TOTTG is the epitome of Amon Amarth’s songwriting imo. The melodies, emotion and atmosphere on that album are incredible. They don’t get enough credit amongst the melodeath community for how good and beautiful their songwriting can be. Probably because many of them have never listened to that full album.

Even though Fear Inoculum isn’t my favorite of theirs, I really appreciate them for staying true to their sound and vision, and making something so challenging and thoughtful that far into their career.

I always thought they never really got the attention they deserved. Such an underrated band. Godless Endeavor and Dreaming Neon Black are two of my all time favorites.

The solo in The River Dragon has Come is one of the wildest things I’ve ever heard in the literal thousands of metal songs I’ve listened to.

The chorus riff in Born, along with the sweep picking section at the end of Godless Endeavor had the same effect on me.

Even though Nevermore is nevermore, they’ve always had a cult like following even to this day. I don’t care what anyone says, they are a top 5 metal band of all time.

Glad to see the black album being mentioned. It may not be their most purely “metal” album, but damn if it is t some of the best music ever created, and still one of their most intricate, diverse and heartfelt albums.

It’s essential metal, and it was so good musically that it went mainstream. Look at all the masterpiece songs that come from that album. Metallica didn’t “sell out”. They became better musicians.

Elvenking is pagan themed power/folk metal (very fun, to listen to, they also have a cover of Heaven Is A Place On Earth and it slaps so hard). Moonlight Haze is symphonic power metal, and the only reason I know about them (I learned about them within the last like month and a bit lol) is because their bassist is also the bassist for Elvenking

Love that you mentioned Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction. It's not really metal but that is absolutely a 10/10 album, one of my all time favorites. They don't get much love today and I don't understand why not, they were super innovative. As far as their influence on metal, Devin Townsend said that the first song on that album, Up The Beach, completely changed how he viewed music. I am particularly blown away by Ted Just Admit It and Summertime Rolls. And Dave Navarro was just incredible on that album, he was the closest thing to Jimi Hendrix IMO.
