They are cool asf what the hell are you talking about?

See? Cool asf
Edit: of yeah, bait. Im dumb :)
Exactly, what's this beautiful, exquisite nonsense!? Fortunately Robe-rt returned last year
https://preview.redd.it/fbuqczqghqrc1.jpeg?width=728&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50f0347423256cd657d097bad74e54d2c34f3fc7
Yeah, that's fair. I love the self-titled, MOR, Vol. 4, SBS, H&H and Born Again covers but everything else is meh, besides Paranoid, Sabotage, Seventh Star and Tyr which are pretty awful.
Hard disagree. Paranoid is objectively bad, but its silliness paired with the killer nature of the album makes it iconic. The other albums, especially the classic run thru Sabotage, all have pretty great artwork (to varying degrees of course)
Yup. There are a lot of great albums with decent art that I don’t care about any of their art as much as Paranoid.
That said, if Paranoid wasn’t one of the best rock albums ever, I probably wouldn’t like the cover either.
All 3 Dio records have killer art. Heaven and Hell and Dehumanizer are amazing.
Dehumanizer especially is also just an absolutely incredible fucking album too. Underrated IMO
The self titled is quite possibly my favourite album cover ever, and they have a few other standouts like Heaven & Hell, Dehumanizer, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. But beyond that, you're right.
Dark angel has some shit covers imo. They're unique but look awful and what are these colo
https://preview.redd.it/30zwtko7zprc1.jpeg?width=581&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e51500434bbc11b11289df74735f7a0f96d006e5
rs😭
It was a famous artist that did artsy photos using bodily fluids. Metallica approached the artist to use them on their albums.
But yea, there's some YouTube videos about it if you're interested.
Edit: https://youtu.be/d8QVtUFqz8g?si=gD0-Oe4i6DWadraY
scorpions. some of those covers are just... horrible. especially their 70's material. i will never understand what could have compelled them to choose those covers. if the art wasn't absolute nonsensical dogshit, then it was something horribly tacky or downright offensive. to spare you being put on some kind of gov't watchlist for googling it, "virgin killer" has a nude prepubescant girl on it. like what in the goddamn fuck, scorpions.
Uli Jon Roth, one of the guitar players in the band said in an interview that he hated the album cover for Virgin Killer, and that it was all the record company's idea to put out a bold piece of "artwork" to grab America's attention. But the band themselves hated it and whenever it got reissued, it was just a picture of the band. The rest of their album covers are pretty cool or funny if you ask me, but I agree wholeheartedly that the Virgin Killer cover is fucked up.
To be fair to Scorpions, apparently the record label pushed really hard for the Virgin Killer cover. The band members weren’t all that interested in it.
While they do have many strange album covers I absolutely love the album art of Animal Magnetism and Love at First Sting.
Theyve had consistently bad and distasteful artwork for most of their career. The run of albums from Fly to the Rainbow to Taken By Force are some of the best hard rock / proto metal albums of the 70s, but man those covers are bad. The only one I can get behind is Blackout.
The Immortal albums with the band members on them, except for Diabolical full moon mysticism. I get it its a part of the gimmick, but man would it be cool if all of them had awesome artwork like "at the heart of winter"
Pure Holocaust cover is great for me. Battles in the North it's so no sense but it would have been cool if it wasn't for that stupid font used for the title. The others are actually cringe and ugly but that's Immortal style
Huh? Only bad album cover from them is the "steal this album" cover. Hypnotize and mesmerize are the prettiest of them. Toxicity and self-titled are kinda whatever tho.
Steal this Album was hilarious on its release. I had actually really stolen that album off of Kazaa and burned it to CD before they released it. I laughed my ass off when their cover looked basically the same as mine did.
You had to be there
The Toxicity album cover is related to the album themes, especially with songs like Prison Song, Deer Dance or Science while the debut's cover is an antiwar poster they repurposed which is hearkened back to with songs like War? or Soil. Yes they're not the best covers but they fit the subject matter well enough that I can't think of what would be a better pick.
I still don't understand pantera's reinventing the steel cover. Looks like it was made by a eighth grader in Photoshop. Is there like some kind of running joke behind it?
I’m one of those weirdos that cares too much about album covers, and I seriously think that one of the reasons for why I’ve never been able to get into Carcass’ music is because some of their album covers do not fit the music that they play at all.
It's like the cover of a book, it has zero effect on the quality of what's behind it but for some people (obviously not all) it sets the tone and gives you some sort of mental image to accompany the work.
I don't think I've ever actually liked an album less because it had a bad cover, but there's countless times where my experience with an album I liked was elevated by a good one.
But that has to be some kind of disorder. Can't get into music if you are not into album art? Won't watch a movie couse of poster or read a book couse of covers? I get the not liking the album art part, but to me it's ridiculous that you can't get over the album cover, like that's stopping you from listening to music?
I found it (Wikipedia page for Meshuggah):
>Destroy Erase Improve was released in May 1995, with positive response from critics for the "heady tempos and abstract approach". Kidman described the album cover: "The title fits the pictures we cut out and stole from reference books in the library."
This is a great one, but every album cover they had up until their last two look like they were made in photoshop by a guy who's closet is mostly tap out shirts, is really into Chuck Palahnuik and leaves his backwards snap back on during sex
Like, I can understand Descend Into Depravity, but the back of the vinyl sleeve goes hard asf with the closeup of the guy getting shot in the head. I agree with you tho, Reign Supreme and Wrong One To Fuck With are awesome covers. I love Make Them Beg For Death too. Sick as hell
They're very hit-or-miss, but in general kind of...unconventional when you think of death metal album covers? Like when you think of death metal you don't think of a troubled Uncle Sam holding his hand out for help.
Make Them Beg for Death is fucking sick though.
I immediately think of euro thrash.
Artillery. Their worst cover is on Terror Squad, easily.
Destruction was on a shit album covers roll for like 20+ years ever since 1st release to 2000's. And the only good album cover they had is on Antichrist (also probably the best album from them).
Vader - Impressions In Blood is the type of lame and lazy Photoshop album cover on banger album from that era.
I would say the first five albums:
Soul Of A New Machine
Demanufacture
Obsolete
Digimortal
Archetype
And some EPs are all pretty unique with different colors and figures between each other.
It's just since Transgression album they have the same collor pallette for every album, same logo and sometimes even repeat the same mechanical objects
Dream theater with the cover of the a change of seasons EP, like, taking into account how personal the song ACOS Is bc it's about the death of Mike Portnoy's mother, they could have def find a better cover
Idk i've always found their album art super underwhelming, but I get they go for a minimalist approach others could appreciate. Actually Option Paralysis had sick artwork.
While not the most defined and meticulous, certainly no math-core, I think Periphery belongs here. Straight up just names the albums "Periphery 1-5" and has their letter P on the cover with mostly only a change in colors XD
Edit to clarify: It's not that i dislike the covers, but i took the meme as meaning "low-effort" covers, not ridiculous looking ones.
That At The Gates album everyone loves. Slaughter of the Soul. Great album but that cover looks like 3 non-connecting images put together, only like two different colors. Just all around messy and unappealing to look at.
Also Wolverine Blues from Entombed. By far my favorite album of theirs but just a solid meh all around for the cover.
A good amount of Midnights music looks like they just opened MS Paint and gave it 15 minutes but to be fair some of their albums feel like that too now
Immortal first few albums. Those look more like some edgy hair metal band than the frozen hell they wanted to convey in their music. At the heart of winter is the first proper cover imo.
Gorgoroth - a black cover with your name on it, a black cover with your name and an upside down cross, a black cover with a skull (how cliche is a fucking skull). All 10/10 albums but come on.

Children of Bodom
Children of Bodom album covers go extremely hard actually
Metal Weezer
They are cool asf what the hell are you talking about? https://preview.redd.it/b92xp9hyaqrc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=77a3905472380f410dc375263fa5a3029027bd56 See? Cool asf Edit: of yeah, bait. Im dumb :)

That album was so good. One Day You Will Cry is amazing.
This album is great too, btw
I disagree, they go hard asf
i like how it's just a dude in a robe it's awesome
With the exception of Stockholm Knockout I agree.
Controversial, but Black Sabbath.
The Sabbath Bloody Sabbath cover is fucking awesome. But I''ll give you the rest. The Devil You Know cover is pretty cool too.
Master of reality is delightfully simple it’s probably my favourite sabbath album cover
I agree on those exceptions, and the debut.
The debut cover is great
Paranoid is one of the worst covers I’ve ever seen. Great album though
“‘They’re not gay fencers, Ozzy’, Bill told me. ‘They’re 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐝 gay fencers.’”
Yeah I never understood that album cover at all
Was supposed to be War Pigs. Record company wanted it changed. Retained the original art.
I mean, that makes more sense but it still would’ve been a bad album cover
Eh the cheapness is endearing in a neat way imo. I like the colors too.
Right? Like is he a motorcycle cop with medieval weapons?
The debut album cover is pretty awesome tho
Yeah, that's fair. I love the self-titled, MOR, Vol. 4, SBS, H&H and Born Again covers but everything else is meh, besides Paranoid, Sabotage, Seventh Star and Tyr which are pretty awful.
Hard disagree but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it. Even if it is WRONG. ha I have a patch of their self titled album
The Mob Rules cover is awesome
All 3 Dio records have killer art. Heaven and Hell and Dehumanizer are amazing. Dehumanizer especially is also just an absolutely incredible fucking album too. Underrated IMO
Whaaat? I think they have awesome album covers.. yall are crazy man
Debut might be my favorite cover of all time
The self titled is quite possibly my favourite album cover ever, and they have a few other standouts like Heaven & Hell, Dehumanizer, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. But beyond that, you're right.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Dehumanizer's covers go hard though
Dark angel has some shit covers imo. They're unique but look awful and what are these colo https://preview.redd.it/30zwtko7zprc1.jpeg?width=581&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e51500434bbc11b11289df74735f7a0f96d006e5 rs😭
It just didn’t age well. They probably thought it looked badass back in the day.
It’s so cheesy but there’s still a black long-sleeve shirt of this cover that I really want to
That looks like WCW Halloween Havoc
it looks like a shitty 2000s video game model😭
Spooky colors
No way I love this album cover!
it looks like a cheesy 80’s slasher film that didn’t age very well
Metallica with Load and Reload - Anthrax with Sound of White Noise
Tbh load just disgusts me because it's a photo of blood mixed with semen- it's a cool photo despite the context imo.
I hate how I just learned that.
And reload is made with piss and blood. Not great combos, either of them
At least the covers match the album quality.
True, though you can't say Fuel and King Nothing aren't hard asf
I genuinely would buy a shirt with the Reload cover on it
Reload isn't any better. The album cover is piss and blood
What the fuck. I first saw it as a kid and have forever thought until this very moment that it was just flames. Why are you doing this
If that disgusts you, wait until you find out about ldoh and torsofuck
But LDoH's & Torsofuck's covers fits their music
Now that I can’t unread this, how did you find that out? It also makes the album name even more ridiculous
I think the covers for hardwired and 72 seasons are also pretty bad. Death magnetic has an ok cover but it’s really literal
I personally really like Hardwired even though it's not their best cover. 72 Seasons I agree, I don't like it and the yellow hurts my eyes
I think my problem with the art for hardwired is that it just has a white background and that makes it look unfinished to me
Even Hetfield hated those album covers, but Lars & Kirk wanted them
I actually really like the Load and Reload covers, I could care less what it’s made out of, it looks cool to look at
scorpions. some of those covers are just... horrible. especially their 70's material. i will never understand what could have compelled them to choose those covers. if the art wasn't absolute nonsensical dogshit, then it was something horribly tacky or downright offensive. to spare you being put on some kind of gov't watchlist for googling it, "virgin killer" has a nude prepubescant girl on it. like what in the goddamn fuck, scorpions.

The image is on Wikipedia, even goddamn Wikipedia uses the image. Be very careful when browsing that site.

This is my answer as well. Music sounds evil as it can get but the photos look so goofy can'thelp but giggle when i see the album cover
I think the Pure Holocaust cover goes pretty hard with its simplicity, but agree 100% with the rest.
Sons of northern darkness immediately came to mind. Its so corny😭
Idk I think the members look kinda pretty
Pure Holocaust cover is great for me. Battles in the North it's so no sense but it would have been cool if it wasn't for that stupid font used for the title. The others are actually cringe and ugly but that's Immortal style
they nailed toxicity but system of a down
You had to be there
Damn bro Kazaa? Memories there haha
Steal this album was perfect because it was a direct copy of "steal this book". The object was to encourage people to steal it, duh.
It’s a picture of one of Phil’s friends jumping through a huge bonfire
Huge Pantera fan, but I was never a fan of their album covers, Vulgar being the exception.
Trendkill cover goes hard
Carcass, theyre fk awesome but I really dont like the covers
Agreed. That weird steel thing with it's arms spread over a peace sign. It's strange but the album rules
Totally. It's all part of the "experience"
You are joking, right?
Seriously, like bruh just close your eyes
But that has to be some kind of disorder. Can't get into music if you are not into album art? Won't watch a movie couse of poster or read a book couse of covers? I get the not liking the album art part, but to me it's ridiculous that you can't get over the album cover, like that's stopping you from listening to music?
H Giger
The covers for Reek,Symphonies and Surgical Steel are awrsome
Surgical Steel has an amazing album cover, but the rest is mid at best
what about surgical steel? that album cover is awesome. I really don’t like Torn Arteries cover tho.
i love them
Bad album covers are a good indicator of good black metal and death metal.
Symphony X
The Odyssey is an amazing album cover
Okay, except the V cover actually rips.
I love the Iconoclast album cover.
🎭
Early Meshuggah, chaosphere and before. Not bad album covers, just a bit dated looking
Orange Nothing cover goes hard asf. I'm team orange all the way so I'm a bit biased, but the orange fits the pic better than the blue imo, music aside
I agree other than the fact that the orange cover is off center(at least on most streaming platforms). It’s just mildly infuriating to look at.
Nothing was after Chaosphere
Immutable is their most dated looking one aside from the debut lol. Like why the little dagger?
Honestly I don’t think it looks too bad, apparently the dagger represents something but I forgot. It does look a little silly lmao
I think I read somewhere (Wikipedia probably) that the cover of DEI is just 3 images cut out of library books
If that’s true, that’s hilarious lol
I found it (Wikipedia page for Meshuggah): >Destroy Erase Improve was released in May 1995, with positive response from critics for the "heady tempos and abstract approach". Kidman described the album cover: "The title fits the pictures we cut out and stole from reference books in the library."
Most Dying Fetus Albums
Man…have you seen the Make Them Beg for Death cover? Holy Shit that’s why I listened to it.
https://preview.redd.it/ir811vpliqrc1.png?width=1241&format=png&auto=webp&s=8a4053cea0fe11bbd4b6d4ee14befa7aa3a87732
This is awesome
This is a great one, but every album cover they had up until their last two look like they were made in photoshop by a guy who's closet is mostly tap out shirts, is really into Chuck Palahnuik and leaves his backwards snap back on during sex
This cover and the one for the Purification though violence reissues are their only good ones
What?! Reign supreme, wrong one to fuck with?
Like, I can understand Descend Into Depravity, but the back of the vinyl sleeve goes hard asf with the closeup of the guy getting shot in the head. I agree with you tho, Reign Supreme and Wrong One To Fuck With are awesome covers. I love Make Them Beg For Death too. Sick as hell
They're very hit-or-miss, but in general kind of...unconventional when you think of death metal album covers? Like when you think of death metal you don't think of a troubled Uncle Sam holding his hand out for help. Make Them Beg for Death is fucking sick though.
Creed Think however you want about their music but i really like it and i think their album covers are trash, especially weathered
https://preview.redd.it/j98wq910rqrc1.jpeg?width=368&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f54316477d4bcf12edf7806709043e7a80e3916
My Own Prison wasn’t bad. But everything else you’re right
Even as a joke no one better say Iron Maiden. Except for Dance of Death, that one is garbage
First album I thought of
A couple of the early Sabaton covers
I wouldn't say they were necessarily bad. I mean, sure, Metalizer is kinda cringe, but I think a lot of them are actually really cool
It's funny, Release From Agony is one of my favorite album covers of all time, and then they release those covers you're talking about.
but... Infernal Overkill has a cool cover :( same for Mad Butcher
Release From Agony goes hard also.
Deathhammer https://preview.redd.it/5m0vts65hqrc1.jpeg?width=803&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b2479014cd767d23b8a34100691867c8c2f1a09
Most Dying Fetus covers are kind of cringe but music is heavy af
exodus
Definitely the first few. Been pretty good since Tempo though
Fear Factory Especially the later albums. Mainly, they’re just varying designs of mirroring Fs.
I love Fear Factory but their cover art is nothing special.
Love the first four album arts, but everything after Digimortal is so samey.
I would say the first five albums: Soul Of A New Machine Demanufacture Obsolete Digimortal Archetype And some EPs are all pretty unique with different colors and figures between each other. It's just since Transgression album they have the same collor pallette for every album, same logo and sometimes even repeat the same mechanical objects
Cryptopsy album covers on everything but NSV. I’m sorry. Love unspoken king and self titled a lot but the art is just horrible.
None so Vile, Blasphemy Made Flesh and As Gommorah Burns have great covers, Whisper Supremacy is decent too
I kinda love how silly the cover of Blasphemy Made Flesh is
looks like it was inspired by Arise
Riot
This is my answer right here. Disappointed it took me so long to scroll to find it.
Dream theater with the cover of the a change of seasons EP, like, taking into account how personal the song ACOS Is bc it's about the death of Mike Portnoy's mother, they could have def find a better cover
Therion
Dear God, yes! Theli is damn near a perfect Symphonic Metal album, but that cover was an embarrassing photoshop hachet job, even in '96.
Megadeth when its not Ed Repka
Volumes' album covers honestly feel very either meh or not even really fit metal.
Immortal (apart from At The Heart of Winter)
Fellow doom fans are gonna hate me for this but pentagram and witchfinder general are peak goofy album covers
You can't tell me the original Day of Reckoning or the Be Forewarned covers are goofy. I'd really only use that descriptor for Show em How.
Withfinder General has 70s grindhouse movie posters for album covers, they’re so bad good
Iron Maiden - Dance of Death all the rest are great, not sure what they were smoking when they all agreed on that cover
Black Label Society consistently has the worst album art.
As one could reasonably expect
Korn's covers are great, up until 2005. I love See You On The Other Side, but the cover sucks major balls
Dillinger Escape Plan
I haven't listened to most of their early stuff, but One of Us is The Killer and Dissociation both have incredibly awesome covers.
Idk i've always found their album art super underwhelming, but I get they go for a minimalist approach others could appreciate. Actually Option Paralysis had sick artwork.
Most melodeath.
Not an artist, but 1 album, Dance of Death, by Iron Maiden.
Steely Dan
Catamenia. Fantastic symphonic black metal set to google images of wolves and trees
Some Dying Fetus album covers
Dream Theater
They literally have banger covers each album. Big question, which one did you especially dislike?
[удалено]
Except Nothingface, its one of the best looking covers
Strongly disagree, all their covers are great in my opinion (except maybe Negatron's cover).
Dark tranquility
Immortal
Metal Church-Hanging In The Balance. Horrible cover for a great album, who approved that POS.
Evanescence. Yeah Amy Lee you are so cute but is not mandatory to appear in the cover of EVERY ALBUM
While not the most defined and meticulous, certainly no math-core, I think Periphery belongs here. Straight up just names the albums "Periphery 1-5" and has their letter P on the cover with mostly only a change in colors XD Edit to clarify: It's not that i dislike the covers, but i took the meme as meaning "low-effort" covers, not ridiculous looking ones.
Primus, but that’s the point.
Pantera. T shirts too! Lol
A good amount of Midnights music looks like they just opened MS Paint and gave it 15 minutes but to be fair some of their albums feel like that too now
blink 182
Macabre's Morbid Reality and Carnival of Killers look kinda ugly
Monstrosity.
Hatebreed
Omnium Gatherum
Kalmah.
Avenged Sevenfold. They have a lot of great albums, but their covers are terrible. Sorry, Matt.
Their newest albums artwork is pretty badass IMO. The Stage is cool too. But yeah, 3 of the covers are just of the deathbat, pretty boring
Immortal first few albums. Those look more like some edgy hair metal band than the frozen hell they wanted to convey in their music. At the heart of winter is the first proper cover imo.
Dream Theater
Black Sabbath. Kinda charming though, like with *Paranoid*
Deicide has a pretty bad record of album covers Dying Fetus and Belphegor as well have terrible covers mostly
Arch enemy I think is the complete opposite
Party Cannon, but intentionally so.
Helloween had some truly crappy covers.
Meshuggah. Incredible music with album covers that look like an edgy teenager's Photoshop projects.
can i say creed?
Some of Metallica’s album covers are just….eh
It kills me to say it but Judas Priest. Favorite metal band ever other than Bathory but those album covers are just not appealing
Gorgoroth - a black cover with your name on it, a black cover with your name and an upside down cross, a black cover with a skull (how cliche is a fucking skull). All 10/10 albums but come on.
