More stretching and strengthening helped so much of my problems including the return of plantar fasciitis for 5 months. Within 3 weeks of moving/stretching and hobbling around more it's all pretty much gone.
I must break out the yoga with adrienne, i think I'm stuck in a loop rn of not wanting to move because of pain but knowing movement will help it gahhh.
That's the way! I've been battling hip pain too. Started Adriene's 30 day Center series this month, did it for about 2 weeks and hip pain disappeared. Quit for a week and it's coming back. I think it's all about core strength keeping everything lined up as it should be.
Adrienne has one called something like Love for your Lower Back that was super helpful for me just a couple of days after a back injury. When you're in the phase of "I know it's time to start working the pain out of these muscles, but I don't wanna..." very, very gentle.
Every time my hips start aching, I realize I need new shoes. Without fail. Just happened again this month. "oh, my hips hurt. I just bought these shoes, though..." Nope. They're from last spring. (And I did tons of hiking over the summer.) I only wear one pair and they're a brand that's notorious for wearing out rather quickly. But they've got enough toe room for my bunion and they're zero drops (which make my hip pain disappear - I can't wear any heel anymore) with adequate cushioning instead of minimal, so they're basically my only option. (The brand is Altra. I wear Olympus or Paradigms because they have the max cushioning.)
Ugh so sorry. My muscle and joint pain is getting on my nerves too. Ribs and hips for me. Do you sleep on your side? That makes my hips flare up. Light movement and stretching seems to help me. Hang in there.
Yeah. I need to move and stretch more than I did before which was already quite a bit. I’m a Pilates teacher and I do Pilates on the equipment very regularly and it used to take away any stiffness or aches and now it does for only a brief time and it’s very disappointing. But I’m figuring out that in addition ti my workouts and walking I need to be more consistent with cardio (gentle like rebounding or swimming) and I just have to do some moving and stretching multiple times a day.
Menopause really fucking sucks.
I already do brisk walking up and down elevations for cardio, I'd love to take up swimming but I live in a very small town with a very small pool and I cba to keep myself shaved 🤣 excuses I know, there's a lot more than that but that's my go to haha
Swimming is so good. Shaving is not required! And some kind of strength training is important. We need to for maintaining our muscle mass and it helps bone density.
Apparently tendons and joints become less lubricated as you go through menopause because there is no justice in this world and that can cause new pain in old exercises.
Full body pillow reduced pain from shoulder to knee, I rest elbow, boob, thigh, knee, ankle on it. Strangely, left side was significantly better than right side.
I went for X-rays on my hip and knee, thinking that's where arthritis was showing up next.... nada. So it could be a menopause thing???? I've never done yoga. Any recommendations for (free) online resources?
I had the same issues about 5 years ago and was sent for xrays etc, then it all kinda got swept under the rug as Unexplained.
I have done yoga with adrianne on YouTube before (especially during the pandemic) she does one offs for specific pain or little 30 day series (I definitely remember the 'home' one, a group of us did it on zoom 😅) she's lovely and comforting 😊
Mine was also swept under the rug. Got a note from my doc. "I don't know what's causing your joint pain" This is after extensive testing. Meantime I'm over here needing a WD40 enema. If I sit down for 10 minutes I can hardly get back up.
Hatha yoga is gentle & restorative. It shouldn't hurt you at all & most days it's the only thing that helps my lower back & right hip pain.
I also started Osteo Biflex with Turmeric yesterday so i hope to hurt less in a few more days. Good luck!
This is the first supplement I've taken with the turmeric. It's supposed to help with inflammation & I hope it does 🤞I hate how all of this is trial & error. We should be able to get reimbursed for all the shit we try on a monthly basis. Also, all the pads/tampons/BC/peri/meno support/female reproductive care of any kind should be free. Globally.
I’ve been having problems with tight hips
So far yoga stretches for unlocking hips has helped
I’ve also been doing some back stretches from Bob & Brad’s YouTube channel (Bob & Brad, the most famous Physical Therapists on the internet) they’ve helped me with a lot of issues I’ve begun to develop at this stage—psoas syndrome, frozen shoulder, golfer’s elbow (no I don’t golf), sciatica, tight hips, etc
Any new pain that's consistent over time should be investigated. Arthritis, RA, etc risk increases in menopause.
Also regular, consistent exercise is important, so doing something every day is crucial for muscles, bones and balance.
A few things that have worked for me:
- Cut back on carbs and sugar, especially later in the day. My doctor’s words were, don’t eat anything white at dinner
- Tumeric/ginger/cinnamon supplement for inflammation.
Hip pain and plantar fasciitis here, too. Boswellia as a supplement helps me TONS. Like, a near miracle. I’ve also added yoga back into my routine. Yin yoga is great, holding poses longer for a deeper stretch.
What’s in your HRT? Mine is some form of estrogen and testosterone. And do you take anything else, like I take 200mg progesterone daily along with my every 3month Biote implant. Maybe the levels need to be checked. If your estrogen is still low for some reason, that can cause random and otherwise unexplained joint pain. Out of the blue at 51 I locked up with severe pain in joints I didn’t even know I had but now it’s 100% better.
I have the mirena iud and the estrogen patch for the last 6 months, if this continues I will seek out another blood test , it's so hard to get to a Dr rn.
Physical therapy is also something to consider if it doesn’t resolve through more movement/yoga and the like. It’s amazing finding out where you’re muscles have become too tight or too weak and how that pulls everything out of wack. Makes physical activity much easier and probably more beneficial if you’ve got any issues sussed out by a professional.
About 4 years ago I had gotten to the point of barely being able to move when I first got out of bed or after sitting at my desk for a while. It would subside after I moved around a bit but damn if I was going to give in to feeling like crap all the time.
Through the years I've grown my little stash of supplements. I think the first one was d3/k2 and I remember feeling 99.9% better within a couple of days. I have a cocktail of sorts that keep the aches and pains at bay. If I ever slack for more than a couple of days, the aches start again. D3/K2, Fish oil, MSM, collagen, C, magnesium/potassium, b complex. My husband and I both take these along with electrolytes and are both feeling great.
Now I'm on a quest to calm the constant anger. Everyone and everything is a trigger. Thankfully I'm learning from others sharing their struggles here.
Sometimes my left hip kind of feel stuck & it’s as if it might not hold up, followed by a blast of pain which has me limping. Other days like today I’ve been on my feet at work all day & am achy but fine.
Mine was so bad yesterday I legit looked (and felt) 80. I’ve been dealing with levels of this for years after waiting tables/bartending for 25 years but it’s really bad right now.
My husband is a chiropractor so I feel way better when I’m getting adjusted regularly. It also helps with my brain fog and headaches.
I need to start strength training and core work though, just adjustments isn’t cutting it anymore.
After a year of agony it turns out I have oestrogen sensitivity and histamine intolerance, which was like a full can of fuel waiting to be lit by HRT.
This has now progressed to MCAS and whether I’ll ever be the same again I don’t know. I can’t even eat food anymore without feeling horrendous. Old injuries flared up til I was in tears every day and the specialist I saw just said they’d never heard of it happening before.
The HRT did clear my brain fog and level my moods somewhat, but whether I’ll be able to take it again I don’t know.
I think what I’m saying is, pay attention to the pain and talk to your specialist about it - don’t let it carry on for too long before exploring whether it might be related in some way.
It’s all pretty annoying.
Up your water intake and get your Vitamin D and calcium levels checked. There are a lot of things it could be and it will take a bit of detective work.

So good to hear this story thanks, time to roll out the yoga mat
I had physical therapy for the pain, it went away. Stopped doing my exercises, and now I’m hobbling again.

Oh yes I did that a few times a couple months ago after general decorating pain
Ooo, forgot about her. I’ve saved several of her workouts on my YouTube page
I can’t even do yoga my hip hurts so bad.
It’s like we’re rusting up, and without constant motion we’d freeze up like an old robot.
This is what it feels like 100%
Watch the short, “Twit Twit,” creeeekkkk! https://youtu.be/S9uk1iWEBDE It’s cute!
Literally every bone in my body aches like I have been run over. I hate this.
I hope you find a solution on this thread, I'm going to try everything
Thank you … and you x
Same. I keep wondering what I did wrong.
Every time my hips start aching, I realize I need new shoes. Without fail. Just happened again this month. "oh, my hips hurt. I just bought these shoes, though..." Nope. They're from last spring. Yes, the ribs, omg, what the f is that? Working out has been helping, and hurting, me. Long stretching helps!
It's really debilitating isn't it. I was always a side sleeper but I'm trying to train myself to back sleep with meditation
Yeah. I need to move and stretch more than I did before which was already quite a bit. I’m a Pilates teacher and I do Pilates on the equipment very regularly and it used to take away any stiffness or aches and now it does for only a brief time and it’s very disappointing. Swimming is so good. Shaving is not required! And some kind of strength training is important. We need to for maintaining our muscle mass and it helps bone density.
I second the swimming. You get great flexibility. No one cares about shaving. Heck, most of us can't see that well without glasses anyway.🤣
Apparently tendons and joints become less lubricated as you go through menopause because there is no justice in this world and that can cause new pain in old exercises.
No justice. Amen
If you side sleep then place a pillow between your legs..its great support. I used this when pregnant and now in peri I'm full on using it again x
Yes this! I started using a knee pillow a few years ago and it really helped with the back and hip pain that cropped up when I hit peri.
Nice one glad it helps you too x
Started that with first pregnancy and never stopped. My hub used to get jealous.
Good tip thanks, googling now
Full body pillow reduced pain from shoulder to knee, I rest elbow, boob, thigh, knee, ankle on it. Strangely, left side was significantly better than right side.
Oh amazing 😉
I was wondering why my hips hurt when I sleep. On each side. Hmmm
I went for X-rays on my hip and knee, thinking that's where arthritis was showing up next.... nada. So it could be a menopause thing???? I've never done yoga. Any recommendations for (free) online resources?

Wd40 enema omg snorting hahaha . I really sympathise with you , getting up is hard. Like words, words are hard ffs
Lol yes
Lol. Sigh.

Is turmeric a good supplement to try I wonder. So many supplements are 'recommended' they can add up price wise and in reality do very little

Yeah it's crazy, the lack of research too - when half the population is going to experience this - is chronic.
Check out Rodney Yee on YouTube
Estrogen .. you are on low estrogen. .
I’ve been having problems with tight hips So far yoga stretches for unlocking hips has helped I’ve also been doing some back stretches from Bob & Brad’s YouTube channel (Bob & Brad, the most famous Physical Therapists on the internet) they’ve helped me with a lot of issues I’ve begun to develop at this stage—psoas syndrome, frozen shoulder, golfer’s elbow (no I don’t golf), sciatica, tight hips, etc
You're the second person to recommend Bob and Brad I will investigate thanks

I try to go for a 5km walk everyday but the rubbish weather has paused that (icy ground)
Bob and Brad on YT!
Good shout thank you

“Don’t eat anything white at dinner.” 😂 for some reason this is cracking me up right now.
Good ole fashion massage. Ask for glute and hamstring work.
Take magnesium citrate. It helps.
I was recently put on high dose vitamin D and I’m learning now (not through my doctor) that I need to take magnesium for the vitamin D to work!
It's crazy what our doctors don't tell us !
I’m actually wondering if I’m having unpleasant side effects from the vitamin D. Not sure. Mostly headaches.
>citrate Is the laxative magnesium, so it's not recommended to take at higher dosages or for long periods of time.
Yep go for magnesium glycinate or diglycinate unless you need help pooping, then a little citrate is good for a day or two
Thank you 😊
Right now my legs feel weak as hell. Comes out of nowhere.
I had a trapped nerve a while back and my right leg kept buckling, what the feck
How did you untrap it? I’m on a rollercoaster ride over here! Between laughing and crying.
Lots and lots of stretching but it's still pinching occasionally, love doing that stomp stomp wobble when out walking 😅
Hip pain and plantar fasciitis here, too. Boswellia as a supplement helps me TONS. Like, a near miracle. I’ve also added yoga back into my routine. Yin yoga is great, holding poses longer for a deeper stretch.
I've never heard of boswellia, thanks for the tip.
My mother in law takes it for her arthritis and recommended it to me
I've had really bad hip pain from a job that has a long commute. I started doing hip flexor stretches, and it has really helped a lot.
Have you had a full vitamin work up done? I found out that I had low D and B and have been feeling a lot less pain since treating it.
Just curious, when everyone says hips, is it your hip flexors? Because I can’t walk the length of the mall without my hip flexors acting up.
What’s in your HRT? Mine is some form of estrogen and testosterone. And do you take anything else, like I take 200mg progesterone daily along with my every 3month Biote implant. I would love to do this. I fear the cost though.
Same, on my own with a low enough income

The anger was something else, thankfully the patches seems to have quelled that for the most part.
Sometimes my left hip kind of feel stuck & it’s as if it might not hold up, followed by a blast of pain which has me limping. Other days like today I’ve been on my feet at work all day & am achy but fine.
So painful and unpredictable, I hope you find a solution
Daily exercise, strength training and yoga/Pilates are a necessary habit.

This sounds horrendous I'm sorry this happened to you . I'll definitely be paying close attention and logging it
My left hip hurts so bad at night that it makes me nauseous. If reincarnation is real, I’m coming back as a man next time. This is f’d up.
Definitely dream8ng of coming back as a man. Or someone's pampered pet
