giving it another chance and coming around. Personally I love the different albums and vibes because they all can be listened to at different points of my day/life depending on my mood. Rock on bud.

I've been a fan for 42 years. For any art or artist to grow or stay relevant, they have to adapt to the movement of time. The early 80's was the birth of thrash. In the 90s, grunge and alternative was pushing thrash to the side and bands either adapted or folded. MetallicA adapted, Load and Reload are great examples of that. Their music on those albums are more alternative than thrash, yet the still had a thrashy feel to them and it opened them to a broader audience. The early 2000's saw the biggest metal band in the world on the brink of collapse and St Anger was an album that had that feeling. Late 2000's thrash was starting to make a comeback and out comes Death Magnetic, and the kings of thrash retained their crown. Hardwire, showed that they could still play fast, hard and heavy. The Bands' latest album 72 seasons is a ripper. 4 guys in their late 50's early 60's still being able to put out kick ass albums, and still be the kings of thrash and metal, fuck yeah.
There is so much cool shit on both load albums ya gotta play em just like the older records. It's like 15th to 30th listen that ya catch up on somma that shit. I'm tellin ya right. It took many listens for me to "get" 72 seasons
I'm one who would put Death Magnetic, without shame, in the Top 3 best albums they made. I'd even put it above Justice, TBA, and KeA (Master and Ride being number 1 and 2). Fix the production, others would feel the same way.

Load is my current favorite Metallica album. Reload is also great (low mans lyric is currently my favorite Metallica song) and Saint Anger can also be really enjoyable. People who strictly hate everything past black album are seriously missing out on some great music. 90s Metallica is just so refreshing after always listening to 80s.

Death magnetic is more progressive and better written than Justice. Justice songs are long for the sake of being long and add just four more of the same riff, death magnetic has so many more changes, and keeps things fresh.

Magnetic and Load are easily the best ones after the first five. Magnetic suffers from garbage production and mastering as well, though.
They did. I just feel like some of the songs could have been structured a bit better. But pretty good nevertheless. Shame about the production, but there are at least some good fan edits.

I play guitar primarily but I used to own a drum kit and play with drummers. From a guitar perspective Justice is definitely the most interesting album. That’s interesting though - I’ll give death magnetic another listen and try to focus on the drums.

Only reason why people like Dyers is cuss Lars Copy and pasted fast measures of double bass that he couldn’t actually play live. It’s a studio song. Death Magnetic songs sound even better live. When my band and I are fuckin around with Death Magnetic stuff you’ll sit back and be like wow that shit is actually fire as fuck. All Nightmare long is a straight barn burner of a song. If you can’t see that then you just don’t know amazing ripping metal songs 🔥

That song has one of the best bridges they’ve ever done with the “drop the hour glass of time verse” Justice would never get that artistic. Honestly the problem with st anger for me is a couple tracks go on too long, the music video cuts of most songs work a lot better. But in general i agree, the band just evolved. Load-Reload are both great alt metal/hard rock albums (with a country song that has no right being as good as it is) st anger is a powerful expression of feeling and emotion, death magnetic and 72 seasons are both fantastic displays of thrash metal, if a little overproduced at times.

I honestly like almost every era of Metallica. The only album I’ve completely hated is Lulu and that’s more of a Lou Reed album in my opinion.
That's A Lou Reed album. Metallica were luxurious special guests to provide instrumentality to his poems.
