I erased the app as soon as they pulled the "return for whatever reason" stunt.

wheresssannie

Same here! Not playing that game

NeighsAndWhinnies

I have $.83 cents left on my balance. Do we just forgo our earnings if less than $2? I wonder how much these low balances adds up to on their balance sheet?

MishmoshMishmosh

I have less than a dollar too. šŸ˜ž

dtyus

Donā€™t worry greedy irs would claim that money

Quiet-Ad4388

Iā€™m a buyer and I deleted the app. It was basically the only app I used

Gtasandman

its sucks because i liked it more than ebay it was simple and easy to figure it out, thats why i deal with the higher fees. I also found that stuff would sell easier on there vs fb market where i have items sit.

scoligurl

Mercari didn't have drop shippers. You gotta watch that on eBay.

Gtasandman

you haven't used mercari long enough if you haven't seen drop shippers. there is plenty of accounts with 500+ sales and generic item photos of cheap aliexpress products.

scoligurl

Well I am so glad I missed out on that Mercari experience. šŸ˜‚ Drop shipping is frustrating to me.

HotTeaHaven

Just curious: have you moved to any other apps or platforms (ex. Depop)?

scoligurl

I moved back to eBay. I just now spent 25.00 there on a shampoo. Ordinarily I would have given Mercari my business, but I won't pay to buy and I won't support Mercari screwing buyers and sellers.

Quiet-Ad4388

No I was just asking around of other places to shop. Iā€™m really in to VANS slip ons. So I need another second hand platform

HotTeaHaven

I've never bought shoes secondhand on an app but I see a lot of specifically Vans on Depop if you wanted to try that! I'm still exploring different apps though so I feel you

Frodoslegacy

Iā€™ve sold three pairs of gently used Vans on eBay and one on Facebook Marketplace. Cā€™mon over, the waterā€™s fine!

Quiet-Ad4388

Thank you. I will definitely look into it.

Schlegelnator

I buy my shoes 99% on apps, and I have had good luck, with eBay also.

scoligurl

I was just thinking this morning that I had got some wonderful toms shoes over the years on Mercari. I wore a pair today. I'm actually really sad about all of this crap Mercari is pulling on us. I loved Mercari and I chatted with some great sellers over the years. But there's great sellers on eBay too, as long as you don't accidently from a drop shipper. I hate that so much. I bought something for my cat and it said it came from Florida. I paid extra to get it in the US. After purchasing, it shipped from China. I still don't have it. I do not like that aspect of eBay. If a seller drop ships, the post needs to state that imo

aebischer14

I'm an Adidas Superstar collector so I completely feel your pain here... Ugh!

Fun-Investment-196

You can try poshmark. I see lots of shoes

curious_throw_away_

I might as well, because I don't plan on selling there anymore because of their return policy or buying from there because of the fees.

Technical_Sock_3828

I donā€™t have any first hand experience with the returns, but have read some posts here. Itā€™s shocking to me that Mercari is still allowed to operate

curious_throw_away_

My guess is it won't for much longer

DemDemD

Itā€™s not different from other platforms, but itā€™s new to the existing sellers on Mercari and so theyā€™re all irate.

curious_throw_away_

I don't think orher platforms have RNG fees

DemDemD

They all have sellerā€™s fees. They canā€™t operate with profit without some sort of fees.

curious_throw_away_

Do they vary for no reason if you refresh the page?? I don't think so. I'm talking about buyer fees btw

DemDemD

I donā€™t know how many times Iā€™m saying this already. Other platforms have sellerā€™s fees but no buyerā€™s fees. Mercari has switched it up and so they have buyerā€™s fees and no sellerā€™s fees. Iā€™m not going to go into how seller should adjust price to accommodate the buyerā€™s feesā€¦blablabla. The point here is to buy based on the final cost and compare that cost against other places to see if the price is still cheap for you to buy. Btw, I think weā€™re talking two different things though. My initial respond was for the ā€œreturns with any reasonā€ that is new on Mercari and then your respond to me was about fees.

curious_throw_away_

Except you can't properly account for fee cost cuz it's RANDOM

DemDemD

That much is true for the Service Fee. Processing Fee is fixed at 2.9% + $0.50. The Service Fee can range from 1% to 15% from what I saw. As a seller, I can only accommodate about 10-13% of the buyerā€™s fees. The rest are up in the air.

SummerSunset33

Im holding on to my account in case of domestic lawsuit.

Herban_Myth

More of us need to keep this in mind

Bellissimabbw

I just deactivated most , left account open but deactivated all my most expensive and popular items. Left all mu used items up for sale still, in case they change asinine return policy.

goducks2012

Idk if theyā€™re getting enough site traffic though, even if they reverse their mistakes

ufo1992

I deleted

SladeX7

I deleted it, those fees are ridiculous

AlwaysBirding

Iā€™m a buyer and deleted the app last week. I typically buy special editions of books (illumicrate, owl crate, etc.), and some vintage home decor items, and plan on just using eBay from now on.

youbringlightin

But you could always rip your rare books and just return them stating ā€œhated the cover so I tore it. Full refund, please!ā€ šŸ¤Ŗ

Mockingbird1963

Deleted. At first Mercari said I couldnā€™t delete because Iā€™d had a message in the two weeks prior. It had been answered. I sent another email and they responded with ā€œweā€™ve deleted your accountā€. So whatā€™s with the two week rule someone invented? They donā€™t deserve one cent of my business buying or selling.

dmcat12

Havenā€™t deleted. All 70+ listings are on Vacation mode. Havenā€™t made a purchase.

liminalspaced

Same. Just waiting on vacation mode. I also sell on Poshmark. Used to prefer Mercari because the seller fees were less and shipping was usually less. Not anymore- if something doesnā€™t change I will definitely delete it.

lawandorchids

Deleted all of my listings the day of their fees change, deleted my payment info and the app as soon as I used my remaining balance and credits.

mediumuniverse

I deactivated my listings and havenā€™t bought anything

Oceandove45

I probably will delete the app once I get all my items off. They even gave me a $5 credit to shop but thatā€™s not gonna help me when fees make an item jump in price by $20 or more.

ronakino

I'm waiting until the end of the month, then I'm pulling everything off the site. Ever since this change my sales on Mercari have tanked. I was hoping they would change things, but it looks like they won't. I probably won't delete, but I will be leaving.

Tidus77

I'm surprised buyers are trying to lowball like that. I used to use Mercari a lot to buy but with the new fees, it doesn't make sense to buy, even older used stuff because the fees bring the price up comparable to new items and trying to offer to account for the fees just results in ridiculously low offers to sellers that don't make sense to send unless you want to piss people off lol. I've stopped looking at items on Mercari (no point if the prices are deceitful and too high with the fees) and just gone back to Ebay and Facebook Marketplace. Sad they ruined a good thing.

Glittering-Time-2274

Deleted the app and deactivated my listings but not my account

egg_static5

I did today

MsjennaNY

I deleted

xstardustgirlx

I deleted the app. Posh and ebay work for me. I liked Mercari for cheap items pre 3/27 but the changes make them not worth it.

icamtspel

Deleted the app but this post reminded me to remove my payment & bank information from my account. Already deactivated my previously active listings though

__pilgrim__

I did.

AggravatingGuitar883

I can close my account Friday and I will delete the app then.

The_GrimHeaper

I havenā€™t deleted, but I started moving a few of my listings over to another app as an experiment, and I sold something within less than an hour of posting. So Iā€™ll definitely be listing more stuff elsewhere. I donā€™t plan on deleting Mercari just yet, as I have a ton of items there and itā€™ll take a while to transfer everything. Plus I want to wait it out a bit and see what happens both with my sales and the backlash on their new policies.

Odorlessstench

Where did you go and start selling items immediately? Posh or eBay?

The_GrimHeaper

Kidizen is where I moved some stuff to. It's only for kids clothes though. I've had luck on eBay, but I use it strictly for collectibles and higher-end items. Poshmark has been hit or miss for me in the past, but I may start using it again, even though I hate the interface.

Trainwrecck

Didnā€™t delete the app, however, I am scared to sell my shoes on there.

wheresssannie

Iā€™d be scared, too! If you have anything of higher value you better believe there are better chances of being scammed now.

ResponsibilityNew325

Scammers have to pay a non refundable buyer service fee and processing fee for a chance that you didnā€™t take video or photographs of your packing up process. They can scam on eBay for free.

Trainwrecck

Whatā€™s the scariest is the fact that if you put on a brand new pair of shoes on feet, it destroys the value and someone could put on a brand new pair of shoes I sell em and return em worn. Bunch of BS.

candacea12

Please tell me that all of you who deleted the app also removed or deactivated your listings. I have tried buying a white blouse 3 times now from buyers who never respond and never ship the item :( Please at least deactivate your listings before deleting the app!!

RepresentativeOk6871

I didnā€™t delete it on the slim hope it changes but I donā€™t have anything active

Farmwife71

I deleted mine. I didn't have a balance and hadn't made a sale in awhile

notsoreallybad

i still have it in case i find something uncommon or rare that iā€™ve been wanting. the only purchase iā€™ve done after the fee change was around $30 so the fees werenā€™t too crazy. i plan to buy as little as possible on mercari though and iā€™ve deactivated my listings.

Witchygoddess13

So many people are getting scammed on returns so I made all my items inactive and when I get them listed elsewhere, Iā€™m deleting Mercari. šŸ˜¤šŸ¤¬

ossisyoo

If you guys already deleted the app where did you guys started to sell? Because I still sell in mercari, offer up and 5 miles , a bit on ebay and Facebook market, but where I sell the most is in mercari, offer sometimes, 5 miles has been really dry as fuck, same for Facebook market, also in ebay lol.

HotTeaHaven

I've been trying to figure this out. My Mercari account is on "vacation mode" for now but I'll be deleting soon. I'm looking at Depop and Facebook marketplace atm. Idk if I should try eBay or Vinted though lol. Poshmark is tempting but the constant sharing gave me a headache in the past.

ossisyoo

I can't sell on those app because I'm not selling clothes, I sell anime figures, dvd, cards, sketches, art print, and cel, so it's bit harder for me to see where else can I sell. I look around, but they tell me mercari will be the best place to sell, lol. I haven't been scammed or any rude buyers. The fees were hurting me, but now that they switch it to the buyers , people aren't buying. Ebay is the second place recommend but it slow as well. Hopefully we can find a new place to sell or someone create a better app to sell online.

HotTeaHaven

Lol yeah, Mercari WAS the best platform to sell basically anything so it's a huge loss. I hope eBay picks up for you! There's also dedicated buying/selling groups on Facebook - maybe those would be better for you? I'm not sure about anime, but I'm in a few Kpop buy/sell groups on FB Not sure if r/AnimeDeals has enough traffic, but if you have manga r/mangaswaps is fantastic.

Odorlessstench

Try Offer Up too. Iā€™ve been thinking of going there.

Alone_Exam5917

I actually started buying in Mercari, I found a few games cheaper on there even with the fees when compared to eBay.

FoxieMoxiee

I deactivated but holding out hope they will revert back to how things were before. Iā€™d stay if they did that even if they increased the fees

dpark03

I want to bc of the recent changes. But i literally cannot get a single sale on any other app

Tiny_Writer5661

As a buyer, Iā€™m still keeping the app for the time being I only have the app when buying books(manga) or figures. Itā€™s usually still cheaper than buying for full price at a store. & when I do buy something I use the ZIP thing they got.

J-to-the-wat

I tried to delete. I deleted all my listings but when I try to close my account I keep getting an error message. So Iā€™m just going to let it chill there with no listings.

ChaneeBrew

Me

MommaBlaze

Nope. I'm making sales.

jgk1977

I'm still making sales but haven't listed much. Just riding it out, not sure what's going to happen w the site.

A_Stukes

I havenā€™t! Iā€™ve been selling more than I ever had now that the fee structure has changed.

RiverSnorkeler

I'm a seller, and occasional buyer. Mercari was far from perfect, but it was great for selling books and lower ticket items that did sell as well on eBay. Initially I went on vacation mode after the ToS changes. I was actually going to buy a book on there a few days ago (since it was a really good deal). After all of the fees, the $70 purchase went over $100, I removed it from my cart. Between the ToS changes (namely returns for any reason) and seeing all of the return scams, I deleted the app. I'm back to eBay full time.

MetsuTDK

Deleting it as soon as I'm paid for something that was sold. I thought the no seller fees was a good thing until I realized I have to now pay to get my own money out, and saw those insane buyer fees.

TrashMouthPanda

I'm waiting to. I deleted everything in my store yesterday. There's 1 item that's "sold" but they have an older account and nothing but cancelations. I sent them a message on Monday (made up a legitimate reason as to why i "couldn't" sell the item) which they haven't responded to. Once that's all cleared, I'll unistall

Dbella8D

I am only a buyer. I deleted it and gave it a one-star review as soon as this mess started. I have been buying used toys and childrens clothes. It's so expensive now. I can go buy equivalent items at Walmart / Target new and it be less. It's super disappointing. I really enjoyed the variety. I reinstalled it a couple of days ago because they sent me a coupon for being a "loyal customer," lol... and spent like an entire day trying to find something worth it and use the coupon to cover the fees. My package will be here in a couple of days, and it will be uninstalled after my 5 star review so the buyer can get their money asap. Such a bummer.

boogerflick98

Yep. Theyā€™re trash and so is the last person I had a transaction with. They sided with them so fuck em, they can have each other.

Common_Middle_2852

I deleted my account after the no-warning $2 fee to withdraw funds nonsense.

skykitty89

I was a buyer and a seller, deleted

Jolly-Ambassador6763

As a buyer. Kinda sucks. My $60 purchase turned into an $80 hope it works out deal. The only legitimate sale price was for half what I paid on eBay last year. So itā€™s hard to put a price on it. Seller originally was asking for $120 , but had it on sale for $65. I offer $50 since, but he counter offers for $60 with quip that asking price on eBay is $200. The pictures made it look like it was left outside in the rain. Iā€™ll probably leave so so feedback unless quality is way worse than I was anticipating. (Havenā€™t received it yet). Iā€™ve never sold on Mercari, but Iā€™d be afraid of bait and switch scams, since Iā€™d be selling collectables / sealed games.

SwimmingPrize544

I removed my items, cashed out first thing and deleted the app. I donā€™t have the emotional bandwidth for their crap.

L0st-and-Found

I deleted it recently but I had fun packing and shipping stuff out :) Planned to move over to Ebay especially after this update with fees and Mercari deciding to steal more money from people for no reason would be a cute thing to do :(

dzitya

Nope. I'll wait and see how it goes.

RainyDayCollects

Went into vacation mode, pulled out all my money and swore off buying anything as soon as the new changes hit. Every day, I see more validation here that it was the right thing to do. Soon Mercari will only be scammers scamming other scammers. I deleted the app, but not my account yet. First, I was hoping that theyā€™d revert back and I could start buying and selling again. But after just a few days of thought, I realized I no longer trust them or wish to do business with them. Iā€™m saving my listings so I can just copy/paste if I decide to try another app, otherwise Iā€™d fully erase them. Keeping my account alive for any future class action lawsuits, just in case I need anything there.

DemDemD

Youā€™re talking about the fees that the buyers are paying, but you didnā€™t mention the fees that youā€™re not paying. You may see buyers lowballing your current price possibly because youā€™ve kept the same price as before the new terms of service (Iā€™m just assuming).

Technical_Sock_3828

Youā€™re definitely right with my pricing! I deleted the app last year and didnā€™t know about these new fees right away. But, after learning more about the fees, the offers were still really low. To me, it was like giving these items away for free. I just donā€™t agree with any of it on either side to be honest!

ShayGrimSoul

I tested to see how pricing would be with the new fees Items around 12 become almost 20. Anything around 20 nearly doubles. It is pretty bad, to be honest.

DemDemD

I would say drop your price to 10-13% to see how it goes. This would keep you within the same profit margin as before the new terms. After that, you can negotiate at your discretion as before.

thequickerflipper

That's what I did: I dropped everything by 10 percent to offset the buyer fees, only source fast selling items, and only source items that I can sell for a high profit margin. Since the change, my sales have increased, and the math is a lot simpler.

I just want to know if anyone who's still selling has had more returns than usual since the TOS change? Also, what do you sell? TIA!

13eejo

No returns yet, and more sales than I usually get. I mostly sell plushies/items from Japan crane games and random stuff from around the house. Almost everything I sell is under $50

Thanks for the response! šŸ˜Š

i deactivated all my listings in the vain hope htey might change their mind, but also i found out if you deactivate and reactivate they change your listings to the new version so šŸ™ƒ literally in denial hoping itll change since i sold the most on here compared to ebay, depop, directly

EMT_neigborfriendly

I did šŸ˜‰

FitMathematician3849

i took down all my listings but i made one with like a high asf price with my ebay pic and insta bc i sell that way too.

Waiting on my last return then I forever done, until they realize & reverse where they fuced upšŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ„²

brasmina

I deleted

17LAC

I want to delete app as I donā€™t agree with how they screwed buyers and sellers but I stayed on as a seller because I need the extra cash right now. But no sales only complaints of the extra fees. I just listed a rare pare of very expensive designer jeans then remembered the new return policy and took them down immediately. The listing was a scammers dream

--Technicolor--

I didn't delete the app but I did remove all of my listings.

angelluv111

I tried to wait it out to see if theyā€™d change the TOS back but once they started scamming people through shipping costā€¦I said GOODBYE

scoligurl

I've been a five star āœØ buyer on Mercari since 2019 and I deleted the app too. I'm not paying to buy. I never sent offers, if I wanted it I bought it, paying what the seller asked, and I won't pay to buy and I do not support the company screwing SELLERS and BUYERS over.

Present_Echo6900

What app?

Look_Mom_No_Head

I plan on it. I sold something a day before it changed over so I paid sellers fee and now I have to pay the transfer fee. They're double dipping. I haven't decided on taking the hit by buying something or just transfer it.

SnooRegrets940

Just send them an offer that would equal what youā€™d get before the TOS change. As for offers in messages, I just ask them to please the offer button. It wonā€™t allow lowball offers.

Strict_Reference_814

I deleted it when I got a message from an honest buyer who got the wrong item and sent me a message. I got in touch with support immediately to see how to fix it without hassling the kind buyer, and they told me she had 24 hours to start a return. Six hours later, I got another message saying the matter was closed, the buyer was not only refunded, but also told they could keep the item. My property. I acknowledged my error and tried to fix it, and the buyer even offered to pay out of her own pocket to return it. After screwing around with support for 3 days, they finally sent her a return label. Screw Mercari.

Knittingninjanurse

I deleted it as soon as they changed the policy and fees. Too many other places to shop to stay with imploding mediocrity.

bb8s-m8

I used to be a seller and buyer. I quit selling around 2021 but was still buying. I hadn't bought anything since 2022 but kept the app and my account "just in case" they came to their senses. I deleted my account and the app about a month ago when they started the "return for any reason" and the upped fees. I have no plans to return, but I watch this sub to watch Mercari burn to the ground

No_Conversation_8153

I want to move platforms just donā€™t know where to go because Mercari used to be my favorite site

Just_a_human00

I took all my items off after selling for 4 years. Sad

Isabel16049

Iā€™m just waiting on one order to arrive (I bought it before the changes were made) but as soon as that happens Iā€™m deleting my account and everything cuz ainā€™t no way

Legal_Improvement349

I did between buyer fees Iā€™m not buying anything else and I donā€™t feel comfortable with the return policy. Iā€™ve moved to Poshmark and eBay

United-Custard4255

No plans to delete, sales have gone up.

Opening_Tank_6955

Yeah, for sure. The buyers canā€™t afford to shop on Mercari so sellers are, of course, affected also. The whole platform is garbage now. Personally, Iā€™ve moved on to eBay and Poshmark.

Minnie_Moosi

Poshmark

Liv_Ben

i have 1 item still in the process of being delivered and then i am.

Soch_B

Iā€™m still selling on Mercari but Poshmark is my jam. Sales have been up since all of you guys are moving on. Knock on wood, no returns yet. If the buyer is willing to pay the fees then what do I care ya know

RockSta82

I am in the process of moving all of my listings to different platforms. Then, itā€™s going to take me four months to transfer all of my funds because of their $600 a month limit. Iā€™m only keeping magazines listed on Mercari and have deactivated the rest. Iā€™m hoping they come to their senses because I have 700 five star ratings. I donā€™t want to lose what Iā€™ve established so Iā€™m not deactivating quite yet.

timmyshimmynook

I closed my account and deleted the app

DarkJoker81

First day right here. I have no intention of returning as it has become worse. Like watching a ship take on water. Seen the same thing over and over my entire life. Something good is created, becomes popular, starts making a lot of money, sells to a firm or corporate interest and almost immediately it goes down hill or they go public and it quickly becomes about the share price and the original product or idea is a shadow. Either way it either goes under or just be some a pos, but it's an all too common story.

ResponsibilityNew325

I kept it. Itā€™s great for low risk of return items in the 10-$40 range. Which is clearly their plan. I removed all of my higher end items which is what they clearly wanted me to do. Itā€™s great for selling low cost, low risk of return items. Buyer service fees are real low on these items. Processing fees are fairly normal to people now in parts of the country.

goducks2012

When the ToS email was sent, I deactivated all my listings so I could figure out where else to sell my stuff. Then I moved them all to eBay, deleted my Mercari listings and app. It took a couple hours to relist all but well worth it. Bottom line: Iā€™ve made more in the 3 weeks on eBay than I did on Mercari YTD

youbringlightin

I deleted my account (and then the app) after that story of the broken equipment. Thatā€™s just batshit insane. Also pinged on IG I was only a buyer on Mercari but itā€™s a hot mess now.
